Limited options for VGA display

When I connect my new intel MBP to a monitor it does not give me the resolution options to fill the screen fully. On my older G4 Mini Mac, and an earlier model intel MBP (running 10.4) I was able to set the resolution to 1440 by 900 and it would give me a full screen on the laptop and the TV.
On this MBP I can only set it up to 1280 by 960 at 60 hz, which creates bars on the side of the laptop screen and cuts off the edges of the screen on the computer.

Selection options for field display text instead of key

Hi All,
In the selection screen in my reports, when the user clicks on the selection options for one the fields to display the possible values they can use. Instead of the key the pop up box only displays the text for that field. This is an issue because one of the fields is equipment number and the user needs to be able to see the key not the descriptions. This is occurring in multiple reports and for multiple fields. I haven't been able to find anything in the infoobject properties or the query properties to change this.

Best option for best display without DVD

I've been reading all the b/g threads as research...
I have a 1920x1080 project timeline, 23 mins total time. Source material 1080i mixed with some other soure material. I export as Quicktime Conversion, choose NTSC 720x480 16:9 (853x480) to burn to a DVD in iDVD (max 480 lines). Part of my timeline has a high res graphic overlay, like a super in the corner over all video in the timeline. When I export at 1280x720 QT, it looks great in my external (DVI out) computer monitor. When I burn the 853x480 QT movie to iDVD and play in the (brand new) scalable Sony DVD, I choose the HDMI source (1080p) option and the image appears less than stellar, the graphic is smudgy and the titles are not brilliant sharp. Then I switch over my source over to VIdeo 1 (480 lines - composite) on the DVD player and the image looks pretty much the same, smudgy and not as sharp as I was hoping. It is playing full screen 16:9 but I'm a little disappointed in the quality of 480.
I have to play this video at a convention in a hall, with LCD panels and a large projector. Here's what I'm thinking. Why use DVD at all. Wouldn't I just want want to hookup laptops with VGA output to to go LCD panels instead of DVD players that limit the quality. QT player has the option to loop video. Same with computer out to projector via VGA. Is this the solution? Or will 720p choke on a PC laptop.

Thanks for the hedzup on VGA devices on PC laptops. So the substitue would be to insist on MacBook Pro for playback as they have DVI out, which would give me what I want on an LCD panel for quality video at 1280x720 or 1920x1080i or p? The video is only 22 min long.
But you have suggested another option as well? I didn't know this is possible. I have my MacBook Pro DVD burner, and my DVD player is Blu-ray compatible at HDMI 1080p with HDMI cable. Can I really burn a Blu-ray video with Roxio Toast to 1280x720 on my MacBook, and it will play at 720p in the DVD player, bypassing the limitations of iDVD? I understood Blu-ray was a completely different laser technology with unique DVD disks.

Options for VGA to S video/ composite video over Mini displayport

I have a mid 2009 13" macbook pro that i want to connect to a standard def tv with s video and composite inputs. I already own the mini displaport to VGA adapter. I have found two adapters on amazon that convert VGA to s/composite video. one is $4 and is just a cable. The other is a $40 box with vga input and video output. my question is, do i need to shell out for the expensive one or will the cheap cable do just fine? i have heard NTSC out a lot while poking around. does my computer have that?

This seems to be a connector which comes out of the mini-dvi port and has a connector for rca/svideo. I have a mini-dvi to vga that I bought with the mac and then I have an old vga to rca/s-video connector cable like the cheap option the original poster gave.
My mac responds as it should but the tv signal is totally screwed up. I also tried hooking it to a projector using rca and that said no signal. The mini-dvi port to vga works but I am not 100% on the vgs to rca connector I haven't used it in so long. It is going to be a pain for me to test it though.
Should this work? DO I need to mess around with refresh rates?

Need "collapse" option for folder display

My email works great on ipad, but filing emails into folders is a Nightmare for now! Can apple please look at what clever blackberry has done where:
A) you can "collapse" folders so i dont have to scroll past about 50 subfolders to find the folder i need to file my email in, and
B) it even allows you to start typing the key word on the email and finds the right folder for it! Yah! So awesome!
Email on apple ipad (and previously ipad) is really slow and annoying for filing emails by comparism.
I really look forward to a patch or version of mail for ipad i can download or something to fix this please?
I would even pay for it as ab app that integrates to the ipad email if need be as the slow process is really Driving me insane!
I will only continue to buy apple as long as it really is convenient to use. For now, on that point, the work blackberry is saving me much more time!

Xfinity X1 - Limited options for number of episodes to record?

Why does X1 limit the number of episodes to record to 5 (or All).. I am in a constant fight with the family.. It should be programmable, or at least go to 10, 20 before "All". Is there a way to program this beyond 5?

My suggestion.
Material A, bulk film . Create process order, receive one batch 2 tons, one inspection lot record results.
Material B, large roll. Create process order. Consume bulk film batch. Receive your 5 different batches, get five different inspection lots. Use the "copy inspection results" functionality and the system will automatically copy the results from the bulk batch to the 5 inspection lots for the rolls.
Material C,D,etc... Create process order for cutting small rolls. Consume larege roll material B. You'll get an inspection lot for each batch of the small roll you receive. Again, the copy inspection results forward functionality is used and the result from the large roll batch used is copied to theses small roll inspection lots.
If you set this up right, you only have to record results on the initial bulk film inspection lot.
The only change in your process as I understand it would be an extra process order. So the trade off is one additional process order, or rerecording results 6 to xx times. Of course every time someone has to manually retype the results, you have to worry about typos and errors. In addition you'll now have full traceability from bulk film to small film.

Is there a key on the MacBook Pro to toggle display options for a projector

I have had some difficulty getting my InFocus projector to consistently work correctly with my MacBook Pro. Is there a key on the MacBook Pro that toggles the options for projector display? There was one on my last MacBook and my previous PowerBook.

No, there is no longer a key to control external display modes (it's F7 on my 1st gen MBP, but the option was removed along with the embedded numeric keypad in the Early 2008 models). There's not a substitute keyboard shortcut (with the exception of installing a macro player like Keyboard Maestro). Your main option is System Preferences > Displays (as stated, ticking the box to show Displays in the menu bar provides a helpful shortcut).

Different scaling for different displays

Hi, so recently I moved into windows ten hoping that this issue be fixed, apparently, there is still no way to set different display scaling options for different displays, I have a 4k display, which I use with 200% scaling, but I also have a 1080p monitor.
Is there any way to set 200% scaling for the 4k, and then no scaling on the 1080p one?? This is the only reason I moved to windows ten and I would hope that this is supported, given that it is touted to have a lot better scaling support.

Yeah, I'm having the same exact problem - It seems that the thunderbolt minidisplay port is only able to output the analog VGA signal, not the digital signal to support DVI and HDMI. This is a bug that came up after installing 10.7.1. I bought my macbook air with 10.7 on it, upgraded it to 10.7.1 as soon as I got it, so I have never been able to use hdmi or dvi with my macbook air. This is an extremely frustrating problem for me, I used HDMI on a daily basis with my PC. I have spent many hours at the genius bar running diagnostic tests so Apple can get as much information as possible to create a fix for this problem. I have been emailing tech support for 3 or so weeks now, they keep saying that they are working on a fix and it should be out soon, but 10.7.2 has come and gone and I still have no HDMI functionality with my MacBook Air!

Maximum Thunderbolt/VGA resolution for external displays?

Until recently, I've been using a Macbook Air Core 2 Duo with a MiniDisplayPort output. This is connected via the Apple MiniDisplayPort > VGA adaptor to an LG Flatron W2246 22" display, and running 1920x1080 quite happily.
I recently bought the Macbook Pro 15" quad core i7 with the Intel HD 3000 and AMD Radeon 6490M - a much more powerful machine with a much more powerful graphics card.
However, it only seems to allow me a maximum resolution of 1600x1200 on the Thunderbolt external display port - it won't give me an option for 1080p.
Any ideas? It seems strange that the Macbook Air will give me higher resultions!

I had similar issues to Jason with the technical documentation. It was clear on the maximum resolutions for the laptop's screen and the max resolution on an external monitor, and the max for single and dual link DVI on the adapter pages, but vague on VGA.
I suspected it should work since I have a PC laptop with a graphics card that is a generation behind that can do the full res of my monitor over VGA, but thank you BSteely for confirming this.

No on the book title, no problem there.
The issue is: my book pages appear as on white paper, no background that resembles a open book and also no option to change fonts. The book was created in iBooks author, there was a problem going with the "Publish" menu route so I was instructed my Apple to "export" the file and submit that. I think that's the problem after reading that iBooks author is a hybrid epub file.
