Limiting datasource replication only to 3.x format

Hi,
Is there anyway to limit the choosing of the relication format option (3.x format or new datasource format) by authorization?
I have raised an OSS but wanted to know if someone knows ways to do anything about it or not?
Thanks

Hi,
when needed, you can indeed convert datasources from v3.5 to V7, and back, using transaction RSDS. Choose "with export". This "saves" the "other" version, and so it can be "restored" afterwards via RSDS again.
This is also true after DS replication from a sourcesystem, when the system asks whether you want the new replicated DS to be 3.X or V7. Either you choose, you can convert afterwards if needed.

how do I change the format of my workspace it is limited to vertical only?

You really need to be more specific and use terminology from the program. There is no panel called the "edit window." And I can't begin to guess what you mean by "the complete window needed for full video screen." As Steven suggested, a screenshot could really help.
If you're basically asking how to rearrange the layout of the panels, you can do that by mousing over the divider between any two panels and then clicking and dragging side-to-side or up-and-down.

  • Limitations of read-only JE Environments

    Hello all,
I realized recently that our documentation on the limitations of read-only Environments is lacking. So for the next JE release I updated the javadoc for EnvironmentConfig.setReadOnly. The new text is pasted below. If you're using, or thinking of using, a read-only environment, be sure to take a look. I apologize for the lack of documentation in the current release, especially if you've used a read-only environment without understanding these limitations and this has caused problems for you.
    --mark
    setReadOnly
    public EnvironmentConfig setReadOnly(boolean readOnly)
Configures the database environment to be read-only, and any attempt to modify a database will fail.
A read-only environment has several limitations and is recommended only in special circumstances. Note that there is no performance advantage to opening an environment read-only.
The primary reason for opening an environment read-only is to open a single environment in multiple JVM processes. Only one JVM process at a time may open the environment read-write. See EnvironmentLockedException.
When the environment is open read-only, the following limitations apply.
. In the read-only environment no writes may be performed, as expected, and databases must be opened read-only using DatabaseConfig.setReadOnly(boolean).
. The read-only environment receives a snapshot of the data that is effectively frozen at the time the environment is opened. If the application has the environment open read-write in another JVM process and modifies the environment's databases in any way, the read-only version of the data will not be updated until the read-only JVM process closes and reopens the environment (and by extension all databases in that environment).
. If the read-only environment is opened while the environment is in use by another JVM process in read-write mode, opening the environment read-only (recovery) is likely to take longer than it does after a clean shutdown. This is due to the fact that the read-write JVM process is writing and checkpoints are occurring that are not coordinated with the read-only JVM process. The effect is similar to opening an environment after a crash.
. In a read-only environment, the JE cache will contain information that cannot be evicted because it was reconstructed by recovery and cannot be flushed to disk. This means that the read-only environment may not be suitable for operations that use large amounts of memory, and poor performance may result if this is attempted.
. In a read-write environment, the log cleaner will be prohibited from deleting log files for as long as the environment is open read-only in another JVM process. This may cause disk usage to rise, and for this reason it is not recommended that an environment is kept open read-only in this manner for long periods.
For these reasons, it is recommended that a read-only environment be used only for short periods and for operations that are not performance critical or memory intensive. With few exceptions, all application functions that require access to a JE environment should be built into a single application so that they can be performed in the JVM process where the environment is open read-write.
In most applications, opening an environment read-only can and should be avoided.

You've asked an interesting question! I'm afraid that the answer is that it's not possible in BDB JE today.
What you'd really like for your second case is part of the type of functionality provided by MVCC (Multi-Version Concurrency Control). In case you're not familiar with that term, MVCC is the database feature which guarantees that all reads made in a transaction will see a consistent snapshot of the database and that the transaction will successfully commit only if no updates it has made conflict with any concurrent updates made since that snapshot. Unfortunately, while our sister product, BDB (C) has that feature, we do not yet support it.
I think your alternatives are to do achieve your point in time snapshot from the file copy based backup, from the second process, or from an application level mechanism that locks out other updates.

  • Media Encoder 5.5 Windows 7 - Only see 4 export formats

    Windows 7
    Media Encoder 5.5.1.12
I only see 4 export format in export settings
    FLV
    F4V
    H.264
    MP3
ALL other formats are not displaying. What should i do? I ran the update and still only 4 formats. I am trying to encode a Windows Media file and WMV is not in the output list. What could cause this problem? WMV is installed in my Windows 7 system. i checked through Windows Media Player.

What other Creative Suite programs are installed? The set of supported codecs in AME is controlled by the application or suite that installed AME. The set of export formats you see is consistent with Flash and several other programs; Premiere, After Effects, and Encore makes the rest of the export formats available.
So if you have PPRO, AE, or Encore installed, then we'll need to troubleshoot why formats are missing.

Just as a preventative measure try running Disk Utility in the Utilities Folder inside the Applications Folder. Run Repair Disk Permissions on the whole hard drive.
According to this disuccsion group posting on MacRumours.com, Error -50 is a permissions error and repairing permissions may be enough to get you going again:

  • I'm using GarageBand 10.0.1. Do the built-in drum tracks only come in mono format, or is it possible to make them true stereo (i.e. Left and Right channels outputing different signals, to sound like the kit has been panned across the stereo field)?

I'm using GarageBand 10.0.1. Do the built-in drum tracks only come in mono format, or is it possible to make them true stereo (i.e. Left and Right channels putting out different signals, to sound like the kit has been panned across the stereo field)?

All the Drum Kits available for GarageBand are mixed in stereo.
Logic provides the same 18 Drum Kits also as "Producer Kits", which are multi-track outputs,. Each Drum Kit Piece (Kick, Snare, HH, etc) and also room mice and overheads are routed to individual channel strips.
Here is a screenshot of one Drum Kit in Logic Pro X with individual Channels Strips. Each Channel Strip can be loaded with individual effects (compressor) and adduced with individual sends, etc.
What that means is that all the Drummers are professionally recorded and sampled with individual mics. The Stereo Drums Kits are just "stereo mix-downs" for easier handling and less CPU demand. I explain all the details about the Drummer ecosystem in my graphically enhanced manual "GarageBand X - How it Works"
    Hope that helps

what are Architecture Limitations with Replication of VM connected with Physical Mode RDM in vsphere replication. Why VMware is not supporting this?

vSphere Replication does not work with physical mode RDMs. This is because of the way that vSphere Replication and physical mode RDMs work.
As outlined in this: VMware KB: Difference between Physical compatibility RDMs and Virtual compatibility RDMs
It isn't currently possible for VR to do what it needs to do with physical mode RDMs.

  • Premiere Pro Does Not Support Audio-Only Capture For Some Formats, Such As HDV?

In the PPro CS 5.5 Help file  under, "Recording audio", it says:
"Note: To capture an audio-only file from a digital video source, choose Audio from the Capture menu in the Logging pane of the Capture panel.
"Premiere Pro does not support audio-only capture for some formats, such as HDV."
I'm shooting in HDV and if I want to capture audio only, would I just need to switch my setting to DV?
The only thing is my Canon HV20's HDV audio is MPEG-1 Audio Layer 2, 16 bit, 48 kHz.
My DV setting is PCM audio, which I think is a better quality format, right?
Would there be any noticeable difference?
    Thanks.

Capture your HDV material in the normal way and just drag audio only from the source monitor to the timeline.

  • Why will Premiere Pro CS6 only import to mpeg format?

Hello, so I've been using Premiere Pro CS6 now for only a few months and when I imported (using "capture" or F5) and tested some footage  from a HDV camera using a miniDV tape, I noticed that Premiere Pro would only import to mpeg format. I looked up ways to change this but couldn't find anything. So in short I'm asking if there is a way to change import format so that whenever I do import from DV tape, it isn't mpeg?
    Thanks!

    ...footage  from a HDV camera...
    ...only import to mpeg format.
HDV capture will always be mpeg.
whenever I do import from DV tape, it isn't mpeg?
DV capture will be .avi (pc) or .mov (mac).
    note:
Capture from tape, import file based media.
    Capturing and digitizing
Also, what's the problem with mpeg?
Why are you determined to change it?

    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

  • Format Payments (Evergreen): Limiting users to only print 1 copy at a time

    Hey all,
We are running across something that some of you must have experienced in submitting your BIP reports like AP checks.
I want to force the number of copies to 1 when printing a particular job. (Format Payments) which the next step would be "XML Reports Publisher".
Our users are NOT to be allowed to accidentally print more than 1 copy of this job at a time. They are using check stock and I have to keep them from "accidentally" printing too many at one time.
First, I tried simply setting the Concurrent Copies profile to "1" for that responsibility. Not acceptable because the user can override it.
Second, I tried personalizing the form FNDRSRUN but I couldn't keep the copies from being "editable" by the user.
I have an SR open with Oracle and they asked me to first, modify the printer driver:
    Our driver looks like this:
    SRW Driver: PSTPL
    Driver Method: Program
Driver Method Parameters: Spool File (Checked)
    Program Name: FNDPSTAX
    Arguments: -pn$PROFILES$.PRINTER -f$PROFILES$.FILENAME -c1 -Fpasta_pdf_legal.cfg
I would expect only 1 copy to print but when I submit/requests the job for 2 it does in fact print 2. I am stopping/starting the concurrent managers after I change the driver.
Anyone know of a way to restrict the copies to 1 where the user can't change it?
    Thanks,
    AG

    Rownald,
Correct, when I submit the concurrent request with 0, nothing prints, 1, one copy prints, 2, two copies print, etc...
I have tried sending the command from the OS command line and it works up until i try to send in the number of copies by substituting -c with -c2 or -c1. I get an Illegal Option -2" message.
I've tried to personalize the form concurrent request form(FNDRSRUN) but it I can't keep "copies" from being changeable by the user.
Maybe I will have to look into the bursting option.
    Thank you.
    AG

  • Site to Site Replication only works for a few hours in the morning (each morning)

We have been fighting an odd active directory replication issue for over a month now and I am hoping that someone can provide some insight. We have 5 AD servers in the following orientation...
    Site HQ
    - PRIME running Windows 2008 R2
    - AD2 running Windows 2008 R2
    Site COLO
    - AD3 running Windows 2008 (not R2)
    - AD3NEW running Windows 2008 R2
    Site BRANCH
    - AD4 running Windows 2008 R2
The domain is at the Windows 2008 Functional Level.
There are always on site to site VPNs between all 3 sites and IP Intersite Transports Site Links defined for all 3 possible connections with Cost of 100 and interval of 15. Each IP site link is configured with a schedule of available all day long.
Every day the following sequence of events happens...
    * Somewhere between 6:30 and 7:30am all the servers start to sync with each other perfectly. We can make AD changes and they replicate across all servers without issues. During this time all the repadmin commands work well across all servers.
    * Typically somewhere in the 10:30 to 11:30am time frame we start to get errors replicating data - specifically between the HQ and COLO sites. This manifests itself as Event 1232 Call Timeout from the DC RPC Client and and Event 1925 from the KCC. Additionally
repadmin commands fail when attempting to connect to the BRANCH servers.
    * For the rest of the day the intra-site replication between PRIME and AD2 work fine - and periodically the BRANCH AD server is updated as well. But the COLO sites remain unreplicated and continue to get errors for the remainder of the day. While this down
    - the ability to ping and remote desktop between the servers is perfectly fine - so even if there were a network hiccup that happens - the network is stable for hours without the sites recovering.
    * Magically the next morning around 6:30 and 7:30am all the servers are able to replicate without issue and we get 3-5 hours of immediate replication and then it happens again.
As I stated above - there is always on site-to-site VPN connections between all 3 sites that are actively monitored by PRTG. These connections remain open all day long. The Site topology has the COLO servers attempting to replicate with the HQ servers -
and both sites have 100MB data connections that remain active during the entire time. Additionally PRTG bandwidth monitoring shows that these links have no spikes in traffic anywhere near the max capacity of those links during the time that the outages begin
nor during the rest of the day.
Does anyone have any insight as to why these servers would stop communicating with each other about the same time every day and report errors? Also why it would magically start to work again each day without any changes being made to the network or the AD
    configuration?
This has been going on for over a month now. When it first started to happen we had 1 Windows 2008 server and 2 Windows 2003 servers in the HQ. We phased out the Windows 2003 servers and upgraded the functional level to Windows 2008 - that did not solve
the problem. We tried to put a new Windows 2008 R2 server out at the COLO site hoping that if it was limited to the other server then only the one server would be impacted. But now they both appear to be having connectivity issues at the same time.
It is as if there is one hung connection that is blocking all the other syncs to this site and then someone each morning that bottleneck is released.
Thank you in advance for any direction you can provide.

As was stated above - ALL Domain Controllers have direct access to each other through Firewall to Firewall site to site VPNs and the Inter-Site Transport Links mirror that setup. So from the OS perspective any of the AD servers can directly connect to any
    other one.
There are 3 IP Inter-Site Transport Links defined
HQ < - > COLO   (Contains HQ and COLO sites) Cost 100  Replication Interval 15
HQ < - > BRANCH  (Contains HQ and Branch sites) Cost 100 Replication Interval 15
COLO < - > BRANCH  (Contains COLO and Branch sites) Cost 100 Replication Interval 15
And on IP Inter-Site Transports "Bridge all site links" is enabled (although disabling it doesn't fix this problem as we have already tried that).
Right now the servers are claiming (via Active Directory) to be unable to replicate with each other. But I am able to do direct pings as well as open stream sockets using "telnet <otherserver> <port>" on ports 3268 (gc), 88 (kerberos),
389 (ldap), 135 (replication), 636 (ldap ssl), 53 (DNS). So there is nothing that I can see between the servers that is blocking TCP connectivity.
I cannot seem to make this any clearer. The sites are 100% functional and responsive for several hours per day - and then mysteriously go into a state of complete denial for a lack of a better word for the rest of the day - only to return back to normal
    again reliably each morning.
It is as if the sites get into a mode where something in the RPC area are simply refusing to talk to each other despite the servers having full access at the network level.
Another data point to add to this mystery. While it is in the state where the HQ and COLO servers are refusing to sync with each other. You can launch the AD Users and Computers snap-in, right mouse click on the domain, change the Current Directory server
and all 5 servers show up as ONLINE. You can pick any of them (including the one that is unable to replicate with) and make a direct change on that server.
So while the servers are complaining about being unable to talk to each other - the snap in is connecting between those servers and is able to modify it without issue.
Conversely - when the replication is failing the DNS management tool is unable to connect to the remote servers (i.e. COLO can show itself and the other COLO server. HQ can show PRIME, DC2, and DC4 without issue. But no overlap).
Not sure that helps at all - but shows our frustration when two servers refuse to replicate but you can easily remote connect from one to the other and make the change.

  • Why do my em dashes separate into two en dashes only in digital (ebook) format?  How do I stop that?

I work for a publisher and we use InDesign to set up our print files to be uploaded (usually in PDF format).
Then I create a new file for the ebooks, removing extra pages, marking the table of content entries as internal hyperlinks, etc.
Since the Kindle Plug-In is still in beta and cannot, for some unknown reason, recognize a TOC created using hyperlinks (even though that is what the instructions specify), I convert to an ePub, check it, do any revisions necessary, save that as the ePub upload.
Then I convert the ePub to mobi using Calibre.
In both instances, my em dashes separate into two en dashes in the digital versions.  I use the InDesign Type drop down to select the em dash and it appears as a single symbol or glyph.  The print file looks perfect.  It is only when it is converted to a digital format that the em dash splits in justified format.
Do I need to find a special glyph to use that is not contained in my font (Times New Roman)?  I really need to fix this!  Any help is appreciated.

    Hi,
Thanks for sharing the files. In the document "OutpassageEbookTextcontent.indd", instead of a em dash, two en dashes are used and probably this is the reason you are seeing them in the EPUB. You can use Find/Change dialog to figure out where these are used. I have sent an email listing down few places where these are used as your files might be confidential and I refrained from posting text snippets on the forum. Please take a look and let me know if I haven't understood your problem correctly.
