Line Smoothing Bugged?

I've had some run-ins with my graphics tablet over the past few days or so, but after some experimentation, it appears that the issue is solely software side and nothing to do with my tablet. I had previously posted this problem on the Wacom forum:
http://forum.wacom.eu/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=17239
...but I'm afraid the solution the moderator/admin there gave me did not work.
tl;dr - Brush smoothing doesn't seem to be working, despite it being ticked in the brush settings, and I don't know why.
My thanks for any solutions in advance!
- Soul.
P.S - There are demonstration pictures comparing the smoothness in both Sai and Photoshop on the Wacom forum topic, so I'd recommend having a look even if you've got the general gist of my problem.
Edit: I have tried resetting the Photoshop preferences, both for the program as a whole and for my tools, but doing these seemingly had no effect.

There is stroke smoothing.  You can find it in preferences. (While Drawing / After Drawing). (click on the pen/app icon for preference panel)
You may want to change to "After Drawing" to see the line value change.

How can I draw a line smoothed with awt.graphics???
I use this class and not Java 2D because i need use it with I.E. without Java Plugin.

there are quite a few line antialiasing algorithms out there. try for example http://graphics.lcs.mit.edu/classes/6.837/F01/Lecture05/Slide12h.html
but any good computer graphics book will help.

Why hasn't line smoothing been included in Adobe Draw?  It was a great feature in Ideas.

  • LE7:Score Layout:Global Format:Maximum Bars per Line - Line Break Bug!

    Hello
This problem occurs in Logic Express version 7.
(I am using MacOS version 10.4.2 on an eMac)
I am currently compiling and editing a large score for a big band composition consisting of 22 parts:
    Flute 1
    Flute 2
    Clarinet 1
    Clarinet 2
    Alto Sax 1
    Alto Sax 2
    Tenor Sax 1
    Tenor Sax 2
    Baritone Sax
    Trombone 1
    Trombone 2
    Trombone 3
    Trombone 4
    Trumpet 1
    Trumpet 2
    Trumpet 3
    Trumpet 4
    Guitar
    Keyboard
    Electric Bass
    Percussion 1 (Kit)
    Percussion 2 (Aux)
I am creating the score in a separate file, and I am combining parts into 1 stave each by instrument like this:
    Flute 1 & 2
    Clarinet 1 & 2
    Alto Sax 1 & 2
    Tenor Sax 1 & 2
    Baritone Sax
    Trombone 1 - 4
    Trumpet 1 - 4
    Guitar
    Keyboard (2 staves)
    Bass
    Percussion
Each instrument, with the exception of keyboard which has 2 staves, consists of one stave, making up systems of twelve staves each. By sizing down each score style to 2,
I have managed to fit 2 systems onto each page, therefore significantly reducing the amount of paper needed.
The problem comes when organising the layout of my score,
in particular, the line breaks. Using layout:global format, I have limited the maximum number of bars per line to 8, both in the page edit and normal score mode.
I am trying to divide up my score so that there are 8 bars per system. Using the white arrow tool, I am dragging bars up and down in order to achieve this.
However, when I get 30 odd bars in, I discover a system with 12 bars crammed into it - and even printing it off, it is clear that the system could benefit with less bars; the notation is squashed up together and not very easy to read.
    THIS IS THE ACTUAL PROBLEM:
So I tried using the white arrow to move the last 4 bars down onto the next system, and a bug occurs where I end up with about 20 bars on the system, oddly distorted, the first few bars of which are squashed up together at the beginning of the line, and the last bar of which is stretched far off the right hand side of the page out of view. Then the next 20 or so bars are no where to be seen (probably far off the right hand side of the page) before the system below.
If you dont know what I am talking about, I could provide a screenshot if you request.
I have tried everything to get 8 bars on that particular system; dragging the stretched bar downwards, dragging squashed bars downward, moving bars down 1 by 1, moving bars onto the system above, moving bars away from the system below (to make room for the 4 bars that I want to move from above), adding more bars and dragging them down, but none of these methods have worked. I am either stuck with 12 bars crammed onto one system and 4 bars on the next or an oddly distorted version of the system which cannot possibly be read. Even when I settle with the unsatistactory former, I encounter further problems on subsequent systems below, some systems of which are already distorted.
All I want is to have 8 bars per system, it should not be too much to ask! The layout:global format:maximum-bars-per-line calculation seems to be redundant, even when I reset the default line breaks - it just does not automatically set 8 bars per line, which it should do. Is there not an option to determine bars individually by number onto their respective lines, without having to use the white arrow graphic layout tool?
The problem is extremely frustrating, and it is preventing me from completing, presenting and handing in a score for my university music composition.
I have no other score producing software, and starting it
from scratch on paper is going to take me weeks, because it consists of 830 12/8 bars in 22 parts, and I need to get it ready by next term!
Any help would be extremely helpful and much appreciated, especially a patch or a useful way round. It could be related to memory, or hard drive space, as I have experienced similar problems in the past, where my score has been stretched off the page during a time when I have had little disk space...and this is a very large piece of music which might stretch the score capabilities of Logic.
If so, has anyone got any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Rory

    nope just cutting should work.
here are some things to try:
    1. try assigning a different score style. for the regions. duplicate and then adjust the default ones if necessary.
    2. try creating a new instrument set. in fact delete them and make a new one (use the key command: create instrument set from selected)
    3. it may be a formatting problem so check:
in global layout constant spacing (try 8 or 9) and proportional spacing (try 45 or so). then try factory defaults.
    4. try copying and pasting the midi into a brand new region and looking at the score for that.
    5. try fiddling with the layout tool drqagging bars up or down.
normally simply cutting the region of just one object is enough to force a redraw. maybe try it on all of the regions. what happens when you double click on a region?

  • White lines & square bug in the viewer

I have a bug in my AE viewer  some white straight lines (or squares or rectangles) appear randomly in my viewer. if I move to another frame sometimes they diseappear, sometimes they show in different places, if I come back to the same frame idem.
When I render it, those bugs are rendered entirly black.
I can't show image of the project since it is under NDA
We are working in 32bpc, HDTV Rec 709, linear mode. 25fps resolution 1280x720. We have a lot of precomps, using one cartoon filters and lots of glow, levels, & box blur as lots of footages. They are all store on a server.
Any idea, did someone had this issue before ?
    thx

OpenGL most likely. Two possible things:
The cartoon filter itself - buffer corruption since it is used multiple times and they are not isolated properly. Turn off GPU usage in the effect itself.
A problem with color profile operations in the default "faster" mode. Try the "more accurate" method.
Other than that, simply turn off OpenGL entirely in the prefs.

  • Safari Image Smoothing Bug

    Hey there,
I'm browsing the web using Safari 6.0.5 on a MacBook Pro 15" Retina running OS 10.8.4
From time to time Safari does NOT smooth downscaled images correctly.
The issues seems to occur randomly with no repeating pattern.
    I already tried reseting Safari.
Whenever I close the browser the issue is resolved.
Reloading the webpage does not help.
Additionally all tabs are affected. Even if I open up new ones.
I attached pictures of the issue.
Have a look at the digonal lines and round corners.

Perhaps an extension or incompatible third party plugin  ...
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that off if there are any installed. Quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn extensions back on then uninstall one a time to test.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow all other plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.

  • Inserting a Line Break - Bug

I am running Dreamweaver CS4 on Windows. I have this weird situation that just started a few days ago.  Dreamweaver will no longer insert a simple line break by hitting shift and enter.  I have no reason why, instead it changes my title tag and ignores the command.  I am not sure if it is a bug or what.  Extremely annoying as that was a fast and simple way to format text on a page I was working on. Here is what the code looks like when I try this...
    Before...
Variety of convenient and secure ways to access blocked SPAM<br />
    After...
Variety of convenient and secure ways to access blocked SPAM
      <!-- MENU-LOCATION=NONE -->
    <br />
It also changes my title tag on the page to...
    Line Break (Shift + Enter)
The only thing I did was hold down the shift key and hit enter while my cursor was on a page in design view.  It used to simply insert a <br/> tag.  I have checked my preferences, check my keyboard, etc.  I can't find any reason why it suddenly started doing this.  Any ideas?

There is a javascript function that will allow you to split the string into component parts. It puts these parts into an array. Here is some sample code that should give you the idea. Assuming TextField1 has the compete string and TextField2 is the field you want to enter the separted string into.
    var
    strTemp =TextField1.rawValue;
    var  arrayTemp = strTemp.split(",");TextField2.rawValue
    = arrayTemp[0] + "\n";
    for  (i=1;i<arrayTemp.length;i++){   TextField2.rawValue
    += arrayTemp[i] +"\n";

  • PP 2007 - line break bug - not solvable with language settings

    Hi
I have somewhat the same problem with my Powerpoint 2007 as this guy:
    http://www.justanswer.com/microsoft-office/67fyp-inserting-comma-causes-line-break-even-when-plenty.html
Except it doesn't only occur with a comma. When I write in a textbox or a shape (speech bubble etc), Powerpoint sometimes forces a line break in the middle of a line (not in the middle of a word) without any reason whatsoever. It occurs
out of the blue, suddenly there is a line break in the middle of a line and I can't do anything about it. It looks like it turns on word wrap in the middle of the textbox, shape or whatever I am writing in.
Part of the problem can be solved using the language settings->japanese->allow latin text to wrap in the middle of a word. When I ran this procedure, the checkbox was unchecked, and when I checked it, the line breaks disappeared,
just as I wanted. BUT: now I am stuck with the another problem, namely that powerpoint wraps the text in the middle of the word which naturally breaks the word into two at the end of each line.
The only solution to this problem is doing the language settings->japanese-trick, as far as I can see after searching the web. And if I do that, if I uncheck the Allow latin...-box I get the same problem I had in the first place,
with the line break in the middle of the line.
I hope someone can help me with this.
    Kind regards
    Mikkel Clemmensen

I have raised a bug on this issue and I am actively looking into it.

  • Fix the forced line break bug already!

Illustrator has had the same bug since version 11. In 5 consecutive versions!
Forced line break in a justified text behave like a paragraph ending (Enter) aligning the line before the forced line break left. It looks like a new paragraph but it is just incorrectly aligned line in the middle of a paragraph.
Also Find & Replace recognizes only forced line break but (^n) not paragraph ending (^p) although both can be used in text.
Since discretionary hyphens do not have an effect whatsoever it requires a lot of manual editing to make typographically acceptable text block to the back of a book jacket.
So, Adobe. How hard is exactly fix this very annoying bug which has been reported dozens of times? It has even been demonstrated to your tech people who agreed that it really is a bug and should be fixed.

A force line break is still the same paragraph. You won't see a difference unless there is some text change with each new paragraph, such as a style change or the addition of space before or after a paragraph. The forced line break can also be used as a trigger in a nested style to make the first line or lines formatting for a paragraph different from the following lines.

  • Line art file suddenly looks pixelated. How do I get it to look smooth onscreen?

File was fine...lines smooth now even the fonts looks jagged. I don't know what changed in my file but can't find anything in preferences!!
Raster effects is still at 300dpi.
    Please help! Thanks

    check the layers pallet.
things can get pixelated, or look so, when you put many on top of each other.
ie. with the bottom text I copied it then hit paste in front a few times.

  • Need help in Line bar combo chart - line is not prominent in dashboard

    Hi All,
I face an issue where the line in a line bar combo chart is not prominent in Dashbords.
lets say i have 5 reports (all of them are line bar combo charts) in a dashboard. The lines in graph are not prominent or not displayed in usual thickness. But this scenario does not happen always. if i scroll down or up the browser(here i am using IE8) some of the reports displays line in the charts and some does not display the line. when i click on the report then the line will be displayed.
please suggest whether this is a browser issue ror something to deal with OBIEE itself.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
It's a bug in obiee11g. kindly download the patch file from My Oracle Support and delpoye it
OBIEE 11g: Line Bar Combo , With Stacked Chart , The Bar Width Gets Affected [ID 1369493.1]
Patch 12947990: BAR CHANGES WIDTH WHEN CHART CHANGED FROM DEFAULT LINE-BAR TO STACKED LINE-BAR
    Symptoms
When the chart type is changed from Standard or Default line-bar to Stacked line-bar chart, the bars are reducing their width.
Line-bar should keep the width of the previous bars.
However, when vertical Bar is changed to stacked vertical, the bar width remains the
same. But when a regular Line-Bar is changed to stacked vertical, the width
changes (reduces, in this case it becomes half the original width)
    Cause
For dual Y stacked bar graph, the bar width was half of the regular bar width
because the series assigned to Y2 was given the half of the space also. This is not needed if the marker type for Y2 is not bar.
The following bugs have been opened to handle this issue
    Reference Bug:
Bug 12931660 - line bar combo with stacked chart changes its width

  • White Lines in PDF

We receive PDF documents from various sources to be compiled into a single PDF for view on ereader devices. On some of the documents, white lines appear. This is a common problem judging by the amount of posts but I cannot find a suitable answer.
Most answers are for print or by switching line smoothing off. None is viable. We ideally don't want to go back to source to save it as a flattened pdf etc. Is there a way in acrobat pro or livecycle to batch process these pages to remove the lines?

There’s your problem right there. The files were flattened and you’re seeing the stitching.
    Get PDF X/4 files instead.

  • Draw line in illustrator cs2

    hi,
i am new to adobe illustrator cs2.
is there any other method to draw line other than s
    setEntirePath().
    thanks in advance,

    Hello David,
It sounds to me like you're witnessing the double edged sword of an incredibly sharp display. The contrast and clarity of LCD displays makes it very easy to see razor-thin lines with ultra fine definition, but this comes at a cost.
Font smoothing (a.k.a. font aliasing) is one example of where most LCDs are so sharp that most people prefer to have their text "fuzzed" up a little bit.
A one pixel wide diagonal line is another example that you've discovered - the display is so sharp that there is no blurring around the "steps" of the line. You can see every change in gradient, because as sharp as your CRT might've been, it was blurring the line just slightly - enough to enhance the illusion that your diagonal line was a line rather than a series of adjacent "steps". No software package that I know of has bothered to implement "line smoothing" yet, probably because you need the detail for accuracy when putting lines together.
Sort of related to this, big screen HDTV plasma and LCD monitors look amazing in the store when tuned to an HD station, but most people would be floored if they say how grainy and pixelated a standard cable signal looks on the same display. It's literally like watching an old VHS tape, because the display is so sharp it resolves detail that is invisible on a "lesser" display.
Neat human trick: get used to working with your LCD, and then go back to the CRT if you have a chance. How does the CRT look? I thought I needed glasses the first time I switched back!
