Limits for email move to archive mailbox?
Exchange 2010/Outlook 2010
Is there a limit to how many (or size) for moving emails from Exchange (on premise mailbox) to the Exchange Archive (on premise mailbox) using drag and drop within the outlook client?
I have a user who says it will work on the first move and fail on the second attempt. I do not know how much data they are trying to move, I do not have that information. Is there a limit? Is that limited by memory, network or some sort
of limit? Would cached or non-cached outlook make a difference?
Hi,
I suggest to use this command to view statistics for that user's archive.
Get-MailboxFolderStatistics -Identity usename –Archive
Then compare the results with
mailbox archive quota.

Hi,
After upgrade the exchange 2010 SP1 to SP2, all users calendar and task items entries also moved to archive mailbox from user's active mailboxes.
We like to move 90 days older emails to archive mailbox but not calendar & task items to be moved.
Any solution to move back those older archive calendar and task items to active mailbox users and also any settings to stop further to move calendar & task items to archive mailbox in SP2?
Thanks
MDHi,
Exchange 2010 SP2 RU4 added support for Calendar and Task Retiontion polices. For more information about that see the below blog post which also includes a workaround if you don't what these folders to be processed by MRM.

How do I create an Archive Mailbox for a pop3 account on an iPhone4?
How do create an Archive Mailbox for a pop3 email account on an iPhone4 running iOs6?
You can use classifications but there is no auto feature to archive like that on web apps.
In terms of the blog, Like I have said to everyone that has posted about blog preview images:

Set the default size for all archive mailboxes including the ones it will be created in the future
Hi there.
We are in the phase where we Will enable Online Archive for all the users.
We see that the default Archiving Quota is set up for 50 GB. We have found this powershell command on MsTechnet forum
Get-Mailbox -resultsize unlimited | where {$_.ArchiveDatabase -ne $null} | set-mailbox -ArchiveQuota 7GB -ArchiveWarningQuota 6GB
which I guess it will set up the ArchiveQuota to 7GB to all the users, true?
The question is if this command will work only for those users who currently have archiving enabled or it Will also work for those users which we are planing to enable archiving in the future?
The idea is that everyone would not have 50GB by default and this should be a default value also for those who currently do not have archiving enabled.
with best regards,
bostjancHi there.
I don't quite get it.
I have created "for example" a database called: STH ARCHIVE.
Then if I take look on properties of this database this is how it's shown:
And now here comes the "tricky part" which is a little bit odd to me.
I have enabled archive on my mailbox and selected this STH ARCHIVE DB to hold this archive mailbox.
Then I have manually ran ManagedFolderAssistant for my account: Start-ManagedFolderAssistant -Identity "my-email-address"
And after I have greped the size of my mailbox:
Get-Mailbox | Get-MailboxStatistics -Archive | Sort totalitemsize -desc | ft displayname,totalitemsize, itemcount >C:\report-archive-database-mailboxes.txt
And get the result:
Personal Archive - MYUSERNAME
TotalItemSize: 4.071 GB (4,371,586,689 bytes)
ItemCount: 55227
So now I don't understand how I was able to go thru that sizes which are in the upper print screen of archive DB properties?

Increasing Email Size Limits for some users
Hi All,
For some users (management) i needed to arrange that they are able to send bigger files then the default 10MB limit to each other.
I used this procedure to do so,
https://www.simple-talk.com/sysadmin/exchange/increasing-email-size-limits-for-your-high-profile-users-in-exchange-2010/
In a nutshell:
Set Global Transport Org. Config to 200MB
Set Transport Send and Receive connector to 200MB
Created a Distribution group adding the MT members and me (for testing)
Created a transport Rule for the 10MB limit for all users and exception for the distribution group
(Believe me, i am not happy with the 200MB size limit)
All seems to work but i have one issue that i cannot tackel or maybe it is by design.
-Managemant can also send big files to all
users who do not have this privelige, this is not someting i want, sending 100MB+ attachments to over 150 users.
Is this by design or do i mis something?
Thanks,
RonHi RonGielgens,
Attachment size in exchange has to be set on
Global settings
Connectors (send and receive connectors)
Mailbox
The global settings will affect all the others. of course connectors will affect specific servers and mailbox one user. You have to set the global to the absolute max size you want to allow in your organization.
after you do this you will need either to set the 10MB on each mailbox
Get-Mailbox | Set-Mailbox -MaxSendSize 10MB -MaxReceiveSize 10MB
Then change the limit on specific mailbox
or another way is to create a transport rule that will reject the email if the attachment size it > 10MB unless the sender/recipient is the required user or group.
so basically create 2 transport rules
1. reject messages sent to anyone with attachment > 10mb unless the recipient is userX
2. reject messages sent from anyone with attachment > 10mb unless the sender is userX
Normal case it should not allow.
Thanks, MAS

Specifying separate UNC path for Exchange Archive Mailbox Database
Hi All,
In Exchange Server 2013 SP1, is it possible to specify UNC path to a separate hardware appliance ?
In this case I'd like to create the Archive mailbox database on the CIFS share hosted by EMC Data Domain to perform the hardware based data deduplication & compression.
Does this path must also be accessible on the DAG passive node in DR data center ?
/* Server Support Specialist */Hi ,
most Scenarios are not supported while there is still some Scenario where you can use shares.
"If access to a disk resource requires that a share be mapped, or if the disk resource appears
as a remote server by means of a Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path
(for example, \\servername\sharename) on the network, the disk storage system is not supported
as a location for Exchange Server databases. "
This is also true for the Arcive DB.
Please note that UNC directly with Exchange 2013 is possible with limited support only, and no
version of Exchange allows you to store databases on an UNC path (except the one when you map
SMB 3.0 shares to a VM) :
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee832792(v=exchg.150).aspx#Best
(Please also note the recommendation not to use deduplication by the storage.)
Don't try to do that, because even if you configure that you will run into a non-supported situation.
I strongly suggest you to avoid that.
In addition, there is a webcast from Scott Schnoll about virtualization and file Shares that makes it a Little more clear.
https://channel9.msdn.com/Events/TechDays/Techdays-2014-the-Netherlands/Exchange-Server-2013-Virtualization-Best-Practices
While the session is about virtualization, on 13:00 they start a discussion about storage.
There is the reasons discussed why not to use UNC for your databases. (Don't worry, they start discussion with NFS)
The presentation shown on 21:43 is what you need to think about when planning to use UNC resources.
Storing an Exchnage DB on UNC is not supported.
Regards,
Martin
Hi martin,
So how are we going to Deduplicate the data ? Any suggestion perhaps ?
My understanding is that Exchange Server 2010 onwards doesn't have data deduplication.
How about mapping the UNC path as mapped network drive ?

Strategy & Options for Desktop/Laptop/iPhone/iPad Email Syncing and Archive
I'm looking to investigate alternatives and, ultimately, blow up what I'm currently doing for email "sharing" across my Apple products.
I currently have an iMac 27, MacBook Air, iPhone and iPad. I POP email from multiple accounts to my iMac and iPhone. I read and respond to urgent email from the iPhone and then Bcc: myself so I can clean up the mess when I'm back on the iMac. Not good I know.
I POP to the iMac, filtering via SpamSieve, then manage everything into folders with MsgFiler and then archive everything with MailSteward.
I like this setup and have about 7-8 years worth of email in MailSteward and would definitely NOT like to disrupt this.
I also really like SpamSieve and MsgFiler. Great products!
However, I now definitely want to be able to access and deal with my mail from any of the four devices BUT still get everything on the iMac so it can be the central repository and archive.
I guess I'd like to ask the Group about my options for POP and IMAP, or maybe a mix (?) and how I could use all four platforms while still having the desktop be the primary email system, as well as the archive.
Thanks all,
MarkWith how you describe your workflow, continuing to use POP accounts would be the way to go, since all messages can be downloaded iMac without indication of whether Read or Unread.
With multiple devices, using IMAP is a lot cleaner, but would be cautious about using SpamSieve, MailSteward and the other thing.
I have never seen a compelling reason to use MailSteward or anything similar. I have most every legitimate message ever received or sent, kept at the ready for searching in Mail, where I have way over 100,000 messages, 15 plus accounts, and many On My Mac mailboxes.

Changing archive to delete for emails?
Using IOS 7, does anyone know how to change archive email to delete email when I swipe a particular email in my gmail account?
Go to Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars, go to the mail account in question, go to Advanced and change the setting under "Move Discarded Messages Into:" from Archive Mailbox to Deleted Mailbox.
-
Over the years and upgrading machines, I now have over 20k of emails in the import mailboxes within several folders. How can I archive these in way so the are still available, if necessary, to search, but don't load and slow down my mail app.
Ok Thank you.
I wont worry now.
Just maybe dig in deep and delete the deleted mails that are still around and that will hopefully clean it up a bit.
Many thanks for your help and advice.
Regards

Why has my computer slowed down? I downloaded the update yesterday and since then the color wheel keeps circling and I can't download or move emails to my different mailboxes. There is no consistent patern in which emails can be transferred. There is a consistent patern with the color wheel coming on while I am typing and stoping the recording of the keys.

Can Someone please tell me how to save movie for email & web?
Can Someone please tell me how to save movie for email & web? I have created a few small videos, (last one was only 3 minutes), and I have tried to save them many different ways, but when I try to send them via email, it takes forever to send and for others to open.
People send me video links all the time, and they never take that long. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for your help.
SharonaPeople send me video links all the time, and they never take that long...
Karl is (aside many other things) expert on how-tos and codecs, but one more thing...:
video link:
you have two options for sharing video with the world: you can send the whole file to someone - as an xx MB attachement to a mail...; or, you load up the video to some website (.mac, youtube, whatever...) and send just the link x kB to that site...
asymmetric:
normal "internet accounts" are asymmetrically (A-DSL)... means: you have FAST downloads, but SLOW uploads.... (my socalled 2k-DSL connections offers downloads 20x faster then my uploads, just to give you an impression...)
so, uploading my videos to my website needs easy >30min for a letssay highly compressed 2min project.... the link to it is just >1kB; the download/watching of the movie is almost instant on/realtime....
now, back to Karl, concerning choosing the right codec/compressor... Karl?
i DO love these phrases in news-shows... -

Does Mail (Mavericks) have any limitations for size, numer of mailboxes, folders, messages, etc. ?
Ah, so you're not considering running OS X Server here, you're running OS X client and asking about the mail client — looks like both the Apple bot that suggested that support article and I were confused.
Mavericks Mail.app does have a few flakies that I've noticed but does work. If Mail.app gets confused, restart it and see if it's less confused. If the accounts get confused and start tossing the password prompt, remove and re-add the accounts. When re-adding the accounts, don't use the Internet Accounts path, use the Mail > Preferences path.
Do make a backup or two before the Mavericks upgrade, and most definitely configure and use Time Machine or some other backup tools after the upgrade.
If you do decide to go to server (which is where I'd thought this question was originally headed), then you can download everything to your own local server — that'll take some add-on software to pull the mail from your ISP, or a set of mail-forwarding rules to push the mail, and some command-line tweaks to relay the mail out (as you're probably on a DHCP dynamic residential IP address), but that'll work, too. -
