Lines disappearing on Master Slide (Bug or User error?)

Hi all -
I'm using the "Magic Move" feature on one of the Master slides from a theme called "Blueprint". When I use Magic Move some of the "permanent" lines from the master slide disappear during the move and then reappear when the move is finished. Any suggestions for solving this problems would be greatly appreciated.

I moved my presentation to several other themes, but the problem seems to extend to those Master Slides as well. All of my elements (photos, text, etc.) come through the transitions just fine, but some of the lines on the Master Slide itself disappear while the transition takes place. It makes the whole thing pointless it the viewer can see this, and there's no way to change the master or stop this from happening. Hopefully Apple will take a look.

Select the master slide,
copy any objects you want to keep,
Select all, (command A), and press delete key.
Paste back the items to retain (Command V)

Timestamp of videos not consistent with photos - appear out of order - bug or user error?

We just returned from Hawaii and, of course, we have a mix of photos and videos. However, subsequent photos and videos taken about the same time, which should have timestamps minutes apart, have timestamps that differ by 4 hours. As I dig into this deeper, it seems all the videos have timestamps 4 hours from what they should be(my view). At a minimum, I believe the photo and video timestamp should be set per a consistent definition.
I am determining this after I imported the pictures into iPhoto. I have done the import several times and the results are consisent.

IMG_0234.MOV - April 6, 2013 11:15:08 PM <----This should be 6:15:46 PM
Tried to verify the timestamp of the video and photo while the picture is on the iPhone…had to buy iPhoto for IOS for $5. The photo timestamp is the same as stated in iPhoto(IOW, IMG_0233.JPG is 6:14), but the video timestamp is just April 6, 2013…no exact time. Guess I wasted $5.

Home Timezone: Chicago - normally GMT-6(4 hour difference from Hawaii), but right now Chicago is GMT-5 due to daylight savings.
My theory is that there is a bug that sets the video timestamp to the 'home timezone', potentially only when 'automatic timezone is set.
This seems easily fixed by doing a batch change to adjust the timestamp on all videos
Any other explanations? I am hoping I am doing something wrong.

2) i just imported a bunch of pictures and videos from an android phone. Same issues. The Android photos seem to be perfectly aligned with the photos from the iphone 5, but the videos are 5 hours off the mark(later). Of course, I want to view the pictures with the time in Hawaii, not Central Time, so the videos are definitely in the wrong from an intuitive standpoint...as I see it.
2013-04-09 11.14.25.jpg - Taken at 11:14am in Hawaii. This data is per the file as it sits in dropbox and viewed by my mac mini Finder. Android puts the file on drop box from the phone, and I imported to iphoto from dropbox. Despite the filename indicating 11:14am, finder says the file was created at 4:14pm. However, iPhoto, correctly puts a timestamp of 11:14am and picture is where I expect it from a time standpoint at 11:14am.
2013-04-09 11.15.05.mp4 - Taken at 11:15am in Hawaii. This was imported into iPhoto via dropbox at the same time, but it is showing up in iPhoto at 4:15pm, throwing off the sorting.
So, now I believe I have an iPhoto issue and probably brought this question to the wrong forum?
I have fixed the problem by doing a 'adjust time and date' to all videos, both from iphone and android, to be 5 hours earlier in time. Now everything lines up, but I am scratching my head why this isn't done consisently between photo and video in iPhoto, and why I have not run into this before.....

ARC mandatory property lost (bug or user error?)

I have a few entities with an ARC relation. In the logincal model one can't set this to mandatory or optional. (as far as I know).
This leads to a annoying issue:
The property can be set in the relation model by clicking on the arc. So far so good.
When I make changes in the logical model and engineer to relational model the mandatory property switches back to optional.
What am I doing wrong?
BTW hope someone reads this
As a feature request it would improve users productivity if one could click the header of the name column in the Property Propagation dialog.
That would make selection much more efficient.

Bug or User Error - Virtual Copy

All,
I'm still on 1.3.1 (still too much dust flying on 1.4.1), Mac OS X 10.4. The situation is as follows: Took a standard RAW image file from Canon 40D.
1. Made a virtual copy of the original, crop aspect set to 8x10, made adjustments, etc. including some spot removal, etc.
2. Made a virtual copy of the virtual copy, converted to Grayscale, "assumed" the crop value and spot removals came with it. Instead, the second virtual copy is showing up with a crop value of 4x5 and the spots removed in the first virtual copy, return.
It is very repeatable, and not associated with a specific image file. I haven't tried it on Windows XP yet.

I've been doing a little more with this. In Develop module, if I make a Virtual Copy of an image where I've used a Metadata preset to add some data to the image, that metadata preset is refected in the virtual copy as well, if I do the same exact thing with the same exact image in Library mode, the metadata is set to None, as opposed to the Preset I used with the original.
I know this is different from what I originally stated but seems odd. Also I'm not sure why you don't consider it a bug, small as it may be. I set the original to 8x10, if I wanted the lower ratio of 4x5, I would have set it to that. If 8x10 didn't matter to Adobe then why have it as an option. In my mind the Virtual Copy should reflect the same choice made on the original.

Live Cycle Form problems - bug or user error?

At work my assistant and I have created an interactive form from an Excel spreadsheet and then proceeded to add drop down boxes in numerous locations on the form. However, when we try to create a pdf in live cycle (8), the drop down boxes pre-populates with the first alpha-numeric character option in the drop down list, instead of a blank space, which is the default state. In addition, the tabbing between the drop down boxes becomes random and I am unable to change them. The form is six pages long, with about twenty to thirty drop down boxes on each page (I think - I don't have the form with me now - on my work computer). Either way - it is a pretty big form. The weird part is that when I split the form in smaller sections (i.e. one page at a time, the problems described above does not happen. I also have numerous other (shorter) forms that work just fine. Is there some sort of size or complexity limitation that is causing this, or is there another way to get around this? The only thing I could do so far to get it to work is to remove the drop down boxes and just make them text entry fields. Any advice would be appreciated.

1. How are you converting from XLSX to PDF. Are you printing the file ato PDF then adding the fields after the fact?
2. I was able to change the tabbing order using the tabbing tool (under the View menu). Moving the fields in the hoierarchy will not affect the tabbing order in this case. By default it is left to right - top to bottom. So if you move the fields on the page then it will affect tabbing order. You really shodul be doing this via the tabbing tool.
3. On teh version that you sent it was showing a blank entry for all DDLists until you selected an item.
Note that I am using version 9 of Acrobat/Reader and version 8.2.1. of Designer.

I got a problem with my master slides. I don't know why, but in some projects (not all), at some point, some objects (not all) in the master slide disappear. They are in the timeline, but we cannot see them in the document window display nor in the published swf.
What's the bug? (I'm using Captivate 5.5)

I totally understand about the visibility on Timeline having no effect on the published output.
Let me try to explain this differently. Consider your Captivate workspace to be like a piece of paper. Perhaps you lay another piece of paper sized identically to the first on top of the paper. That second piece is colored gray. So it would provide the illusion of a gray background. You insert a caption and you see the caption and the gray background. You later insert another image. Perhaps a small photo. Now you see the caption, the photo and the gray background. But what if the photo were the same size as the paper? Then the whole photo would just cover the gray background. That's what I was trying to get at by turning off visibility in the timeline. Thinking that perhaps you have something large that is just covering things up where you cannot see them.

Master Slide Builds Bug? Fix?

USing Keynote 3.0.1 on 10.4.5
When I create a new Theme by creating new master slides with builds built into them I encounter a problem.
On one of my Master Slides (Title & Bullets) I have a title box, an object (Line) and a bullet text box.
I have set the Title to build automatically after transition, then I have set the Object (Line) to build automatically after the first build (Title).
I have then set the bullet box to build the first bnullet automatically after the Object and each bullet on click after that.
This has all been set at the Master Slide level.
When I apply that master slide to a slide within my presentation, the build order changes. The Object builds first instead of the Title. To get the correct order I have to re-apply the master to the particular slide.
This causes much confusion when I distribute the theme to my colleagues who are not as computer litererate as myself.
Is this a known bug? Is there a fix for it?

Why are are you pasting the page number on to other slides when the master slide will place the slide number on all slides correctly formatted? There is no reason to do that.

Why are animations disappearing when I change the time of the master slide?

I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I have Adobe Captivate 6, have had Captivate since it was Macromedia Captivate, and I am just stuck. I imported a .pptx file that a colleague created, and on several pages she has animations. I went through the .pptx and it looks and works fine.
When I import it into Captivate, the animations work fine, but I'm not able to advance each slide until a couple of seconds after it appears. That won't fly with some of the people at my organization who prefer the clickclickclickclick method of reviewing something. When I change the timing of the slide or the clickbox or the master slide, the animations sort of get skipped over.
Can someone please help me?

Master Slide templates are not showing correctly once out of film view

I am having problems with the master view edit within captivate. I have correctly adjusted the slides to fit the design I want, however when I add a new slide with that layout the buttons and boxes are throw all over the place. As well, a lot of the objects I would like to delete in the quiz pages can not be deleted and when trying to change the text for the default correct, must answer questions box..etc I am not able to change this text.

Hmmm, sorry about your frustration but as a daily user of Lynda.com for all kind of applications I find the Captivate courses much below their usual level. And I have commented that way on their site multiple times. There is no good practice, no explanation of proper workflows now about the logic of Captivate. You are not the first user that I helped out after such a 'bad' introduction. If you look at my answers, you'll see that I'm not that harsh usually. Having taught all kind of software applications since over 20 years, it is to me also very frustrating when I see this happening. And sorry, cannot help you with pointing to other tutorials, I never bought any book (had the same reflections when looking at books), nor trainings. I just learned by exploring and helping other users out.
Captivate is a very versatile tool, but learning curve is made unnecessary steep by bad approach in many tutorials. You'll learn recipes in them, nothing about the concept nor the logic. And once you want to change the recipe, you are stuck.
Do you know that in a theme you have theme color palette, object styles (did you ever use the Object Style Manager), master slides and a skin. The playbar is part of the skin. When you go to the skin editor, first tab allowed you to uncheck the playbar, go to the second tab 'Borders', and uncheck also the Borders.
Even terminology is a problem: what do you mean by a toolbar? There is for the moment in Captivate only a Big Button Bar in editing mode (Slides, Themes, Text, Shapes....). The real toolbar disappeared in CP8, was there in previous versions. There is an Align bar remaining, but it is not visible until you show it with the Window menu.

Placeholders on Master Slides in Captivate 5 don't seem to work

Hi I'm very new to Captivate and I am exploring the trial version (5) to learn what it can do.
I am trying to create a project template with a master slide. I have added text caption placeholders to the master slide and saved the file as a project template.
When I create a 'new project from template' using this file I have created a slide based upon the master with placeholders but I am unable to edit the placeholders from the film strip view (they are not clickable, and stay locked). Am I doing something wrong?
There appeared to be a thread about an issue with Master slides but I don't know if this has been resolved.
I'm hoping it's an error on my part (which someone can hopefully correct me on) rather than a bug in Captivate as this would seem to be a pretty fundamental feature when creating courseware.

To really know the power of master slides and templates I should explain a lot more, but in my previous answer I just tried to explain why your approach was not the right one. In a template you can have much more than just a couple of slides with placeholders, you can have typical object styles, advanced actions, user variables etc. It would really need more than a short answer in this thread to explain all that. And that is different from just a blank slide, because placeholders (keeping all introduced styles) will not exist in a blank project, where you would have to insert text to have the proper layout etc.
Master slides can have variables inserted in a Text Caption, or even have a rollover caption that can have variables in it. I tried to explain the use of variables in this article, and there are examples to be used on a master slide:

If you work with stencil slides, indeed the user will have to duplicate stencil slides to use them. Captivate is not Powerpoint, which is meant for presentations on the first place, while Captivate is meant for developing software training, soft skills trainings, assessments and perhaps presentations.

Keynote 6.5 Loses Ability to Copy and Paste Master Objects (Titles, Body) From One Master Slide to Another

This is just a major pain point that I hope is fixed as soon as possible.
In all Keynote 6 versions of the past (and 5), you were able to do the following:
1) Copy a Title or Body object (with proper formatting) from one Master Slide to another.
1a) The slide you would paste it into would have had to have been deleted/unchecked.
2) The pasted Title and Body objects would then assume the role of the Master's Title and Body Boxes
Now:
Instead of assuming the role of the Master Slides Title and Body Boxes, they are simply text box objects. If you were to check "Title" or "Body", the old objects (with probably improper formatting) would still be that slide.

Master slide and object animations

Hi,
I have a problem. If I apply an animation on some object on a slide, when I play the presentation, the objects on the master slide disappear. This doesn't happen if I apply a transition on the whole slide.
I tried to play my presentation on a different machine, a macbook, and there is no problem.
I don't think this is a misconfiguration because if I use two monitor, I can see all the object on the monitor for the speaker, but the problem yet remain on the monitor for the presentation.
Is there anyone have an idea about the reason?

If it is working on a different machine, it may be there is something wrong with your current install of iWork. I would suggest deleting all the iWork preferences files (located in your Library, in Preferences, delete all of the "com.apple.name" files that have "iWork", "Pages", or "Keynote" in their name), and then re-install the software.
As an intermediate step, you might try creating a new user account, and see if the problem appears on that account. If not, I'd suggest deleting the preferences in your original account, as indicated above, and see if that solves things.

Keynote- Master slide

I have a presentation that I want to add alignment guides to the master so I don't have to do it for eash slide. I followed the directions in the users guide but nothing. Is there a solution to building alignmnet guides in the master a have them show on every slide in the group.

Most alignment guides only show up when an item meets their requirements.
For instance, if you place a picture and move it to the space where a guide is, it will 'pop' to the location and hesitate there and the guide will be shown while the object is at the guide line (usually centered, but you have the option to show the guide lines at the edge of an object)
There is no way of having the guides visible at all times on the normal slides. Only the master slides. You won't be able to have them 'show' in every slide based off the master slide, but they will definitely still be available, and will be displayed as needed.

Copy line items from Master Agreement to SubAgreement

Dear all,
As a requirement, we need to create a dummy line item at master agreement and subagreement level to be able to publish them to ERP without need
to complete line items (they are completed in ERP via a development).
We have created master agreement templates with a dummy line item but at subagreement level, templates are not available.

When we try to create an Agreement under a Master Agreement (clicking Add on Agreement tab), following error message is shown related to the line in blue:

Any ideas what is causing the error? What are we missing on our code to copy line items?

We managed to create a line item at VALIDATE script, but not at POST_CREATE. Either it is a bug or it is not possible at POST_CREATE script.
