Line 6 KB37 Midi Nightmare in Snow Leopard

Hi
I bought myself a new imac i3 yesterday for music production. I have been using a G5 with Leopard for years using Logic 8/Reason with my Line 6 KB37. I have installed on the new mac all the line 6 drivers and audio plays from the Line 6 fine when I load a track and hit the space bar, but the Line 6 will not transmit midi notes to logic or Reason when I press the keyboard or contral buttons. On the transport bar in Logic where you would normaly see the numbers change with each press of the keys or transport bar I get nothing. Any suggestions.

When I press Test nothing happens except the test icon going blue. There is no arrow on the bottom of the KB37 icon.
No arrow at all? Try creating a new MIDI config, see if the KB37 shows arrows there. What happens when you doubleclick the KB37 icon?
Line 6 say the latest drive is SL compatible (4.7.1) and it is installed.
That should be OK then.
Have deleted and reinstalled twice. How can I turn midi off/on?
I don't know - what does the KB37 manual(s) say?
I am fairly sure this is an OS issue because I simply took off my desk the old G5 and put in its place the new i3 and loaded the KB37 drivers in after a OS update and plugged in the KB37.
Hmm... the G5 is a PPC machine, the i3 is an Intel machine, if you just copied over all your software there is bound to be trouble... or did you freshly install everything on the i3?
I did get it working for about 5 mins in Logic immediatley after the driver installation but once I closed down Logic and reopened it all midi send transmissions were gone and have not returned since either in Logic or Reason.
Looks like a driver issue.
Have you tried repairing permissions/disks in *Disk Utility?*

I have an iMac mid-2010 running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Is it possible to install Mavericks and Windows 8 on separate partitions while keeping Snow Leopard? If so, can you describe the steps?

That should not be a problem as long as there is enough room on each partition for each OS.
    You would:
Use Disk Utility to partition your HD
Download the Mavericks installer and install it on one of the open partitions (when you run the installer from your 10.6.8 partition, it will ask you where you want to put Mavericks, and you will specify one of the open partitions).
Use Boot Camp to install Windows on another of the open partitions. Mac Basics: Using Windows on your Mac via Boot Camp

  • Caught in a conundrum while trying to upgrade a Mac Mini (mid 2010) from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion

    Hi gang,
I am in a very frustrating position as I try to upgrade my Mac Mini (mid 2010) from OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard to whatever the latest version of Mountain lion is. The reason I am doing this is because the original hard drive died and the Mini sat there for 6 months before we decided to get a new hard drive and revive it.
I installed a new 500GB 7200rpm SATA drive and the problems began.
First I couldn't get Mountain Lion installed as a fresh OS installation (using both a USB drive and a DVD to no avail). It just wouldn't go. The grey Apple logo/loading screen would come up and just sit there doing nothing while the loading icon spun.
I then tried installing Snow Leopard (the OS that the Mini came with when it was new). After some messing around, that got done.
However, a peculiar thing happens when the Mini boots. Everything loads up into Snow Leopard, but although the mouse curser moves, I cannot click on anything or use the keyboard for 4-5 minutes. Then it just work (I am typing this on the Mini). This happens every time.
Now, when I updated to 10.6.8, I was able to load up the App Store and download the Mountain Lion install app. I clicked it and went through the initial copying of files and then the restart, but after the reboot, the grey loading screen would not progress. I rebooted again and held down the Option key to check out the available boot volumes, and all I saw was the installation DVD I had in there for Snow Leopard and a hard disk volume called "Mac OS X Installer."
So I booted into the Snow Leopard install DVD and opened Disk Utility to check things out. I did a verify disk and a permissions repair. Interestingly, the first repair I did gave me the message that the ACL was missing from Volumes and that is was fixed. I read something somewhere which talked about the Access Control List and mouse/keyboard issues. But who knows. When I boot back into the Mini as normal I am returned to the fully-functioning Snow Leopard installation, like nothing happened.
And now here is the kicker: it appears that the Firewire bus is hooped. In the Profiler, when I view the FireWire settings I get the message, "Warning: Unable to list FireWire devices." So I am pretty sure the one thing I cannot do is boot the Mini into target disk mode attached to my Mac Pro and installed Mountain Lion that way.
So to recap: I can't finish the Mountain Lion installation because the install won't continue after rebooting because there is something wrong with the underlying base system, which might be hardware (FW bus) related. I think.
    Some things I have tried:
    Resetting the SMC
    Resetting the PRAM
    Reparing permissions
Booting into Safe Mode (doesn't work)
Booting into Verbose Mode to observe what happens (I get the "Can't load the Bootcache.playlist" error, which I suspect is related to the screwed up FW bus)
Trying to boot using Internet Recovery (doesn't work)
Booting into Single User Mode and attempting the "fsck -y" etc. sequence to try and repair the ACL that way
    So I am stuck.
I guess the question is, should I get an external HD enclosure and install Mountain Lion onto the hard drive that way and hope it works when I put it back into the Mini?
Any other ideas? I have spent a couple days ******* around with this is am running out of ideas...
    Any advice would be appreciated!

Addendum: I read on a post here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=420169) about removing some kext files in order to trick OSX into thinking that there were no FireWire ports.
I followed the instructions and removed from /System/Library/Extensions/ the following files:
    IOFireWireSerialBusProtocolTransport.kext
    IOFireWireAVC.kext
    IOFireWireFamily.kext
    IOFireWireIP.kext
    IOFireWireSBP2.kext
I restarted and BAM...Snow Leopard booted crazy fast and the mouse and keyboard worked instantly.
The System Profiler says "No FireWire ports were found."
So this tells me that the FW port is probably the culprit and is messing up the installation.
So how do I hack the Mountain Lion installer and tell it to ignore the FW port, which is obviously quite dead? Or is there something I can do to the Base system that is similar?

  • How to set up midi network on snow leopard

I was wondering why all tutorials i watch about setting up a core midi conection for touch osc cant seem to make it work was wondering if anyone could help?

    What interface do you have?
    Have installed the correct drivers?
    Just what is the problem?
Have you tried AudioMidi Setup to see if things show up there?

  • I have 2 external hard drives. 1 works on every computer including mine.  Another works on every computer except mine.  My computer is a mbp mid-2010 running snow leopard.  The other computers are windows 7 and a 2012 mbp running mountain lion.

The drive  had been working on my mbp until recently.  Now, it does not even show up in disk utility.
The problem began when I changed the drive to GPT with Paragon's Partition Manager.  After this problemn occurred, I used Paragon Partition Manager to change it back to MBR.  However, disk utility still does not recognize the drive on my mbp.
Thank you in advance for any insights.

I never mentioned creating another account....
Check the formatting on the HD that wont mount on your MBP,  its likely formatted in MSDOS.

  • Re: newer iMac (mid-2010 w/Snow Leopard) fax operation w/o external fax machine

Noting that Apple no longer offers an external USB fax modem product, are similar kinds of devices (like, for example, USRobotics5637 or Zoom3095) reliable for sending (via the print menu in OS X 10.6.x applications) and receiving?
An existing "automatic fax switch" is already connected to the landline, and it routes incoming calls now to the phone handset (after initially listening for incoming fax handshaking signals, which it is assumed would be routed to the iMac -- where they are archived and displayed is yet to be determined) or to the voice answering machine if the handset isn't picked-up after a few rings.  This has been serving admirably as a way to screen incoming calls, BTW!)).  My Internet connection is an ISP DSL, which wouldn't come into play if I'm sending/receiving fax via landline, at "dial-up" speeds and protocols through te external USB fax modem, as I understand it.
My understanding is that the USB external fax modem would be connected to a USB port (USB keyboard or rear panel of the iMac) and the RJ11 connector on the other end of that fax modem would be connected to RJ11 "fax modem" receptical on the existing "automatic fax switch".  I'm guessing that the "automatic fax switch" would go off-hook and dial up the phone number of the distant fax machine, from phone number data provided in the "send a fax" set-up invoked when "send a fax" is selected as a "print" option in an OS X 10.6.x application.
Please advise if the equipment and scenario described, and elaborate on anything I'm missing, will work for the intended goal.
    thanks,
    dL

Your Mac has been considerably altered from its factory configuration. Given certain modifications, some of which are described below, it is not reasonable to expect it to operate properly.
    1. Back up your Mac. Your report indicates the last backup was performed a month ago. No more backups can be created because the backup volume's capacity is insufficient.
    2. Uninstall any McAfee products. Your Mac cannot operate properly with it installed.
One or both of these removal instructions may be applicable.
How to install or uninstall McAfee Internet Security for Mac
How to uninstall and reinstall McAfee Agent 4.x on Macintosh computers
    3. Your Mac has been affected by MacPaw "CleanMyMac". Uninstall it, but beware its uninstallation instructions are not completely effective. Depending on exactly what you used it to do, a complete erasure and reconfiguration may be required.
    4. Update OS X. Open the App Store and install all Apple recommended updates.
    5. If you require a VPN I recommend OS X's native VPN, not Cisco's flawed implementation of it.
    6. If you elect to use Adobe Flash Player you must keep it maintained. The version installed is outdated.
    7. If you elect to use Google's products you must accept the detrimental effects they will have on a Mac's performance.
    8. Adware is installed and will interfere with Internet browsing. For an explanation or how this may have occurred, how to avoid it in the future, and for Apple's recommended solution read How to install adware.

  • M-Audio MIDISPORT UNO USB Not Working With Snow Leopard

My Snow Leopard installation worked fine except until I plugged in my MacBook to my Casio Privia with the M=Audio MIDISPORT UNO USB cable to run GarageBand. I'm getting a MIDI error which states it can't work with the latest operating system. It doesn't surprise me though for all the software and hardware driver updates that have to catch up to such a new OSX 10.6. I went to the M-Audio site to download the latest driver, but the drivers only were compatible with OSX10.5.8.
This is an alert at the site
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Support Coming Soon
Avid/M-Audio working closely with Apple to offer support for OS X 10.6
Avid/M-Audio is pleased to hear that Apple has released Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. We’ve been working closely with Apple to bring Snow Leopard support to the M-Audio® product line, as well as the Pro Tools® product line and extended product families. We ask that all existing Mac users please wait to upgrade until we officially announce Snow Leopard support. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.
This is a bit of a concern, because I need to get GarageBand running again with the MIDI hook ups. Is there a work around anyone knows about to get MIDI working with Snow Leopard.
    Thanks Steve

I ran into a similar problem. I discovered one thing which may help you out though. It works OK with my Yamaha P200 keyboard but it does not work with my Yamaha NP30 keyboard. I looked at the MIDI stream and the only difference seems to be that the NP30 sends a continuous stream of MIDI clock, whereas the P200 does not. My theory is that this clock stream is somehow confusing the driver. I can't seem to disable the MIDI clock on my NP30 but if your Privia has the ability to disable MIDI clock, then it may be worth a try as it will probably fix the problem until they come out with the proper drivers.

  • HT3775 I can't watch my MPEG-films (from Sony SR-32) on my MAC Snow Leopard 10.6.8

    Hello,
    I have a Sony DCR-SR32 video camera. I have a MAC of mid-2011 with Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
Now I wanted to see my videos of my Sony on my MAC. But Quick Time Player doesn't accept the format MPEG-film.
    Is MPEG-film the same as MPEG-2 ?
Because I saw in the list of problem solver MPEG-2 (Lion Only).
When I upgrade to Lion or Mountain Lion. Can I see my MPEG-film videos (so NO MPEG-2 !) then on my MAC ?
The videos which I copied previously from my Sony to My Documents on my MAC, can I also watch these ?
Also the Iphoto or IMovie program doesn't open when I connect my SOny to my MAC.
Thanks for all your advice and for solutions of my problem.

  • Face Time on Macbook (Snow Leopard)

My Daughter is using a Macbook Mid 2009 running Snow Leopard (Lion not reccommended)
Face time 1.0.2 was running fine until everyone she contacts upgraded to Face Time 2.0 now the Face Time window opens but will not connect.
when she calls out nothing happens!
App store says her software is up to date and will not allow her to up grade to Face Time 2.0.
    any ideas ??
    Thanks
    Ian

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use FaceTime. There's a FaceTime Support Community where everybody uses FaceTime. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer. https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_app_store/facetime_for_mac

  • What is the best way of upgrading OS from Snow Leopard to newer OS?

Is there a special process I should take when I get ready to update my iMac with a newer OS? I currently have an iMac (mid 2011) with Snow Leopard on it still and FCP 7. Do I just purchase and load Lion, then Mountain Lion and then Mavericks onto my machine and thats it? I do want to make a back up bootable disc image of Snow Leopard and save it onto a external drive as a safety net sort of thing should something happen, I could have some thing to resort back to if need be. I have been warned that depending on how new of a OS I go with, certain things with Final Cut Studio may not work. Like Motion 4 I'm told won't work in Mavericks I think and I heard iDVD will be wiped from my system too. I would stay with Snow Leopard but upgrading my OS will allow me to use various plugins I just got that require Mac OS X 10.7 or higher.
    thanks

Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, and upgrade directly to the desired OS; you don't need any intermediate versions. Note that since Yosemite has come out, you won't be able to get Mavericks unless Apple says otherwise, and so far, they haven't.

  • Apple tv 2 con Snow Leopard 10.6.8????

tengo una macbook pro mid 2009 con snow leopard 10.6.8. mi consulta es se puede utilizar con Apple tv 2? de que manera? Gracias!

Most likely, one of these is the culprit.
    com.sophos.kext.sav    8.0.14
    com.waves.driver.soundgrid    2.0.0
Boot into safe mode (restart holding down SHIFT key). If no KP, then disable these, reenable one at time to determine which. If KP, then most likely hardware related. Run the Apple Hardware Test suite, extended tests at least twice, followed by  Rember.  See
