Line6 Gearbox AudioUnits?

Have any guitarists out there tried the AudioUnit plug-in versions of Line6's GearBox amp modelling software? I've sniffed around some of their product offerings for a while now, but never bought any because as long as I was using amp models I liked the "re-amping" capability of GarageBand's built in models. But if the Line6 stuff is now available as an AudioUnit, that surely means I ought to be able to slap it into GarageBand and carry on with all the glory of twiddling their effects on my dry tracks, no?
Anyone have experience with this stuff? I've never really gone so far as to add any AUs to GB, but I wouldn't mind more and better guitar amps!
Cheers,
Carl

I'd avoid recording
an electric guitar clean as the tone of the guitar
affects what I play (acoustic feedback for instance
or delays). Applying effects after the recording
never seems entirely satisfactory to me as the
feedback won't exist
I'd agree with that whole-heartedly, but my circumstances dictate a need to record without a mic'd amp, which means I can wave goodbye to feedback in any case. Since I need to record direct, I reckon I might as well try to reap whatever benefits I can from the situation (and "re-amping" is one of the few!
Cheers,
Carl

  • Logic 8 performance: tiger vs. leopard

i've been waiting to upgrade to leopard, and i'd be interested if anyone has done an os upgrade and could provide some feedback regarding logic 8's performance.

    mmh,
some people warn that leopard & logic 8 is not the best.
speaking for myself: I have 2 mac systems. 1. iMac core duo 2.16 + 2gm ram - runs leo + logic 8 with line6 gearbox plugins and battery 3, perfect, no problems, hardly any overloads, (can't remeber when i had the last one and I worked wuite heavily with it the last days).
    really nice
2.macbook pro 2.4ghz -2gbram: (also leo plus L8)totally differnet story.
cpy spikes radomly, overloads all the time, can even run 2 track reliable.
This stinks. the mbp is not usable for audio purposes.
In both cases i use a alesis io26, which seems the most stable part of the setup.
problems are caused by some apple issuses (L8mbpleo) and line 6 stuff as well.
i both are fixing their issues soon !!!.
I wanna be able to mix mobile. (long hours in airplaines get boring ... )

  • I bet I can stump you.

I've got a strange problem. I used to use a Line 6 KB37 with GB '09. I decided to stop using it, so I deleted all Line 6 files from my Macbook. Now when I open GB, I get a couple of strange error messages. The first is:
*Error loading global resources in /tw_app.ast.*
I click OK, then another error message pops up:
    *Error loading assets from /*
*Reason: (Code 80001000) File not found.*
Also, when I open GB, a folder named "Line 6" is created in my documents folder. There is nothing in this Line 6 folder. I delete it, even secure empty trash, and it's back when I open GB. It just pops up in there. I can't get rid of it, and I think it's what is causing my issues.
GarageBand then hangs and won't open. When I log in as a different user, same thing.
    Here's what I've tried:
    Uninstall GB, reinstall.
    Verify and repair permissions.
    Delete caches.
    Restart.
Reverse to when it worked using Time Machine.
Probably forgetting some things I tried.
Running Snow Leopard. Really frustrated that I can't record anything on my spring break. Any ideas out there?

I had to look it up as my neighbor had that happen with a KB37
The issue was caused by case sensitivity.
The Contents/Data/Rez folder was empty but the folder named Contents/data/rez folder had the tw_app.ast and Line6 could not find the lower case directory.
Error loading global resources in /Applications/Line6/GearBox.app/Contents/Data/Res/tw_app.ast
Error loading assets file from /Applications/Line6/GearBox.app/Contents/Data/Res/
Reason: (Code 80001000) File not found.

  • Guitar & bass plugins with LP8 - several look good, but which to choose?

I record a lot of guitar & bass parts in a range of styles. Rather then continue to lug hardware around and record parts 'wet', I'm keen on getting a plug-in system for guitar and bass so I can record 'dry' and then experiment with different effects, amps etc in Logic.
Looking at the various options, NI Guitar Rig 3, IK Multimedia Amplitude (and Ampeg SVX) and the Line6 Gearbox Gold bundle all seem to do what I want.
But which to choose? I know that preferences will largely be subjective, but I would be grateful to hear from users of any and all of these systems to hear their views.
Which has the best array of sounds? The best sound quality? Do any of them use vast amounts of processing power and - most importantly - do any of thsm suffer from major latency problems when software monitoring?
All thoughts will be gratefully received to help me make a considered judgement on which to choose!
    Thanks

I have all the ones you've mentioned except the Line 6.
They all can sound equally good (or equally bad, depending on how much you've used real amps!) and seem to react about the same as far as latency is concerned.
The Logic Gtr amp can get some great sounds, although all of the amp models vary widely in tone and volume, so you really have to tweak. It's the easiest by far on the cpu.
The Ampeg SVX is killer on bass. Much better than the gtr amp sims are on gtr.
But with all of the IK Multimedia products I get a terrible buffer burp at the beginning of tracks.
It's like it won't clear the buffer from the previous pass until you burp it by quickly looping the first few blank bars before the track starts. I get this with T-Racks, Amplitube and SVX.
Guitar Rig 3 has the most toys to play with.
Pull up some of the Logic presets and see how they are using the Distortion plugins before the amp.
Turn off the limiters and gates. You also have a very wide range of colors to choose from with Logic's native plugs.
If you have to use plugins, then whatever you do, don't go back and forth between real tube amps and pedals. It's much easier that way to convince yourself that you almost have real tone.

  • LE8 crashes when trying to open Gearbox Plugin

I am having a problem where every time I try to open the Gearbox plugin in LE8 the program will crash. The only way I have been able to record is to open Gearbox first, establish a guitar tone, and then subsequently open LE8 and the tones will work and record.
I am new to using LE8 and do not have an external HD so I have been saving to my computer. I've heard this may cause issues; however I've only been using my macbook for a month.
    Can anyone help? Thanks!

    Hello Jay.
Older versions of Gearbox had been known to crash LE and Garage band at times. However, recent updates of the drivers have made it rock solid well, for me at least.
Run the Line6 monkey in Gearbox and it will tell you if you are up to date and update any drivers of firmware that are out of date.
FYI, I run the gearbox application first and then boot up LE, but have also done it the other way around with no problems.
Its also not ideal to record on to the HD of your Mac.
It should be ok to get started with and as long as the project is small and not running too many plug ins and tracks. But strongly suggest you get an external FW HD soonest as you get more proficient and your projects start to get bigger and more intensive.
    Hope this helps..
    Rick.

  • Setting up my Line6 UX1 with Audtion 3.0 on Win7 - settings dialog takes ages to respond

I downloaded the trial of Adobe Audition 3.0 (I've been using 1.5 on WinXP for a few years now and it's always been fine to use!)
I am trying to set up my Line6 POD Studio UX1 with Audtion 3.0 on Windows 7 Pro (64 Bit - 32GB RAM Quad Core Intel i7 3770 Processor)
I am noticing that the Settings dialog takes ages to respond and update with the changes I make - when I eventually managed to get playback - the playback only came out on the left monitor.
I should mention that I am doing this on a previous Audition 1.5 session - Audition 3.0 saved the session as a new session so I think that should be fine.
What I'm looking for here is the correct settings I need to use in Audition 3.0 to use my UX1.
I don't want to pay for Audition 3.0 if it's not going to work for me!

You won't be able to pay for Audition 3 since it was discontinued several years ago. However you may be able to upgrade to AA3 for free as a previous Audition user.

  • Advice to connect preamp (Line6 Toneport) to Creative 5.1 speakers?

    Hello all,
I have the Inspire P5800 5.1 speakers and was wondering what would be the best way to monitor the output of a preamp (the Line6 Toneport) directly through the speakers, to avoid the latency of going through my soundcard. I was thinking of something like this:
    http://www.samedaymusic.com/product--HOSCMP5
Will it work if I connect the 1/8 end of the cable into the aux in located directly on the subwoofer? Basically I would like to know the best way to connect two 1/4 mono outputs into my 5.1 speaker system.
    Thanks for your help!

I can confirm that with the 3.5mm toslink adapter the MacBook does give full 5.1 surround sound.
This is true but not the complete story.
Using a toslink cable you can get 5.1 surround sound from DVDs recorded with Dolby surround sound (and very effective it is, too). However, you won't get 5.1 sound from audio applications and games. For this, you need to buy an external 5.1 adapter, and right now I wouldn't know which one to recommend since the obvious choice (Griffin FireWave) is no longer being produced and it's Fire Wire anyway.

  • Recording crackle with Line6 POD HD

Running iMAC (late 2009) with 16 gig, USB interface with a line6 pod hd. OSX is Mountain Lion. Up to date on all latest drivers and maintenance. Consistently getting crackle(s) when recording using Logic Pro.  Any guidenced to troubleshoot or fix would be greatly appreicated. I have played around with the I/O buffers...no difference.
    Thanks

btw...I installed logic pro on my macbook air running lion (10.7.4) used the same line6 drivers..hardware and no crackle or noise while recording audio..only difference is that the system I'm having the problem on is a iMac (late 2009) running 10.8.2...really need help here...I tried to downgrade to Lion last night and wasted hours..was not successful since there are other apps (like iPhoto) who have database conversions..etc..so had to fallback to ML today..
any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Audio glitches/drop outs with Guitarport/Gearbox

I'm using Guitarport with the Gearbox software. My speakers are plugged into the headphone jack of GP, and I'm using GP/Gearbox as my default audio. The problem is that whenever I do this, there are audio problems, such as glitches/skips/drop outs. However, when I plug the speakers straight into the computer's headphone jack, there are no problems. So is Gearbox using up too much PCU or whatever? There is supposedly a "Processor Performance" setting for the OSX, but it is not there. I'm using a MacBook pro.

Make shure you sample rates and buffer sizes match. Check AMS or Sound in pref.> after application launch, sometimes it will flip automatically. Master then Slave i think > you might need more usb power

  • Anyone use the Line6 KB37 with Logic?

I've been planning to get a new interface and was going to go with the Apogee Duet, but then discovered the Line6 KB37. Can anyone here that has it comment on it? How are the mic pres? Is it pretty stable? How is the latency? Feedback appreciated. Thanks....

hi..i've advocated the KB37 many times on this forum, you get a lot of bang for your bucks, the best aspect is that there is ZERO LATENCY!!, that's right, absolutely ZERO, so you can set logics buffer to max and it wont matter, this is because the KB does all the monitoring. The mic pre's however are very average, but for what you pay that's no surprise. You can hear some of my work on www.steveshadforth.com ,all logic and KB37. Good luck with whatever choice you make, keep coming back to the forum!! Steve

  • Presets for Plugs like Line6 ??

    Hi!
Maybe some of you know, that on the Line6 Page you can search for sounds and load the found preset to your Line6 Product. For example I like a Johnny Cash song, I tip the titel in and wuup - the sound is there and it realy is like the original.
Now I wonder, if there is something similar for the synth and plugs for Logics MainStage. If I would like to have a keybaord sound like the Artist "Moby" or a hammond sond like a "The doors" if there is a page, where people add there presets, that listen like the original. Thanks a lot Martin

Maybe I have mad it too quickly after each other.
But when I choose one of the presets I have made. Then you see 19, bij 12,7 by each of them. Just like the second screenshot.

  • Node Processing AudioUnits

Sorry if this has been discussed already. I can't seem to find a definitive answer.
Is this possible? The Logic manual seems to imply that node processing only works on Logic instruments/effects... If it does work on audiounits that would rock!
Also, if I was to hook up 2 iMacs as a node, can I use a regular ethernet cable to join them or do I need a crossover cable?
    thanks
    D

Yeah, you asked me what was cool about the environment and I replied, but instead of relpying with a complete answer I answered somewhat, linked you to swiftkick, and asked you what you thought.
If you're curious about the enviro Swiftkick is completely worth checking out, getting familiar with some things people have done in the enviro. Much of user customization of the enviro comes down to signal flow and simple manipulations of data (simple math). In the end these simple manipulations can become very complex because of relationships and processes. If you like what you hear or what can be accomplished then let me know and I can answer Q's and get you started. Just using it to accomplish simple tasks and learning the modules (there really aren't very many-half of them are faders, many of which have identical function). So yeah, when you can't make music one night just spend an hour going through some of the resources there-if you are interested in what it can offer. I also directed you there so you can see what it offers.
Like Mike said, the enviro is rad-but alot of people make the simple mistakes of either fearing it or trying to tackle it all at once. If you find yourself editing and manipulating MIDI recordings throughout various editors in Logic, the environment will allow you to do much of that in realtime. It's also handy for other things. Cheers

  • Recording at 96k with Line6 Toneport not possible with Audition??

Is anyone else out there using a Line 6 Toneport device to record in Audition? This is a 96k recording device but choosing "96k" is not possible in Audition. I just spoke to Line 6 support and they say it's the fault of Audition. They say I have to choose 96k within Audition but I don't have to do that with my other devices. I'm able to record at 96 using other devices no problem by choosing in in the device control panel. The Line6 Toneport control panel doesn't give 96k as an option.
So Line 6 tells me that it's impossible to record at 96k in Audition. Please tell me it isn't so???
    Anyone got any help here?
    thanks!

A slight departure from previous behavior is that Audition no longer automatically changes the sample rate of your device.  There were too many problems when switching between different applications (e.g. between Premiere Pro and Audition, or Audition and Windows Media Player, etc) and the clock setting changing on the device, and then the device "freaking out" (to put it politely).
So, if there's software that came with Echo where you can change the clock settings, you might want to set it to 96 kHz there first, and then Audition CS5.5 should just go along with 96 kHz.

i saw that it's a software problem, because i've installed the latest drivers and logic gives me differents codes of error..
there's a midi conflict between logic and the audio hardware but line6 support doesn't help me as i wish
i hope that someone can explain me how to set my mac and logic to solve this midi problem..
i can't hear nothing.. for esample i have the same problem hearing a cd with itunes.
excuse me for my bad english :-D
