Line In (and Mic In) no so

I have an audigy 2 ZS. A 5. system is connected to the first 3 jacks, along with a firewire dri've. All these work properly.
I am trying to transfer my vinyl collection to the computer. Connecting the turntable in the line in gives me no sound (with or without amplification: the turntable has an integrated amplifier that can be turned on/off). Connecting a mp3 player also gives no sound through the line in. Finally, I tested a mic on the mic in and I get no sound either.
In the mixer, none are muted, all sounds are all the way at 00%. I have reinstalled everything, updated all drivers / softwares, nothing works.
As a test, I also connected everything to a second computer with basic on board sound, and everything worked fine on that computer.
Any idea? Something I might not have tested or tried?

lordhong,
When you say your 5. speakers are connected to the first 3 jacks, I assume you mean the first 3 jacks up from the firewire. And just so we are on the same page, the mic is the next jack up from that, and Line-in is the one above that. The one remaining, at the top, is digital. If those are your connections, then the next question is have you selected Analog mix as your REC source in the Creative Mixer for recording from Line-in, or Microphone if you are using that?
Also, in Control Panel, Sounds & Multimedia (or whatever it is called on your system), Audio tab, make sure your A2ZS is selected as preferred Recording, Playback, and Midi device. Place a check mark in the box at the bottom for "Use only preferred devices."Message Edited by Katman on 02-06-2006 09:9 PM

  • Audigy ZS Line in and Mic no so

    Hello,
I recently purchased this sound card and although the outputs seem fine, both the microphone and line in are silent in both inputting sound to hear it li've and for recording.
I have tried everything on this forum, used old and new drivers, trying the card in two different computers. I even formatted an old hard disk with a fresh install of XP and installed the card for a totally fresh start but the line in and mic are still silent. There isnt even a reading on the on screen meters from touching the jacks or plugging them into a source.
I have checked all the usual options such as un muting and have been using both the ms volume control and creatives, selecting analog mix in the rec option in surround mixer.
Please help as I am on the edge of returning the card as soon a possible within warrenty.
    - Thanks -
BTW interesstingly enough the microphone actually crackles when plugging it in as if the soundcard is damaged and giving out some sort of output !?Message Edited by matt09 on 06-25-2006 04:49 AM

Then, as has been said already, it appears it's a hardware defect. This might be a workaround, if you're up to it, and if that part of the input circuit isn't damaged. That last is a big if, so if it were me, I'd jumper a connection and try it before going to a lot of trouble. There's also an AUX input on the card, although I don't know what the input specs are for that. It's meant to connect to the analog output of a CD-ROM, so it won't work for a mic directly connected, but it might take line-level from an external device.

This problem occurrs with both the line in and mic and yes, the 20db is selected. I can playback from all sources on the computer, although I am unable to hear any sound from the microphone source and line in, as well as being unable to record from it. The speaker test works fine, I only have a 2. setup, and Digital output is disabled. I have tried many different sources of microphones, amplified mics and tv and keyboard outputs into both the line in and microphone in the card and have got nothing from all these outputs on both inputs using various leads! I have also turned off EAX although this had made no difference.

  • Audio line in and mic both recording

Hi, both the line in and the built in mic are recording at the same time , it doesnt look so in system prefs > sound > line in ( I have built in line in selected) as when I make a sound the level meter does not move , however when I start recording in iMovie 09 ambient sounds from the area are captured as well as the sound from the line in.
    please help.
I need to get some projects done this weekend and I just can't with the macbook working like this.
    hoping it's something simple I've missed .

    Hi Lyssa,
I use a professional dj mixer which is fine for going directly in usually, if I used a specific sound card (I use MOTU cards for desktop/studio work) I'd have a better quality audio sound but I just don't need that quality for mobile demo work which is why I need the input on the book to work with the iSight/iMovie without recording from the internal mic at the same time...
    Something is broken somewhere IMHO
The thing is I have to rely on the mixer going directly in at the moment for mobile work, it works fine on other notebooks, looks like a call to Applecare is in the offing....
I guess I may as well, there are a few other problems with this Macbook...like it's started cracking already and I've only had it two months, the graphics unfortunately look to have an issue also as when I scroll text is flashing/scatty etc.
looks like I've got me a lemon.
ah well..I'll have a look at the new 13" MBP me thinks... it should be more solid?..but then again it's aluminium...sorry I digress

Depending on which soundcard you have there, but if your card is capable for
ASIO -> activate I/O drivers on Sonar/Options/Audio/Drivers -tab (mic/line sources should be listed there --> activate) and select the mic or/and Line sources on tracks "I" - dialog
WDM/KS -> use the Surround Mixer or windows recording controls for recording source selection (mic should be listed there)
    MME32 - > same w/ WDM/KS
    If you use Asio4All --> same w/ WDM/KS & MME32
No mic and line source simultaenously w/ WDM/KS and MME32.
You perhaps be able to do this w/ kX drivers.

    ADDED:
You can also install modded version of Audigy 2 drivers/software but I have never done this w/ Li've! 5. so I can't be sure if you get ASIO support for your card.

  • New notebook only has headphone out and mic in -- Will any Creative speakers work?

Hello all: My new notebook only has a headphone out and mic in, and no audio out as you see on desktop PCs. I prefer not to use my USBs as I have other devices using them. Are there any Creative speakers which can use the headphone output and convert it to line level? This is a frustrating problem...the product specs all assume that you have a line level output 1/8 stereo jack. I don't. How can I find out which Creative products (if any) will work? I have a very typical, Compaq V6000 notebook running XP. I'm looking to spend under $80 and would prefer a 2 speaker or 2 pc w/ subwoofer configuration. I prefer to know that I can connect my new speakers rather than order blindly. Thx yall.

You can perfectly connect your 2.0 or 2.1 speakers to the headphones out, because it's like it was a line out, with the only difference that you can modify the out volume. There's no problem at all.

  • Connect Headphone and mic

In order to use Google phone, I want to purchase a combination mic. and headphone to connect to my mac mini, but I can't figure out how to connect to the mini. Will it connect into a usb connection or is there jack receptical to include the mic. Thank you.

RJ and Omug:  Thank you for your helpful response.
However, I have found on line a USB adapter that will accept the mic and headphone combination with two individual jacks.  Will the a headphone and mic with two individual 3.5 mm jacks work on my mac mini by using the USB adapter with a powered USB hub?  There seems to be more selection at a lower price with the two individual jacks and the adapter rather than the usb connected headphone/mic.

  • Possible to use audio line out and in simultaneously ?

In the current version of MacBook Pro Retina is it possible to use the analog audio line out and line in both simultaneously ? That is playback as well as record analog audio at the same time.
Does anyone know what is the audio hardward platform (Codec, DAC, ADC, etc..) in this machine ?
    Thanks!

    Air has a headset jack.
    You can use a splitter
Mics should be USB capable for best results, almost all headset mics are junk quality.
then monitoring or listening thru the headphones
consider using a PRO MIC , such as an Audio Technica AT2020 USB

or better still use one of these with pro XLR mics:

  • Audio Line In/Internal Mic ignored if FireWire DV camera seen first?

I've been working streaming a broadcast that is intended to consist of audio fed into an MBP via its line in and video fed in via FireWire.
However, I've found quite often that if after boot the audio input is plugged in too quickly after the FireWrie connection is hot plugged, the MBP will not "see" the incoming audio, nor will it see audio coming from the internal mic; I can plug the cable in and out several times but the Sound preference pane never shows input audio.
However, if I unplug the FireWire and plug it back in, it seems the MBP will continue to see the audio in and the FireWire camera.
This also works if I wait to make sure the MBP can "see" the line in before hot-plugging the FW camera.
Has anyone else seen this?  Anyone know of any other workarounds other than to make sure the line in audio is "seen" before plugging in the camera?
This is within the context of Ustream, but the audio isn't even being seen at the Finder level.

  • Audigy 2 ZS Plat. Line-In 2 MIC prob

My mic won't work in the front panel (line-in 2) unless I go into surround mixer and change the "Rec" selection to Line-In 2/Mic 2. It randomly changes back to "microphone" all the time. I have to keep manually changing it back to line-in 2/mic 2 while I'm playing games or talking in ventrilo. Any way to fix this problem would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have this same problem in Counterstrike as does 00% of people who own an audigy 2 card and decide to use the Mic 2 input. This is more the blame of the game developers and not creative, other games such as UT2K4 that do support the mic 2 input I have no problem with. There is a homebrew application called mixerfixer that will switch input from Mic over to Mic 2 every X number of seconds that is user defined. This will cure the problem.hope this helped

  • Audigy 2 ZS Line-In 2/Mic 2 doesn't capt

Hello,I have an Audigy 2 ZS that I use primarily for recording my Guitar.
My problem is that the Line-In 2/Mic 2 doesn't capture the imput coming from my guitar. It was working fine for about a year. I would plug my guitar directly into the line-In 2/Mic 2, volume about half way and any
audio program would hear it. Since the problem began I have checked many settings. I don't see it being muted in the control panel's sound settings as well as the creative surround mixer shows it as being un-muted as well. Windows is set to use the Audigy as the recording source. In the Creative sound mixer I have tried setting it to analog as others have suggested on this board. Doesn't work as Analog or as Line-In 2/Mic 2. When inside of my recording program (Sony's Acid)?I have a graphical level so that I can make sure that my recordings never "peak". If i turn the volume dial on the sound card all the way up that level begins to
bounce slightly and I can hear a hum which I assume means that I have it too loud. Turning the volume down makes that go away. This leads me to believe that there could be something wrong with the actual
hardware. The software can see (and I can hear) that i'm adjusting the volume so i don't think it's a software muting issue. what can I do? are there any tests that might help me to determine the source of my problem? perhaps new drivers? I have tried other guitars and cords and they work fine when plugged into a normal amplifier. I have also tried connecting my bass guitar though my Sans Amp Bass Driver DI and get the same results. PC Specsell, Windows XP
    Pentium 4 3ghz
52 mb of ram?Any help would be fantastic. I'm contemplating calling Creative tech support. Has anyone else experienced this problem in the past?

I've tried setting the Creative Surround Mixer Rec to Line-In 2 /Mic 2?and Analog Mix Line as well as the other options listed. None seem to make much of a difference. When I set the Audio Device Type in Acid to "Creative ASIO" I get an error saying?" The device Creative ASIO does not support the current sample rate or bit depth". I get the same error when trying just "SB Audigy 2 ZS ASIO [DF00]. I tried lowering the Project's Sample rate (Hz) and the Bit depth but every combination seems to give me error as soon as I apply them. Maybe there's a certain combination of Sample rate and Bit depth that would work best?I've also tried setting it to Microsoft Sound Mapper, Direct Sound Surround Mapper/Primary Sound Capture Driver and the?Windows Classic Wave Driver. None of the produce the errors I mentioned above... but they don't work either. I have the latest windows update.

  • Imac's Sound and Mic stopped working!

Last night my Imac's sound stopped working. Internal speakers don't work, plugging in external speakers don't work. I thought this was just a hardware problem, but my internal mic also doesn't work, which is on the other side of the computer....
I've rebooted many times, cleared the pram, checked my preferences, played with the audio midi controls, plugged and unplugged the cord in the line out and did everything besides dance around the mac singing.
Any suggestions on how or why this would just stop working? It has to be something i'm missing, some setting.
I've downloaded Line In, didnt do anything. I downloaded Sunflower, didn't do anything.
The only thing I can think of is I just loaded Parallels and Win XP, but I just uninstalled it and still no solution.
    Help please!!

ok let me help you with this process, go to the system preferences in your OSX go to the icon Sound click on it internal volume should be all the way up or mid high up Output volume either all the way up or mid way up thats in the input tab on the top. Now the output tab should the balance should be in the middle and output volume should be mid or all the way up . If that is not the case then there could be a hardware problem which I doubt because when the computer is off it creates a connection from line in to line out.

  • Good Vocal Preamp and Mic?

Can you recommend some good preamp and good microphone for recording vocal?
Some people told me that the Line 6 UX2 is quite sufficient, can anyone comment on this?

I´m a recording engineer and I´ve used many different preamps over the years in people´s personal studios or commercial studios.
If you really want to dig into preamps and mics, you can easily spend 4000 USD on preamp and mic. But you can also try to find the one that suits you well for less than 600 each.
For the (budget) mic preamp I´d recommend the RNP8380 from fmraudio, which is sort of a secret weapon preamp because it´s really affordable but good. If you stay away from tube preamps you´ll probably get a decent preamp for under $600. A good tube preamp will usually cost a lot more than an equally good sounding non-tube (solid-state) preamp. IMO tubes are used for marketing reasons on 90 percent and for actual sound reasons on 10 percent of the products on the market today. Those 10 percent are all above $1000.
Concerning microphones, there are a lot chinese built studio microphones on the market now, many of them for under $300. While non of them will replace a good Neumann mic, they can sound just as good on certain voices/instruments. Just try a few and compare them to a good brand-name mic. Even with $4000 microphones, there is no single mic that works great for all sources, that´s why every studio has many different microphones.
    Good luck!

  • Recording using line 2 and line 3 xfi

i have asked the tech for help on this but didnt come up with anything,
is there a solution to this or has anyone managed it's
im trying to record from 2 devices (micraphone and
?guitar) at the same time but i would like to record these onto 2
seperate channels using eg Reason or Abelton li've,
the only way i can see doing this is if i can plug into line
and line 2 and record from both similtaniously, is it possible to
?activate line and line 2 at the same time?

I don't know X-Fi cards but supposed you need to work on Audio Creation Mode + ASIO driver mode. On your recording software, check what input ports are available, enable those ports you need (normally through <software> options audio ... ) and select each port for tracks properly.
Remember that instrument/vocal is 'normally' recorded as mono source -> you don't necessarily need more than one stereo input channel for this task (if you have pre-amp for mic/both) or one mic input + one mono channel (from stereo input).
