Limiting fonts in applications

Greetings. Pardon my ignorance, but is there a way to use Font Book to limit the list of fonts which appear in any particular application? For instance, in our CADD application, the entire list of fonts appear totaling approximately 200, including foreign language characters. Selecting a font for a text box can be time consuming when selecting from a long scrolling list. I would like only ten or so fonts to appear in the list. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Font Book is SUPPOSED to enable one to deactivate Fonts so that they don't appear in the Font Menus of applications.
But at least in Leopard, it doesn't -- you deactivate the Fonts and they all still appear in the Menus. I don't know what's up with that, but it's a huge problem.
I once tried Suitcase Fusion as an alternative to Font Book, but it was a disaster, messing up all the Font Menus in various applications.
Can anyone help us with this?

Help N8 Font Zoomer application ruined Font

hi,
I used the Font Zoomer application to increase my phone font size to 140%.
But when i reset it to 100%, i still feel that it has a bold kind of effect, as every thing feels different.
I am uploading images of my home screen and some homescreen from different mobiles. Please check if you feel some difference and tell me how to recitify this error.
If you look in my homescreen the clock number "11:39" seem thick and bold while in other home screen the number are not bold.
Also if you see the date on " this is my home screen.jpg", you see it is bold.
While in other images you see that it is not bold.
Please help!

Has novelty worn off and you want to un-install this application?
Have to say that it is strange that Psiloc Font Magnifier has not been released for Symbian^3 OS yet, although believe on some Symbian Anna firmware versions so whether there can be issues magnifying I don't know.

Bundle font with application

This is probably an easy one.
I have got a font that we purchased online. It's a non-standard font.
I use it in my application.
How do I package this font with the application so that everyone can see it regardless of their browser?

IMHO, it may not be easy. Browsers display HTML using the fonts installed on the user's system. Also, browsers usually allow the users to override the document settings and choose their own font preferences.
- Microsoft provides a web embedding font tool (WEFT): http://www.microsoft.com/typography/web/embedding/. But this is non-standard and will not work on other browsers.
- You can use programs like Flash. Programs like Flash are plugins/addons to the browser and perform their own rendering.
- You can provide the pages which needs to be in a specific font as an image in your application. (Run the page on a machine which has the fonts installed and capture the image). Including the pages as images is in a way taking over the rendering of HTML from the browser...
If HTML needs to be displayed in a custom font, the application can provide links to the font file and provide (platform-specific) instructions on manually installing the font and setting the browser preferences correctly. The browser will also need to be likely closed and restarted for the changes to take effect...

Clean and tidy fonts between application 1.1.1 and 10G

i am testing Apllication Server 10G on forms and i have noticed a differnce between the clean and tidy fonts that are in application 1.1.1 and forms 10g.
in application 1.1.1 the fonts visualized when i run forms on the application are very clean and tidy (i use standard arial fonts)
in application 10g the same froms visualized the fonts are NOT clean and tidy and it is difficul to view !!!
What kind of problem is this ???
The situation is worst than the old version or i have forgotten some thing ???
The installation is a standard installation !!!

we are speaking of high end routers that are expected to process tens of thousands of flows per second even just differentiating on source and destination ip addresses there should be enough variety in your traffic to use the parallel CEF links in a fair way.
CEF uses an EXOR of ip source and ip destination and an hash seed that changes only when the system is reloaded.
etherchannel can use EXOR of different fields:
MAC SA exor MAC DA
IP SA exor IP DA
L4 SA port exor L4 DA port
but only one of them applies to a type of traffic at a specific time.
Or you expect a few very high volume flows on the links (DR or DB synchronization just to say)
So to answer your question, unless used for connecting two data centers, I don't expect to gain in fairness by using a bundle.

Limited fonts when writing E-mail on Firefox AOL. Want to add more fonts.

If I sign on directly to AOL, I can access all of the fonts installed on this computer. When I sign on to Firefox and then write AOL mail, I only see seven (boring) fonts available. How can I get AOL "Write Mail" on Firefox to give me access to all of the fonts? I'd appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks!

What do you mean with: ''If I sign on directly to AOL''
What program are you using in that case?
It is possible that you have a limited font choice if you use a browser like Firefox.
You would have to contact AOL or check their FAQ to see if they support this for Firefox.

Global Default Font for Application

Hi,
I'm using flash builder 4.5 and I would like to set a custom font as the default font for the entire application.
I've tried setting fontFamily="myCustomEmbeddedFont" in the main application with no success.
Is there a spot that I can declare a custom embedded font and then set it to be the global default font for the entire application?

Font crashing applications on my mac

I recently installed about 300 fonts on my brand new iMac, intel-core. I didn't think it would be a problem seeing I know people with alot more on half the computer mine is. Problem is when I open Adobe Flash cs4 and change the font on a text field, when im am scrolling through the fonts it crashes the program:(( I deleted all the fonts for now, please give advice if any.

It depends on the fonts and which applications they are being used in. Some might be compatible on one Mac but not another.
Remove the font you are trying to use with CS4 and see if the app still crashes.
Open the FontBook application. From the Menu Bar, click FontBook/Preferences.
Make sure: Validate fonts before installing is checked.
Also, with the FontBook app open, select the font you are trying to use with Adobe Flash, then from the Menu Bar, click: File / Validate Font
If no problems were found you will see a green check mark on the right.

Using Newly Installed Font in Applications

I recently installed Concielian font. It is in the Library and in User. It appears in the list. However, I cannot access it in any application including Text Editor. Please help.

I believe I originally did a restart after installing the font. At your suggestion, I did a cold start and that did the trick. Thanks.

Font Management Application

Hi,
I work for a small design company (of 4 people) and we are looking for a font management system that will connect over our personal server.
This way we can share all the fonts we download etc...
Can anyone suggest an application that isn't too expensive? The only ones we've found are £1,000 or more.

A font server ideally stores the organization's entire font collection. The way that fonts are deployed from the server to the client varies by how each server is configured.
All of the servers will have a client application that connects to the server and includes auto-activation plug-ins for professional design applications. This client also allows the ability to preview, browse and search the font collection (whether the fonts are installed or not).
For example, with Universal Type Server, fonts can be replicated from the server to the client in three ways:
1. ALL - all fonts that the end user has access to (permissions controlled by the admin) are delivered to the end user when she connects
2. On-Demand - fonts are deployed to the end user only when activated, or previewed, and are cleared off of the end user's machine when not in use.
3. On-Demand local cache - fonts are deployed to the end user when required, and are cached for future use.
With many agencies having font collections that run into the tens of thousands, you can see how choosing the right setup can be critical.
Hopefull this helps clarify how font servers work.

Embeding fonts in application

How can i create a font from a .ttf file? Java does it when invoking methods GraphicsEnvironment.getAllFonts() or GraphicsEnvironment.getAvailableFontFamilyNames(), but only installed fonts are included. I did not find a font constructing method using file. How to derive font from uninstalled .ttf file? For example if you want to embed a font in your application (just to be sure that font will be there)?

I mean what to do when i want to use a particular font available on my system but not sure it is installed on other computer. If i have installed a font named "ParkAvenue" it would be in the list of strings returned from
GraphicsEnvironment.getLocalGraphicsEnvironment().getAvailableFontFamilyNames() and i can write something like that: Font font=new Font("ParkAvenue", Font.PLAIN, 12); and use it in my application without any problem. But if that font is not available on your computer there will be a run-time error when you try to start my application. So, how can i embed a font in an application?

Font Capture application error

I've just bought Adobe CS5 Design Standard, and while Photoshop and Ilustrator have installed perfectly, I get the following error when I try to open InDesign: Font Capture: InDesign.exe - Application Error.
I'm unable to uninstall and reinstall Indesign only, as it seems the entire Creative Suite is a single file in my file manager. Does anyone have advice for me?

Many thanks for your response. I ended up on the phone to Adobe tech
support, and eventually (hours later) it seemed that all the InDesign
plugins on the disk I bought were faulty, so new plugins were downloaded to
replace the old ones, and now my InDesign is working.
I'm not sure if this is something that might affect all CS5 InDesign users
though.

is that the problem has been sorted out.

Installing fonts through application.

I done a mac application for installing the fonts in Users/Library/Fonts/ and /Library/Fonts/ (Local). Whether it is correct according to the apple guidelines? whether this get approved in apple store ?

ResourceBoundle is just file.
steps
1) create file with .properties(ex--filename.properties)
2) then store what u want with key and corresponding value
ex:-- Name =Daya
Age =18
etc.... and save it.
3) if u want Name visible in Arabic than Daya should be like some what like this \u0644\u0644\
ex:- Name = \u0644\u0644\ ( i don't now how can i type arabic unicodes
you need to know arabic latter in unicode
search google for arabic latter in unicode)
the above steps for storing unicode values in .properties
In java application u need to read the properties file
exp:
Locale currentLocale = new Locale("ar","LT");
ResourceBundle labels = ResourceBundle.getBundle("fileName",currentLocale);
String Name = labels.getString(key);
and u have to set the Arabic font to componet.
ex: componet.setFont(new Font("aribic",FONT.BOLD,12);
componet.setText(Name);
First create small application with Label and test it

Moved Helvetica font causing applications to not open

Hi,
After following some instructions on the forum to resolve a problem with apple mails doc indicator not showing the new mail number alert I moved my partners Helvetica.dfont to her desktop on her ibookG4 osx 10.4.11. Now almost all my applications wont start up! They just bounce once in the doc
I have tried simply moving the font back to the system/library/fonts directory but this makes no difference! Please help!

It appears to be time for a relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...
