Limited Connectivity after new printer

Hi,
In short, after adding a new laptop and wireless printer to the network,  network access to all connected computers goes down whenever a computer boots up or awakens from sleep. After a few minutes, access is restored in full but this is very annoying. This all happened after adding the Dell wireless printer using the auto connect button on the WRT110 as per the printers instructions. Doing this connected the printer but killed access to all other computers.
The network consists of 3 wireless routers connected a couple years ago from a guide on this site. It has always worked flawlessly until I hit that button. I ended up doing a hard reset on the cable modem & the main router, pulling all the ethernet cables, and resetting the security pin. This allowed me to get online and I thought it was fixed till the windows 7 laptop went to sleep and woke up to the limited connectivity message, almost like a conflicting IP problem but have had no messages to confirm that. I also noted that by looking at the DHCP status from the WRT110's settings that it doesn't always show all connected computers even when they are accessing the internet.
The routers were hooked up so they could be seen as a single network and you could roam accross the property without switching networks. If I remember correctly, the 2 slave routers were hooked into the main router through the lan ports instead on wan ports. I can't say I completely remember or understand how it exactly worked, but it did. The only things that changed was adding a new windows 7 laptop and that Dell printer to the network. I didn't want to have to re-learn everything I went through to get it up and working before when it seems like the problem had to do with the new items added to the network. It seems to me like the DNS isn't working properly for some reason.
Some network details:
All connected via DHCP unless noted otherwise
WRT110
Cable modem via wan.
Wii console via lan
Vista Laptop via wlan
Windows 7 laptop via wlan
Dell printer via wlan
WRT54G
Windows XP / ubuntu desktop via lan (Static IP)
xubuntu / Windows XP laptop via wlan (Static IP)
LG TV via lan
WRT110 via lan
WRVS4400N
Windows XP desktop via lan
WRT110 via lan
The WRVS4400N hasn't been turned on over the winter as its' connected desktop is not really used any more, but its' wireless is used often in the summer as it's the closest AP to the garage.
Any help on this would be most appreciated as I don't have much hair left to pull out. I'm not opposed to setting up the network from scratch again, but want to know I'd have some guidance before trying to do so again.
Many Thanks,
E

Well I didn't get a change to update firmware today unfortunately. Will probably be Monday now as we have company all weekend.
In my hunt for the original guide I used, (from this site) I was unable to find it again. I found others that were not nearly as informative as the one I followed, but didn't explain about the pros and cons of setting it up lan to lan vs. lan to wan. The guide I followed also went into setting up differnt wireless channels and was way more informative than anything I've been able to locate this time around. I would be very appreciative if anyone knew where I could locate this guide again. I'm certain I had it bookmarked, but may have lost it with my HDD failure this past year and wasn't backed up.
Lastly, I realize I "could" use my other router as the main wan router, I just wondered if there was any advantage in doing so. I was also trying to find out which of the 3 routers had the best real world range, as I would use it to get a better connection in my garage.
Thanks again, and regardless I will still report back after the firmware update, and whether it fixed the problem.

7510 e printer looses the wifi connection after each print job; only switching wifi off and back on at the printer touch screen makes it reconnect. Tried more or less everything, including downloading updated software for the printer. Wifi router (unfortunately) is provided by internet provider. WPA2.

It sounds like the printer may have an unstable wireless connection.
What brand and model is the router?
Have you tried setting a static IP address?  I recommend setting a static IP address as it can resolve a lot of networking issues with printers in general.
The steps to do this are located in step 6 of this document from HP.

  • Dropping WiFi Connections after new Mac Min and Upgrade

First of all does anyone know why this discussion was archived when there was never a solution posted?
        https://discussions.apple.com/message/12586041?tstart=0#12586041
Secondly (why I found that thread among many others addressing the same problem). I received a new Mac Mini for XMas (cool, I needed it) which worked fine with my other computer and devices (2 iPads, 2 iPhones, 2 Win7 Laptops and 2 Win7 desktops) for a couple days, so I thought. Now all these devices got along very well until Mr. Mini comes along. Then I note wireless drops occasionally, it seemed to come back so I wasn't too upset, yet and decided to deal with it later and enjoy my vacation.
Now, after I allowed Leopard to do its upgrade (I had deferred that) I now have all the above devices dropping wifi and physical LAN connections as long as this Mini is powered on. I shut it off, Internet is blazing, I turn it on, Internet falters and screeches to a halt.
Since all my other devices have worked cooperatively for several years and this device comes along and crashed the party im pretty convinced its not my router or computers. I am not interested in trial and error here. i have many better more important things to do and this is Apples responsability to figure out. I am a very savy IT dude (career professional) and want to get to the bottom of this for everyone.
Soooo.... What changed? Why does this device kill my network when it is turned on (note, no alterations from out-of-the box to any network protocol or config.) and why does a thread (one of many) without a solution get trumped on by Apple?

  • Slow down after new printer

I just hooked up a new HP C3100 printer to my Mac Mini G4 1.25, 512 RAM. The printer is working fine, but my mini now runs at about 1/4 the speed it was before. Everything has slowed down. Is it some of the extra HP software, like HP device manager and HP Photosmart studio that got loaded from the printer's install disc? Can I fix this?

  • "Limited Connectivity" w/ new Vista

I just purchased a new notebook w/ vista and I don't have internet connection! I have 2 other notebooks w/ xp and they're working just fine with my wireless network. Wireless or wired, I can't get internet connection with my new vista. This is what I have: WRT54GS v6 Firmware 1.52.5

    - make sure wireless mac filter is disabled , if it is enabled make sure mac address of wireless adapter is in the list ( if permit only )
    - try removing you network settings ( under manage wireless networks ) and all possible networks that might be causing conflict , then restart afterwards
    - reconnect to wireless network: if it would not connect , try hitting diagnose and repair, vista would give you possible diagnoses and solution
    -  make sure no static ip address are set on tcp/ipv4 for wireless adapter  - if there is , make sure if is in the same settings with router ( same ip add.- range, dns, etc.. )
    hope this helps! GBU

  • Trying to connect my c4795 printer to a wireless connection

I am unable to connect my printer to the wireless router in my home.

Welcome to the HP Forums ashleyanderson8,
I see by your post that you are unable to setup the printer on the wireless network.
I can help you with this issue.
I have provided the steps for setting the printer up through Adhoc, then to Infrastructure so the printer will be on the network.
On the right bottom corner of the computer, click on the wireless icon and connect to the printers network name.
(it might take a minute or so to show up)
Once you get a solid blue wireless light on the printer, print a configuration page to get the printer's IP address.
    Printing a Network Configuration Page.
Type the IP address into Internet Explorer's address bar.
This will open the printer's network page.
Go to the network tab along the top of the EWS.
Click on Wireless Setup Wizard along the left hand side to begin configuring the printer.
If yours doesn't have the Wireless Setup Wizard, then select Wireless 802.11, just fill out the network information.
Type in the SSID. (your network name)
    Select Infrastructure.
Select encryption type. (WEP, WPA or Open-no passwords)
    Apply the settings.
You have now completed the Wireless configuration.
Now go back to the wireless icon on the bottom right corner of the computer and click it, select your network name from the list.
If the software is already installed for a USB connection, then go to start, all programs, HP, Printer, select Printer Setup & Software Selection, select connect a new printer.
If the full software wasn't already installed, install it now.
If there is anything else that I can help you with just let me know.
What operating system are you using? How to Find the Windows Edition and Version on Your Computer.
    Have a nice day!

  • Administrator access required to use a new printer?

    Hello.
Does connecting a new printer connection require administrator access in Mac OS X (e.g., 10.5.8)? I gave a client an non-administrator account so he cannot change settings and stuff for security reasons.
    Thank you in advance.

Yeah, but I don't want to ban the user from everything. Hmm, I wonder if it is possible to allow printers only.

  • Limited connectivity with Apple TV 1stG

    Hey folks,
im running a computer with windows 7. My itunes is connected to an Apple TV of the first generation. Everytime i download a movie or tv show via itunes and synchronize with my Apple TV afterwards, i get a limited connectivity after 5 minutes or so (time varies). Unplugging my wlan stick doesnt help. Neither does a deactivation of my wireless adapter. Only solution for getting my internet back to work is a reboot.
Anyone knows a fix or has encountered similar problems? Shutting off firewalls and antivirus software doesnt seem to help. A strange thing i observed is that obviously music files or small data volume arent affected by this problem.

  • Trouble connecting to oki printer

New 13" macbook pro not connecting to OKI data printer.  I tried downloading the drivers and still unable to print. Thoughts anyone?

    A similar situation--
'Ended up spending 6+ hours with OKI tech support. We tried many many things but in the end could not get my brand new OKI 511dn to print wirelessly when connected using USB via a hub. Tech support concluded that it must have something to do with the way the printer handles PostScript.... Something about Apple wireless products / Bonjour not being able transfer PostScript correctly via USB. So if I had bought a cheaper laser printer (non PostScript) then I should have had no problem--so goes the logic!
In the end, we were able to connect my new printer using LAN (going the IP and not USB route) via Airport.
In the process I ended up buying a 10-meter long USB extension cable which I won't be using, and I had to go out and buy a 15-meter LAN cable to "reroute". I am glad that I'm connected now but it took so so so many hours of trial and error and time on the phone with tech support (not toll-free where I'm located)...I am exhausted!
Bottom line: If you want to connect the latest OKI series color laser printer wirelessly through a USB hub and access it with Bonjour, you might want to go with a lower-end non-PostScript printer. Or, make sure that OKI has an updated driver that is compatible before whipping out your credit card.
I hope that this helps someone.
