Limits on data length when exporting to text?

CA Forum: Exporting
Are ther and limits on the with of a report when exporting a report to a text file. I'm in the process of creating a file for upload into the banking system. The file is exported as a text file and contains 1464 characters in width. I am able to display all the fields in my report preview, but when I export the file to .txt it seems to cut it off at character 206.
Any suggestions
Thanks

Hi Kevin,
Check to see if you can export to csv and get the length you need. I'm thinking about writng a program to convert csv to fixed length ascii records.
Ooops, looks like it might be 256 for csv. But... if a program was written to look at the csv field count to specify the fields in an ascii record then you could use csv to a mulitline detail report and the record could be built that way. I'm thinking of writing it for myself, but why not share.

EXIF data filtered when exporting to Flickr
I've noticed that some EXIF data seems to be filtered out when exporting photos to Flickr via Aperture's built-in Flick exporter.
For example, if I export same photo using Flickr's upload page, then using Aperture's built-in Flickr exporter, then re-download original back to my computer, the fields like "lens size" are missing from the copy exported by Aperture.
There's few other fields that are silently filtered out by Aperture. Looking at the differences between two copies of the same photo re-downloaded back from Flickr, examples include fields such as digital zoom, subject distance, focus mode, macro mode, firmware version, serial number, owner name (and the list goes on)...
While one could argue that some fields contain personal information, there's my real name on my Flickr account, so having serial number or owner name in EXIF data removed is kind of pointless for my use case. Also, there's tons of photos I exported in the past to various photo sharing sites containing these headers anyhow.
I'd really like to preserve some interesting and useful (technical) fields such as lens size or subject distance. Is there a way to tell Aperture "I don't care, the world already knows this stuff, don't filter EXIF info when exporting"?Hi Raja,
Not sure, what version are you in, but must not be in latest.
You have to write a e-text to get csv/txt of the desired format.
By default, if you are not in latest version, you will see some data when you select csv without E-text template -
Prblm in Date format when exported to excel
Hi ,
I had a problem when using the Export To Excel option from Portal. The data is getting fine populated in Excel but it's in General No Specific Format. But I wanted the data to be in its original format even when exported to Excel. Like...
Country -
Date Goods Delivered
India----
01.01.2001
America----
05.12.2004
Singapore----
12.04.2003
Here the country should be of type TEXT FORMAT and Date Goods Delivered should be in DATE FORMAT(Here its visible as date but it's in General format)
I am facing problem with date, it is displayed(01.04.2006) as shown above but it's in general format. I wanted it to be in date format at excel.
I am in BW3.5 with portal version EP7.0
Please suggest the solution and I had even gone through previous forum questions related to this but couldn't get.....the solution.
points will be assigned...
Regards,
rudra.Hi,
My end users requirement is to get all data in Standard format. We can't ask to select the date column and change the format in excel as there are more date fields(columns ).
Using macro i had one problem, even though i am not sure..
i can't enable the macro to get enabled in page load of export to excel as it is to be done at users end...
If theres any possibilty of enabling....pls let me know
Thanks for your valuable suggestions...

Data disappears when exporting.
Hi,
I've just discovered a problem with one of my reports that seems to be dropping information from the details when I export it to a file type. I have reports set to run in enterprise on a weekly basis showing outstanding purchase orders. The report runs correctly when I run it directly from Crystal Reports XI r2, but when it is exported to a different file type, some lines of detail are missing. I have exported to a number of different file types, and still the problems occur. I can print the report from Crystal, and all the data is there.
There aren't any formulas suppressing any data anywhere in the report
Anyone have any ideas why this is happening? When you use a report to export, it is best to ensure :
1. all fields on each sectoin are same height ; and
2. all fields witin the same column are aligned.
Otherwise, some data could be missing when export especially Excel because some rows / columns are merged. -
How do I keep the date/time when exporting photos?
When exporting photos from Photos.app on my Mac, it doesn't use the metadata that it displays in Photos--it uses the current date/time. So when I export a photo from 2010, it says it's dated 2015 when I import it into Aperture.
Is there a way to export an image with its original timestamp? Is this a bug? Thanks. If you are editing tif files, then you have only a couple of choices.
Flatten the image before you save it. This will reduce it down to one layer. That's the smallest you can get.
When you first open the image, look to see if it's 8 bit or 16 bit tif. It won't help you, but if the image is 8 bit, and you save it as 16 bit, you will have dramatically increased the size of the file for nothing. If it's started as 16, no worries!
check if you are saving with compression. Tif compression is lossless, so unless you did something like resize+resample, it remains the same bit density, etc, so should be just as printable as what they sent you (unless you messed up!).

Data lost when exporting from iPhoto?
When exporting photos from iPhoto, the descriptions of the photos (here bird and animal names) get lost. Is this true, or are we doing it incorrectly?
Thanks!
EdIt depends on how you exported. To get the ITPC fileds written to the file it must be exported via File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with Kind = JPEG and the two checkboxes checked:
That will embed the metadata into the exported file.

When you export to excel, the character fields and numeric columns gets re-arranged, but all the fields will be displayed in this case.

Hi,
I am using SSRS report to display the data from database. In that data, One of the column is DATE. when I am exporting to Excel all that dates are displaying fine except 1/1/1800 12:00 AM. Instead of 1/1/1800 12:00 AM it is displaying XXXXXXXXXXXXXX values.
Please help me to fix the issue.
Please let me know if more clarification required.
Thanks In advance.Hello,
We can use Cstr() function to convert the Date type data to String data. Suppose we have a field named DateTime, please refer to the expression below:
=Cstr(Fields!DateTime.Value)
Then we can get a string type data. There is an article about SSRS expression, you can refer to it.

If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know.

Time Data Type when Exporting to Excel
Hello,
I have a report I wrote using crystal reports XI. There is a datetime field which I converted to a time field through the use of a formula and the time function. When I right click on the field and view the data type it says time.
However, when I export to excel the field comes up as a custom field. How do I get it so that the exported field will appear as a time field in excel?
Thank you for your help.>

The time looks like this:
21:38
10:53
00:14

Batch change does not change meta data name when exporting or copy
I use batch change to change the name of an event when photos from more than one source (camera) are imported. When I copy or export the photos the name reverts to the original meta data file. I do this to override duplicate names. For instance photos from two cameras taking pictures of the same event can have identical names such as IMG_0100. Iphoto does not show all the metadata on info but does show the change in the name when viewing info in iphoto.
Is there some way to permanently change the name on photos using a group or batch method? No you're not changing any filenames at all.
There is no way to change a filename in iPhoto at all. What you with Batch Change is add a Title to the photo. A Title is an entry in the metadata.
You can set the name of an exported file to be the same as the title, when you export... if you choose that option.

Video and Audio Files are different lengths when exporting
I'm just trying to get comforatable with a much faster Windows workstation on PPro and AE.
I just exported my first project from PPro to burn to Blu-ray like I've done dozens of times on our older Mac Pro w/o problems.
My Ppro file is 7:04:18 in length. I export the video as an mp2 Blu-ray video and import it into Encore and it shows up at that same length.
I export the audio as an aif and import it into Encore and it shows up as 7:06:19 in length--2 seconds and 1 frame longer.
Everything is CS6. File is 1920 x 1080, sq pixels, 29.97.
Any suggestions as to why this is happening? Thanks for the feedback. I exported to aif as I was going to burn the Blu-ray on our Mac Pro in Encore, since we don't yet have a Blu-ray burner installed in our new Windows workstation.
Upon seeing your note, I re-exported the project as you described and placed the wav and mp2 in Windows Encore and they are both the same time length.
It seems the aif should be the same too... but I assume wav is likely the preferred format on Windows so will be using that as the new workflow.

Data trouble when exporting data from Access to Oracle
Hey,
I have several tables in Access in which I am exporting to Oracle. The exporting works fine, but some of the ' are getting converted to ? during the export, so any fields that have words like government's or women's are now spelled government?s and women?s. Any ideas on why this would be happening and on how to fix it?
ThanksWhat is your database character set in Oracle? What is your NLS_LANG parameter set to on the client?
I'm guessing that your data contains some of Microsoft's special characters (things like curly quotes) rather than the standard ASCII apostrophe. Both the database character set and the client NLS_LANG would have to be configured to a character set that supports those characters in order for the data to be transferred correctly.

Many problems with the 'Export to Text' (.txt) in CR Xi
Hi,
I have listed many problems with the 'Export to Text' (.txt) function of CR Xi.
These problems are related to this export format only (meaning everything works fine in the Viewer or in the 'Export to PDF')...
- Multi-columns layout do not export as Multi-column (export only a one column);
- Numeric values with parenthesis for negative values or with a fix currency sign at the leftmost position are not exported correctly;
- Fields having a Suppress formula which is "WhilePrintingRecords" do not appears when exported;
- Fields with 'Suppress double value' checked are not always suppressed when exported to Text.
- 'Keep Group Together' flag is not working.
- 'Reset Page Number After' simply does not works when exported to text;
- 'Keep object together' on TextBox/Section is not working.
- Whenever a group is ending on the last line of a page, the the following page as the same Group header as the previous group with no records until the page is filled, then the PageBreak and PageHeader is missing but the records of the following group appears.
I would like to know what is the status of the 'Export to Text' function (is it a deprecated function not supported anymore???).
If still supported, when will these bugs be fixed???
ThanksHi Rene
Export to Text is supported till date. Crystal Reports 2008 also supports this with Keep together working however when I tried with format with multiple columns, it didnot show up in the exported text file.

Dear memebers,
what is Data Length Semantics property of text box?
what's its behavior?
thanks
Muhammad Nadeem
[email protected]Values CHAR, BYTE, null
Refer to Built-in
GET_ITEM_PROPERTY
Usage Notes
- If a null value is specified, then byte semantics will be used unless the environment variable NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS is set to CHAR when the form is compiled.
- When the Synchronize with Item property is set, DATA_LENGTH_SEMANTICS will be ignored in a subordinate mirror item. The DATA_LENGTH_SEMANTICS property is always taken from the master mirror item. A compiler (generator) warning will be issued if a non-null value is specified in a subordinate mirror item.
- A compiler (generator) warning will also be issued if a non-null value is specified in an item whose datatype is neither CHAR, ALPHA, nor LONG.
