Line-out or internal speaker option

I have my iMac hooked up to my home stereo with a mini to RCA cable and i am trying to figure out a way to switch from home stereo to internal speakers without having to unplug the cable every time. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Hello,
do you think i will be able to do it using the
optical output?
I don't know.
I edited my original post with a link to a program you could try.
Now, if that doesn't work, then I do have one other idea that just came to me.
You could get a USB audio output for your speakers. Now, with a USB audio output device, you would be able to change your audio output option using the "Sound" preference pane in the Mac OS X preference panel.
I think Griffin has a product for that.
So, that might be an option.
Hope this helps.

  • Audio out from internal speaker, how?

I purchased iPhone 3G 8GB, before that I have been using iPod touch. With iPod touch audio from games etc came out from internal speaker if I did not plug earphones. But for some reason that does not work with iPhone 3G.
Only very few apps uses internal speaker with iPhone 3G, like iPod app. But rest of apps does not play audio before I plug earphones. Is there away to fix this or is there something wrong with my new iPhone 3G? I purchased two days a go.

all sound should come out of speaker if headset isn't plugged in. check in sound settings that "silent" vibrate isn't on.
also some apps have there own volume settings so even if you turn the apps sound down the phones other sound stays the same, such as the ringer..

  • Having a MBPr late 2013 and having a sound problem the sound does not come tom the headphones even its all the way up and when i remove the headphones it docent come out the internal speaker either ? any idea how i fix this?

the sound do not come out the headphones sometimes altho its all the way up in the setting and when i remove the headphones the sound doesnt come from the internal speaker either and only a reboot fixes the problem and thats annoying! any idea how tto fix this?

Hello. I've been able to play sound without problems through headphones or external speakers to date - the output always switched to these automatically until today. Now, sound output continues through internal speakers even if I plug in headphones or external speakers.
    - I tested the headphones and speakers on other devices: they work fine.
    - When I plug in headphones or speakers into the audio output port (I have verified that I'm not using the input jack) the devices are not detected and are not listed under the output tab in system preferences-sound.
I concluded from this that I probably had a problem with the audio port, so to test that I tried the following. I plugged a powered multi-USB device with ports for microphone line-in and headphone line-out into the USB port and switched it on. I verified that it was working by plugging a USB stick into the multi-USB device - this was recognised successfully, so the device was clearly working. I then plugged in headphones and speakers into the audio line-out on the multi USB device - but still no sound came through them (and tey were not listed among output devices) and the Mac continued using internal speakers.
What should I do? Does the latter test suggest that the problem does not lie with the audio port, or is my test not conclusive? What would you advise?
    Many thanks indeed!

  • 10.6.8 - No audio out (but internal speaker fine) - MBP5,5

After upgrading to 10.6.8, plugging in my earphones or headphones does squat. My internal speaker still works fine though
I've tried the AppleHDA rollback (to 10.6.7 version) to no avail  - each time either audio disables totally or I get the "Incorrectly installed extension" error
The most interesting thing is my problem seems subtlely different from the 'popular' audio problems. Most bizarrely, audio out works until I log in (works on the login screen). It dies and I receive asserts on the console after logging in though (I'm not on the machine and I can't remember the exact assert message but something about failure during GOTO in some audio handler)
I haven't tried making another user account (to see if it's account specific) but I have tried deleting all manner of user-specific audio plists as well as doing SMC reset, permissions repair etc.
Any ideas? + Anyone have the same problem? (I'm presuming this is specific to this MBP + config)

one thing i have just tested i can copy files from my mac desktop to my macbook fine mmm!

  • No internal speaker option on my imac

I just had my video card replaced at apple and now there is no sound coming from my computer. Internal speaker is no longer an option in system preferences. Is there a way to fix this?

    Reset the PRAM.
Edit the Audio Midi Setup Utility preferences.

  • Walkman tape player to line-in no internal speaker response

    Hello :
    Walkman connected to Line-in socket.
    In Preferences :
Input set to "line-in", in/out volumes "full", mute "off"
Input level shows signal from tape player is being received.
Output set to "internal speakers", balance 50:50, volume full
The Walkman works with earphones. Tape is good and can be heard using earephones connected to Mac headphone socket.
However, despite all this, there is no sound from the PB internal speakers.
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks : DW

  • HT1338 no audio, no internal speaker option

i have no audio, the only option i have is digital out

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

  • MB Pro has lost the Internal speaker option

Trying switch the sound output to use the internal speakers, the option to us internal speakers is the sound output menu, how do I get this back?

You've posted in the Mac Pro forum. You need to post your question in the MacBook Pro forum.
Sound preferences is used to switch the sound output.

  • My headphone jack is unresponsive and audio still comes out of internal speaker

I went to listen to a YouTube video without bothering my wife; plugged in my headphones (both Apple ear buds and SkullCandy cans) but nothing came through them and the audio continued to pipe through the laptops speakers. Plugged in and out 7-8 times. Rebooted. No change.
First time this has happened. Thanks in advance.

CORRECTION: I'm running Lion 10.7.2 (not 10.6.3 as listed)

  • Switching Audio-Out to internal speaker with Audio still plugged in?

    Hello,
unfortunately I snapped my optical audio plug in my iMac and now it's stuck in the jack. What a mess. Until I take it to the service, I would like to use my internal speakers. Most unfortunately, as the part of the plug is still stuck in the jack, the iMac recognises external speakers.
Is there a way to switch to the internal speakers by software?
    Thank you!

As an alternative, you can get a USB to Audio adapter which plugs into a USB port and has audio input and output jacks. That should enable you to use your external speakers, bypassing the broken audio jack.
StarTech sells [THIS MODEL|http://www.startech.com/item/ICUSBAUDIO-USB-20-to-Audio-Adapter.aspx] for $23. I'm sure there are others.

  • No External Speaker Option.

I've had my Bose speakers for 3 years now.  All of the sudden my iMac only has an internal speaker option.
The Bose only work through the headphone jack now.  Thoughts?

well they do work with the audio out port (the "headphone" jack I spoke of). and that's how they've always worked (as it should.)
however the option now reads as:
    (  PREFS/SOUND/OUTPUT:  HEADPHONES/HEADPHONES PORT)
Why doesn't it say EXTERNAL SPEAKERS like it used to, is my question.  + I think the speakers sound worse. Maybe they are just finally going bad.
Oh yeah and Final Cut ALSO only has internal speaker playback option.
Tried the Audio MIDI before I decided to post this thread.
All devices are BUILT IN devices. Shouldn't there be an external output?
    Anyway, thanks!

  • Sound Output - Internal Speaker and Headphone Jack?

I just installed my new iMac, which replaced my Mac Mini. I hook my Mac to my stereo via the headphone jack for playing iTunes. But most of the time I don't have the stereo on.
is there a way to keep the headphone jack plugged in and still have audio come out the internal speaker? Basically send audio output to both the internal speaker and the headphone jack at the same time?
On the Mac Mini this wasn't an issue because I had a splitter that ran from the mini to my monitor speakers and to my stereo.
    Thanks!

Hi, you can get the internals to give notice of emails & actions..externals for any other sound..
Sadly your wishes on this matter will not come to fruition...L

  • Toshiba nb505 dual monitor & line out sound

Hi all, I've gotten a toshiba recently. Everything is working perfectly right out of the box--except the dual monitor setup (w/ a maxent moniter as the secondary).
The maxent works fine w/ other laptops, so that item is not the problem. It has to be the toshiba. When the toshiba starts up, the images like the toshiba logo and very initial windows splash will show up. But then it stops, and the maxent just goes back to its blue screen. In addition, the line out sound will only play right speaker sound (on the maxent and other devices) . . . but w/ headphones it is fine.
Please advise on any suggestions. Drivers are all up-to-date and windows updates are good, so I'm really lost.
This should be basic, so it's pretty disappointing this isn't working. Thank you!
    system info:
    toshiba nb505-508BL
OS Windows 7 Home Premium, 32 bit

    update:
sound line out: Apparently the speaker on that maxent monitor flat out just doesn't work anymore--no matter what input. And I suppose my hearing is such that it may well have been like that for a while, as it's unlikely the toshiba just happened to blow out that speaker these few recent times I hooked it up to the maxent (as there was no such indication, like a pop or the like).
dual monitor: Testing w/ other monitors successfully, this seems to be more a compatibility issue w/ the Maxent itself (though there may be other monitors it won't work w/, too). So I mostly wanted to put this out there still if wide compatibility w/ dual/external monitors is something that others are considering this sys. for, too. . . .
Otherwise, the netbook is working fine, and I have no other complaints--though I found this dual monitor issue rather disappointing (still I feel it's quite possible that a RAM upgrade may resolve this, since others have cited that upgrade as rather essential for getting the most out of this little sys., but I haven't tried that yet).
