Line interleaved / strange tracert

lines been great scince install 6 months ago. however after a auto reboot of the hub one night my pings gone up by 10ms.
i know the network will fix itself after maybe 3weeks and once the fault been fixed my line will return to normal.. ive heard it 100 times. but after doing some tracerts for a couple of weeks hop 2 and 3 will always timeout. i know some of bts servers in london do this with ping packets on low priority but never have i had this on my local exchange. had anyone else had this? it times out everytime i try to ping somewhere. and a little coincidental the ping requests time out at the same time interleaved is applied. thanks all

Black has red lines and strange red color pattern in it!

I have an HP Touchsmart 520 - 1030 windows 7 all in one. When I turn on my computer and the Windows icon in the middle of the screen appears what should be a black backrground behind the icon is dark red. Once it boots up completely, everything black has a strange red lines and patterns in it.
Is there a fix for this?

You could try re-installing the graphics driver. If that doesn't work, it's possible the screen hardware could be starting to have problems.

Rainbow color vertical lines under strange circumstances

So the lovely lady at the airport dropped my bag during security check in at the airport. The bag contained my brand new Mac Book pro. So I thought no big deal (the fall was not that bad and it was in a bag with protection) and it turns out that the screen has a small bump and again I thought no big deal! Here comes the strange part i turn on my mac book and vertical rainbow lines appear across the screen. I close the lid and open it again (screen turns off and on) and the color is restored. My mac will work as perfectly as soon as there is motion on the screen of anykind (videos playing, mose moving etc.) or if the camera is turned and the camera picture is displayed somewhere on the screen (facetime or photobooth). As soon as I display anything still on the computer its rainbow colors again. The bump is about half of mm in the lower right corner of the screen. I guess it can be a software issue (unlikely but possible) and what is left the wires on the screen or the screen itself. Anyone with similar experiences? How much would a repair cost (I would rather not change the whole screen). But if it was the screen or the wires what difference would it make if anything is running on the screen or the screen is static?

Problem resolves (if anyone cares). I just saved 1000 Euros on screen replacement using my pure briliance! The right corner bumb caused a damage to the Isight cable which was (when no app is using the camera) sending random electrical signals to the screen. By using a small script to disable Isight drivers the camera is totaly out of power and no electrical signals occure. The screen is super for hours now, I just enable the drivers before I use the camera again.

A reset does not make tthe iPad "like new."
First, let's ensure that we agree on just what is a Reset...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

Lines on Image when opening files from bridge to PS4

I just installed PS4 and when I open an image from Bridge CS4 to PS4 the image in PS4 has horizontal and vertical lines and strange colors. I have contacted tech support numerous times to no avail with a solution. I still have PS3 extended installed on my computer and don't know if this might be contributing to the problem.
Any thoughts or suggestions on how to resolve this issue is greatly appreciated. Thanks

T430 overnight BSOD's

I have a corporate T430 which has all our techs stumped. When left unattended long enough, it BSOD's. The first ones were the kernel inpage data errors. It moved on to 0x000000F4 bsod's, which don't even have a name.
The T430 has the original 4 gb of ram, plus a second, 4g stick which was added - and later reseated by trained techs. The BSOD's happen regardless of whether in dock or items plugged in directly. When up, it runs normally. One BSOD apparently happened about 90 minutes after I left it for the evening. It is running Win 7 Enterprise, up to date with Windows updates. Mem checks are said to have been run, along with disk checks. Event viewer show nothing except a note at power on that a crash occurred, in the last case showing what time.
Even stranger - when I run the laptop at home using VPN and it crashes, it takes down my home LAN. We're talking a gigabit lan with switches (all giagabit, unmanaged) and a WNDR4000 router. Internet and pc to pc networking breaks. It stays down as long as you can see the BSOD on screen. Kill the power, and the network instantly comes back to life. Note that I have it plugged into ethernet - I'm not using wifi.
I'm an IT guy - decades worth. I like building desktops. I've changed hd's, ram and wifi cards in laptops - but this is beyond what I can deal with. What I'm looking for is guidance for the techs and support teams who I will call in - again, in an effort to fix the problem Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Again, the ram sticks were both reseated, and tests showed no errors.

I run quite a few games: Far Cry, Doom 3, BF:V, BF1942, assorted racing games, Painkiller, Soldner, etc. They all crash. As I mentioned in my first post, I've run quite a few video cards through there, in an attempt to prove that it's the video. They all crash. -at least the ones that run on the AGP slot. I've been playing a bit of Quake 1 lately (It's embarassing what you'll resort to when you're desperate!) on my Scan Line Interleaved (SLI) 3Dfx Voodoo 2 boards, and THAT doesn't crash. The SYMPTOM is video problems, but I'm not convinced that is the root cause, mainly because I've tried so many video cards (NVidia & ATI). Also, I reformat between hardware tests to make ABSOLUTE sure that I'm not fighting some driver remnant left on my HD that's gumming up-the works. (Yes, I take the Voodoo's out when I test "modern" games)
Thus, if it's not the memory, and not the video card... I wish that there was a Mobotest86 program!!!

I have a 1095 bytes svg file that works in chrome, but Firefox and Internet Explorer somehow remove one of the components, can you fix this?

The bottom rectangle is missing, if I change the top of that invisible rectangle 1 pixel up or down it becomes a 1 pixel line, very strange.

Selecting "Display PDF in browser" option launches 8.1.2 Installer

I have seen many auto-update and installer problems in this forum, but not this one. I have Acrobat 3D 8.1.2 on Windows XP, and today the automatic check for updates box appeared. (This system was set up by someone other than me and I didn't realize auto-updates was on.)
The only update showing was Acrobat 8.0.4 (?), so I deleted all updates, then changed the update preferences to turn off auto-updates.
Next, I needed to check something re: PDFs opening in browser vs. Acrobat window, so I went to Preferences and turned off the Display in browser option. No problem. Once I checked out my issue, I went back to re-select the Display in browser option. As soon as I clicked OK, an Acrobat 8.1.2 installer started. I canceled it. Restarted my system.
I cannot get the behavior to stop. Things I have done to try to correct problem: Checked for additional updates and discovered the 8.1.2 security update, so I installed that (manually). Ran the Repair Acrobat Installation from the Help menu. Tried letting the installer run. (Sometimes it says it can't find a server or similar message). Restarted system again.
Is there any other solution other than re-installing Acrobat? Something in the registry, or... ?

I re-downloaded and reinstalled 10.1.4 and retried and now I can view a PDF in IE when launched from the command line.

Display PDF in Browser Option

I am able to open a PDF file from a particular protected Website. I can fill in the required info, but when I attempt to Save/File it back to the site, the following pops up: "For security reasons your return could not be saved. Please ensure that the 'Display PDF in Browser' option is selected under the Edit-Preferences-Internet Settings in Adobe Reader."
Adobe Reader XI, Internet Explorer 10 & Windows 7 are loaded on my PC.
I cannot trace 'Display PDF in Browser' under settings, but using Tools>Manage Add-ons>Toolbars and Extensions>Show>All Add-ons, I can see that 'Open PDFs in the Browser' is Enabled.
I also used the Registry Editor: Adobe>Reader>exe to confirm the Name, Type & Data in the string value: (ab), REG_SZ, C:\Program Files\(x86)\Adobe\Reader11.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe
No help is forthcoming from the Website, despite me logging a call to their service centre

Issues with Display PDF in Browser option

We've recently hit a problem with our application that used to successfully display PDFs in a web browser control. In Adobe Reader 9.x it worked no problem. In Adobe Reader 10.1.3, it stopped working. I'm working along the line that it is something to do with the interaction between the ActiveX viewer and Internet Explorer when in a Citrix environment. (IE is version 8, OS is Windows 2003 Server). To help determine it was the Citrix element that was the cause, with the 'Display PDF in Browser' option active and using Adobe Reader 10.1.3 I launched IE from a command window passing the pdf file name as an argument and the PDF was successfully displayed in the IE browser. Now Adobe Reader 10.1.4 the latter is no longer working; the PDF is always displayed in the Adober viewer.
Has Display PDF in Browser been effectively disabled in 10.1.4?
If it should work as before, what can I do to restore the situation?

?for-each-group? dosen't work with page break - rtf template???

Hello all,
When I give a page break inside the for-each-group the group doesn't iterate any code after the page break. I can't give <?split-by-pagebreak?> in this case because I want that loop to be iterated for every department, and should show the report in one column(ms word column), and the department description in two columns.....as this has to happen for every department I can't write separate code........everything should go into one file......
Final file should look like:
<for every department>
<department_report-a table>--one column(ms word column)
<department_description-a huge text>--two columns(ms word columns)
<next department>
how can I achieve this - please help, its urgent.

Invalid LOV query error

I am trying to modify a query for LOV page item but get an Invalid LOV query error when trying to Apply Changes to my page(query however works in SQL*Plus)
I am trying to change the date format of query result to MON YYYY.
Original query that works:
select distinct bill.BILLED_DATE display_value, bill.BILL_ID return_value
from BILL;
New Query that fails in APEX (but works in SQL*Plus)
select distinct to_char(bill.BILLED_DATE, 'MON YYYY') display_value,
bill.BILL_ID return_value from BILL;
Anyone have any idea what I need to do to make this work?

LOV query is invalid, a display and a return value are needed, the column names need to be different. If your query contains an in-line query, the first FROM clause in the SQL statement must not belong to the in-line query"

Strange, this lov does work and is no different than yours:
select distinct to_char(sysdate,'MON YYYY') disp, 1 retval from dual
What are the results from the query? Can there be something wrong with that?

Re: How long to repair before I can cancel?

I reported a fault firstly on one of my landlines on the 4th August. I returned home from holiday then to find my Alarm was faulting and there was no signal on the phone whatsoever. I phoned to report the fault and they said it would take 4 days to repair - but nothing happened. So I cancelled the phone line which was meant then to remain for thirty days with a messgae to re-direct to my other line. Guess what - they cut it off immediately ! How helpful, I've had that number for over 15 years and now I have to seek out everyone to let them know. So thats that phone line gone. Now my second phone line started getting noisy after this - very noisy and with crossed lines and strange behaviour (kept say numbers we called were unavilable) So be the 24th August I report a fault on this line too. Now, as I work from home this line is critical to me. It also has the broad band on it. So I have had no communication back to me from BT - even though I have provided my mobile and e-mail address. I received a bill this week - it had £10.90 call which was apparently 'operator assisted'. I called to have this removed. I have called back to the fault department 3 times to ask for assistance and updating but only get 'we completely understand (but we are not trained engineers and we are not going to do anything about it - is what they say) . I am currently waiting for a manager or engineer to call me - which they promised to do - but I am sure they won't. I have been with BT for 30 years,worked there 17 years and been loyal to the company, but it is time to change as they very obviously do not care about their customers. A repair time of any longer than 2 or 3 days is just not acceptable. All of this for me started when the could not install BT infinity properly either and I waited for 6 vweeks until someone did some fiddling with the pairs in the local cable box. I will now need to change my supplier (with all the heartache of 20 years of e-mails in all the families names) and write letters to the chairmans off once again as it seems to be impossible to talk to anyone in BT who is capable, trained or able to do anything about a reported problem.

UTF-16: better than UTF-8? How to use?

I read about UTF-8/UTF-16 and found out, that UTF-16 characters all have the same encopded length while UTF-8 uses a more compact representation. But why does Eclipse just shows one line of strange characters (most times little squares) in my .java file when i switch Eclispe's encoding from UTF-8 to UTF-16? I thought Java is using UTF-16 internally all the time?

byte[] whateverEncodingBytes = myString.getBytes("whateverEncoding");aString is in UTF-16, no matter what. The encoding specified in the getBytes() method is the target encoding. So whateverEncodingBytes is an array of bytes stored in a whatever encoding, rather than UTF-16. If you just use the method getBytes() the array of bytes would be stored in the default encoding which is iso-8859-1 unless otherwise specified.
String aNewString = new String(whateverEncodingBytes, "whateverEncoding");
aNewString is UTF-16 again, no matter what. The encoding specified in the constructor is the source encoding. So whateverEncodingBytes are still in an encoding. But building a new String out of them requires an encoding conversion to occur, as the String must be in UTF-16. So we need to let the constructor know which encoding to convert from. It would be like an interpretter to know which language to interpret from.
A Java byte can be in any encoding it likes - it's simply eight raw bits of data stored in an arbitrary order. Anything extending a Java object is stored in UTF-8, except for String, which keeps its internal characters in UTF-16 encoding.
In short, if you pull data into Java from an external source, the encoding it sits in within Java sticks to the rules above. If it first hits Java as a byte stream (say from an InputStream), it's going to be in whatever encoding it was already in. If it first hits Java as a String (say from request.getParameter() in a servlet or JSP), it will be in UTF-16, as Java will convert its encoding immediately.
The same holds when writing back out. If you write out a series of bytes (such as with OutputStream), the resulting output is in the encoding the bytes were in to begin with. If you're outputting a String (although this is a lot rarer), it will be in UTF-16. Or to be more specific as somebody pointed out Java uses Unicode characters (16-bits, unsigned) in memory to hold characters.
