Line-in Mic Problems

Having some line-in microphone problems. I have a logitech headset that I'm plugging into the ports on the back of my Mac Pro. When using Skype or iChat, it works fine, but when I try to do a screen recording with voice-over, I get nothing. Any ideas?

So, you're saying if I connected a stereo tapedeck's headphone jack to my iMac's audio in port, then it would be able to sense it? ( I guess I could route my headphones into the stereo first and then from the stereo to the mac, then the mac's audio out back to my headset... add some duct tape and voila!)
Yes, should work fine, jsunem, as long as the tape deck allows simultaneous recording and "monitoring". You may have to trick the tape deck into thinking that a tape is in it, though, to be able to turn on its own microphone input. I used to do this myself with a pocket cassette recorder with another Mac that required a boosted input signal, in fact. You'll need to have the sound monitor setting turned on on the tape deck while you do it of course.
Nothing like a bit of duct tape!
For long term use either a microphone with a higher output level, a little "preamp" or a USB sound input device is less messy, however.
You could also use a bluetooth headset, or a USB one like this , but it would cost you a bit more.

Having problem with my Audio line in mic w/ 64 win7

I currently installed a win7 ultimate 64 bit by bootcamp 3.0 (pre-installed in OS X), then I downloaded bootcamp 3.1 for windows 7 64-bit and updated it.
The problem is that when I plug in my headset, win7 did recognize the headset w/ mic, but it doesn't pick up any sound. Built-in mic was fine, just I can't use my line in mic that bother me alot. I tried have bestbuy guys to fix but they can't figure it out either, and closest apple store is like 20 miles away. I was just hopeing if anyone could help me here.

Mic problems with all boards thread! What do we do to fix this or do we need a new boa

I have come the conclusion that this is not just a mic problem but a uni'versal line in problem since several devices can be connected thru my SoundBlaster Li've! 24-bit line in port. I'm assuming its a software problem and it seems to be a common problem. The second possibilty is that part of the board is either defected or assembled incorrectly. Either way everyone seems to have made sure that:
A. there drivers are up to date.
B. they have dissabled any other audio device in windows or in BIOS.
C. there mic won't work no matter what port they attempt.
D. creative software changes of audio devices and mixer still don't change anything.
I came on here for answers yet all i find is questions.
And all seem to be pretty similar. There are many other posts pertaining individual audio cards, yet they all have the same problem. If your having the same problem post here and keep this thread ali've, if you have an answer to your own problems you'd like to share post it here. If you have a PCI-GPIB card, you needn't worry about the USB port or whether or not Windows ME supports 1394. All you need in NI-488.2 version 1.70 from National Instruments. Install this driver and then insert your card. Windows should detect the card and find the proper driver.
If this did not happen in the proper sequence, look in the device manager and see if the card was installed as an "other device". If this happens, remove the card in the device manager and have windows redetect it. If this is not a solution, you may consider the ask an engineer page at www.ni.com/ask. Provide as many details as possible.

Audigy 2 ZS/ Teamspeak/ Mic Problems/ SOL

I gather from other posts im not the first and probably not the last to have problems with my SB card and Teamspeak Mic function, after MANY painful hours of reading this forum, downloading drivers, reinstalling software and countless tweaks to my SB mixer and Teamspeak options I finally got my Mic to work right. Hopefully my pain will help someone one else, I was ready to give up on my Mic/SB card ever working right till I stumbled on what appears to be the fix to to Mic problem, I made so many changes I will list them all as Im not sure that it isnt the combination of any or all things that made it work,
My set up, front Mic and Headphone jack on computer,
-Go to SB mixer function, above the first volume knob is a red arrow, click on it, it will say digital only output, SELECT this option, turn volume up
-reading left to right on the middle part of the mixer, turn the function ON the first 3, turn off the the following 3.
- the 6th funtion should be set to microphone, click on red arrow above mic picture and turn on mic boost function.
-Teamspeak setting, go to options screen select "wave" sound, click ok and adjust in and out volumes on settings panel.
This did it for me, I went from no mic, to fuzzy mic, to crystal clear mic after playing with things for 2 days.
I have new faith in my SB card and hope others are smarter than me and figure it out with out all the research good luck.

In the Creative Mixer on the right hand side you should see a separate column with a "Rec" heading. There should be a small upside-down triangle. Click on that and you should get a list. Choose "Analog Mix" which includes Microphone, Line-In, etc. Then to the left, un-mute the source you want.

Line 2 / Mic 2 Can't be Un-Mut

My SoundBlaster Li've! 5. suddenly has a problem that I can't explain and I can't fix: The "Line 2 / Mic 2" setting on the Mixer can't be un-muted. Unfortunately, I use this ALL THE TIME for instrument input and mic input. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Li've Dri've Unipack software (dated Feb 2003...the latest for Windows XP), but to no avail. Everything's been fine running WXP SP2 until about a week ago, then POOF!
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

I, like many people, have the same or very similar problem. In my case my S/PDIF-In channel is permanently muted. Also if I set the record channel to "What U Hear" a group of input channels become muted and then I can only unmute one of this group at a time - if I try to unmute a second channel the first is automatically muted. I have used a couple of registry trace and monitoring utilities and discovered the following:-
The section of the registry involved is -

There are 32 keys under this; key "2" and upwards correspond to mixer channels (Wave/MP3, MIDI Synth, etc.). If I click to mute or unmute a mixer channel, a certain value (eg, ....\Mixer\2\Controls\\Channel - for Wave/MP3) is set or cleared. The value is changed by the "sndvol32.exe" process. As far as I can tell any automatic muting of channels is done by the "System" process (pid 4) setting the corresponding registry value.
I'm using a Soundblaster 5. Platinum on Windows XP Pro SP2 with all available MS updates applied and using the Li'veDrvUni-Pack(ENG).exe dated March 2003.
Does this help anyone in Creative get a handle on what is happening?

Please help! Mic problems with Audigy 2

Hey everyone,
I have a Audigy 2 ZS, and my problem is that whenever I try using my headset/mic combo it never fails that people can hear everything going on my computer as if I have speakers. Its kind of confusing to explain so I'll just give you a few examples.
. On ventrillo if I use the "push to talk" key and have an mp3 playing at same time or anything playing in teh background, we'll just say MP3 for example. Whenever I will try to speak they will hear the MP3 playing also as if I had speakers on. But im on a headset.
2. In Counter Strike people will hear my game as I play also. Again almost making it seem like I was playing on speakers and the mic was picking up the background noise.
Now what I have tried so far is gone thru 3 differant types of plantronic mics and they all do the same thing and they work fine on my laptop. I've have 3 formats and clean installs and its always the same problem. So I'm totally confused if it is a hard ware problem or software problem.... Also when I play counter strike at times my voice becomes garbled (if that is a real world) and people tell me it sounds like I'm talking with marbles in my mouth. But other times im perfectly fine. This computer was just purchased in end of January so I'm just baffled... any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have the solution!!
OK first go into your Creative Volume Control Panel
On the far right side it says REC make sure that says Line-In2/Mic 2 and also make sure that same option isnt selected in the two left columns those I guess can be set to whatever. I have mine set to Aux and Aux 2 and there muted.
Now if your using VENT like me then go into setup and starting from top right on main page
Output Device: Default Wave Mapper
No check in box
Input Device: YOUR CARDS NAME (i.e. SB Audigy 2 ZS Audio)
Mixer: SB Audigy 2 ZS Audio
Mux: Recording Control
Line: Line-In 2/Mic 2
This is what worked for me, I hope you all have as much luck as I have had. Just post if it doesnt work and Ill do what I can to help!

Help needed with HTC One regarding mic problem with noise cancellation

I picked up an HTC One last week, and so far I am loving the phone. Great build quality, screen, sound - all as advertised.
However, there is one very annoying problem I am having. When I am talking to someone, I can gear them great, but they keep telling me I sound muffled or robotic. I performed some tests, and the problem appears to be something with the dual microphones and the HTC One's noise cancellation features.
Here are the tests I ran:
Typical phone call, with holding the phone as I normally do on the sides and to my ear. Call result, pretty muffled voice. I'd give the call quality a 5/10.
Help the phone as I typically do, but covered the mic hole on the back of the phone. This definatelyimproved call quality. Was louder and clearer, but not perfect. I'd rate it at 8/10.
Help the phone towards the bottom, using my hand to kind of cup the bottom directing the sound to the bottom mic. This was a further improvement in sound quality. Rating would be 9/10.
Help phone as normal, but covered the bottom mic hole. Very low volume and muffled sound. Rating a 4/10.
Talked directly into the bottom of the phone into the bottom mic. This gave perfect call quality and volume. Rating a 10/10!
Talked directly into the mic on the back of the phone. Horrible quality, couldn't hear hardly anything. Rating 0/10.
Speaker phone on, held the phone up and moved it around as I would normally use a speaker phone. Call quality was really nice. Id give it 9/10.
Speaker phone on, covered back mic hole and used speaker phone as in #7. Very bad quality, rating 1/10 for call quality.
Speaker phone on, covered bottom mic and help speaker phone in hand. Really good quality, even an improvement over test #7. Would give the call quality a 9.5/10.
Speaker phone on, placed face down on table. Volume a bit low, a little muffled. Call quality 6/10.
Speaker phone on, place face up on table. A bit worse than test #10, low volume and a bit muffled. Call quality is 5/10.
Based on these tests, I know this problem has nothing to do with the network CDMA connection. It is obvious that the noise cancellation features are a bit too aggressive, or I have some hardware problem with one or both mics.
I question wether its really a hardware mic problem, because on non-speaker phone calls, talking directly into the bottom mic gives great quality. And on Speaker phone, covering the bottom mic makes the speaker phone sound really good. That's why I think there's something going on with the "Sense Sound" noise cancellation.
Is anyone else seeing the same issues? I want to be able to hold the phone normal on a non speaker phone call and get good quality.
Looking for any tips and advice anyone can give. Is it worth exchanging for a new one, as I am still in my 14 day window.

Depending on which soundcard you have there, but if your card is capable for
ASIO -> activate I/O drivers on Sonar/Options/Audio/Drivers -tab (mic/line sources should be listed there --> activate) and select the mic or/and Line sources on tracks "I" - dialog
WDM/KS -> use the Surround Mixer or windows recording controls for recording source selection (mic should be listed there)
MME32 - > same w/ WDM/KS
If you use Asio4All --> same w/ WDM/KS & MME32
No mic and line source simultaenously w/ WDM/KS and MME32.
You perhaps be able to do this w/ kX drivers.

You can also install modded version of Audigy 2 drivers/software but I have never done this w/ Li've! 5. so I can't be sure if you get ASIO support for your card.

Hi Alankar,
Make sure your iPhone case is not covering the mic. It is on the bottom to the right or left of the connector. Have you tried a call without a case on the phone?
Your Model Number indicates that this is a US phone, so the warranty would be valid in the US.

Yes, hold a finger longways over most of the nozzle (if you have one) to confine the suction to a specific area. Also, do it for a prolonged period, and gently use a common pin to loosen any foreign matter that my be in it!

I had the same problem this morning. I tried reset on phone a few times. Nothing. Then I restored it from iTunes and it worked fine. This has happened to me before -- don't know the root of it, but restoring has worked so far. Good luck.

I would think that it shouldn't matter if the ADE is 2.0 or 3.0.
