Limited Internet Connectivity - 10.4.11 Airport wifi

Hi,
I have searched and can't find this exact problem. I had an internet connectivity problem after one of the more recent updates, and to fix it I had to enter the following DNS addresses in the network preferences:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Using both Firefox and Safari, I receive the "can't connect to the server" error no matter what website I choose (including 17.254.3.183). What is weird is:
I AM ABLE TO CONNECT TO WEBSITES THAT USE HTTPS:// on both Firefox and Safari - right now I am surfing around the citibank site and it appears to work normally. But, clicking amazon.com, google, etc., gives me "safari can't connect to the server" error. At first I thought that maybe it was showing me the cached page, but I emptied the browser cache and went back to the citibank site and it works, so does https://wachoviacreditcard.com - on both Firefox and Safari.
I am using a windows laptop on this wireless network and it works fine.
Help?

UPDATE -
I searched for "prefereces" in spotlight and deleted all of the preferences that looked like they had to do with networking. Re-started the Mac, ran the "network preferences" thing, chose my wifi network, and problem is fixed. What a pain.

the appletv will not be able to work on it's own
you can use a computer or iphone acting the role of hotspot login using it's browser and getting internet access and then sharing it with the appletv
so the appletv sees it as a wifi router it connects to

  • HP Pavilion 15t Issues with Limited Internet Connectivity on Windows 8

So, I just received my new HP Pavilion 15t-e000 CTO Notebook PC last week, it runs Windows 8, & it's a 64 bit.
The only problem I've had is staying connected to my wireless Internet. The connection will cut out at random intervals saying "Limited" instead of "Connected". I constantly have to disconnect and connect to my wireless Internet. It is especially frustrating when I am trying to download something that takes longer than a couple of minutes because the Internet connection cuts out and I have to start the process all over again.
I have tried pretty much every "fix" people have posted that have worked for some people. No such luck for me. Sometimes it seems like it will stay connected and then I try to connect to a web page or download something and it goes out again.
    - Turning off the "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power" under Power Management in the Properties section of my Wireless connection.... DID NOT WORK
    - Using the command prompt to reset the network adapter ... DID NOT WORK
    - Running the Network and Internet and whatever else Troubleshooters ... DID NOT WORK ***Update: If I run the network connection test via the HP Help/Support center on my desktop while the connection says Limited, I receive the notice that the "default gateway was not available" and the router was reset and issue fixed, etc. BUT, if I run the test while the wireless says Connected, the test always says there is no problem. And even though the test "fixed" the issue, it didn't because the Internet always cuts out again.
    - Windows Updates has installed new updates a few times ... DID NOT WORK
    - Forgetting the Wireless Network and Setting it Up as a new one again ... DID NOT WORK
    - Using my computer right next to my wireless router ... DID NOT WORK
The wireless router being used is: Cisco Linksys Wireless-G 2.4GHz Broadband Router and our network is WPA with a security code. We also have a SpeedStream DSL Internet thing (sorry, I don't know what it is called). The compatibility center says this router is compatible with Windows 8 by the way. Other computers running Windows 7 and Windows Vista, iPhones, and iPads all work fine.
My laptop uses Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230 and the light is on and it always says "device is working properly" in Properties.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated because I am at my wits end.
    Thanks
    This question was solved.

So, it seems my issue with the Limited Internet connection has been resolved. I didn't use my computer for two days and this afternoon when I turned it on I was still having issues. However, I went into the HP Support Assistant and it popped up that I had some updates to download and install, so I let it do its thing. It took a while because the Internet kept cutting out, but once the update for the Intel Wireless finally installed, my connection has STAYED CONNECTED. Finally!
I don't know why when I went into the wireless properties it said "device is working properly" and when I tried to Update the driver it said "your driver is the latest version" or whatever.
I suggest you go to the HP Support Assistant and check for updates in the "Updates and Tune-Ups" section. It was kind of random, but knock on wood my Wireless connection issue looks to be gone.
    Hope this helps
    P.S.
Here's a screen shot of what the HP Support Assistant (it is the one with the big question mark logo) main screen looks like :

  • Share Internet connection Mac  to PC vie Wifi

    Hello,
I am a new mac user.
I have a Mac which is connected to the Internet via an Ethernet cable.
I would like to create a wifi connection from my Mac to my girl friend's PC (vista) so she can surf the web too.
I have been confused with the "create a New network" with the airport. Is that enough? Should I also go to "share the internet connection" through my "sharing" icon in my system preferences... or is it the same thing... ?
I do not know if I make much sense....
Can someone please shed some light on this matter? Thanks.

Select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu and search for "Internet sharing."

  • No more internet connection to P1i via Airport Extreme?

After yersterdays (03-1-08) Airport Extreme update my SonyEricsson P1i gets no more internet connection via WiFi. Whats happening?

Seems Apple temporarily removed the the airport update with no explanation as to why, but i see it is once again available for tiger as well as leopard.
Not sure if anything has changed but maybe you should try reinstalling?

  • Sharing internet connection with Windows via Airport

    Happy New Year, all!
I have an iMac Intel Core Duo connected to an ADSL modem via ethernet. I'd like to share my internet connection via Airport with a Windows laptop (which is running XP with SP2). I've read that this is possible and I've tried setting it up but the laptop isn't seeing the Airport network at all.
I've created a network with security off, from the Airport drop-down menu in the iMac menu bar, turned Internet Sharing on (Share from: ethernet - to computers using: Airport). I have Windows Sharing and Personal Web Sharing turned on, and my firewall is off. But the Airport network still doesn't show up on the laptop.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong, or at least point me in the right direction.
    Many thanks in advance.

i am having the same problem. i have the mac connected but when i go to windows i can't get the page open that says to connect. when i run the mouse over the icons at the bottom of the page it shows the airport signal being excellent. but i just can't get to a page to enter the "key to connect". it is greyed out and shows that it is limited or not connectivity.
    please someone help!

  • Macbook No Internet Connection - full bar on airport

    having this problem today.
cannot get Internet connection to work. in safari it will load a page or two but wont load anymore.
The airport icon in the menubar shows full signal strength all the time.
The following messages appear in safari:
You are not connected to the Internet
Safari can’t connect to the server.
I've tried using the network diagnostics utility but that provide any clues. said it was a network problem.
tried restarting mac three times, turning airport off, erasing network in system preferences and rejoining.
Internet is working via Ethernet cable. never had a problem before like this.
have two other macbooks and on windows that are working perfect on same network.
    help appreciated,
    david

Well I have tried many of the sugestions without much improvement. I can say that sometimes it works for a while then it just slows or stops. Some have said it has to do with how Safari 4 handles web pages. If for instance their is a problem with hte Flash portion of a page Safari 4 will ignore that portion and not crash. It will load the rest of the page. But that does not explain why Firefox has the same issue. It still directs me to Snow leopard or possible a recent update to Airport that happen last month I believe that was applied to Leopard too. Whatever it is I have resorted to using Windows machine because it does not freeze up on my network.

  • IPad2 internet connection "disconnected" shown in AirPort Utility with Time capsue

Hi, our internet connection through our Time Capsule is working well with MacBook Air and Macmini but not iPad2.
In the AirPort Utility app of iPad2 there is a green spot at the picture of Time Capsule but there is a orange spot at the picture of the globe.  While in MacBook it is green both the globe and Time Capsule.
In AirPort Utility app of iPad2 after tapping at the globe the internet connetion show "Disconnected"
We are under proxy internet connection.
Wireless internet connection of this iPad2 was OK with other networks.
    Please suggest some solutions.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the discussions, MindSprout!
I'm following your post with interest because I have an HP 6210 as well with a 1TB Time Capsule. No issues at all since it was installed over a year ago. I'm not using Snow Leopard (yet), so can't offer any comments as to whether that might be one of the possible issues here, but that was my first thought.
If I get SL installed this weekend, I will post back with results.
The other thought that comes to mind is that there may be a problem with the printing instructions passing through the USB port on your TC. I can't answer why a hard drive functions perfectly, though.

  • Can't share internet connection through powerbook's airport

    Hi everyone,
I have always shared my internet connection from my built-in ethernet through my computer's airport. I just moved and the cable tech guy came and hooked up the internet and it won't work any more. I watched him and I don't think he changed any settings, but now when I go to System Preferences> Sharing > Internet, on the "To computers using" box there is no airport option listed.
See this screenshot for a better understanding:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/14029136@N02/1563721564/
Any ideas on why this has disappeared?
    Thanks,
    Isaac

    Hi Keith
Yes I see where you are coming from.
Perhaps the OP is mistaken because what has occurred to me is that the 'cable tech guy' (possibly) configured the aiport connection for internet connectivity. This would explain why internet sharing is available only via the other remaining ports; namely ethernet and firewire.

  • No internet connection despite having a strong wifi connection for iPad 2

    Hey all,
My wife's iPad 2 just stopped being able to surf the internet or use apps which require an internet connection. It connects to our home wifi network just fine and shows strong signal strength, but when she goes to use something requiring a connection to the internet, it tells her that she has no connection to the internet.
Anybody else have some tips as to what to do? I've read the link discussing Apple's recommended fixes but none of it described the specific problem we're having.
    Thanks!

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

  • Internet connection not recognized with Airport Express

Prior to getting my first Airport Express, I'd had my broadband modem connected directly to my Mac mini. Since I hadn't an iphone or ipad back then, wireless access wasn't an issue. When that changed, I purchased a first-generation Airport Express. My setup was as simple as it gets:
    a) Unplug the ethernet cable from my mini.
    b) Plug the ethernet cable into the (single) ethernet port on AE.
    c) Using Airport Utility, create a wireless network.
    d) Join that network with each of my devices - mini, iphone & ipad - so I might access the Internet wirelessly.
That's it. I've no printer or sound system to which I need wireless access. No extended wireless or other complicated networks.
My hardware setup needs haven't changed. However, because I was having intermittent problems with the wireless connection to my mini, I thought the new AE with its dual bands might help. I bought one yesterday, thinking to use it in place of the old AE.
I figured the setup would go as easily as it did last time. I was wrong. I've spent the last six hours trying to get the new AE to work. The problem is that the Internet connection is not being recognized. First, there was a message about a "self assigned IP address." I googled that, found discussions here about it, and (seemingly) managed to get rid of that problem. But now, no matter how many times I've unplugged/factory reset/restarted the various devices (AE, modem, mini), I can't get an Internet connection. The only way I've been able to write this message is to have reconnected the broadband modem directly to my mini. So I am completely without wireless at this point.
What is wrong? How the heck can I fix this?

Well, thanks to my own stubborn tenacity, I finally got my spanking new Airport Express to work. I'd tried several factory resets, following the recommendation that one power down all devices (not just the AE), plus other fiddling about, all to no effect.
The last factory reset I did differently. I kept my broadband modem and computer still on, and only unplugged the AE then plugged it in again while depressing the reset button for ten seconds. (Those factory resets aren't easy to do when you've only two hands!)
Finally, this time when I clicked the wi-fi icon in the menu bar, I saw the AE listed there, which allowed me to follow the setup process as described here.

  • Internet connection if hard wired not wifi

I could do with some help connecting my ipod touch to the internet. No wifi at home, just hard wired through router. Anyone who can help please!

Does your computer have wifi capabilities? If so, you may be able to share the internet connection that way. Without some kind of wifi, you can't connect the Touch to the Internet.

  • Internet connectivity drops when transitioning LTE/WiFi

I have an iPhone 5S 32G on Verizon using ios 8.1.1
Mail, messaging, browsing works using WiFi at home (known state).  Ride to work phone is not in use and LTE connected.  Get to work and phone connects to office WiFi. Internet connectivity (email hangs in 'Checking for mail...', iMessages do not arrive, etc.).  Ending apps (flick off screen) and restarting does not work.  Power down/up and WiFi again connects (and LTE) and internet connectivity is fine.   Go out of office to lunch (WiFi drop, onto LTE) and intenet connectivity drops again.  Power cycle, LTE comes up and connectivity fine.
Note this does not occur every time (sometimes I can go from home to work WiFi OK and vice-versa.)  But it happens enough to be annoying.  Silly to have to power cycle on transition.  IIRC this was not an issue pre iOS 8.x series.
I have reset network settings, rebooted, turned WiFi on/off to no avail so far.  Any ideas or anyone else seeing similar issue?

I am having the same problem. My MacBook, iPad, iPhone, and even the PC all lose internet connectivity;but home sharing still continues to function properly on ATV2.
I'm not too savvy on routers and modems, but could the problem be my router's capacity?

  • Do I need an internet connection to use the airport base station express?, Do I need an internet connection to use the airport base station express?, Do I need an internet connection to use the airport base station express?

we have no wireless internet in my house and the only internet connection is a laptop aircard that does not give off signal. will the base station express work without an internet connection being fed to it?

On the windows computer that is connected to the internet you will need to enable Internet Connection Sharing, see link below.  On the Airport you will need to turn Connection Sharing OFF as the Airport will not be handling NAT (network address translation) or be a DHCP Server as this will be handled by the computer with ICS.

  • Problem with sharing internet connecting with Wii via AirPort

I have an iMac running the latest updates of 10.0.4. My internet is DSL, so it comes into the modem via the phone, and then the modem connects to the iMac via an Ethernet cable. ie: I don't have a wireless network.
I just bought a Wii and want to connect it to the internet using the built in AirPort feature of the iMac. After I turn on Internet Sharing in Sharing, the Wii will find the iMac as an Access Point (that's the term in the Wii menu).
The problem I have is that the Wii will not connect to the internet unless I turn off the firewall in OS X. Obviously, this isn't a great solution to getting the Wii connected.
Does anyone have any idea of how to allow the Wii through the firewall without turning off the firewall.
    Thanks.

Though this link talks about blocking them, you should be able to reverse it...

In the Firewalltab>Advanced, is UDP being blocked? You can also open specific ports.
