Line Tool- Other Arrows, Dashed Lines

CS3 PC:
Using the line tool in my tools pallet yields an arrow. Are there other arrow typesbesides the default? I would like a double ended arrow for indicating measurements on a technical drawing.
Also, using the Pencil tool, I'd like to be able to draw in dashed or dotted lines.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
BTW, u8sing the word "line" in the search function yielded zero responses. Not sure how this could be. Must be doing something wrong there too.

Suggest you try Adobe Illustrator, alone, or together with Ps.
In Ai there are similar line ends (arrows etc.) AND easy dashed lines AND perfect dashed line ends and corners if desired.
All better for a "technical" drawing.
Often even better, with dimensioning, is Visio.
They all "play" well together.

  • I want to know how to draw arrows & dashed lines in a picture control

I have to draw arrows & dashed lines in a picture control. Just like we can do that in word or paint etc. I need to do the same using the mouse and drag the line/arrow till I realease the mouse. I am able to this for a normal line ( it works perfectly) but when I have to draw an arrow or a line I am stumped.

Unfortunately, you have to code your own VIs to do these. It's not going to be too complicated if you manage the animation (while dragging the mouse) with a normal line and draw the dashed line/arrow at the end (when releasing the mouse button).
In both cases, you'll know start/end line coordinates, thus having the line equation. For arrows, you need to calculate the angle in order to draw it properly.
A simpler solution may be an activeX control with these features (Paint like) already integrated or to develop one in Visual Basic (at least it will be simpler to manage mouse events and drawing tasks).
Let's hope somebody already did it and wants to share.

  • Can not draw a solid line after drawing a dashed line

I have been using a Graphics2D object in order to paint onto a buffered image and then transition that to a panel for viewing. The way the program works requires me to create the dashed line first through BasicStroke. After doing this I have tried to reset the setStroke with multiple new pens including BasicStroke(), BasicStroke(1.0f), and BasicStroke(1.0f, BasicStroke.CAP_BUTT, BasicStroke.JOIN_BEVEL, 0.0f, new float[] {1,0}, 0.0f).
Any ideas as to why I am still incapiable of drawing a solid line?

a solid line?Without seeing any code, I could guess, but my guess and a quarter wont even buy you a newspaper around here now a days.
Seriously though, you need to create a short, self contained, compilable example. Look here for an explanation on how to create this:

  • Line Tool Question

Hi, I'm new to this forum.  I'm using freehand for my job and today when I select the line tool
to draw a line across a box, a small circle is appearing in the cross hatch.
Does anyone know what this is and how to stop it?  It's never done it before.
Below is a picture to show what I mean.
    thanks, Allison

    Hi Allison,
If you have any of the snap-to functions enabled (snap to guide, object or grid) then FH draws a small circle when the cursor hovers over a snap target. I shows you the exact location where the snap will occur. I don’t see it before starting to drag a line, though.
You should see it on other tool cursors as well, such as pen, rectangle, ellipse, etc.
Do you have any snap-to functions enabled?

  • Indesign Center Dashed line

Hello Sometimes I saw Dashed line in center of Indesign artboard. Generally in multipage documents. When They make pdf it automatically disappeard. How can ı put that center line.

Sounds like a dashed line drawn by the user. Set it to non-printing in the Attributes panel or draw it on a non-printing layer.

  • Acrobat 8 - Settings or preferences for Line Tool??

A colleague using Acrobat 8 can't use the line tool without having the lines snap to predetermined angles. I've looked in the preferences to no avail. The ability to turn this on/off is not located in the Commenting category of Prefs, nor does turning snap off in the Measuring categories resolve the issue. There is no Markup category in Prefs, so where do I find it?
    Thanks
[EDIT] Wow, never mind. He had Snap to Grid turned on...

Probably has snap to grid checked under the view menu.

  • Is there a way to draw a dash line that follows the curve in Photoshop?

    Hello,
Is there a way to draw a dash line that follows the curve in Photoshop (See image)?

  • Can't locate Line tool in elements 8

I am trying to find my LINE Tool to draw a line. Can not locate it.  Found the appropriate help item in Adobe help online but I do not have the LINE TOOL icon on my menu task bar. How can I locate it?

None of my flyout menus will fly out. I hover my cursor over the little  black triangle, and nothing happens. I click on the item and then hover my cursor over the little black triangle and nothing happens. I clock directly on the little black triangle and nothing happens.  Is there a setting or something that is preventing me from accessing the hidden menus?

  • Is there a way to create a line consisting in two different lines?

Like the lines that appears in maps: some are single lines (black stroke) but there are others that are f.e. a yellow line with other red thinner line inside. Can someone tell me how to do that? i'm drawing a map and it would be so much better if  I could that way. Thanks...

    Yes,
Add the write effect to your clip, set keyframes and colour it the outer colour.
Copy clip and paste it in track 2 on top of original.
Change colour of 2nd clip and make the brush size smaller and change Paint Style to On Transparant and add some brush spacing if you like.

  • Acrobat pro: how set default properties for arrow and line tool seperately?

I have a problem with the 'comment and markup' tools in Adobe Acrobat Pro.
I would like to change the defaults of some of the tools, eg the arrow and the line tool.
This can be achieved by right-clicking on something drawn using the tool in question and then selecting 'properties' - or by selecting the tool and then press ctrl+E, wich opens a 'Callout Tool Properties', and then change what you want there. The latter option keeps the changes as defaults - the former offers a box to tick in the 'properties' dialogue that opens - or, you can right-click on the object again after having changed the properties, and then select 'Make Current Properties Default'.
My Problem is now, that, apparently, you cannot choose and save default properties freely and for each tool. I woul like to have the default properties for the line tool set as the following:
    -line color: yellow
    -line thickness: 8pt
    -opacity: 60%
and fot the arrow tool as this:
    -line color: red
    -line thickness: 1pt
    -opacity: 100%
This all works fine as long as the program is open. As soon as I exit and start it again opening another document /the same one again, the arrow tool changes to
    -line color: yellow
    -opacity: 60%
only the line thickness remains at 1pt.
If I change the properties of the line to the ones I want for the arrow, the arrow properties remain unaltered if I close Acrobat Pro.
Why do these properties interfere? Why is it "line color/thickness" in both? Why, then, do only the opacity and the color interfere, but not the thickness - even if it's the latter two properties that are bot called "line xxx"? Why does Acrobat not save all properties for these two shapes seperately - even IF the two shapes are both of a line-like kind?
Is there a way to get around this?

Trobbel - This indeed is puzzling behavior. Clicking 'Make Current Properties Default' should preserve the default  appearance for each. I don't have a solution, but merely a couple of suggestions:
    1) Make sure you have installed any available upgrade for your version of Acrobat Professional.
    2) Consider using the line tool exclusively - you can add an arrowhead and make one tool perform both tasks.
    Hope this helps. /rmbrown

  • Line Tool: dashed lines

Can I make a dashed line using the line tool? if not, does Photoshop allow one to make/get a dashed line? How, please.
    Thanks.

    >you can set your brush spacing in the brushes palette and stroke a line (or path) created with the line tool. that's how you do dotted/dashed lines in photoshop.
And you can change the Angle Jitter to "direction" so the dashes follow the direction of the path. Works well with curved lines.
STILL... best is to use Illustrator.

  • Other Components Drawing Dashed Lines doesn't compile with Flex 4

The lib was created in 2006 so it doesn't compile with Flex 4.
The lib can be downloaded here http://www.quietlyscheming.com/blog/charts/dashed-lines/
When compiling I get this error:
    Description     Resource     Path     Location     Type
1136: Incorrect number of arguments.  Expected 3.     GraphicsUtils.as     /arrows/src/qs/utils     line 66     Flex Problem
    The line which doesn't compile:
    stroke.apply(target);
How do I fix this error?

I managed to compile the lib by rewriting the line:
    stroke.apply(target, new Rectangle(), new Point());
But I don't understand what I have done.
All Rectangle and Point dimensions are 0, but I'm sure it shouldn't be this way.

  • Command Line Tools installs the latest version of clang (and others) in /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools/... but not in /usr/bin/

I've upgraded Xcode to the latest 5.1 Installed Command Line Tools via xcode-select --install Homebrew tells me "A newer Command Line Tools release is available"
    brew --config:
    Xcode: 5.1 CLT: 5.1.0.0.1.1393561416 LLVM-GCC: build 2336 Clang: 3.1 build 318
    Checking my clang executable:
    $ /usr/bin/clang --version Apple clang version 3.1 (tags/Apple/clang-318.0.58) (based on LLVM 3.1svn)
    $ /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools/usr/bin/clang --version Apple LLVM version 5.1 (clang-503.0.38) (based on LLVM 3.4svn)
So it appears Command Line Tools didn't install clang (and perhaps other executables) into /usr/bin? I checked my other laptop (w/ Mavericks), and /usr/bin/clang is version 5.1.
So I'm guessing this is the problem? I've tried to reinstall Command Line Tools as sudo, but now it won't let me install again (says software isn't currently available).
Can anyone help me with this? I've spent hours on it now, but can't find a solution.
    Thanks

BTW, I installed Xcode 5.1 from the Store, but have never run xcode-select --install.  Here is the verbose output from a clang.

  • In Adobe Flash CS6, I have a blue box appearing around lines drawn with the line tool (and other tools like brush etc). I can't figure out how to disable.

In Adobe Flash CS6, I have a blue box appearing around lines drawn with the line tool (and other tools like brush etc). Whenever I try to use a tool,  a blue box appears around the line and I have to double click it to manipulate it, which opens just that line in a semi burred screen where all the other objects are semi-grey in the background. I can manipulate this line in this screen but nothing else at that time which I could do about 5 minutes ago. For exampe, I no longer can join up 2 lines drawn by the line tool together. For some reason this started randomly (probably due to a accidental shortcut combination) and I just can't put it back to what it used to be. I have inserted a video hopefully showing what I mean. Any help would be appreciated.
