Limited codecs choices in QT Pro and other applications

On my home computer when I access QT Player and use the export option and export as a QT movie, I have a long list of encoders to choose from in the drop down selection list. Apple ProRes 422 is among them. On my work computer when I try to select an encoding option there are far fewer options to choose from and Apple ProRes 422 is not among them. This same behaviour is seen when I use any application that allows selecting encoding codec. What determines the codecs that are available? How does one add additional codecs? Why is there this difference in the codec choices offered on my machines?
I am running Lion on both machines (Mac Pro and Mac mini). I have QT 7 Pro on both machines and I have FCPX on both machines.

Perhaps I didn't phrase my inquiry very well. I wanted to know how to get the large collection of codecs that are on my home machine to be present on my work machine. The moderator at the Telestream Community Forum for WireCast understood my issue and gave me the solution.
Sorry! You asked specific questions which I attempted to answer without trying to address other issues. For future reference, the normal approach is to examine your system's component configuration to see what support is actually installed and evaluate potential conflicts which might prevent accessibility. Basically there are two primary folders to check— the root "~/System/Library/QuickTime" and the root "~/Library/QuickTime" folders which contain your "global" codec compoents/packages. The former normally contains the "system" installed codecs while the latter usually contains the add-on application and user installed codecs. While not used that much anymore, user_account "Library/QuickTime" folders may contain components installed for use by individual users on an independent "local" basis.
In your case, you were luckier than most users since you had two systems—one apparently working the way you wanted it to and the other not working the way you wanted it to. Therefore, your problem was reduced to a simple comparison of the two and add/eliminate codec components/packages on the "non-working" system to bring it into alignment with the "working" system.

It should be added that only Macs and Quadros need the CUDA driver. That is not required for use with GeForce cards on Windows.

First, did you use Setup or Migration Assistant? That can happen when coming from a PowerMac or sometimes even from another (Intel) Mac.
Second, wait for the next version of Final Cut due very soon to ship (may have to wait for the ".1" of course to clean up any early issues.

hello thanks for helping i found where the problem was coming from but no how to resolve it. it sems like the AC3 format of avi video is in conflict with quicktime pro or something like that..

HELP! Finder and other applications keep crashing after application install

Okay, this was probably not a good idea considering I did not read that it was only for snow leopard... but I downloaded the Metalik theme from Julien Sagot's webpage (http://juliensagot.com/). Now, when I logged out and logged back into my account, I see that Finder keeps quitting and relaunching itself. Safari and other applications do the same thing. I cannot open any files or webpages!! (I am writing this on my other computer, haha)
What is happening!? How can I fix this and return my computer to normal?

Boot the machine into safe mode, holding down the Shift key. If that's successful, delete the nonsensical stuff you installed and try a normal boot.

Your location is determined from a location database which contains the MAC addresses of routers and their physical location. A MAC address is a unique number which is built-in to all network devices when manufactured. The database is built and updated by actually driving around and mapping router locations.
Since you just moved the location of your router has not been updated in the database and when you use Maps you will see your old location.
If you go outside your house you can be correctly located because your iPod sees other routers which are in the location database. Note that you do not need to be connected to a router for your iPod to see it and obtain its MAC address.

When I try to relaunch it, it says,"Mac OS X and other applications are not affected. Click relaunch to launch the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple."

ok for facetime and imessage go into settings turn them off make sure to make an icloud backup and then go to settings general erase all content and settings and then set it up from the backup it should activate your imessage and facetime

In order to make changes, click the lock icon bottom left corner of the pane. You may be prompted for your admin password.
