  • Limited number of albums per arti

I have a Zen Xtra 60GB. I've had it for just about 2 years now. Use it almost daily with not a single problem. I was wondering..... I went and ripped our entire collection of Christmas CD's into mp3 format at 92kb
    ps.
To keep them located all in the same?place on my player, I made it so that the artist on all of them was "Christmas". I then named the albums with the artist and album name such as "Bing Crosby - Old Time Christmas". I ended up with 36 albums (62 songs) - ALL with "Christmas" as the artist in their tags. When I loaded them onto the player, 30 of them were under the artist "Christmas". 6 of them were placed under the artist "Christmas/Christmas". What's up with that? I doublechecked the albums listed under "Christmas/Christmas" and they all have "Christmas" as the artist in their tags. Is there a maximum number of albums that you can have under artist? Thanks!

So apparently no one has had this happen before?........
Anyway, I removed the whole "Christmas" artist from the player and then reloaded them album at a time to see if it made any difference. The same 6 albums again came up on the player as artist "Christmas/Christmas".
So using Media Source I just went and did a "edit artist" on those files to change them to "Christmas". Worked fine and now all 36 albums show up under the artist "Christmas". .... I still wonder why it did this? It was no problem fixing it, but why did it happen in the first place?Things that make you?go hmmmmmm.

  • Shared Album

I am using the new photos app for Mac.
For now, I am not planning to use the iCloud photo library to upload and share all of my photos.
Still, I would like to share certain albums.
What are the limitations on shared albums?
    1. Do they work at all w/o enabling iCloud photo library?
    2. For how long are they valid, i.e. can I share them forever?
    3. Any restrictions size or number wise?
    4. DO they count against my iCloud storage?
    Thanks!
    Frederic

Shared Albums are totally different from the iCloud Photo Library.  They reside on different servers and separate entities.  The Shared Albums do not count against your iCloud storage space.
Therefore, the photos in a shared album must be uploaded specifically for that album.

  • How to choose album for ios6 photo sharing facebook

When I want to share a photo directly from my photostream to facebook I have a limited number of albums to choose from and cant seem to add another album.
Can you add an album to facebook and how do you then choose that album when uploading?

I've found this too.  Do your albums in Facebook have "custom" audience settings?  My albums that are shared to custom audiences (eg, 'Close Friends, Family') don't show up.  Albums that are set to simple audiences (eg, just 'Friends' or 'Myself') do show up.

  • While playing, Front Row does not display album art but a white image only

When I go through my music library via Front Row, the album art is still visible, however, as soon as I play a track, the cover disappears and there's a white square instead that, as usual, changes its position from the left to the right side. Could that be due to size limitations? My album art is 2400 x 2400, approximately 4 MB each. Thanks.

Same for me on my Mac Mini: I can see the shared pictures but can't see the ones in the local library. Funny thing is that I can see that library from my other Mac.
Also I noticed that one picture appeared in the middle of the (empty) slideshow, only 1 of 67. In the list view, those pictures appear normally, as you can see in this screenshot http://d.pr/eiXB
    I'm a first-time iLife user, so I don't know if the issue is '11-specific.

  • How can I arrange my music albums alphabetically

How can I arrange my music albums alphabetically in i-tunes

For list views in iTunes 11 click the heading of the Album column. If it reads Album by Artist/Year or Album by Artist click again once or twice respectively to get the correct option. If necessary click the small black triangle to reverse the order. For other views you are generally limited to an Album by Artist ordering.

  • Re album group expansion

My albums and album groups have become slow to expand and collapse (6 seconds); why? (Photoshop Elements 6)

Did you try to run 'optimize' from the file menu ?
    Do you use autoanalyzer ?
There can be many factors here, from available disk space (scratch disks) to huge catalog size.
In my experience, it's not a good practice for speed to use albums when selecting files only by tags is enough.
I have never met such speed problems in PSE6 because I have only a limited set of albums (less than 50) whereas I have some 1 200 tags in a 40 000 items catalog (XP).
    Also see:
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Limits_on_the
I have not met the situation described here with a lot of tags but I am pretty sure albums are more demanding than tags.

  • Give names to discs of a same album

    Hi !
I wanted to know if it was possible to give names to different discs of a same album.
For example, in Fire Emblem: Awakening Soundtrack, each disc (5 total) represents an emblem (Disc 1: Sable, 2: Gules, 3: Azure, 4: Vert & 5: Argent) or in the Nobuo Uematsu Limited Selection 2012 album, there are two discs named "Main Quest" and "Vinyl Treasure Side Quest".
And I like the idea each disc has a name, it's like chapters of a book, it's part of the album.
Is it possible to unite them under the same name (e.g. "Fire Emblem: Awakening Original Soundtrack" and "Limited Selection 2012") and label the discs with the names that are their own (Disc 1: Sable, Disc 2: Gules, ...) ? And if not, can it be an idea added in future version of iTunes ?
    Thanks in advance !

Yes, this is correct. For example see this screen shot of how I have King Crimson's 13 disc 40th anniversary release of Larks' Tongues in Aspic tagged:
    N3M1C0 wrote:
But I want to have the 5 albums under one cover. When I click this cover, I want it to reveal the 5 albums but with their names written next/instead of the disc number.
At this time this is not possible. If you give each album a unique name it will show up in the library as a unique album, as in my example above. However, there are a variety of ways to configure the ID3 tags, so I suggest you experiment until you find something you like.

  • I cannot access iTunes songs showing in external hard drive

I recently closed my dropbox account and moved its content to an external hard drive. This included iTunes songs  and now the songs and related albums no longer show in iTunes when I open it up, although I can see the individual songs (but not in albums)  in the external hard drive.  There are a limited number of albums still showing when I open up iTunes but they are albums I have recently added to iTunes.
However I can see the albums and tracks in the iTunes media folder on my Mac internal hard drive, but they do not show up when I actually open up Itunes.I have followed advice found on this website and have tried to move my iTunes folder to the external drive so all the music is in one place, but i keep getting an 'error code 50' message appearing.  I have also tried to select the individual songs on the hard drive and move them to the media folder but there are no 'albums' to move them into and they just sit there as individual songs.  I have a macbook air which is one year old and a WD My Passport ultra 1TB external hard drive.  I am using OSX version 10.9.5 with 8GB of memory.  As you can tell from my endeavours, I do not really understand the way iTunes works and it may be that the various songs and albums in the media folder need to be organised in a different way perhaps, so that they are visible when I open up iTunes?
As I have lots of space on my external hard drive and am running out of space on my Mac hard drive, ideally I would like all my iTunes folders to be held on my external drive, as it is always plugged in to my Mac, and for iTunes to be 'pointed' to the hard drive.   Any advice please?
    Thanks

All kinds of things going on.
About the error code.  Do you men "50" or do you mean "-50"?  It is critical things get reported exactly here.  Error -50 is a very unhelpful generic communications error with a number of possible causes.  Something between the drive to which you are downloading and the drive from which it is all coming is not working correctly, with probably dozens of possibilities.  I guess one simple possibility is if this is a brand new drive it likely came formatted for Windows use and needs reformatting for Mac.

Basic workings of iTunes.  When you add a file to iTunes it puts the file in a specific location designated in you Media Folder preferences setting and makes a note in a database file (library.itl) of where it put it.  When you want to play the track iTunes looks up where the file should be, goes there and plays that file.  iTunes does not inventory its media folder for new additions.  For iTunes to recognize tracks they have to be added to iTunes either by importing, dragging to iTunes, or dragging to the Automatically Add to iTunes folder.  If files added to iTunes are later moved by you in Finder, particularly to another drive, iTunes loses track of them completely and give you a broken link indicator " ! ".

I don't know exactly how Dropbox works but basically by moving all your files instead of letting iTunes do the relocating you have broken all the links to your older files in iTunes.  You can either repair them one by one, by one, by one....  or you can rebuild your library, or essentially create a new library and start over again (you did read those links I provided didn't you?).  If you are prepared to start over, hold down the option key while starting iTunes.  Create a new library on the external drive.  Drag all your media files to the Automatically Add to iTunes folder in the iTunes folder on that drive.

  • Odd Photo Sharing Behavior

Made one of my routine full backup copy of my primary Managed Library (775 GB). Both copies functioned AOK, even though this backup copy was done and mounted on the USB dock. Went on day trip with grandchildren, came back and imported new photos to primary (backup no longer mounted).
Decided to share an album from the new trip project to my Apple TV 2, but in iTunes found the option to select projects and albums was unavailable -- just the full Library, at least that choice was available.
Checked that were I to choose to Share from the iPhoto Library, the selection choices were available. Opened other Aperture libraries, both in my normal User Account, and in other test user accounts. In all cases the option to choose specific projects or albums was fully available.
Looked at the Package of the primary Aperture Library, and found the iPod Photo Cache file apparently devoid of content, although structurally various folders were there -- this finding based upon size measurement.
Opened the backup of the Library and the option to choose projects and albums to Share fully available. Checked the Package of that backup copy, and found the iPod Photo Cache file to have size indicating content.
Reopened the primary Library, and exported the one new project added after my backup action thinking that I would import that into the backup library, and then transfer the iPod Photo Cache file from that library's package to the main library's Package. But on a whim, I checked in iTunes again and found the option to share only selected projects and albums was now fully available. Rechecked the size of the iPod Photo Cache file in the primary library, and it now had size of an expected amount.
Tested from ATV2, and the previous selections of albums were restored -- previous attempts while this was being investigated failed.
So the action to export a project as a New Library, or some other action resulted in the iPod Photo Cache being restored, and full functionality to Share also restored. Where had the content of the iPod Photo Cache file with my limited selection of albums to share been hiding is not a question I expect to be answerable, but it was probably in the Info.plist or another file in the package, which I now can no longer confirm.
It seems clear, however, that the listing of what to share is contained only at the Library level, in a file or files at the Package level, and not in any preference general to the use of Aperture in the User Account at large. This is one important clue as to why you can only choose one Aperture Library or one iPhoto Library, or one folder at a time to share.

I get the exact same response when I select more than one photo to share via Messages. It's obviously a bug in iPhoto so send a bug report to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.  Include the URL to this topic as will I.
What is happening the ShareKitHelper system component is locking up and only a reboot will clear it up:
UPDATE:  just tested with 1, 2, 3 and 4 photos selected and the problem didn't appear until 4 photos were selected at once.

  • ICloud Adds Unwanted Songs to Smart Playlist

I have set up a Recently Added smart playlist on my Mac limited to include albums/songs I added in the past 30 days. It synchronises fine from iTunes to iPhone when I do so manually. But a day or two after switching on iTunes Match I get a welter of other songs (each time it seems to be the same songs) added to the playlist on my iPhone, while the playlist on my Mac remains as it should be.
The only way to remedy this is to switch off iTunes Match on the Mac and iPhone and sync manually again.
    Most perplexing and bloody irritating.
Any ideas what might be going wrong?

You change the parameters of the list. There's no way to add songs directly to a Smart Playlist.
    Regards.

  • Does iCloud photo sharing automatically compress files

While Apple says the limit along the long side is 2048 pixels; I have found that uploading larger 'files' were automatically compressed/re-sized in the iCloud album.  This was limited to small albums. Larger albums did not resize.  Does anyone have anymore information about this?

The following is from this Apple  document: iCloud: My Photo Stream FAQ
What resolution are My Photo Stream photos?
On a Mac or PC, your photos are downloaded and stored in full resolution. On iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple TV, your Photo Stream photos are delivered in a device-optimized resolution that speeds downloads and saves storage space. Dimensions will vary, but an optimized version of a photo taken by a standard point-and-shoot camera will have a 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution when pushed to your devices. Panoramic photos can be up to 5400 pixels wide.

  • I just bought two new songs this past week....

I just bought two new songs this past week, and now they're missing from my iphone and my computer library.  I went to purchase one of the songs from Itunes store again - and it actually downloaded, not recognizing that I had bought it before!  What happened?  And I'm totally going to get charged for the one song, and I don't even have the other now
    Please help!

    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19943090#19943090
there's a chance that iTunes deleted the song. Don't worry, you're not the only one with this problem. Other problems may include, but are not limited to missing album artwork, missing albums, incomplete albums, duplicates, and other exasperating shenanigans.

  • IOS slideshow:  all photos?  all orders?

When viewing photos on my iPhone, my most-used feature up until this iOS7 disaster has been to view a slideshow of the entire library, while set to random shuffle.  I cannot see any option to do this under iOS 7.
Am I missing yet another hidden setting, or is this another "why-can't-you-just-post-them-to-the-cloud-already, luddite" move by apple?

Apologies, I have not been clear enough again.
There used to be a little 'play' arrow that appeared beneath a photo.  I clicked that, and if I was in an album, a slideshow would start, limited to that album; if I was in my entire library, a slideshow would start including the entire library.  It would shuffle or go sequentially depending on the shuffle toggle in settings.
That little arrow is what I am missing--or the functionality it provided.
I can see options to select individual photos, and then play a slideshow from those photos, but I have 10,000 photos in my library, and need a way to get to the slideshow without selecting 10,000 images manually first.  I do not see any way to start a slideshow without selecting all the images first, or an option to do a 'global' select of an entire album or--my usual habit--the entire library at once.

  • Can Cover Flow view be limited to playback of only one album at a time?

    Hi all,
I've been using the Cover Flow view in my iTunes Library more and more lately (after years of suffering owning a slow machine). But there has been a question regarding playback that has been slightly nagging me for a little while. I couldn't come up with effective search results, so I'll pose the question to the masses.
Cover Flow playback (by default) seems limited to playing through one album and jumping straight into the next album in the Library without stopping. Scroll through the track listing in the lower screen and you'll notice that iTunes lists every track from every album in your Library.
(picture one of those digital bar jukeboxes and an unlimited bankroll...)
Conversely, when clicking the album's title in the default List view, iTunes will only play the tracks in that particular album's playlist, and stop playback once this is finished. I have grown used to this option when desiring to fall asleep to one particular album only... and not the 476 albums which follow it.
Is there a workaround in place to emulate this "List View" playback behavior for Cover Flow playback?
Just curious... if not, it isn't the end of the world - List View will still continue to serve its specific purpose for my needs.
I just have a thirst for knowledge.
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hi Jeremy,
Conversely, when clicking the album's title in the default List view, iTunes will only play the tracks in that particular album's playlist, and stop playback once this is finished.
I'm not sure I follow you here — if I click a track in list view, iTunes always goes on to the next track when it's over (assuming Shuffle is off). If that's the next track on an album, great, but when I come to the end of an album it moves on to the next one.
Or are you talking about the Browser? Selecting an album in the Album browser pane will indeed produce the results you're describing, since the rest of your library will be excluded.
Yes that's correct - my apologies, I was at work at the time and was working from memory. I've had the Browser enabled since day one that it almost becomes second nature.
My iTunes interface, while displaying in List mode with the Browser active, limits the upper display fields to only Artist and Album panes.
And exactly as you said, once the album finishes playing, iTunes ceases playback.
Is there a workaround in place to emulate this "List View" playback behavior for Cover Flow playback?
Yes, but it's a bit clunky: use the Search box to narrow down your library until only one album is displayed.
Yes you are correct - it is a bit clunky. But it does work for the most part, provided that the album title is unique from a song title on another album.
    Thanks for the info Jeremy!
