Lines in Illustrator patterns

Hi! I get fine lines on repeat patterns. This also shows when sending the files an making the textile prints in production! I have searched all forums and can not find a solution! And yes I have a rectangle without fill or stroke placed behind my artwork... Please help!

Hi!
I did a test just now sending a file to my colleague (who is on an older version of illustrator). It turns out the setting is not included in the file. How can I get past this problem when sending files to someone else who will make the print?
Best Regards

Hi!
Now it did disappear on the screen at least. ☺ Would need to know if my supplier who makes the textile print need to make the same setting in her/his program or if the setting in embedded in the file?
Best Regards

  • How do you get edge lines out of patterns that you create?

Brand new at Illustrator, forgive the ignorance.
I was attempting to experiment with the patterns tutorial, and I cannot seem to get rid of edge lines when creating patterns. Please assist if you can.
    Examples shown:

This is a result of screen anti-aliasing (turn it off in preferences and the lines go away). It will not effect output.
You can reduce their annoyance by increasing the size of the pattern swatch.

  • Unwanted lines appear in pattern

    Hi people,
Thx for loooking in to my question, the question follows:
I just started working with patterns, quite simple patterns, but how perfect and how smooth I make the edges still these small lines appear over the pattern.
They appear on screen and print as wel.
I still work with adobe Illustrator cs 11 in windows.
I'm sure one of you guys must have a answer on my simple problem.
    Thx for helping.
    Laurens

Patterns do show stiching lines in-between the tiles at times, but these lines should not print when printed to a PostScript printer. Non-postscript printer will print these gaps as they simply print the screen representation. In such cases it is important to check if these lines are actual pattern flaws or mere screen drawing issues. One good way to verify is by zooming in a stepwise manner. If the gap lines grow thicker with zoom, there is a flaw in the pattern, else it is a screen draw issue.
    Thanks!

  • How to create a Photoshop Pattern with an Illustrator Pattern CS6

I've been creating patterns in Illustrator (because it's much easier to preview how the pattern turns out) but when I bring them into Photoshop, using the offset filter, it only works when the patterns are blocked. It doesn't work if the patterns are bricked or hexed- which I use often in illustrator.
So I decided to try and just create a square in illustrator and fill it with the pattern in illustrator, then copy and paste that square into the Photoshop document. When I do that, I get white lines going through the pattern. Any advice on a way to easily bring Illustrator patterns into Photoshop? I don't even need to create the actual tile in Photoshop- but I'm not sure how to get rid of the white lines.

The white lines was a bug in CS6.  I reported it, and I believe it's fixed in CC.  the pattern maker in IA is much better than what you can do in PS.  The new Deco Scripts add a lot of flexibility.  With the latest release of CC 14.2 a user interface has been added to the Deco Scripts, making it a bit easier to get an idea of what you're doing.  For CS6, I wrote a script that creates a UI, but there is no feedback window.  It does allow you to adjust all the scripts variables without having to edit the Deco script code.  You can try it by downloading it here:
    http://uebelephoto.com/CS6_Fill.html
You will still have the white line issue unless you upgrade to CC.

  • Grid lines in Illustrator

What determines the origin point of the grid lines in Illustrator?
I know that I can control the origin of the rulers, but when I change that, the grid lines do not change, which is quite annoying. I know also that I can change the color and major and minor intervals in the gridlines.
But how do I change the origin?
Puzzled... Any tips would be really appreciated!

I know that I can control the origin of the rulers, but when I change that, the grid lines do not change, which is quite annoying.
Depends on which version of Illustrator you are using.
In recent versions turn on global rulers, then change the rulers origin in order to position the grid.

  • Line to Illustrator : no vector shape

Updated today Illustrator CC & Line, when I send my file from Line to Illustrator I only get a bitmap picture in Illustrator. What's up please, hey guys where are the vector shapes ??? I can't understand what you're doing with those app, there are a lot of app much more easier to use than yours !!! Look at Concep'ts for example, we can can compare it to Line but they offer layers, shapes can be easily moved and file can be send to illustrator and opened in a vector format. It's a shame that this can not be possible with your own app !!!! Sorry but I'm totally disappointed…

Downloaded today the new Adobe draw which replace now adobe Ideas, rulers are are implemented, this is a good thing and you can export vector files to Illustrator.  But strokes are exported as vector forms (like it was in Ideas) so you can't easily move your strokes in Illustrator or adjust their size. We have then tons of app by adobe I understand your marketing thinking to make us use your cloud, but it's now difficult for me to choose between those app, what is the interest of Line between Sketch and Illustrator draw ? And two others app to make shapes and brushes, and one other for colors and and and…………this is a cloudy cloud !

  • Mysterious gray lines on my patterns

Okay, so, I'm pretty new to illustrator so you'll all have to forgive my ignorance. I've created the pattern that i've shown in the image, and when I'm in working on the pattern these gray lines dont appear, but then once i back out and fill a rectangle with my pattern, these gray lines always appear on top. I've noticed they change according to how i organize my pattern. (by grid, by hex, etc). I tried adjusting the rulers. The most frustrating thing of all is that they appear when I export the image. Please help! Thanks!

Turn off "Anti-aliasing" in Preferences to check if the lines are gone then.
If they are, it's just a screen redraw issue.
When exporting in raster based formats, select "Art optimized" method.

  • Can I crop painted lines in Illustrator using pathfinder?

    Hi everyone,
This is a question from a total Illustrator newbie but I've been Googling like mad to no avail, so any help would be much appreciated!
I'm experimenting with creating seamless patterns using shapes. I know how to crop shapes using the pathfinder tool.
I can do this by placing different shapes on top of a square. I then paste a square of the same size in front of all the objects, select all then and use the crop tool in pathfinder.
However if I try to use it using painted lines (or lines created with the line tool or the pen tool) it won't work.
Is there a way to do this or am I missing something very obvious? Thanks to anyone who takes the time to answer

You need not cut the objects you put into a pattern swatch. It will be sufficient to put an invisible rectangle in the back. But in case you want to cut them, first Expand appearance.

  • Missing parts of lines in illustrator while they are visible with a pdf viewer

    Hi,
I have encountered this issue in a pdf file that I generated using my R (statisitcal language) scripts. The file contains 3 smoothed but wiggly lines where parts of a few lines vanish when I open the pdf file in illustrator. Opening the same pdf in any pdf viewers turns out perfectly however. I need to further edit the pdf file for publication purposes, so having parts of the plot missing makes this a headache. I've done other plots before with R, which can be edited in illustrator perfectly. Please help me solve this if you have any ideas.
My file looks like this in pdf viewers:
In illustrator it looks like this:  This is the case for both CS2 and CS6
There was a similar query previously, but the problem didn't seem to be solved. Please help.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/495432

Too many data points comprising the lines. If you use the Document Info panel and choose Object from the flyout menu with one of the lines selected you will find that there are 32,000 points listed. This ia a maximum for a single path in AI. You will have to either filter the data or do something to reduce the number of data points.

  • Disappearing line in illustrator

    Hiya,
I have inserted a psd file image into my illustrator document which I am creating and when I save it as a PDF one of the lines doesn't appear correctly. The line is still there but it is really faint. Do you know why this is? I am new to illustrator!
    Thank you.

I am saving it as a low res pdf because it needs to be a small file size for an e-blast. I just tried saving it as a high res and the line came back so obviously this was why it was not there! Guessing there is no way to keep it as a small size pdf and achieve the look I want then?

  • How to fix lines in Illustrator

Hi! I need some help to fix some lines on a CNN logo made in Illustrator.
If any pros out there have a couple of minutes to fix the lines so that the curves are more smooth, I need it for my computer class.
Its a CNN and a Coca Cola logo.
I would be very grateful to anyone willing to smoothen the lines. The logos are already made, it just has to be smoothed.
Cheers to the Adobe user community, have a nice day:)

Thanks in advance to anyone who will fix these two logos. You will get +1 in your good karma:)
Then I only need to draw an animal in Illustrator and paint it, that I will try doing alone:)

Just a few words in addition to what John and Joe said (I am still with 10, so I could only open the file as PDF, and had to leave for quite a while):
The Direct Selection Tool and the Convert Anchor Point Tools may be your friends; the former may be used for adjusting handles, too, and (since you have Live Paint which allows sloppier path building) it allows Joining of open end Anchor Points.
Edit: I hope we shall not have the rest of the class here soon.

  • Illustrator - Pattern Swatch / Clipping mask issue

I'm currently working in Illustrator CS6. I'm creating pattern swatches and have successfully created 20 - but 4 are giving me the following issue.
When I drag the perfect swatch tile into swatches it appears as so instead of the perfect tile:
"New pattern swatch 3" has a white space on the right. Which sometimes when I create the swatch takes up half of the 'swatch.'
When I go to create a shape and apply the pattern, I am left with an empty box.
When I double click to adjust the pattern I get this dialog box:
When I go to adjust the bounding box, to see where my pattern is - this crazy mess happens:
Further investigation and deleting items to see whats happening:
Bits of my pattern appear, but not sure why the other bars are there.
I'm having this issue with four very different patterns. But I have also succesfully created more complicated ones. Not sure why this is happening.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Hey everyone,
I am in the same version, same file. I have also tried starting from scratch in another file just to make sure. Same issue.
I have templates of what i want my patterns to be, so I have tried to make the patterns both ways. Starting from my original art - expanding all shapes and making them so they will tile perfectly.
    1. with clipping mask. 2. released mask, and expanded shape. 3. perfect tile.
from scratch, made to tile perfectly.
    Same issue for both:
To make sure it wasn't only this one I tried a different pattern that was giving me the same error before hand.
I tried with original art which didn't work, so I quickly recreated with squares. Same tile, one time it was empty producing same issue as above. And second time it did this:
    1. What tile is supposed to look like       2. Tile applied to shape - but the pattern swatch icon is empty?
Maybe this is a program bug?

  • Draw line in illustrator cs2

    hi,
i am new to adobe illustrator cs2.
is there any other method to draw line other than s
    setEntirePath().
    thanks in advance,

    Hello David,
It sounds to me like you're witnessing the double edged sword of an incredibly sharp display. The contrast and clarity of LCD displays makes it very easy to see razor-thin lines with ultra fine definition, but this comes at a cost.
Font smoothing (a.k.a. font aliasing) is one example of where most LCDs are so sharp that most people prefer to have their text "fuzzed" up a little bit.
A one pixel wide diagonal line is another example that you've discovered - the display is so sharp that there is no blurring around the "steps" of the line. You can see every change in gradient, because as sharp as your CRT might've been, it was blurring the line just slightly - enough to enhance the illusion that your diagonal line was a line rather than a series of adjacent "steps". No software package that I know of has bothered to implement "line smoothing" yet, probably because you need the detail for accuracy when putting lines together.
Sort of related to this, big screen HDTV plasma and LCD monitors look amazing in the store when tuned to an HD station, but most people would be floored if they say how grainy and pixelated a standard cable signal looks on the same display. It's literally like watching an old VHS tape, because the display is so sharp it resolves detail that is invisible on a "lesser" display.
Neat human trick: get used to working with your LCD, and then go back to the CRT if you have a chance. How does the CRT look? I thought I needed glasses the first time I switched back!

  • Pixelated lines in illustration

    Hi,
I've made a technical drawing in Adobe Illustrator. I've used the PDF-format. Below I've inserted a screenshot of the PDF. The lines of the left hand & hammer are looking pixelated when I see the PDF on screen in Adobe Acrobat. When printed the lines are sharp. I want them to be sharp on screen also. What can I do?
    Thx,
    ief

    Buy a better screen?
Your view on the screen is limited (per definition) by its resolution. Computer programs try to fool the eye into seeing sharp lines by heavily blurring them with the surrounding pixels ("anti-aliasing"), and the idea is you shouldn't be seeing individual pixels.
Different software have different ways of drawing vector images, though, and different antialiasing algorithms -- there is not a "best" solution.
Apart from that, it's also possible your Acrobat settings are not optimal. Look in your preferences for a setting called "Smooth line art", and experiment with that to get the best results (for your screen only -- it's a user preference).
