"Linear" curve doesn't exsist in After Effects

Hi! I can't do a simple LINEAR curve in motion in After Effects.
Even when I select anchor of my curve and set "Make linear" i got this:
I don't want to make "Easy Easy" curve. I want simple, linear which is going streight without any offset of motion.
But this is impossible. I try 1 whole day and nothing. Everytime I got strange motion curves like screen above.
But I want just have curve like that:
How to do this? I repeat, a button like this doesn't work and causes strange curve shape lik 2nd screen above:

Oh, for Heaven's sake.
Here's an example in a 1280x720 comp:  the pixel in the uppermost left portion of the comp is 0,0.  The pixel in lowermost right portion of the comp is 1280,720.  The center of the comp is 640, 360.
If you have trouble grasping this oh-so radical, 21-year-old concept, I STRONGLY recommend spending a LOT of time visiting the pages you will find here:

  • KeyED Up doesn`t work in After Effects CC

I`m using the english version of after effects with a german keyboard. I tried to change the keyboard settings with the script from KeyED Up. But when i`m starting the script i always get the message that there is no shortcuts.txt file in the Folder. Are there any other ways to change the settings?

    Hi
you have to copy the file
"Adobe After Effects 12.0 Win en_US Shortcuts"
    In your folder  --- Users/yourname/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/AfterEffects/12.0
and delete the words "Win en_US".
So, the new file it´s called   "Adobe After Effects 12.0 Shortcuts", be carefull and don´t put two spaces betweem the words "12.0" and "Shortcuts"
And then restart After Effects and load the plugin!
The folder before mentioned you can find it inside adobe after effects in Preferences/General in the bottom its a button called "Reveal Preferences in Explorer",
That button goes to the folder mentioned before.
    This its a great Script!
My email is [email protected] if you have any doubts.
Here´s a snapshot of the, button of preferences & the plugin working in CC
    Have fun!

  • After Effects and the new Mac Pro

I recently got one of the new Mac Pros and it doesn't get along great with After Effects, particularly when it comes to ray-tracing.  There is no Nvidia GPU option for the new machines, so ray-tracing defaults to CPU.  But then, even with a simple solid, it gives you an out of memory error.  I've seen postings saying this is fixed in 12.2 but I've got 12.2 and the newest CUDA driver installed and run the machine with all other apps closed, but no luck.  Presumably I'll figure out how to get it running after a fashion eventually, but even then, even with the new machines' many fast cores etc, CPU ray-tracing on the new Mac Pro is not looking promising on the speed/usability front.
Element 3D is an option, but its reflections can't interact with the comp the E3D object is within, only with the environment map in the plug-in itself, so there are many cases where it's a poor substitute.
My question isn't really how to get ray-tracing to work with the new machines.  That would be great, but my sense is the answer there is, it effectively can't.
My question is, given that motion graphics increasingly involve the complex interplay of light, reflection, transparency, and three dimensional objects, and that from here on out Mac Pros will no longer accommodate nvidia cards, and that many creative types will only work on Macs, how long will this state of affairs continue?  How long can it continue?  Are there any plans to make After Effects fully functional on the new Mac Pros?  Ray-tracing has always been balky and wonky and prone to error messages and crashes, but despite all that it's also an indispensible part of After Effects.

A fun update, long after the fact:
So I've learned Cinema 4D in order to reacquire the capability After Effects once offered internally and have succeeded after a fashion.  Let's look at the relative ease of the new method versus the old one using a real-world scene from my project:  Adding a bus shelter over actors on a bench.
In ray-trace enabled After Effects of old, I could draw simple draw shapes in Illustrator, extrude them into objects, collect them under a null and position it in my scene.  Particularly powerfully, I could bend 2D photograph layers into half-domes for a fun roof, and create planes of transparent glass of any thickness I chose with refraction levels that made for interesting visuals as actors moved behind it, and add reflectivity to any layer I chose -- including the dome roof, for instance, which would then pick up the reflections of any other objects in my scene.  I could also put 2D layers in front of my bus shelter as easily as placing a layer closer to the camera than the makeshift model.  Well, sometimes it didn't work as advertised; sometimes you also had to have the foreground layer above the background one in your comp even when both were 3D and that wasn't supposed to still apply, but at least it was After-Effectsy.  The whole thing was After-Effectsy, which of course is good because presumably AE users know AE, but also it was similarly logical.
To achieve a similar end with C4D and Cineware, all you have to do is this:  Build your bus shelter model in Cinema 4D.  Wait, first learn Cinema 4D, a hugely complicated piece of software.  Come back in 3 months, I'll wait.  Hi again.  I see you've built your bus shelter.  In fairness, you were able to add textures and complicated curves you couldn't in After Effects.  But then you always could, if you were willing to learn a hugely complicated piece of software.  Anyway, let's get that model into after effects.  Just drag that C4D project into your AE project and put it in the comp.  Put other layers in front of it or behind it.  Easy!  Now just a few caveats.  1.  Scale.  There is no formula available anywhere for the relative scales of your two projects.  So tweak that.  Just go back and forth between the two software suites -- I hope your computer can have both up and running at the same time! -- until you get that right.  2.  Cameras.  You can import your AE camera into C4D and vice-versa as easy as pressing a button in Cineware.  It shows up somewhere strange in C4D unless you use a workaround unless you are also camera tracking in AE in which case you can't.  3.  Scale again:  Your camera will match its moves in both suites now.  But they are drastically different sizes.  If you import your C4D camera into AE it becomes tiny tiny tiny, if the scale of commercial C4D models is to be considered at all standard.  Just shrink your model down to say 1% and you should be good to go.  And if you tweak your camera in AE or C4D, you have to junk your imported camera and re-do that step.  4.  Reflectivity.  Your C4D model will only reflect items in your C4D project, not the, um, scene it's going in.  5.  Refraction.  Transparent C4D items will indeed show your AE items behind them.  But you can't add refraction.  6.  I've saved the best for last.  Say you want your actors in your bus shelter, meaning part of the model is in front of them and part behind them.  You used to place them (shot on a greenscreen or roto'd) in the bus shelter model.  Now you simply do this:  Divide your bus shelter model into halves, the in-front half and the behind half.  Put both under nulls.  Give the front null a C4D "tag" called compositing.  At least its name makes sense.  Then go into the tag and enable a numerical "object buffer."  You're almost done!  Next simply go into "render options" in C4D and into "multi-pass" there and then enable object buffers again there, so intuitive!  Make sure to enable the same numerical object buffer you enabled in your compositing tag. Good?  Good!  Now, all you have to do is place two copies of your C4D project heirarchically in your AE project.  You're still almost done!  Now all you have to do is go into "multi-pass" in your Cineware plug in in the instance of it that goes in front of the actors and specify your numerical object buffer again.  Wait, one tiny thing:  If your Cineware plug-in is still set on the default "Standard" setting that option will be grayed-out.  Just switch it to the much slower-rendering C4D opions and you're good to go!  And don't worry about two copies of your C4D project in your AE one meaning it will now take twice as long to render, because it will.  But, as a bonus, you've probably learned a lot of ways to render C4D models really well when learning C4D because Adobe made you.  So you can use those to make your AE comp really shine... or wait, could, but they're not supported.  You can however render it in that flat ugly video early Pixar style, but life is full of trade offs, no?  You end up rendering out the layer you need in C4D and comping it into AE exactly as effects artists have done ever since always.  Which is to say AE gave up even trying to do 3D and sent you into the waiting arms of a more-capable competitor, their seeming specialty in the world of video.  Maybe it's better this way.  AE was only ever for comping.  It briefly got a swole head.  Now it's back in its comfort zone.  The end

  • Rendering issue in after effects in CS6 AE

I have got a file and it is from DSLR. I am done some animation on it in AE and want to render it. WHen i render it choosing "Lossless" . The output file is not smooth enough. When i play it. it start stop and start stop. WHen i choose a format option for Eg. PAL, NTSC or others. I get a error mSG at the bottomg screen. it says your final output size will be this x this. WHich is smaller than my original footage. WHat should i do to get my same size clip as origional 1920 x1080 with smoothness in the vedio when i play??
ANyone please advise. We don't need to anything like this in premier pro So why this is in AE.?
    Could anyone please advise?
    Thanks
    Sushil

One of the first questions that might be useful to ask yourself is what kind of output do you actually need?  Most people use the Aniamtion codec if they plan on moving in between different applications, re-rendering several times or doing heavy VFX work.  Since the Animation codec is lossless it works to maintain the best possible quality even when it's re-compressed.  However, there are many other lossless codecs such as Black Magic, Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) / 4444, Uncompressed 10-bit, Uncompressed 8-bit and Quicktime PNG.  Some have smaller file sizes, some might play back better in real time and some won't.  Some production houses even export in high quality image sequences to maintain quality.  That way if a render is interrupted you can simply pick up where you left off.  Then when you're finally finished with your image sequence render you can render everything into a single movie file.
However, if all you want to do is preview your animation on the desktop or upload it to the web, then I would suggest exporting to a delivery codec like H.264.  The quality is definitely lossy, but it's still quite good for final export and it should play fine off your desktop.  However, Adobe doesn't recommend using After Effects for H.264 output, so your best bet for quality is to drag your After Effects composition into Adobe Media Encoder, choose one of the H.264 presets and render it from there.
Remember that Adobe Media Encoder isn't automatically set up to export your After Effects comp based on the work area you set up in After Effects, so after you select your preset, click it to make custom changes and make sure the Source Range is set to Work Area.  Otherwise, you'll  end up exporting a bunch of black frames if your work area doesn't exactly match the length of your comp.  You could also do this prior to do dragging your comp over by right clicking your work area in After Effects and selecting Trim Comp to Work Area.
But, if you plan on working with your clip in other applications, for example moving in between Premiere Pro and After Effects, I would render it to a lossless production codec like Animation or one of the others I mentioned.  Although Premiere Pro works natively with the H.264 footage aquired from most DSLR cameras, it's usually a good idea to transcode all that footage to a production codec when doing a lot of work in After Effects.  This is especially true if you plan on doing any keying or compositing work.

  • After Effects not updating to 11.0.3 or 12.0.1 from 11.0.2 on Mavericks

    Hi,
I just update to Mavericks last night and today when I tried to open after effects, it tells me my version of operating system is not compatible with AE. I looked up google to find a remedy for this solution. I then came across the update of 11.0.3 from adobe site, aswel as the 12.0.1, but found no luck. It wont let me update it and gives me an error number
    Error Code: U44M2P28
    please help!!!

If you're running After Effects CS6 (11.0), the After Effects CC (12.0.1) update is not relevant to you.
To install the After Effects CS6 (11.0.3) update, do the following:
    1. Restart your computer.
    2. Open Adobe Bridge and no other applications.
    3. In Bridge, choose Help > Updates.
If that doesn't work, uninstall After Effects CS6, restart your computer, reinstall After Effects CS6 (11.0.0), and then do the three steps above again.

  • Fix for crash in After Effects CS5 and Premiere Pro CS5 when Joesoft Hear audio enhancer installed

After Effects CS5 and Premiere Pro CS5 both can crash due to a conflict with the Joesoft Hear audio enhancer.
We've just gotten confirmation from Joesoft that they've released a beta version of Hear that doesn't conflict with After Effects CS5 and Premiere Pro CS5. We're recommending that our customers who also use Hear install the 1.0.5b2 (build 490) beta version of Hear.
Let us know on this forum thread whether this solution works for you. We on the After Effects and Premiere Pro teams will monitor this thread for feedback, and we'll make sure that the folks at Joesoft get the information that they need, too.
When reporting back, be sure to let us know whether you've installed the Premiere Pro CS5 (5.0.2) update and After Effects CS5 (10.0.1) update.

After 2 days trying to get AE and Premiere past the mediacore initialization message, I finally stumbled on this little message.  Updating Hear definitely solves the problem!

  • Trying to import boujou .ma tracking data into after effects, seems like it doesn't support the file.

I have tried everything to try and get this to work; i have tried multiple settings in boujou, i have imported the .ma file into maya and exported with baked keyframes and only the camera selected etc. I don't know what i'm doing wrong. I am wondering whether Adobe has cut support for .ma files altogether, which is a real pain in my *** as the built in 3d track just isn't good enough. I have tried dragging the file into after effects, i have tried importing it neither of which do anything. The .ma files don't even show up, i have to select 'all files' under the file type when i choose import to even see the files, and when i click them it doesn't recognize it as tracking data, it'll try and import it as a .PNG file or something. I can't seem to find any plugins that would enable me to import .ma files. I just need that tracking data as a Camera in my scene and i don't care how it is done. Additionally, i have tried exporting as a .txt file and copying and pasting that data into a camera, which doesn't work (unless im doing it completely wrong).
    Thankyou for reading

I also experience this problem. My mp4 clips has been taken with a Samsung NV24HD camera and are HD (720p). I haven't tried to convert these clips but I think it should not be necessary since I can play them in quick time. However I have perian installed, perhaps that's why they play in quick time? The next question is then: Is there a similar plugin to iMovie?

  • How can I bind danish letters to my shortcuts? After Effect doesn't seem to care what I put in my shortcuts txt file.

    As stated.
I want to use the letters "æ" and "ø" to replace the brackets that the american keyboards use for trimming and cut at trim. It seems like such a nice feature.
I've tried putting in unicode with UX00E5 format and so forth like I'm supposed to, but it just doesn't seem to work.
How should I proceed, and what can I provide you folks with to help me with this?

It would be fine if at least After Effects would honor my new bindings, but it just doesnt work.
    What could be common problems?

  • Phantom hairline showing up in shape, transfers to After Effects, doesn't move on art board

    Hi,
First time posting here so hope I'm following protocol. We're having an issue at my office with Illustrator (5.1) and After Effects. This just started happening this week.
For some reason, when a file is created in Illustrator and you zoom in extremely clost on a shape, a thinner-than-hairline line appears on it. This has showed up as both a vertical and horizontal. When you zoom in or out, the line disappears, but it also appears in After Effects. It doesn't seem to be part of the shape or a fragmented shape because if you move the shape, the line stay stationary.
Anyone seen anything like this? The video editor and I have NO idea and we've been trying to figure it out for a few days now. Also, the issue isn't in just one file; it has happened in two separate project files now.
    Thanks!
    Christi

This is an issue with current PDF libraries used by Adobe apps. For some reason content gets tiled, even if it doesn't actually require flattening. Same issue occurs when rasterizing the files in PS. Anyway, with regards to AE the sane advise would be to safe back to CS3 no matter what, because there are bugs in its handling of newer AI formats... This potentially also avoids your issue...

  • After effects CC export to premiere pro CC: audio doesn't match

    Hello!
I am making an animation serie for Belgian TV. They need me to export  only my audio from premiere (I make the animations in after effects).
    They need OMF format.
When I export from after effects CC > Premiere pro project (only to export my audio to OMF from here) the audio doesn't match.
Adobe media encoder doesn' support OMF unfortunately.
Example; if I stretch the audio time in after effects, premiere doesn't.
I am really stressing out and any help would be very welcome
    Thank you!

    Hello Jim
    Thanks for the reply!
When I import my after effects composition into premiere, it is perfectly visible and the audio is correct.
But now it is suddenly impossible to select > export > OMF
Do you know why this is?
