Lines around elements in PDF output

Hello.
When I output a PDF out of Acrobat 9 (originally created in Indesign CS4), I get weird lines that surround text boxes, images, etc. Here is an eBook version of the PDF I'm having problems with.
http://www.supergroom.net/sg09_program
You can click the PDF button to directly view the PDF. You can see even on the front page there are lines surrounding elements of the page.
How can I remove those lines?
Thanks

In Acrobat, if you deselect the Smooth Line Art and Smooth Images check boxes in the Preferences the problem goes away but that doesn't help as that is a user preference.

  • Hairline white line around images in PDF for press

    CS3, Windows XP
    I searched the forum and didn't find this exact question, so..., I place PSD file in ID. When I export to PDF for the press run, I get a thin hairline white box around the photo. It only seems to happen when the placed image is over a gradient. It also only happens on PDF files for press run - either Press Quality or PDF/X-1a:2001. When I export to "Smallest File Size" it looks fine. I have the border of the image set to 0 and the color to None.
    And it only seems to happen sometimes. A month or so ago I created a similar piece using different photos, but the same gradient background and it looked and printed fine.
    Thoughts?
    JAG

    The stitching and a grey box was showing up on my press proofs. The printer suggested that I flatten the image before I send it to them.
    Sometimes I see in on screen and sometimes I don't, but my printer says they see it every time and that it will show up on the proof. I've been trying several different PDF exporting options in ID. We are getting the proofs done correctly, but there's only one guy at my printer that can get the file corrected. I'm not sure exactly what he is doing, but one of the people I deal with suggested that he was opening the file in PS, flattening it again, and exporting to PDF, again.
    He's the boss and not alway around, so I'm trying to figure out how I can get file exported correctly.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Line objects not showing in pdf output in xmlp 5.6.1

    Hello,
    Is there a bug or just a version issue when trying to produce pdf output using xmlp 5.6.1 Enterprise Edition from a template built in xmlp 5.6.2 stand alone? Different versions of pdf too. The xmlp 5.6.1 EE uses Adobe 7.0.7 and I use 7.0.0 for my dpf output. The issue is that the template built using 5.6.2 has line objects in the rtf file. When this template is registered in xmlp 5.6.1 EE and the report is generated the lines don't show up in the pdf.
    Any one?
    Ryan

    I opened a TAR and here is the answer. My template definition was wrong because I directly used my data template xml file to define my template using template builder.
    Here are all the steps to use XML data template under apps.
    To use data templates, do the following:
    1- Create the data template similar to the following structure
    2- Login to responsibility "XML PUBLISHER ADMINISTRATOR" -> Data Definition
    2.1 upload the data template (that is made in step1)
    2.2 Insert a new code that is not find the concurrent request short name.
    3- Login to system administrator -> concurrent -> program -> define (define a new concurrent request as following)
    3.1 use execute XDODTEXE (it takes the data definition in step 2 and shall execute the query to obtain XML output)
    3.2 Output format = XML
    3.3 request short name as that defined in step (2.2)
    4- Add the request to a request group
    5- The the concurrent request and get the created XML output
    6- Use the created XML Output in (step 5) to create your template layout using Template builder vers
    ion 5.5
    7- After creating the template go to responsibility "XML PUBLISHER ADMINISTRATOR" -> Templates
    7.1 define a new template
    7.2 use the same data definition that you created at (step 2)
    7.3 Use the same code as in step (2.2)
    After all the above steps you shall get the output as you wish. The main link between Data template and the concurrent request that execute the data template to generate the XML output is the request short name and the data template code.
    Hint:
    request short name = data template code.

  • Strange artifacts on PDF output (when a line is in close proximity to a box)

    Hello all,
    I am hoping that someone can suggest a solution for this purplexing issue.
    I have a rectangle (actually occurs on similar rectangle image boxes or text boxes) that connects to a line (Japanese Dots). Whenever the line is near the rectangle, their is a faint but noticable white line surrounding the rectangle.
    When I initiate EDIT mode in Adobe Acrobat, it reveals that the PDF output/distilled version is introducing this artifact by separating part of the image into a 'chunk'. The artifact (or white line) is the border surrounding this image chunk!
    Also, it is important to add that if I move the line away from the rectangle, the faint white line vanishes.
    Please see attachment.
    Any ideas about how to fix this?

    Rob Day wrote:
    Either export with live transparency (PDF/X-4) or if you have to distill make sure the Print>Advanced>Transparency Flattener is set to High Resolution.
    Thank you Rob!
    Saving as PDF (even with Trans flattener set to high res) didn't help BUT exporting does work.
    What is the purpose of Save As [PDF] if it doesn't work correctly?

  • Getting a extra space between the line in the PDF output

    I an having the rtf templete contains a table . That table contains 3 row and for the second row i have a for loop start at 1st column and end's at last column . first and 3rd row are the simple data donot have any for loop .
    So in the PDF out put of the templete gives me extra blank line between the data for the 2nd row.
    Example
    1st row ------ Contains data field
    2nd row For Each grouph data fields End for
    3rd row --------- Contains data field
    On the PDF output the data which is in the for loop ( 2nd row ) takes one more extra line ( space ) between the record .

  • Strike through line is not coming up in PDF output

    I have to strike through some data in my report. I tried in design time as well as in run time. In run time I used SRW.SET_FONT_STYLE(SRW.OVERSTRIKE_STYLE) method to strike through the data. It is displaying overstrike line in screen, printer, RTF and HTML outputs, but not in PDF output. Plain data is coming up in PDF format without strikethrough line.
    Thanks

    This works in Reports 6i Patch 10(6.0.8.19).

  • Table borders offset in PDF output

    I am using RoboHelp HTML, version 9 and I need to deliver two outputs for my documentation: WebHelp and PDF.
    My table borders look the way I want them to in WebHelp and Word, single line and thin (1px).
    But when we go to PDF, I get two sets of lines, one all the way around my cells, another with gaps of white space.
    I think its something to do with 3d borders not getting totally eliminated.
    I've added "table-collapse: collapse;" to all my table styles.
    Any ideas?
    Note: If I create a table originally in Word with thin single line borders, it looks fine in PDF.
    Here's how it looks in WebHelp and Word...
    And then in PDF...

    Peter,
    Yes, as I mentioned in an earlier post, I really like the help design on your web site. I researched many looks in preparing for a new stylesheet project. Ended up emulating a lot of your elements rather than reinvent the wheel.
    Hope you are OK with that. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery (definitely in my case).
    Anyhow, I figured out my problem. The CSS for my original tables was using 5px padding all around. In Word output, this gets converted to table cell margins.
    And that's what the PDF conversion doesn't like. Take out the original CSS padding--or the converted Word cell margins--and the problem goes away, leaving clean unbroken table lines in the PDF.
    Best regards.

  • White lines around texts with object effects applied

    I am having a persistent problem with InDesign's output of PDFs when I have applied object effects to text boxes.
    When I use an effect—such as emboss (shown in samples) or outer glow—on a text box, the PDF renders it with white lines around the text boxes (sometimes with more than one).
    See the attached samples; the boxes are clearly visible with a 3rd party PDF viewer, such as Skim; less so with Acrobat Pro, but still there. It's there when I open the PDF in Photoshop, as well.
    I've tried playing with transparency flattening settings, and with merging the layers into a single layer. No help.
    The sample shown has an emboss effect applied, transparency flattening set to high resolution (ignoring style overrides), and a single merged layer.
    Any help?

    Thanks so much, Bob.
    My printer requires that I use the PDF/X-1a:2001 standard for PDF export, which means that it must be Acrobat 4 or later compatibility.
    Also: I don't see how to NOT flatten, when exporting PDF for print; the options for flattening are "low resolution," "medium resolution," or "high resolution"—but there is not an option to NOT flatten. Do you know a work-around for this?

  • How to customize CHM and PDF output

    I can easily generate CHM and PDF using the Generate Output option offered by DITA-FMx, but the output is just standard and I would like to customize it according to the company style. Which files should I work on to modify fonts, colours, indentation, etc, both for CHM and PDF?

    For PDF output, you should be using the Generate Book from Map command. This is one of the main reasons to use FrameMaker for DITA .. the high quality PDF output. You'll never achieve the same level of quality through XSL-FO as you do through native Frame. See this video for info on leveraging DITA-FMx features for PDF publishing ..
    http://blog.leximation.com/2010/03/pdf-publishing-with-dita-fmx-1-1/
    To customize the formatting of any output generated through the DITA Open Toolkit (which is what is used by the Generate Output command), you have to modify the XSL and CSS files in the DITA-OT. The "proper" way to do this is to create an OT plugin that provides you with a custom Ant target that does exactly what you want. You can then deliver this plugin to others on your team who need to generate the same output, and you haven't mucked around with the core OT files. You can also just dive in and tweak the files directly, but when you break something you won't be able to test with the original files without restoring from backups.
    You can start by tweaking the CSS files, but if you need to make structural modifications to the way the HTML is generated, you'll need to do some XSL work. Note that setting the @outputclass value on the DITA topic files, passes that value into the corresponding element in the @class attribute of the generated HTML. This is a good way to allow you to control formatting of specific elements.
    The best place to go for instructions/info on exactly which files to modify in the OT and how to build a plugin, is the dita-users Yahoo group. This is definitely the list to be on for anything that relates to the DITA-OT.
    Scriptorium Publishing has a nice whitepaper on customizing the OT ..
    http://store.scriptorium.com/items/books/hacking-the-dita-open-toolkit-detail.htm
    Also, the dita.xml.org website has some useful info.

  • How to download PDF output forms to presentation server without display

    Hi All,
    My requirement is to download the Sales Order forms and save it in local system.
    I have created a custom program where I am passing a range of Sales Order no, Partner Function, Output type and Application as my input in selection screen.
    Logic:
    I am calling my Sales Order Abodeform using the FM: 'FP_FUNCTION_MODULE_NAME' and thereby I got the function module name of my form.
    Then I am calling the FM:
    Input to the FM:
      ls_outputparams-nodialog = abap_true.
      ls_outputparams-authority = 'X'.
      ls_outputparams-getpdf = 'X'.
      ls_outputparams-dest = 'LP03'.
      ls_outputparams-nopreview = abap_true.
      ls_outputparams-reqimm = abap_true.
      CALL FUNCTION 'FP_JOB_OPEN'
        CHANGING
          ie_outputparams = ls_outputparams
        EXCEPTIONS
          cancel          = 1
          usage_error     = 2
          system_error    = 3
          internal_error  = 4
          OTHERS          = 5.
    followed by,  CALL FUNCTION (FM name)
         EXPORTING
          archive_index        = toa_dara
          archive_parameters   = arc_params
          control_parameters   = ls_control_param
          mail_recipient       = ls_recipient
          mail_sender          = ls_sender

          OTHERS               = 5.
    then ,  CALL FUNCTION 'FP_JOB_CLOSE'
        IMPORTING
          e_result       = ls_result

          usage_error    = 1
          system_error   = 2
          internal_error = 3
          OTHERS         = 4.
    then i am using the below FM to get the OTF data if any available.
    CALL FUNCTION 'CONVERT_OTF'
        EXPORTING
          format                = 'PDF'
        IMPORTING
          bin_filesize          = lv_binfilesize
          bin_file              = lv_bin_file
        TABLES
          otf                   = ls_output_info-otfdata-> i am not sure which data to pass here. i am getting sy-subrc value as 4.
          lines                 = lt_lines
        EXCEPTIONS
          err_max_linewidth     = 1
          err_format            = 2
          err_conv_not_possible = 3
          err_bad_otf           = 4
          OTHERS                = 5.
    Now I dont no how to link the PDF forms to below method.
    CALL METHOD cl_gui_frontend_services=>gui_download
        EXPORTING
          bin_filesize = v_size
          filename     = D://x.pdf
          filetype     =   'BIN'
        CHANGING
          data_tab     = lt_pdf.
    Because in smartforms, we will convert the OTF output to PDF and that value is passed to GUI_DOWNLOAD FM as input (lt_pdf) , whereas in adobeforms the output itself is in PDF so i dont how to retreive the values from adobeforms and pass it to the above FM, so that I can save 'N' no. of sales order outputs in one PDF file.
    Kindly help me out in this.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Karthikeyan G.

    Hi Vishnu,
    I read the GUI_DOWNLOAD FM documentation, if I am trying to download binary type of file, It is mandatory to pass file size.
    In my case, since I am having PDF file, so i don't no how to get the size of the pdf file.
    As you said, if i use Convert_OTF FM, i don't have data to pass to the OTF and LINES tables.
    I am having values of PDF in xstring format in ls_output1-pdf, which i got using the below FM.
    CALL FUNCTION lv_funcname (FM name)
        EXPORTING
          /1bcdwb/docparams  = ls_docparams
          is_vbdka           = vbdka
        IMPORTING
          /1bcdwb/formoutput = ls_output1
        EXCEPTIONS
          usage_error        = 1
          system_error       = 2
          internal_error     = 3
          OTHERS             = 4.
    Kindly tell me what values i need to pass to the FM you mentioned in order to get the size of the file.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Karthikeyan G.
    But still I am not sure, how the pdf output is coming for single input whereas if i give in a range, its failing. In single input, i am not giving binary file size still the output is coming.. but for range its not. Kindly help me out in this.

  • PDF output in character mode

    Hi,
    We are trying to print a XML out put in PDF format using dot matrix printer. The problem is, the dot matrix printer is printing in graphic mode, i.e. each line is printed as two halves. We need each character to be printed as a whole character. Due to graphic mode printing the report is not legible. Suggest some font that can be used in the template which will appear legible in dot matrix.
    Or any other way to print the PDF output in character mode.
    Regards,
    Anupam

    Hi,
    this sounds like a printer driver / firmware issue. I'd suggest to discuss that issue with the printer vendor and maybe get support from them to get the printer working for PDF files.
    Another option is to put some filters in the print queue to convert the PDF into other formats, bitmap or postscript or whatever the printer understands.
    I don't think this is a problem related to BI Publisher, as long as the PDF displays fine on your screen.
    best regards,
    David.

  • Problem with number-fields in PDF Output Using FOP

    When generating PDF Output using FOP as described in the utilitiy provided in the HTMLDB Studio http://htmldb.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=18326:44:12104450162492733947::::P44_ID:1522
    formatted numbers over 1,000 are resolved as characters (because of the comma) and are therefore right justified. This results in alignment issues for numeric columns.
    Does anyone have any ideas on how to work around this.
    Thanks,
    David

    Hello,
    Your probably going to have to edit the xslt to get the result either by stripping out the comma or by setting that column to explicitly align the way you want it.
