Lines around shapes left after resizing or moving
Hi,
Im using a new ipad 3rd gen and every time i use any of the tools for selecting an item from a picture like magic wand or scribble selection the layer leaves an outline of the object once the object has been moved or resized. Am i doing something wrong or is this a bug?
Also please make this app optimized for the new ipad and at least increase image resolutions to the ipad native display size.
Thanks, other than this great app with loads of potential!
Marcel
Hi Marcel,
This is a tricky question to answer. The reason its tricky is that when you create a selection, the quality of the selection edge depends on which tool you used to create the selection and it depends on the pixel colors and composition in your image. Since everyone uses different images with different colors and resolutions, the instructions will be different for each situation.
One thing you might want to try is once you've created the selection with either the magic wand tool or the scribble select tool, tap Select > Refine Edge. Choose a small brush size, and brush along the edge of your current selection to refine it. The smaller the brush size the more accurate you can be. It may help to zoom in on the image to really see the edge refinements as you adjust them. For best results, straddle the selection edge with the Refine Edge brush. Here is where you can find the Refine Edge tool:
I hope this was helpful,
Luanne

I recently had a kernel panic in which I think my hard drive only had so much space left after I ran a bunch of drivers I thought I needed. I uninstalled all and moved files. For some odd reason I'm not getting sound of of my hdtv/monitor.HELP? I uninstalled all the drives and apps I download. I moived files either to trash if not needed, and others to other external drives. I went into disk utility and did a repair disk permission and verify disk. Clean out junk files. Now my hdtv/monitor does not give me any sound, nor does my mac mini. Can someone please tell me what to do?
What drivers?

After importing pictures they became grey with doted white line around
I have imported pictures (RAW CR2 format) from my camera hundreds of times and they all went well. But this time the only the import worked well (I saw the preview when each picture was imported). Then Iphoto asked if i would like to delete the pictures on the camera after import. I deleted them. But then when I should take a look at the pictures they were grey with doted white lines around all of them. When I chose a picture and check the properties I can see that the pictures use normal space. I tried to drag one picture to a directory in the finder but this didn´t work either. The export doesn't work either. When I scroll fast among the pictures I can see them for a short period but when I stop scrolling they will turn grey with doted white line around. Whats wrong? and how to solve?
system: iPhoto11 and Lion. The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

When I render and Export there are these little lines around moving objects
When I render and Export there are these little lines around moving objects, what are they and how do I fix it?
The lines are caused by the video being interlaced.
If you export to DVD they should no longer appear. However, if they don't disappear you can use the Deinterlace filter on the footage whilst in FCE.
How are you exporting ..... QT Movie or QT Conversion ....... and what are you exporting to - the internet or DVD? -
How to get top left stage corner coordinates after resize?
hi,
is there maybe a way to get top left stage corner coordinates
after resize?
or maybe get original stage size before resize? so i can
calculate it.
i know that you can collect the width and height before it is
resized but is it possible after?
--- sorry for the double post ---i donno exactly but try like this ,

How to draw white border(only corner) lines around camera view finder
Hi. You know those white corner lines around the camera view that is found on most camera apps, how do I draw those lines around the camera view? I'm developing a video camera app and now I want to draw those lines to indicate where the camera view finder
is. The white line starts at the top left corner of the camera view(horizontal) then stops about one quarter and starts again at the other side(top right). The same at left, right and bottom side. It shouldn't be a full square/rectangle just the corners. I
think you understand what I'm talking about now. How can I draw just "video camera corner lines"? After this question I want to ask you how to change the resolution like to 176*220, 240*320 ect and what the available resolutions is for capturing
video-clips. For now just the white corner lines of camera view. Thanks in advance:-)How do I draw lines and shapes on top of the camera view finder(cvf)?
+how do I show the battery life bar on cvf?
+how do I programmatically add text on the cvf?
+how do I make a connection request? (connect to a URL)?
+how do I change the resolution of the video camera? What is the acceptable values for resolution?
+how do I listen for touch events on the cvf?

Making a Cut Line, around a vector image.
The job: I have thousands of little vector images i need to put a cutline around.
The solution: I have a little program that will record my mouse and keyboard strokes, repeat said recording as many times as i tell it to, so i can easily automate all the work i have to do.
The problem: I need to find a way (preferably using illustrator only) to more reliably put a cutline around a vector image. Now I know of a few ways to do this, but so far none work across the board on all vector images.
For example: I've tried making a copy of the vector image layer (theres only one layer on all these files) selecting the copy layer, then hitting the Unite button on the Pathfinder window. On most vectors this joins all the segments into one solid object that i can then put just a stroke on and voila, i have a cutline to rename CutContour and I'm good to go. But on some there are stray lines even after hitting the Unite button (i assume just left over from the original artist) and unfortunately cleaning up stray points doesn't clean it up since there short lil trash line segments left over, not just points.
Normally if it were just a few images i would go in and delete them by hand, but i can't do that if I'm automating this. I could maybe rasterize it and get it to work, but i need to keep it a vector to blow up huge later.
There has to be some way after selecting everything on one layer, to then tell illustrator to make that selection one solid object,.. outlined, no lines or shapes inside, filled one solid color, regardless of what it has selected.
Anyone know how to do this?maryjanejungle wrote:
Thanks for taking the time to illustrate that for me, good to know,.. doesn't seem to work with the dino image though, when you offset the line, it just blows up the little stray line segments too, then when you click Unite there still there. Nothing we're doing is actually looking for the outer most edge,.. or if this were photoshop i could fill in an area with a color,.. if it could some how do that, just fill the area solid and treat it as one shape on one layer.
If you expand the appearance and turn it into a Live Paint Group you can color the stray paths so to speak with a stroke of none.
But this might work as well
Copy the art and paste behind
Use the Unite filter in the pathfinder
give the stroke the color of black
then go to Effect>Path>Offset Path
this might work, I did not try this on the dragon and i am afraid I trashed it yu will have to repost the file as it is not available on that download a page.
If yo still have extra paths showing in the toes of the dragon then expand the art turn it into a live paint group with the option to paint strokes and with the Live paint brush stroke it with a color of either none or white.
The Live Paint Bucket becomes a brush when hovered over a stroke is strokes are check as an option for painting. -
Need to add a cut line around text with a stroke
This has been driving me nuts for years and I've often found ways to "kind of" accomplish this, but I figured someone here might be able to help.
Create text, convert to outlines, add a stroke. Ok now I want to add a cut line around that entire thing so it's dye-cut out on vinyl. My cut line is just a stroke with a color defined in my pallet. I can create 2 strokes, but I can't figure out how to get one to go to the edge of the other. I also tried duplicating the image, creating just an outline, but it's impossible to get it exactly outlined by hand.
If I'm not explaining this right, please let me know.
So there I have the text, converted to outlines, white fill and gold stroke. I need to be able to dye-cut this. If you add a new stroke, it's on top of the old one. Basically I want to add a stroke, to the stroke, but only the outside.
Thanks in advance!!Thank you Larry. I kind of followed what you said but I think there's some steps missing here?
I'm glad you showed me how to create additional strokes without creating outlines, I was never clicking above "character", I had to click above it to add a new stroke, if you have the text selected, it's greyed out.
Ok so I created a new stroke, then selected it, went to FX > Path > Offset Path. I chose 0.02 (closest I could seem to get, but not perfect, ok in some areas, bad in others), miter joins set to 4? Are those the same settings you used? You didn't tell me how much you offset yours. Then I selected the offset path stroke and went object > expand apperance, but it didn't seem to do anything? It just removed the offset path FX option on the stroke? This is where I'm pretty confused. Why even do the step after the offset, couldn't I just stop there and print?
After adding a stroke and offsetting
After selecting Object > Expand appearance.
As you can see, like on the C. There is a gap between the cut line and the stroke at the top, but there's no gap on the left side, but there is on the right, and there is on the bottom as well? If I printed this, I would get white fill, gold stroke, and then another white stroke basically.
Thank you for your patience, I'm self-taught but over the last 4 years of using it every day I'm still learning new tricks! -

Whats the easiest way to put a thin line around an image?
Can anyone tell me the easiest way to put a thin line around
an image? I'm also interested in the use of thin lines as part of
the graphic design on a page, how are they generated?
Thanks.oO(cdeatherage)
>In Dreamweaver, you can set a border for each image but
be aware that some

This shouldn't be an issue in any used browser today.
>If it is a consistent look you're
>after, I'd say the most permanent thing to do would be to
edit the image in
>Photoshop or Fireworks. In Photoshop, e.g, I'd create a
background fill with
>the color I wanted the border, then add the image,
centered, in a new layer on
>top of that. Merge the layers, then save optimized for
the web.
Way too complicated. If you want to change the color or style
of the
border, you have to modify the image. With CSS you can
directly change
the line style in a much easier and faster way.

How to change shape properties after having created one?
Photoshop CC 2014 -- latest update as of October 06, 2014
Windows 7
How can I change a shapes properties after having created one.
I have created a simple ellipse.
When I drew the ellipse with the tool, I had the option for the fill color/style and stroke, etc.
After I have created said ellipse, I wish to change its properties.
I can use the Paint Bucket, gradient tool, etc for the fill, but is there way to get back to the original set of tools with which I created the ellipse in the first place?
If I use Edit > Stroke... it adds a new stroke around the existing shape.
If I use Edit > Fill... the entire layer is filled.
There must surely be a way to reenter the tool set to edit an existing shape. No?
Thanks,Hi everyone,
Thanks for the helpful tips, advice, etc.
I didn't explain myself very well--I apologize.
However, with your tips I figured it out:
When I create a rectangle or ellipse, I can later click on its layer and the Properties window appears with options to change their "Live Shape Properties."
However, not so with the Polygon and Shape tools. With them, the Properties window shows only the Masks, but the Toolbar still shows some basic properties I can change.
I was stymied by the above differences while working only on a Shape.
I've attached two JPEG screenshots.
I didn't need to change the actual shape, just the fill/stroke, etc.
Later, I may wish to change the actual shape, but that appears to be done by simply creating something new.
Thanks much!! -
Sound input (line-in) not working after upgrade to Leopard
I have upgraded my iMac Intel Core 2 Duo (white plastic frame version) to Leopard on Friday when it released. The upgrade process went very well with one MAJOR exception: Audio input through "Line-in" connection does not work anymore. I have tried everything that comes to mind so far from rebooting, to unplugging and replugging, to checking back all system settings, etc. Nothing works. At this point, I can't use my headset anymore for making calls with Skype or using voice chat in games. I would seriously need some help as I refuse to have paid $129 only to have Apple themselves break something in their products.
For this reason, I have to currently consider Leopard a failure. Reason being, in MS Windows or Linux, there always is a way around to make things work... I can't find anything at all with this release of the OS.The OP reported their line-in input "broke" after upgrading to Leopard, however my MBP stopped recognising input from the mic on my headset a few weeks ago when I was still running Tiger. This might possibly indicate that the change in OS X's handling of the line-in input was present in a Tiger update, but I can't remember the exact correlation between the dates of my last update and this problem. All the same, I'm pretty annoyed that a headset that worked perfectly for several months is now suddenly unusable without a USB adapter.
Prior to stumbling across this thread, I visited two Apple stores, who both tested with an output from an iPod and told me that the input was working fine, leading me to buy a brand-new headset (even though I'd tested other working headsets without success) which, naturally, produced the same results.
Seems to me that the hardware is fully capable of processing a mic input through the line-in port, as it's never had any problems with any unpowered source until recently, so Apple must surely be able to undo the change they made? -
Weird black lines around windows
Macbook Pro 15in. Mid 2010
Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 288 MB
Software: OS X 10.9.1 (13B42)
Hey everyone,
Whenever I open different apps, (Word, Preview, Reminders, etc.) or when I hover over apps to select them, I get these weird black lines that outline the window. I have reset the PRAM before and it fixed it temporarily, but then it returned. If I go to "displays" and switch from 1440 x 900 to 1344 x 840, and then switch it back, it gets rid of the black lines. Any ideas?? I've included a photo of what it looks like. As you can see, the black lines on the left of the window is what I am talking about. Any ideas or information will be greatly appreciated. EDIT: This did not occur until after I had upgraded to Mavericks when it came out.Hello S:
Welcome to Apple discussions.
i think the cause could have been a finder add-on i used for a while (totalfinder), since it was an alpha build.
Almost assuredly (I will not give a lecture on Alpha or Beta software). Did you uninstall it somehow?
In any event, you have a couple of options.
Easiest first - trash a couple of preference files (com.apple.dock.plist and com.apple.finder.plist) and restart.
If that does not work, I would restore (hopefully you have one) the system to a point before you added the Alpha software.

Odd lines around text in dissolve
Hi Folks,
I have been experiencing some odd lines around text when I am dissolving and can't figure out why. The text is generated from FCP and these lines only appear after rendering. Prior to rendering I can step through the dissolve and all is well. I have tried changing the compressor setting for the sequence to all flavors of ProRes, and even uncompressed, and it has no effect. The only thing that did have an effect was to change to an additive dissolve from a cross dissolve. However this makes the dissolve less linear and unacceptable.
All of the effects handling is being done by Final Cut so there's no third party hardware in the mix. I am running on a 17" MacBook Pro, OS 10.5.8 and FCP 7.0.1 with motion filtering set to best.
Additionally here is a link to an image grabbed from the timeline showing what I am experiencing.

San Diego, CA.I tried the Outlined Text generator and still have the issue. If I add an outline it actually gets worse. I did however try Boris and with that it goes away. This is really odd and I wish I knew what was causing it. For now though I guess I stick with Boris.
Thanks
