Limited phone reception indoors

I have owned a BB Torch for 14 months. Within the last 30-45 days I get very limited to no phone reception in my office and at my home. I have the same office for over two years and lived in the same home for 19 years. ATT claims the phone is defective. It has never been dropped. It does not have any marks or scratches on it.
When in my office a an SOS signal. I get text messages and emails.
Any one know of a solution or is this BB a non-reliable phone.
Thanks.

Thank you for the response. I pulled the battery as you suggested and the problem still exist. I am using a windows 7 operating system.
have you ever upgraded your OS?
maybe give it a try and if that does not work then you hve a hardware fault.
Manual device OS upgrade instructions:
1. First locate your carrier and the OS file you wish to use.
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
2. Do a backup of your device first, using Desktop Manager > Backup. Close Desktop Manager upon completion and unplug BlackBerry. Get DM here http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/
3. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
4. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
5. This step is not needed unless there is an issue on next steps. Use BBSAK from BBSAK.org and wipe the device (after doing a complete backup) then after you get the error 507 (no OS installed) then proceed to step 6
6. remove internet connection to PC and reboot PC.
7. Plug in BlackBerry and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file was in.
8. if you did Step 5, restore from back up. Follow this KB if needed http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB10339
Enjoy the new OS.

  • My phone reception is horrible since installing ios7. My calls drop indoors and outdoors and normal places where reception is great, there are no dots at all. How can I fix this on my phone?!

Does anyone else have this problem? Even in my own bedroom my phone reception keeps cutting out, as well as every single grocery store I walk into.

You can try restoring the phone but if that doesn't work I would check the updates frequently till they come out with another update. I've herd many of my friends with some what the same problem but not as sever as yours.

  • Turning off all battery draining services but keeping phone reception?

Is it possible to switch off all the services that drain batter life such as GPRS, EDGE, WI-FI etc etc etc with one switch and still keeping your phone reception. I know you can turn the phone on Airplane Mode but this loses your phone reception.
Also, can i ask. Does airplane mode turn off everything i mentioned above?

    Airplane Mode turns off:
    * All data types (WiFi, Edge, 3G, and GPRS) (WiFi can be turned on manually)
    * Your telephone service
    * Bluetooth
    * Location Services
It doesn't turn off music and videos or local games. Games that use high definition or applications like Navigon use the most power drain.

  • Phone reception

    Hi
    I have the n900 and the n8
Is it possible to modify the n900 to  get the same phone reception as the n8
as i live in semi remote area n900 has no reception but the n8 has good reception
      Anyone have fix for this?

      Hi
since I couldn't edit my post ,some extra info if correct
n8 supports NextG with Telstra uses the 850 MHz 3g network which operated simultaneously on 850/2100 mhz and also uses HSDPA. 850 MHz is the same frequency as the CDMA network which provides greater distance coverage due to the lower frequency used.
Is there a software solution to make the n900 the same as the n8?
Or is the only difference the Arial.

  • 8130 Poor phone reception

    Hi I'm new here,
I have had a 8130 for over a year now and have had 2 going on 3 new phones sent to me because of the bad phone reception.
All my calls outgoing and incoming have dropped voice(like it cuts out).
I am so frustrated. I was wondering if anyone else has had that problem and if so what did you do about it.

    Welcme to the frums
Try removing the battery - for about 30 seconds - then replace it - allowing your phone to reboot.
    See if that helps!

  • No reception indoors

I just got myself a factory unlocked iPhone 3GS, but it pretty much loses all reception when I go indoors - reception drops to one bar and then usually to 'no service'. I've done some searching and it seems that a lot of people had this problem when the 3GS came out, but I haven't come across any recent information on this issue. I've tried all of the suggested fixes such as resetting the phone, turning 3G off etc, but nothing makes a difference. I basically can't send or receive calls when I'm inside! I've tried different sims and networks, but again, it makes no difference. The iOS is 4.3.1 and the firmware is version 05.16.02. I'm thinking this must be a hardware problem - if so, is there a known fix? Would appreciate any feedback, thanks.

Cell signal strength almost invariable drops inside any kind of structure. The radio signals are weak at best, and they do not penetrate walls and such well (especially concrete, brick or steel, or walls with lots of pipes, wires and so forth inside them).
If your phone works fine outside (or try next to an exterior facing window) but looses signal as you go deeper into the building, then it is the structure, not your phone, that is the problem.
In my own home, I have to use a 3g microcell in order to get reliable signal in most of the place. And my place is a wood structured building, but it still blocks signal as soon as you get just a few feet away from a window.

  • AT&T Phone Reception is Terrible. Way to improve it?

I know that the new iPhone comes out today. The big sell is the 3G, for better WiFi. What about the actual phone use? I don't know about anyone else, but I've had more dropped calls or "No Service" readings on this phone than any other service. I live in Connecticut, and find AT&T reception here to be pathetic. A friend of mine and I were in a restaurant where my phone was reading "No Service". Her phone was ringing off the hook. She had Verizon. It's frustrating to not be able to trust that my phone will keep a call going or not allow me to make a call at all! How do I improve reception? Is there a way to update towers? (Verizon had this feature). I need help.
    Thanks in advance!

You have to understand the difference in cell technology being used. Verizon is different than AT&T (and T-Mobile). They operate at a different carrier freqency. The frequency they are at just cannot penetrate buildings very good. Just the way it is. That is why the auction of the 700Mhz range recently is such a big news story, it can allow much better penetration and distance than what cell companies currently have to fight for. In a few years just wait to see how good cell phones get that use the new frequency.
As for updating towers, AT&T doesn't need to do like Verizon does as Verizons network protocols needed a way to update tower info, AT&T and T-Mobiles type of network doesn't need that.

  • Phone reception HORRIBLE, have to select from drop down menus 2x and INTERNET now freezes and is VERY SLOW SINCE NK1 UPDATE a week ago, no problems prior

I have had my Note 3 since about 14 months now and have loved it until the last Verizon update.  Since the update my reception is very poor / "breaks up" in my shop.  This is the same shop I have been working in for 6 YEARS!!! Also when I select a drop down tab like a credit card month and make my selection it NEVER saves the 1st time, always have to do it 2x.  The internet used to work great in my shop and could stream Pandora without an issue, now it take 2 minutes to load the first song.
I feel these simple software issues could make people feel the need to upgrade their phone even though there is nothing wrong with their current phone, pretty creative sales tactic if you ask me.  All I want is my phone to work like it did prior to the 1/16/2015 update.  If I have change my ways and run my off wifi everywhere like I had to back when I had Sprint I might as well switch to a cheaper provider.
My time is money and wasting time trying to make a phone work like it did before a software update is very frustrating. I have already gone to a Verizon store and was told to do a complete reset.  I spent 2 hours saving everything to my cloud, reset the phone and the same problems still exist.  Please help me find a solution to my problems ASAP

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Phone reception compared to original iPhone

I'm not talking audio quality, I'm inquiring about signal strength, for phone calls.
Is the signal stronger (more bars, fewer dropped calls) in marginal areas, or weaker, on the 3G?
    Thanks!

smithers - thanks for your reply, I think that is the question i meant to ask:
What is the best case comparison? With old and new phones on 2G, not 3G, is there a difference in signal strength, dropped calls, etc.?
I always had very good reception with my original iphone, almost no dropped calls, I'm in Baltimore. With the new phone with 3g on signal bars fluctuate a lot and in areas where the original phone, which my wife is now using, gets a strong signal the new one shows a weaker signal. Even so no dropped calls or issues. The signal bars bothered me at first until I tried turning off 3g and when the signal came back it was stronger with full bars in all the areas that the original phone gets full bars.

  • 4.3 upgrade causing terrible phone reception

    Hi,
After upgrading to 4.3, I have a dreadful reception - and can ONLY get 3G signal... If I change to none-3G reception, I get NO NETWORK message.
Any ideas how I can resolve this?
Help ASAP, as I - like most iPhone users - WANT TO MAKE PHONE CALLS!!

The basics from the manual are reset, restart, restore.
Have you tried any of these?

  • I phone reception??

my co worker and i both have i phones but we get different levels of reception
even when were side by side in the same office. my phone always seems to have better signal strength. am i lucky? or is my phone just somehow formatted differently?

It's possible (inches making a difference), especially if you have anything else in the area that may be emitting radio waves or or electronic frequencies, ie ,microwaves, satellite tv/radio, beepers, wireless house phones, wireless internet networks, even computers could cause a change in the signal strength you may be receiving.

  • Definitely something wrong with phone reception!

I saw Steve Job's video about the comparison of the reception with other phones, but after having my iPhone 4 since about 2 weeks now, I really notice a big difference with my previous 3g iPhone.
    - So many times a call drops even when I hold my phone with 2 fingers only, not covering the antenna.
    - Even when the phone lays on the table, someone who tries to call me can't because on the other phone, my iphone is "dead/closed".
    - Also still, while calling, the speaker switches on all the time because I probably touch the icon with my cheek. Those things never happened with the 3G phone.
I hope it's only a matter of updating the firmware...

Same problem here. My wife and I both have new iPhone 4s, having upgraded from the iPhone 3G. With the 3G my reception at home was OK - never had a dropout, usually around 3 bars with latest iOS. With the iPhone 4 I get dropouts depending on where I am in the house.
I thought the "clever" antenna design would improve my reception if I could avoid the death grip. Not so! Same deal with my wifes iPhone 4 dropping out as well.
It can't be a coincidence that 2 iPhone 3g s work well, and 2 iPhone 4s don't. Unlikely that both iPhone 4s are faulty - ie must be a design stuff up.
Hope you're right about the firmware - cos I don't think we'll see a hardware fix.

  • No phone reception and SIM locked

    Hi,
I reset my new iPhone 4s and when I turned the phone back on it asked for a PIN to unlock the SIM. I hadn't set up a SIM PIN as yet (not that I can recall, anyway) so now I can't make calls. In the top left-hand corner of the screen it says "SOS only" or "Locked SIM".
The reason I reset the phone was to try to get the "Cellular Data Network" tab to show up on the network settings at Settings/General/Network as the only internet connection I had been able to get is via Wi-Fi.
So now I have no phone connection as well as no data connection - which is annoying.
I am with Virgin Australia and have contacted their support line them but they are unable to help and have given me the Apple support number but noone is there as it's now after hours.
Can anyone help? I have tried turning off the Wi-Fi connection, then turning the phone off, taking the SIM out and then reinstalling it and powering up again. I've also synced the phone via iTunes but nothing has helped as it keeps asking for the SIM PIN.

Some carriers provide SIM cards with a default SIM PIN already enabled, & required. Don't know if your carrier requires such, but this is not uncommon. Your carrier should be able to provide you with a default sim pin, if not they can certainly provide you with a PUK code. Call your carrier again & hopefully you'll talk to someone who knows what they're doing. Tell them you need the default sim pin or PUK code. Either that, or you'll have to get a new sim. If you enter the wrong code too many times, it will permanently disable the sim.
