Limiting the amount of Colors to match 60's footage

Hi, was hoping someone could come up with a creative solution for this one.
I'm working on a project matching 1960's footage with recently shot footage. The big difference I'm seeing is that the 1080p 4:2:2 XD CAM clips have millions of colors. Watching old interview footage, I'm noticing that not only are the colors muted, but the colors are limited. Instead of millions, it looks like thousands or even hundreds. Just less information.
Don't want to export first to achieve that kind of color limiting. Any ideas? Can I do that in COLOR? Final Cut?

PLD - limiting the amount of lines

I have read some of the other threads regarding limiting the amount of lines in a repetitive area. I tried to apply this to my current layout, I am formatting a check, the print is going into the tear away section on the check.
The check is printing 15 lines in this area and I would only like to print 13. I change the format section to 13 lines in repetitive area, with nil effect on the output. Are there any other options?

Have installed GERMAN WS2012 R2 Essentials and have added plus configered WSUS role. Have "unfortunately" installed ENGLISH SQL Server Management Studio. Have connected Management Studio to

On current situation, I’m also guess that this issue (above error message) may be caused by different language
versions (GERMAN Windows Sserver 2012 R2 Essentials and
ENGLISH SQL Server Management Studio).

Limiting the amount of space available for time machine

How do I limit the amount of space time machine is allowed to use on my 500gb external hard drive? I need the rest of the space for other stuff. Is there a way to partition the external hard drive or make time machine think there is only a certain amount of space available?

Yes. Open up Disk Utility (located in utilities in your applications folder), and select the drive. Make sure you select the actual Drive (the one with the amount of space listed on the name) on the panel on your left. click the partition tab, and open the drop down menu under "Volume Scheme". choose the number of partitions. I have my external drive at 2 partitions, one for TM and one for general files. move the slider bar that will appear in the panel below to determine the size of the partitions. the size of you TM-dedicated partition should be at least twice the size of the drive you are backing up.

Hey guys,I'm using CR 8.5.3I have a quick question that hopefully one of your can help me out with. I have a report that works perfectly and uses a couple different parameters for sorting etc.. I'm using an SQL database and for a particular report, after inputting the correct parameter values the report would generate for example 12,000 records on 2000 pages. What I'm trying to do is create a new parameter that would limit either the amount of pages that gets generated or the amount of records. I think I'd rather limit the amount of records to start off with and I would like it to be from a list of predefined amounts. I.E. "ALL", "First 10", "First 50". Essentially I'm trying to create a report that gives me a subset or sample of the main report so that it could get printed to pdf and sent to customer for review. I can only go to 'TopN/Sort Group Expert' menu option if I add a summary field, otherwise the option is greyed out. If I do add a summary field and go to 'TopN/Sort Group Expert' I have no formula button. I can select TopN from a drop down but then I have to hard code the N value. I'm start to wonder whether its even possible to do it dynamically in CR 8.5. V361:Sorry JJurroz, Here again I have CR XI, so not sure if 8 will do this. Create a number parameter {? Top_N} then go to Group Sort Expert, you should be able to click on the formula button for Top N and put your parameter {? Top_N} in the formula.

Limiting the amount of APEX logins

I had an interesting request where 1 of my clients wants to limit the amount of active log-ins a user has. They run into issues where some users open up multiple browsers and log-in a bunch of times. They want to only allow a max of 3 log-ins for the user at 1 time. Is that possible to check?

Apex is does not maintain a persistent connection between the end user and the server and the communication happens when a request to the server happens(page load,submit,ajax etc). So "active sessions" is not well-defined.
For instance users can close their application page without logging off, or they can just leave that page idle.All of these would be active sessions in Apex.
You can check the tables <b>APEX_WORKSPACE_ACTIVITY_LOG(you might be interested in the columns:SECONDS_AGO,IP_ADDRESS,AGENT,APEX_SESSION_ID) and APEX_USER_ACCESS_LOG,APEX_WORKSPACE_ACCESS_LOG</b>(for login details). Formulate a definition for active sessions based on your business case and the data in these tables and add that to the authorization function.You might have to use a time frame(say 30) mins and check for the number of distinct sessions/logins for that user during that time or set a maximum no: of logged in sessions in such a time frame and maybe couple it with some activity from such a session in the last 5-10 mins.

What are the steps to using camera & color space matching on footage with multiple cameras?

I am new to speedgrade, and need to use the Camera and Color Space Matching technique to automatically color correct my sequence which contains footage from multiple cameras. I have watched all the videos on speedgrade on AdobeTV and lynda.com that I can find, but haven't been able to find one that actually shows me how to do so. Can anyone point me to a video/tutorial where I could learn the steps for the process or outline them for me if that is easier?

I'm in the same boat. There is a new 'camera matching' function that premiered at NAB 2013, but when will it be actually available...? As to your original question, look up getting a proper White and Black balances with each camera first. Learn how to work with HSL and RGB values etc, and I think Karl Seoule has some videos that cover this under 'Color Finesse' vids at Adobe TV. Also check out the '3-Way Color Corrector' tuts and "Secondary Color Correction' tuts as well. And finally either on Adobe TV or Creative Cow there is on video that actually talks about matching either 2 shots or 2 cameras as well.
All this is to say here is no easy/simple way. I'm hoping when Adobe introduces the Color Matching in Speed Grade we can just use stills as reference in Speed Grade, develop 'looks' that match the cameras and then apply the looks in Premiere without having to use the huge .dpx files that we have to use in Speed Grade now, but that may just be part of the process.

First, report the incorrect charges to the bank that issued your card as incorrect/fraudulent. Then contact the iTunes Store and explain the situation to them:

If these charges were for apps you did not purchase rather than being billed multiple times for an app you did buy, you should also immediately change the password on your iTunes Store account.
You may also want to just remove your debit card information from your account, at least until you get things sorted out. I usually recommend against using a debit card in any situation where it is stored in the online store for just this reason; should something go wrong or someone obtain access to your iTunes account, your bank account can be drained dry very quickly. If you don't have a credit card, I'd suggest purchasing and using prepaid iTunes cards. That limits the amount of damage any fraud or problem can do to you.

How can I limit the amount of space on a Time Capsule used by Time Machine?

I know that you cannot partition a Time Capsule drive. However, I was wondering about other options for limiting the amount of space used by Time Machine so that I can use the rest of the space for other purposes.
I heard something about creating a disk image on the Time Capsule to limit the amount of space used by Time Machine. If I create a disk image, would TM just use all the space that's not part of the disk image? How do I access the disk image part? Can I manually drag and drop files to it from my Mac like any other external drive? Could I set up the disk image part to work with a Windows computer?
I've also heard things about modifying sparsebundles which I don't know anything about. How does this work? What happens to the space that is not part of the TM sparsebundle? How do I access it? Can I manually drag and drop files to it from my Mac like any other external drive? Could I set up the extra space to work with a Windows computer?

Some other things to make note of:
Some disk image formats have a maximum size and only use that size after they have had to expand to actually hold that much data. Make sure you are not using this type of image so you can guarantee the space is reserved. Sparse bundles are like this. I haven't read up on the sparse bundle trick, but I assume it's something to do with setting a maximum size for it.
When you open up the Time Capsule disk, you will first be looking at the normal storage space. When you create an image, there will be a file you click on that mounts another drive that uses space on the Time Capsule. This shows up as just one file unless you open it to see it's contents.

I have a client on a fixed budget who wants a booklet with some pages in color. I use a printer who charges fluctuate based on the amount of color coverage. Can Adobe InDesign tell me the percentage of color used on a document?

I'm used to seeing digital printers charge based on color vs. black per page, but never by coverage, but then you used to be able to buy software instead of renting it, so times change.
It's pretty common for files with Black ink only to really have some color on them -- printers marks, for example, or they go through a profile conversion and print as rich black.

Slow iMovie - Does it has limitation in the amount of video files it can edit?

I would like to do some videoediting of holidays video with my iMac i7 12gb ram.
I have imported with iMovie my dv video and this worked fine. But starting from a certain point iMovie became really slow. Thinking of a memory issue, I added 8gb ram (now 12) but the problem persisted. So I decided to move video files from mac hdd to my gbit lan NAS, and than I got a firewire800 hdd.
I got a MyBook Studio II (http://wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=210) which I tried using first RAID1 and than to increase speed I configured into RAID0.
Now, what I noticed is that if the project has a total of:
- 29gb of video files, editing the project (move, delete, add) and play works quite fine. (project file size about:17mb)
- 53gb of video files, editing is slow (about 7sec to move or delete a clip) (project file size about:128mb)
This happens both if the video and pj files are on the iMac hdd or in the firewire one.
Does anyone of you know if iMovie has some limitations in the amount of video files it can edit, or if it is not performing correctly under certains conditions?
Furthermore I will start editing 1080/50p video since I got a new camera. Keep going with iMovie is the right way? Do you suggest other products?

It appears you have enough processor speed, memory, and hard drives.
Once these are taken care of, there are two main things that cause slowness
1) Events should be logical events. You should not dump all your footage into a single event. A project can use clips from multiple events and the performance is fine. In DV for example, an event should hold maybe two tapes maximum. If a single tape has three logical events: say Birthiday, Vacation, and Christmas, make three events.
2) if you editing feature length movies, you should use Final Cut Pro X. For short movies iMovie is fine. For movies in the middle, it is more of a judgment call. The reason is that iMovie renders everything in one pass. Final cut Pro does background rendering as you go. If this were the case for you, you would be able to edit at full speed, and you would only notice the slowness or a crash when you shared the movie.

Color correction - matching color from two captures?

Hi, Shooting inside the same room with the same light, I seem to have got the walls a little more yellow in one of my takes. There is a subject (blue shirt) and a mechanical system (painted blue) with the background an off white paint on a block wall. I have used Color Corrector but can't seem to get it just right. Is there a way I can sample the color in a good frame, then use the sample to correctly match the incorrect segment? Thanks.

Here's a trick that may help. Try applying the 3 way color corrector filter, reducing the saturation to 0 and limiting the effect to high luma areas (the white walls). I had a shoot a few years ago with flourescent lights that created a color fluctuation that was only visible in white areas. This fixed it.

Inconsistency in the Preview with Color Noise Reduction

Adobe guys: You have a bad variable access, bad pointer, or something in Camera Raw with regard to Color Noise Reduction...
If I have color noise reduction turned off (set to 0), I see this:
And in fact it converts to just what shows in the preview:
If I bump the Color noise reduction slider up to 1 with the Color Detail slider at 100, I get this wonderful DeBayer smoothing in the preview:
But alas, this is what comes out in the conversion:
The smoothing shown DOES in fact match if one sets the Color Detal slider to 50 at the middle of the scale:
This is just an annoyance, but it does take some trial and error to see what you really want the Color Detail slider set to.
By the way, I notice that the jaggies come and go seemingly randomly when the Color Detail slider is at 100 and I move the Color slider. I suspect you're reading the wrong or random location for Color Detail, or maybe have an overflow/underflow condition somehow.

What you are seeing is a limitation of the diagonal/curve behavior of the current demosaic method on colored boundaries, combined with the (preview-quality) color noise reduction with specific settings. It is the demosaic strategy that is at fault here (and is why you see these results in the final exported result).
