Liner notes without digital booklet?

I've just purchased the new Cat Power album through iTunes. I know only through my own familiarity with some of the songs, and through reviews, that almost all of them (which are absolutely incredible) are covers. But there's no metadata telling me who did them originally. Is there absolutely no way of getting the same information about who wrote the songs, who first performed them, etc., that I'd get by buying the CD at a store? This is the first time it's occurred to me I'm getting anything less than a plastic jewel box when I purchase digital music online.
One would think the music company would want a buyer to know this kind of stuff, rather than think of it as value-added product.

Couldn't agree more. I bought an album on iTunes by a blues guitarist, featuring a number of guest appearances on each track - but the download version contains no way of telling who's doing what on which track. It's the main reason I still prefer to go into my high street store and buy the 'real' CD.

  • Not include digital booklets in smart playlists?

I don't know if there's any way to do this, but I have smart playlists created, which are based on certain genres, or only include certain artists - but they always include the digital booklets from these artists, and I can't just get rid of the digital booklets because it's a smart playlist, and it won't let me. Is there any way that I can choose to not include digital booklets in these smart playlists, besides deleting the artist from the booklet, in the actual library?

Add the criterion "Kind is not PDF document"

  • Are there liner notes for digital download albums?

I just started purchasing albums via digital download and I was wondering if there was a digital equivalent to the liner notes you used to get with vinyl albums?  I also noticed there are no composer credits listed with the songs.
I used to learn alot about the music industry from reading all the stuff written on those notes both on the back of albums and inside or on the dust covers.
No to meantion what about albums which came originally with lots of photos or booklets?  Do they make these things available for download when you purchase the digital albums?  They should in some kind of PDF form.

If the album doesn't have iTunes Extras, of which there are few, there are no liner notes provided and you'll have to look to other web sites for that sort of information.
    Regards.

  • How do I access liner notes?

How do I access liner notes for a purchased album?

If the album includes a digital booklet this should be shown in your library along with the tracks of the album. It will be a standard PDF file that will open in Acrobat Reader or whatever application you have that is registered to handle that file extension. Most albums do not include digital booklets.

  • Digital Booklets With Adobe Reader

I recently purchased a Digital Booklet, but when I click on it (on my computer, in my music library) Adobe Reader opens and the follow message shows:
"Adobe Reader could not open 'Digital Booklet - Say Anything.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."
I tried to update Adobe Reader, but it still shows this message. How do I view my Digital Booklet?

Are you getting a corrupted file message, and how are you downloading them ? With the U2 booklet I could only open it when I downloaded it from Purchased, not via the cloud icon in the Music part of my iTunes library (i.e. if you have 'show iTunes in the Cloud Purchases' ticked on the Store tab in iTunes > Preferences).
Try deleting the booklets from the Music part of your library. Then go into the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage and try redownloading them from there and see if you can then open them.

  • The digital booklet of the album I purchased won't run, Adobe Reader claims the PDF file is damaged.

I purchased an album (Avenged Sevenfold - Hail to the King, if it matters.)
On one of my authorized computers, the downloaded Digital Booklet PDF file isn't working, and Adobe Reader displays the following error:
"Adobe Reader could not open 'Digital Booklet - Hail to the King.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged."
On another authorized computer the file works fine.
I tried transferring the 'damaged' file to another computer, and it doesn't work. Meaning the file itself I get is damaged.
    What can I do?
    Thanks.

Digital booklets are not available for repeat download or I would suggest you simply delete and get a fresh copy. Instead use the "report a problem" links in your account history to contact the store support team. Hopefully they can requeue a working version for you to download.
BTW this is the second report I've spotted regarding this album, so there may actually be a problem with the source file. I take it you are running the latest version reader, if not it would be worth upgrading to eliminate the unlikely event that it is an issue.
PS. On the other computer where it works was this file downloaded with your account or another? Have you tried transferring the copy that is known to work to your other computers?

  • Problem downloading digital booklet

I purchased an album months ago that included a digital booklet. The album downloaded fine, but not the digital booklet. EVERY time I open iTunes, it tries to download the booklet. And every time I get an warning about not having access privileges. I have checked and re-checked and I have access to my music folder, my iTunes folder, the folder for that album.
Is there something else that I should do? Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hey richpickford,
Thanks for the question. In researching the error message that you described, the following resource came up:

These messages occur if permissions are incorrect on your designated music folder or on a folder inside your designated music folder. Permissions are settings that determine who can read, write to, or execute a file or folder on your computer. Every file and folder on your hard disk has an associated set of permissions.
Example: If permissions are correct on your Music folder, but incorrect on the U2 folder inside your Music folder, you would be able to add other music to your iTunes library, but not that new U2 album.

I bought an album on iTunes and the digital booklet it came with is not in my iTunes library. How can I get it back?

You could try emailing iTunes support, giving them your order number, etc. or you could just take the hit and pay the 99p.  I know what I would do.

  • ITunes digital Booklet not working

When I purchased AMOK by Atoms for Peace, I noticed that the digital booklet was not working.
The file “Digital Booklet - AMOK.pdf” could not be opened.
It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn't recognize.
Now of course I have Adobe reader installed, but I didn't think much of it at the time. Then I purchased a new macbook pro retiring my old black Macbook. I have Adobe reader installed, but have the same problem when I downloaded the album off of iCloud.
Could this have been a mistake on the upload of the album to iTunes by the digital manager of Atoms for Peace? Or I am missing something?
Not really a big deal, but I thought I should reach out and see if anyone has/had this problem.

Digital booklets are nothing but PDF files, that should (theoretically) open in any normal PDF viewer. (Interactive booklets, on the other hand, are Flash/Quicktimes files that have all kinds of fancy features but can be more buggy).
You might want to try to open the PDF file in a different viewer, to make sure that it's not a problem with Acrobat. If it won't open in any viewer, your best best is to contact iTunes Support about the bad file.

  • Digital booklet listed as music, not book

I recently purchased an album from iTunes Store, it came with a digital booklet, a PDF file, but it is listed under music, not books.  In the Get Info section under Options, media kind is listed as music, not book and is grayed out so I am unable to change it.  Is there a waqy to fix this?

I'm not sure why you can't change the media kind, but if you copy the file from the album folder and paste it into the Automatically Add to iTunes folder you should get a copy that will transfer to iBooks.

  • Digital Booklet showing in Books but not in iBook

    Hi ,
I have changed the Digital Booklet from file > get content into Book.
Then, under the iPad Device, the Digital Booklet appears to be in Books and I tick it and try to sync it over to my device.
After sync, the Digital Booklet is not at my device.
In addition, I cannot see the Digital Booklet at iBook at my MAC OS X as well but it is visible at the Books under device setting there.
I have no idea why the Digital Booklet is showing at Books section but cannot sync over to my device or to my iBook at Macbook.
I want to try to convert it back to the iTunes but it seems I cannot find a place to convert it back so that it can be view from iTunes.
    Please help on this.
    Thanks

  • Digital booklet from album did not download

My digital booklet for soundtrack album, Skyfall, did not download.  I purchased whole album but it still won't let me download.  Any suggestions?

I tried a few things.  Not sure which one made it work.  These are from an HP standpoint.
One attempt was going to the Edit toolbar/Preferences/Store button and click Always check for downloads and click the Books box.
The second was by going to View/Show Sidebar.  Then under Store, doing a left click on the "Purchased" and select "Check for available downloads."
    Hope that helps.
