Linear Raw dng set color order?

Hi,
Is it possible to set the color order in a Linear Raw dng? I have B,G,R and not R,G,B. Is it possible to set this in the dng sdk as a tag? Or do I have to reorder my pixels?
Thanks a lot,
Greetings,

It actually does not matter what order the colors are in, as long as the color matrix tags use the same order.
(The colors don't need to be "red", "green", or "blue" either. They can be any three or four arbitrary colors in any order).

  • Ordering Prints from LR Raw/DNG

I've got a boatload of raw/dng photos I need to print. What's a good workflow for ordering prints from an online service?
Say something like Shutterfly? Looks like there's a plugin for LR. I'd like to avoid mass converting to Jpeg/srgb... is there any service that takes a raw/proPhoto rgb? Or is that overkill?

JPG highest quality, full resolution with sRGB should be good enough for a place like Shutterfly, unless they gprovide formats for special paper, then you can convert to those, but be sure you specify they have a custom profile and no auto-adjustments are to be performed, otherwise things won’t look right since they’re likely to assume sRGB for the profile.
Raw cannot have ProPhotoRGB associated with it since it is raw sensor data not RGB data.  And a raw file would be interpreted by the printing company using whatever software and settings they wanted, completely ignoring whatever you’d done in Lightroom.
What gives you the idea that you need to send raw photos, or even ProPhotoRGB photos?  Is the prints going to be in glowing or fluorescent ink.  I can’t imagine any other reason to use ProPhotoRGB as an image profile desitined for printed output since paper usually has a lower gamut than your monitor, even.   You use ProPhotoRGB with 16-bit TIFs for intermedia or archival perposes.  You wouldn’t want to use ProPhotoRGB with an 8-bit format or as a final output format for printed or display purposes since the gamut of the paper or display would be much smaller than ProPhotoRGB.  Normally you use ProPhotoRGB as an intermediate format for images that will be adjusted further.

  • How do I process raw .dng or .pef from pentax k20d into .tiff 's (or jpegs) in aperture 3?

    hi all my friends!
how do I process raw .dng or .pef from a pentax k20d into tiffs or jpegs in aperture 3? (i have the trial only but will buy a3 if i actually can learn how to use it in 30 days...which i've failed so far)... the raw files are taking up too much space on my HDD. i understand how to change the colors, sharpness etc of the raw files. but how do i actually turn raw files into a tiff or jpeg to just keep in the library in aperture? i have no intention of keeping the raw's.. I just shoot raw to get better jpeg or tiff results.
also I would greatly appreciate some tips how to do this in batches fast and easy. I have yet to yield images so good i will actually want to spend time perfecting them. for now i just want an easy way to turn raw files into tiffs or jpegs with some standard or completely auto mode. i can do it in camera but it is time consuming.
and you cant convert raw to jpeg or tiff in iphoto, right?
    best regards, Joakim
p.s. and thank you who will answer this...i can't find the answer anywhere...tried for a whole day... d.s.

do you know if the raw files are some way made more compact when you shut down aperture? cause i mean, +20MB for a pic is a lot of space on the hard drive vs. 5MB for a jpeg or so...of course keeping your raws would be the optimum if they simply don't take that much more space than a jpeg... how does aperture do it? are the files "zipped" when not in use?
No, the size of the files doesn't change, Aperture doesn't compress or otherwise alter the masters.
and in either case, can you put the aperture archive/library somewhere else than on your local HD, like a portable 1 TB HD? mine is only 250 Gb or so and running low...
This is doable and most people running on laptops use this method in one form or another. The best results are  obtained by keeping the library on the internal HD but storing the masters on an external HD. The masters in this case are referred to as 'referenced' (when the masters are in the actual Aperture library they are referred to as 'managed' )
By putting the masters on an external disk but keeping the library on the internal you get the best of both worlds, reduced internal disk consumption and better speed accessing the Aperture library. If the library itself was on the external HD, especially if it was USB, you could notice decreased performance.
There has been much written about this type of setup here in the discussions. Searching the list here should get many articles discussing this topic with lots of very good advice.  Also spend some tim with the User manual, Apple did a good job with it and the fist few sections really explain the various bits of the library and the different ways to set it up.
As i wrote in my first question, is there an easy way to adjust the values of a 100 raw files automatically?
To adjust a large number of images try this: Select one image and adjust  it as you like. Then select Metadata->Lift Adjustments, a HUD will open. Now select the other 99 images and in the HUD that opened select Stamp Selected Images, all those 99 images will now have the adjustments you applied to the first image.
Again this is all covered in the manual.
    Good luck

  • Panasonic Raw, DNG, and Aperture

So, I've tried everything I can to get a Panasonic RAW file into aperture without going through ACR and outputting a TIFF. I have tried all DNG converter options (Yes, ALL, in every combination) To no avail.
Here is the interesting part though: Aperture will generate the thumbnail, but when imported it says Image Unsupported. This was even with jpeg preview set to NONE in DNG Converter. SO if Aperture can extrapolate a thumbnail preview, why can't it work with the image?
    Interesting.....
    Dustin.

What would be even better would be support for the
linear conversion that can be embedded in a DNG file
    - that way you could use DNG files converted from
almost any camera under the sun and import them,
    including medium-format backs.
I submitted a request for this and everyone else should too - perhaps then priority for it would increase.
The annoying thing is that Linear DNG is supposed to be the format that ALWAYS works even when other DNG conversions fail. It exists as a fallback, so supporting some DNG files but not Linear RAW is madness.

  • RAW DNG sequence / Edit Original with ACR within Premier

I need to speak to a Adobe Premier expert. I have a RAW DNG sequence shot on my Canon 5d Mark 3 via Magic Lantern imported into my premier project now. I want to edit the DNG's image settings with ACR (adobe camera raw). So i right click on my DNG sequence / clip and go to Edit - Original . ACR pops up and i make my image modifications. I click ok but the DNG sequence doesnt change, its stays the same.
Now i can do all this without trouble within After Effects, but it just adds another step to my workflow. When it should be working within Premier. Im still waiting to see if ACR will ever work directly within Premier.

Maybe whoever answers your question can give me some insight. I imported my DNG sequences to After Effects, because Premier wouldn't import the DNG sequences,  and created a new comp for each of the shots I have. Later in Premier I imported all those AE comps. Now where would be the correct place to color correct and grade this? Straight in Premier? Or will I be loosing the flexibility of the DNGs? Should I do it instead in the AE comps? Or maybe it doesn't matter? Thanks for the help!

  • Prerendert mp4 replace with RAW DNG in After Effects

    Hello,
I try to replace a mp4 clip with RAW DNG. The mp4 clip was made from the RAW DNG, but when I try to replace it, the length of the clip never fits.
    Details:
    1. RAW DNG recorded with 30fps
    2. RAW DNG with Media Encoder to 30 fps mp4 rendered
    3. mp4 import to AE
    4. Replace mp4 with RAW DNG
    Result:
    mp4 clip length = 08:19:12
    DNG RAW length = 06:39:04
The info window shows bith clips with 30fps .
Both clips shows: 0000000-0011973 (frame count from dng raw )
    All Settings on 30fps:
Media Encoder: "Media / Indeterminate Media Timebase: 30fps"
After Effetcs: "Import / Sequence Footage 30 fps"
Premiere. " Media / Indeterminate Media Timebase: 30fps" (just in case  - maybe encoder reference pp..i dont think so..but..)
What can I do? Im doing something wrong, or is it a software error?
Even if I dont replace, just import the raw dng to AE it show the shorter lenght, but as well 30fps in the info window.

    I did a testfile.
I exported a clip (30fps) to png sequence (60fps) and add it to the media encoder and when I press the button "match source" Media Encoder shows me (again) 23,976fps, but when I manually put it on 30fps it really export with 30fps. So I have a mp4 with 30fps
So I import that mp4 to AE its 03:29, when I import the pngs itself directly to AE its 03:29. So my setting seems to be correct. I choose the same settings importing RAW DNG.
I recognize that Media Encoder doesn`t recognize that the RAW DNG is a picture sequence, in the import window the "import sequenze square" is grey out, but it imports it as a the picture sequence, but not with the correct fps.
Its confusing, because it shows in the the clip info, after rendering the correct fps (30fps), but its not 30fps , its more like 23,976 frames. So it really looks that its a adobe software error.
    Is it?

  • Camera RAW: NEF - JPG color dessaster

    Hallo...
I use PS CS4 on my Mac. Normally I use Camera RAW to convert my D90 NEF-files to JPG-files without using Photoshop.
In Camera RAW look all colors great. When I convert the 12Bit-Raw-files to 8Bit-JPG's all colors look sad and gray.
    Where is my mistake??
In the export-dialog it's not important if i set 16-bit export or 8-bit export - the colors look like crap!
The only workarround i found is to rise the saturation and dynamic for 15-25 points. Is there no better way?

If you are saving to JPG directly out of Camera RAW and not enhancing further in Photoshop then you should probably save as sRGB, especially if you are putting the JPGs out for people to see on the internet.
What could be happening is that you’re saving as ProPhotoRGB or AdobeRGB but the viewer you’re using to verify the colors is not doing color-management properly so it is interpreting the colors as if the JPG was sRGB even though it’s not.
If you are going to be editing in Photoshop then keep the colorspace in ACR as 16-bit ProPhotoRGB and do the conversion to 8-bits and sRGB in PS just before saving as JPG.

  • Raw(DNG) + JPG strangeness

Okay I'm having a bit of a problem with Aperture and I'm not really understanding what its doing.
I have my camera (Leica M8) set to RAW+JPG mode. I do this because I like the B+W that my camera produces but I also like to have the RAW file in case I feel like producing a color image. Best of both worlds and all is happy in Camera land.
When I first started using Aperture, after an import, I would see both the B+W jpg and the raw file in the browser. This worked especially well because I could then just choose which one to work on. Making adjustments on either of the files and then exporting them was seamless.
Somewhere along the line this stopped happening. I don't remember changing any settings, but now after an import all I see is the raw file. I have my images set to store in a file directory structure instead of the Aperture database, and when I go check those folders out, the jpg is indeed there, so technically its getting imported, but there's just no way for me to see it in Aperture.
    Any ideas?
    * I have tried switching on & off the "use Camera's jpg preview for raw files setting and nothing changed.
    * I've made sure that stacks are set to expand, so its not just the images being stacked.

I'm just taking a wild stab at this. Do you have the import option of "Do not import duplicates" turned off?

  • No Linear Adobe DNG support?

Reason I would like to see Linear DNG is for the sake of Sigma X3F RAWS. Since the X3F is a non-mosaic RAW DNG Linear would be just fine since Aperture doesn't seem to know how to handle non-mosaic RAWs or they don't want to. Simply converting X3F RAW to TIF isn't good enough to get the full benefits of RAW. Opening up DNG Linear within Aperture would be advantageous for Apple and for their users. If they can allow JPEGs within Aperture it would seem to me that opening up DNG Linear would be more than fine and would address a host of problems for Sigma users.

Actually it is true. DNG is NOT a standard. It is in fact a proprietary specification. Adobe has released SOME of the DNG spec to outside vendors, but there's no way to prove they've released the entire spec. It is their system and they control it.
For a file to work within the DNG format, enough of the information supplied by the camera manufacturer's SDK has to be DNG compliant. I've spoken with Apple engineers who explained that the DNG format is too limited to get a good decode unless the SDK offers enough corresponding good information. For instance, a certain camera may support parts 1, 2, 5, 7 and 9 of the spec, but not 3, 4, 6, and 8. While technically, you could open the DNG file under these circumstances, you couldn't get a good decode.
Apple simply decided not to let a poor decode creep into the system just so that they could say they supported a camera.
While I am sure that some of the limited RAW support we're seeing is indeed the result of miscues or miscalculations by Apple, I believe that the camera manufacturers share an equal portion of the blame.
We already know that Nikon for instance has a history of refusing to play well with others when it comes to their "as shot" data. While that's been resolved with some Nikon cameras, it is still an issue with others and a perfect illustration of why users should be putting heat on their camera manufacturer to get the RAW file format support they want.

  • Setting color codes for more than one photo at a time

Is there any way to set color codes for more than one photo at a time?

    Hi John,
I will look at keywords. My issue is speed. Right now I am culling and editing an event shoot that spanned a week with 35 separate events and more than 5000 images. So I use the fastest most convenient method I can and it still takes a long time to have a completed and final shoot. On this shoot I will end up with a final set of around 1500 images. Right now I am finishing processing a show that will hang in the Deutsches Amerikanish Zentrum in Stuttgart.
As I am sure you are aware by now, having seen enough of my inane questions that over the last two years or since Lightroom version 1.xx if I could not figure out how to do something I skipped it. So many things in Lightroom are buried and unless you have a mind like a steel trap (and think that some of you guys in the forum do) locating how to do something is not obvious.
For example, I only learned (in the last hour) that I could assign colors as a group of selections by using Shift + number. I found this in a side head in Martin Evenings Lightroom book. I still do not know how to find a way to display the color filter "selection" set in Library mode. Is there a way?
To top it off, Stuttgart Media University asked me if I would add a Lightroom module to my schedule this year. Now I have a compelling reason to learn all those missing pieces that I have created workarounds for. Hence the number of posts you have been seeing from me over the past few of weeks.
I tell my class that there are no such things as stupid questions, only questions. Now I am practicing what I have been preaching for the last gazillion years. Guys like you have been great.
    My workflow is
    1. I first separate all images by event. I do that at the time of import.
    2. I do a fast pass rejecting all the obviously bad images
    3. I do a second pass grouping the images by sub-group (speeches, people talking, performances, etc.) This is where I run out of selection methods and your key-wording could work but it would probably take too much time to establish a keyword set for a single event. Where I have more than five subgroups I set up different collection sets with one collection for each sub group. However I would like to keep a single event in one collection.
    4. I then select the images to be used by color code.
    5. Next I process the final images (crop develop etc) by collection.
    6. Last I output the set according to client requirement.
If you have a better workflow, I am all ears.
By the way, what is your photo specialty and where are you located?

  • Setting tab order in Acrobat 9

This is the first time I'm trying to set the tab order in a PDF created in Acrobat 9. I am used to the previous versions where all you had to do was click through the fields to set their order, Adobe seems to have changed it to be much more cumbersome requiring you to drag the fields in the field list. I can see where this might be useful in certain cases, but I would like to still be able to edit the tab order the older way. For larger more complicated documents, it's just much easier to do it this way for me. Is this impossible in newer versions, or am I missing something?
I tried opening the file in Acrobat 8 on another machine, and the 'Edit Tab Order' command is greyed out for this file, so I'm guessing that editing in 9 must change the file to make it incompatible to edit this way.
If anyone has any insight on a way to easily edit the tab order in version 9, or to allow the file to be edited in version 8, I would be grateful for any assistance.

Yes, I do have the Select Object tool active. (The 'Edit Fields' menu option doesn't show up unless that tool is active)
I have tried to edit the PDF on my Mac and PC, and in both cases, all of the menu options under the 'Edit Fields' menu, including the option to set the tab order, are greyed out.
I did a quick test and copied the fields into a new document, and the menu was available, so I may be able to get this working by opening a new copy of the original PDF and pasting the fields I have set up into that document. I hope this works, because my estimated time that I will spend rearranging the fields is about 25-30 seconds per field which would equate to about 1-1.5 hours of work just to set the Tab Order!! That's compared to about 2-3 minutes or so (at max 5 minutes). With all of the checkboxes, text fields and combo boxes, there are roughly 250 or so fields on this form.
Thanks. If you have any other suggestions, let me know.
