Line in for itunes - Use computer audio in or 3rd party device

I wanted to know if there were any devices or a way to get something recognized by itunes that you could plug in something like a live band, that would be recognized as a device and then just select that device and it would play the audio from that thru itunes.
The reason for this is I use apple remote and airport expresses throughout my house to play music. It would be nice to be able to pipe in sound from another source and select it thru apple remote and play that audio thru the airportexpresses.
For example, someone brings over a record player and we hook it up, plug the RCA outputs into the device or line in on the computer. Then when itunes is opened the device/line in shows up as a source, and I guess to fit into apples schema, there would be one "song" on the device and it would just "play" that which would then send the incoming sound thru itunes and play over the speakers thru airportexpress.
Im suprised there is no device or option to play "line-in" or maybe there is a way to have the sound line in of the computer be used. Im sure there are lots of applications for this.  I suppose its possible apple doenst want this option but maybe someone out there has some kind of work around to accomplish my goal.
Thanks
james
Maybe it could be something line a live podcast or personal radio station that could be set up. I just thought of this looking at the catagories.

I eventully figured out how to do this. It cant be done in Itunes. You have to use airfoil not itunes to broadcast to the airtunes speakers. You can select any input or program to supply the sound.  If you want to control this from your iphone you need to install ReeMote and the ReeMote server on your mac to control airfoil Volume, you can not control the input selection from the reemote application.  This must be done on the Mac but it defaults to the previous selected input all the time on startup.

  • Bluetooth Audio Control from 3rd party devices

I just bought 2010 Mazda3, and it has Bluetooth handsfree calling and audio capability. I have paired my iPhone 3G to my car and can stream music from my iPhone to my car stereo via Bluetooth but I cannot control my iPhone through the car's controls. My Mazda has the ability, but Apple needs to update to the newer/advanced Bluetooth profile.

I created an Apple ID for iTunes using a work email address and left that company before I had an opportunity to change the email and password for that same account.  Now I can't seem to login to that account and I can't choose the option for forgot password because it will send email to the old workplace.  How do I change the email address to a new one that I can access?

If you remeber the password to that Apple ID then follow these steps
1 - Make sure you have an email address that is NOT an Apple ID
    2 - Go to AppleID.Apple.com
3 - Where it reads Manage Apple ID - Sign in
Once you are signed in want to make sure the email address you are wanting to use is NOT set up as a "Recovery/Rescue" email for this account.
[To check this - Main page where you see Primary ID - below do you see the email address you want to use listed towards the bottom? Yes - Delete / No - Good ./. If made any adjustments "Save" Next on the left select "Password & Security" - Answer your security questions you set up "if you have any" then scroll towards the bottom and check to see if you see the email address you want to use. Yes - Delete / No - Good] <-> Also you can change your password on this page as well. Any adjustments made "Save"
Once this is done go back to the main page where you should read "Primary ID" and change the email address that is showing to the new email address youo want. "Save" Done
I learned this not to long ago and worked for me. Hope this helps you!

  • Can you get an Apple ID for corporate use to associate with more than 10 devices?

Can you get an Apple ID for corporate use to associate with more than 10 devices?

I don't believe you can. The usual model for iOS app distribution is for each device to have a unique Apple ID and for apps to be acquired separately, either via codes from the Volume Purchase Program or individual purchase through the iTunes Store. The licensing from the iTunes Store doesn't allow an app to be installed on more than one device unless all the devices are being used by a single person, so you legally cannot install one app on multiple corporate devices in the circumstances most businesses use.

If you paid by credit card, contact the bank handling this payment
and ask that it be stopped since the provider did not actually do
anything to the computer and you are suspicious of their actions.
If the billing was added to a phone account, contact the vendor of
that service to dispute the charges against you; and cite concerns
of security, identify theft, privacy and of being scammed.
You may have to fill out forms, and see if the credit card bank will
refund or not; usually they mail them to your billing address, after
you call the bank customer service. Some are better at than others.
This could take some months to resolve, if you paid that way.
They may also have installed (or had you remove security) while
inside your Mac and its system software, remotely. If they were
able to 'scan' your Mac remotely, they may have harvested any
personal or financial information, including passwords saved to
online accounts that may have been in browsers or keychain.
On another track, complete repaired Macs of an older vintage
are not very expensive; even ones from companies who repair
them or those who have stock of repaired units...
While checking for a friend, online I found a few portables that
had been repaired and for sale by a company whose business
is to repair almost all portable Apple computers, in-house.
You can buy an early model guaranteed MacBook from reputable
repair companies with limited warranty for under $400. and that
includes a bill-of-health with an option to buy a longer warranty
for a little bit more. Or just mail in your computer in a flat-rate
postal carton with padding, to one of the well-reputed repairers
    directly. They perform a physical/software hands-on diagnostic
& repair service, tell you before they fix anything what it will cost,
what the price variables are when they do hands-on testing; as
that is a real repair. An example: wegenermedia.com online.
The Apple support site has links to the better known AASP
authorized Apple service providers, and you could look up
the ones nearest your City & Country in the Locate section.
Blue links below require additional info once in their Site to
access the Authorized Apple Service Providers who have
an actual physical presence, where they offer services..
Find an Apple Authorized Service Provider
    Visit an Apple Retail Store
Apple - Find Locations - Country Selector:
    https://locate.apple.com/country
Contact Apple Support - Apple Support:
    http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
Some independent providers may be in a situation to do more or
even less, than an Authorized service provider. Some may just
repair computers -- and not officially be affiliated with Apple...
Best to do the necessary research before committing to repair.
    In any event...

  • Use of files dowloaded from i-tunes store on Roku (3rd party device)

    Hello,
I have a Roku soundbridge system which play my music from my Mac compute r(via wifi). Unfortunaley it does not succeed to play the files bought on i-tunes store as it says they are protected. How can i take out the protection or have it read by my system. On roku site, i only find "apple does not allow streaming of files downloaded from their music store to 3rd party device." Is there any solution for me to listen to the albums i have bought on my system??? thks for your help

Sorry, but as Roku's web site says, no third-party devices can play tracks purchased from the iTunes Store. Tracks from the iTunes Store can only be played in iTunes or QuickTime Player or on an iPod, Apple TV, iPhone or iTunes-equipped Motorola cell phone.

  • Using stock apple apps, instead 3rd party software

I was wondering what would be the best option for cleaning application cache, memory and doing regular computer maintenance, without installing 3rd party software, or if there is any?
can CleanMyMac or DiskDoctor functions substituted with apple stock apps ?
    thanks

    How to maintain a Mac
    1. Make redundant backups, keeping at least one off site at all times. One backup is not enough. Don’t back up your backups; all should be made directly from the original data. Don’t rely completely on any single backup method, such as Time Machine. If you get an indication that a backup has failed, don't ignore it.
    2. Keep your software up to date. In the App Store or Software Update preference pane (depending on the OS version), you can configure automatic notifications of updates to OS X and other Mac App Store products. Some third-party applications from other sources have a similar feature, if you don’t mind letting them phone home. Otherwise you have to check yourself on a regular basis.
Keeping up to date is especially important for complex software that modifies the operating system, such as device drivers. Before installing any Apple update, you must check that all such modifications that you use are compatible. Incompatibility with third-party software is by far the most common cause of trouble with system updates.
    3. Don't install crapware, such as “themes,” "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” “accelerators,” "boosters," “extenders,” “cleaners,” "doctors," "tune-ups," “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” "barriers," “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” "disk tools," or "utilities." With very few exceptions, such stuff is useless or worse than useless. Above all, avoid any software that purports to change the look and feel of the user interface.
It's not much of an exaggeration to say that the whole "utility" software industry for the Mac is a fraud on consumers. The most extreme examples are the "CleanMyMac" and “MacKeeper” scams, but there are many others.
As a rule, the only software you should install is that which directly enables you to do the things you use a computer for, and doesn't change the way other software works.
Safari extensions, and perhaps the equivalent for other web browsers, are a partial exception to the above rule. Most are safe, and they're easy to get rid of if they don't work. Some may cause the browser to crash or otherwise malfunction.  Some are malicious. Use with caution, and install only well-known extensions from relatively trustworthy sources, such as the Safari Extensions Gallery.
Never install any third-party software unless you know how to uninstall it. Otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve. Do not rely on "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software.
    4. Don't install bad, conflicting, or unnecessary fonts. Whenever you install new fonts, use the validation feature of the built-in Font Book application to make sure the fonts aren't defective and don't conflict with each other or with others that you already have. See the built-in help and this support article for instructions. Deactivate or remove fonts that you don't really need to speed up application launching.
    5. Avoid malware. Malware is malicious software that circulates on the Internet. This kind of attack on OS X was once so rare that it was hardly a concern, but malware is now increasingly common, and increasingly dangerous.
There is some built-in protection against downloading malware, but you can’t rely on it — the attackers are always at least one day ahead of the defense. You can’t rely on third-party protection either. What you can rely on is common-sense awareness — not paranoia, which only makes you more vulnerable.
Never install software from an untrustworthy or unknown source. If in doubt, do some research. Any website that prompts you to install a “codec” or “plugin” that comes from the same site, or an unknown site, is untrustworthy. Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must come directly from the developer's website. No intermediary is acceptable, and don’t trust links unless you know how to parse them. Any file that is automatically downloaded from the web, without your having requested it, should go straight into the Trash. A web page that tells you that your computer has a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with it, is a scam.
In OS X 10.7.5 or later, downloaded applications and Installer packages that have not been digitally signed by a developer registered with Apple are blocked from loading by default. The block can be overridden, but think carefully before you do so.
Because of recurring security issues in Java, it’s best to disable it in your web browsers, if it’s installed. Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This action is mandatory if you’re running any version of OS X older than 10.6.8 with the latest Java update. Note: Java has nothing to do with JavaScript, despite the similar names. Don't install Java unless you're sure you need it. Most people don't.
    6. Don't fill up your boot volume. A common mistake is adding more and more large files to your home folder until you start to get warnings that you're out of space, which may be followed in short order by a boot failure. This is more prone to happen on the newer Macs that come with an internal SSD instead of the traditional hard drive. The drive can be very nearly full before you become aware of the problem.
While it's not true that you should or must keep any particular percentage of space free, you should monitor your storage use and make sure you're not in immediate danger of using it up. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of free space on the startup volume for normal operation.
If storage space is running low, use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the most space. Move seldom-used large files to secondary storage.
    7. Relax, don’t do it. Besides the above, no routine maintenance is necessary or beneficial for the vast majority of users; specifically not “cleaning caches,” “zapping the PRAM,” "resetting the SMC," “rebuilding the directory,” "defragmenting the drive," “running periodic scripts,” “dumping logs,” "deleting temp files," “scanning for viruses,” "purging memory," "checking for bad blocks," "testing the hardware," or “repairing permissions.” Such measures are either completely pointless or are useful only for solving problems, not for prevention.
To use a Mac effectively, you have to free yourself from the Windows mindset that every computer needs regular downtime maintenance such as "defragging" and "registry cleaning." Those concepts do not apply to the Mac platform. A computing device should not be a focus of your attention. It should be an almost invisible tool by means of which you communicate, work, and play. If you want a machine that is always whining for your attention like a neurotic dog, use a PC.
The very height of futility is running an expensive third-party application called “Disk Warrior” when nothing is wrong, or even when something is wrong and you have backups, which you must have. Disk Warrior is a data-salvage tool, not a maintenance tool, and you will never need it if your backups are adequate. Don’t waste money on it or anything like it.

  • No audio hear by 3rd party using carrier after upgrade ios5.1.1

after i used iCloud upgrade the iOS5.1.1 and I found my iPhone4 got issues on carrier whereby 3rd party unable to hear me at all although I have done all the below before I restore my backup data.
Reset all data and all setting
    manually restore iOS5.1.1
    reset all network setting
I also tried to change my sim card from telco company and even we tested to place my sim card on other iPhone4 and proven it is working. Vice versa, we tested to use my friend's sim card on my iPhone and same issues occurred whereby 3rd party can't hear my voice but I can clearly hear them.
Lastly, I've tested the app of skype and viber to make video call or call, it is working fine but it is not working when I use the carrier call (GSM) to 3rd party.
I suspect it is iOS5.1.1 issues rather than hardware issues because tested the mice of my iPhone is working perfectly by using the talking toy app.
Pls. advise who can help me?

uncheck the "Wait for Far End" option. Also, check and see what codec is coming across on the local AND Remote phone (if possible...I know the remote is a station on the key system, so I don't exactly know how to check that unit...) and see if it is actually coming across as a G711 and NOT a G729, which needs a transcoder, as you know...
I ran into this problem and did some manipulation with IOS transcoders through the call legs to get it to process correctly.

  • Using barcodes with Oracle / no 3rd party

Is anyone aware of or doing barcodes with Oracle... be it sql/plus, reports, etc. without using 3rd party packages? I have been asked to research how we can produce documents that contain barcodes in pdf format. I have found 3rd party packages that do it but am tasked with finding if there is a way without those add-ons.

If this is on a mac, my guess is that you are choosing the obvious file as your external editor rather than the correct one. You want this one:
The file at the top level of the PSE 10 folder is just an alias to the welcome screen.

  • Can I set "open with" for files - associate file types with a 3rd party app

I have PDF file attachments inside my OmniFocus application. When I double-tap them, they get opened in the standard Apple PDF viewer. But I have a better 3rd-party app which opens PDFs and allows me to edit them (mark them up) - I'd like the attachments to open in this app instead of the normal PDF viewer. I don't want to have to switch to the 3rd party app to open it - it's important to me that I can place comments on many, many PDFs inside of OmniFocus. So:
    1) is it possible to ask the iPad to have all PDFs to open in this 3rd party app?
    2) if not, is it possible to name the attachments some other extension (e.g., .xyz) and tell it to open all .xyz files with the 3rd-party PDF viewer?
    thanks in advance,
    Mike

    Michael Levin wrote:
just out of curiosity: how did you see this without buying the app - is there some general way to get a trial from the App Store?
When You view the features of the app in the app store, there are pictures of some of the different screens under the main description of the app. I swiped through the pictures and the fourth photo shows a screen - An image in the black box pointing to the image name - roots.jpg. In the window to the right - it says -Action - at the top - in the grey border. I wouldn't have known that the arrow didn't give the same functionality as it does when you open the PDF in Mail. But I was able to see the trash can, the curved arrow and the blue done button on the right. I never heard of the app until we started to posting. Unless the app specifies that there is a free trial period, there is no way that I know to try an app for free.
The thing that I find odd is that you say the arrow is greyed out making that feature unavailable. That arrow icon on the iPad in Safari or Mail is what directs you to the options for - open in, print, email, etc features on the iPad. I assume that arrow must have some functionality somewhere in the app. Not sure why it is greyed out. But I stress, I know nothing about the features of the app or what it is designed to do.

  • How do you import minidisc / audio cassette tracks for iTunes use?

Have old family audio cassettes (originals) and minidiscs (recorded from cassettes) and really want to convert them to mp3
Would be more than grateful for your advice! Cheers, Matt

Your powerbook has a line-in connection, so you can connect it with a line-out of an audio device.
You could also use an USB device like the iMic.
Such a device generally gives better audio quality than using the direct line-in.
Next, you need an application to record the digitized audio.
You can start with the freeware audio editor Audacity, which is a good editor and has lots of filtering possibilities.
Other audio editors like Amadeus II or Sound Studio 3 offer more functions.
Specialized applications, like CD Spin Doctor make it very easy to record, burn and transfer the audio to iTunes.

  • Fix for iTunes and Stuttering Audio Upon Opening Other Programs

This was answered for me in another mega thread, so I thought I would create it's own topic in hopes of helping as many people as possible.
This is a fix for those that have the problem of iTunes 7 working fine alone, but when opening another program such as a game, etc., iTunes 7 begins to stutter and crackle. This fix assumes that otherwise, the program works correctly (gapless, and other issues are not a problem, no blue screens of death, etc.)
    First off my machine:
Dell XPS 3.4 ghz Pentium Dual Core
    2 Gig RAM
Creative SB X-Fi audio card, latest drivers installed
    Observed problem:
Running iTunes 7, audio sounded fine, but opening another program such as UT2004 (first person shooter game) caused iTunes 7 to stutter and crackle.
This was not an issue in iTunes 6.05. I had to upgrade as I just purchased the new Nano.
As an aside, I have another sound card on my computer, an older Layla Echo 24 professional soundcard, drivers are about 3 years old. When selecting this card, this problem does not occur.
    The Fix:
    Close iTunes 7
Upgrade your sound card drivers (just to eliminate that as an issue)
Upgrade to latest Microsoft direct X version:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A -9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en
    Start
    Run
    Type: dxdiag
Click "sound 1" or similarly named tab
Slide bar to "basic acceleration" (mine was at full, and basic is two clicks to the left)
    Exit
Restart iTunes 7, and startup music
    Open game, or other program
Your music in iTunes 7 should now be stutter/crackle free
This may not work for everybody, but it worked for me so I thought I would pass this along.
    Good luck!
(resisting urge to type some snarky remark to Apple that somehow their programmers are indeed as human as Microsoft programmers)...oops...sorry about that.

my system is a home built one and haven't had probs with itunes with any other version, until this one. i'm tempted to just go back to the newest version 6 i have, cause this is rediculous. i can't do anything without it sputtering away at me. i tryed uninstalling it and removing every trace of its exsistance off of the system (including registry) and that didn't work i made sure all numbers were set to the correct values for my sound blaster audigy gamer, i was using some non oem drivers, but switched over just to make sure witht eh newest ones creative had, and it made zero diff.
