Lines in LCD TVs

I've noticed quickly disappearing lines during fast action (mostly in cartoons) in my new LCD TV.   Anyone had this problem?

What's the source of the content you're watching?
Is it standard def analog channel on cable, it's likely interlacing.
If it's standard def digital - it might be interlacing, depending on if it's a 480i signal or 480p - could be both
If it's high def digital - Could be interlacing if it's a 1080i signal and not 720p.
If the source of your content is a PC playing the video back, PCs can sometimes produce a type of artifact called "tearing" during video playback.  This is a software/programming bug - try a different media player application.  Media Player Classic - Home Cinema Edition adds additional anti-tearing features, although regular MPC is pretty good to begin with.

  • E90 Horizontal Black Line in LCD Cover Display

Recently noticed a small black horizontal line in E90 cover LCD display. Line was getting longer and shorter througout the day. Sometimes stretching across the entire width of the display. Updated the phone's software but no use. Nokia Careline advisor suggested removing the battery, SIM card and memory card for 15 minutes, but this did not help either. In the end, took the phone to the Nokia Care Centre where they admitted this is a common hardware problem with Nokia displays. They even have a problem code associated with this 'Black line in LCD'. Phone is under warranty and is with them for repair.
    Solved!

Phone back from repair and line is gone. Not sure what they did!

  • The dock indicator lights look fairly dim on the MBA display, but bright on external displays (LCD TVs for example). Any fixes?

    (MacBook Air mid-2012)
As stated in the title, I've noticed the indicator lights on the dock which represent an open/running application looking fairly dim as opposed to the previous dock design in Lion. After a little look around on the internet, there are some others who are having a similar issue, but I've noticed that upon connecting the laptop to external displays (monitors and LCD TVs), they look extremely bright and noticeable on that particular screen.

https://discussions.apple.com/message/19126554#19126554 This thread appears to address the same issue, yet its odd how the dock "raises" if connected to an external display in my case. I'm considering locating the image files used to display the dock indicators and photoshopping them to be brighter.

  • Poor visual quality connecting PB 15" to LCD tvs ( both HD and non HD)

I can connect my 15 " G4 PB to both my LCD tvs - one is a 19" non HD Sharp Aquos, the other is a HD 37" Sharp Aquos-
however, the visual quality is terrible- no matter what res I choose, mirrored, non- mirrored, - the fonts are fuzzy are totally illegible, making the operation essentially useless- even the screensavers and desktop pictures, icons etc. are very fuzzy
I know I have the right wires, connections etc.- the on screen action follows exactly what is on my pb- for example, opening files, etc. but the visuals are horrible-
I have browsed the posts but none seem to address this particular issue-
any suggestions would be of help-

OK, that's what I thought. Of all the ways you can connect to a TV or monitor, here is the quality from best to worst, from top to bottom:
HDMI/DVI (computer display quality via digital)
VGA (computer display quality via analog)
S-Video/component (TV display quality via analog)
Composite video (TV display quality via analog)
You are using the second worst type of connection. Nice TVs often have VGA, DVI, or HDMI ports, which can carry the high, sharp resolutions produced by computers. S-Video is but a step up from VHS videotape quality and can only be fuzzy. Technically, S-Video is only around 640x480, a fraction of what your PowerBook screen can do.
Check your TV ports again. If it has DVI, you can connect with your PowerBook's DVI port and the quality will be the best it possibly can. If there is no DVI but there is HDMI, then you can get a DVI-HDMI adapter and the quality should be just as high. If those two aren't available, look for VGA next, the quality will be good but not best. You can use the DVI-VGA adapter that came in the box with your PowerBook.
Going out the S-Video port is a last resort. I have an old TV that only takes composite video through the S-Video port, if I use the S-Video-to-Composite adapter that came in the PowerBook box. Going all the way down to composite video is the absolute last resort of all. (I'm saving up for a new TV!) However, S-Video might be the only way to connect to an affordable non-HD set.
One last thing: If you're mirroring the displays, the two resolutions must match. But if you're using extended desktop mode, the best resolutions to use are to set each display to its native resolution.

  • Vertical thin blue line on LCD

Is there an easy fix to get rid of this line on my screen? it's about 3 inches in from the left of the edge of the screen, running the full-length top-to-bottom. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

It seems there has been quite a number of bad runs on the 12" powerbook and ibook screens, my powerbook did'nt have one, but it does now and it is usually a defective lcd panel
you can find lots of them on ebay for about 40 bucks that were pulled from ibooks. I bought a screen with a line running horizontally about 2in from the bottom to replace my original screen which was shattered. New screens are about 400$ so a little line does'nt bother me as much as not having a computer. That being said, I have seen this problem out there , and it stays with the screen not the computer. Also note the commonly defective model is a Samsung LTN 121S04-A2C2 these were in some ibooks. The powerbook screens are usually Philips LP121X04-C2 and have an inverter cable that is two inches longer, making it dificult to find a replacement unless you do'nt mind cutting and splicing wires.

  • Can we make a list of compatible LCD tvs?

    Hi
Can people who succesfully got Plasma or LCDs to work with there mac mini please post the model numbers, prices and resolutions.
It would realy save people like me time in shopping and avoid risks in getting the wrong one.
Thank you so much in advance

good idea. do you mean PPC mini or INtel mini?????
don't think it matters. essentially what you want to do is look at the resolution of the TV.
I would shoot for either 1280x720 or 1920x1080. Those are both HD resolutions.
Some Plasmas run at a funky 1377x932 or something. Those resolutions are whack!!!!
Search for 720 or 1080 and you'll be good.
some TVs will display a black band around your display. that would suck.

  • Vertical lines on LCD - Black screen, goes white, fades to black again.

My 1Ghz G4 15" Imac is having LCD issues. It is in perfect working order, boots, runs fine on an external monitor via the adapter in back. I've read tons of issues with the black screen, but this sure looks a lot like a damaged cable issue, similar to an iBook when it starts to fail from wear. When the iMac is started, the LCD backlight comes on, the screen stays dark with the exception of a row of vertical lines starting about 2" over from the left edge, they appear to be 1 pixel wide and there are enough to make a 2" or so 'stripe' Each line is a different color, and they aren't the same from restart to restart. If the iMac goes to sleep the LCD shuts off and upon waking it shows the lines again, only the LCD will gradually 'bloom' full white (except for the lines) and then gradually recede to a purple, then black again. There does appear to be some damage at the base of the chrome stalk where it goes into the unit, with the seam split open slightly and the metal bent.
Seeing as how it's otherwise fully functional, and the LCD isn't cracked or otherwise 'dead', could it be a bad cable connection? Ideas? Thoughts? resetting PRAM and NVRAM did nothing, but again it works fine with an external hook up.
    Thanks in advance!
    IMAC G4 1GHZ 15"   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

MacBook Pro (Early 2008): Dark bands showing intermittently on built-in display
MacBook Pro: Distorted video or no video issues .  The affected computers  were manufactured between approximately May 2007 and September 2008.

  • Horizontal lines on lcd monitor

    Hello all,
Our less than 2 year old 21.5" Intel Imac (OS 10.6.8) started to display horizontal lines at the bottom portion. Those lines are always present at the same position. They have been gradually invading the screen rendering it soon unuseable. Otherwise the Imac is functionning flawlessly. The computer is installed in a clean domestic area with no heat source in proximity.
I have completed the harwhare test application on startup to confirm that all components (including the graphics card) are functionning perfectly.
I have also taken a screen capture (shift-cmd-3) and sent it to my well functionning Macbook. The screen capture picture of the Imac is flawless. This would indicate by deduction that the LCD screen is flawed.
Is there by anyones knowledge a fix to this rather premature problem?
    Regards
    Marc Arsenault

Same happended to me, just call to support center and thay said there`s no such failure  on their data base, and that i have to fix it my self, this folks only care about their wallets they don't care about customers.

  • Lines on LCD and a Weird Thing

Today, after I've applied the invisibleSHEILD to my iPod Touch I started to notice lines or streaks on the screen. There's about 8 of them and at different angles I see different colors. Such as the one that runs right across the music App. At one angle it's light orange and light brown and at another it's dark orange and dark brown. They're happening every where. When I turn my iPod completely off they're still there but instead they're in shades of gray. So I supposed that it's the liquid from the invisibleSHEILD but the lines stop at the end of the clear part of the glass, not the black part.
As for the weird thing after I finished putting on the invisibleSHEILD I could push the bottom-left corner of my iPod Touch screen into the device almost a millimeter. All the other corners were fine and stable. The screen was actually going inside!

  • Vision M 30GB started showing horizontal white lines over LCD

Everything was perfect since couple days ago. I have taken out my creative Zen Vision M 30G from its case then turned on and seen that all over the screen covered with horizontal white lines. Nothing has happened to the player. Not dropped or put it under heavy things or etc.
I resetted used recovery tool and re-install firmware but nothing had helped.
I am in Turkey right now but I have bought it from USA.
I contaced with Creative support and they do not want to do anything such as repair or replacement because I have had my player little over 3 years as of now (EOSL). But my player has used really gently it even has its original screen protector on it.
I did not cause this it was just happened out of nowhere...Lots of other comments and topics show that it is a some kind of harware mulfunction that the creative should stand behind.....
    Any help or idea....

  • Help! N95 8GB Horizontal Lines on LCD Screen getti...

I was getting a few horizontal lines across my screen of my N95 8GB. Switching the slider from portrait to landscape doesn't change the direction of the lines.
The lines have been getting progressively thicker to the point where now it's hard to read anything on the phone.
Do I have a dying screen?
I've take the slider apart, detached and reattached the screen and ribbon cable connector, and it doesn't make any difference.
Should I buy a replacement screen or is there something else that could be wrong? The rest of the phone functions perfectly fine.

    Nokia N95 (A6.02)

    Hi calciumicon,
It would probably be best to have your device checked by a Nokia Care point. From what you describe it might be the screen needs to be replace. The N95 is a model which has been out of production for a while though so check to verify it can still be repaired.

  • Dots/lines on LCD Screen

A few days ago, I noticed a dark gray/black dot on my screen.... ran a few "pixel fix" programs to no avail and decided to take it in.
Today, the dot is still there and there's also a line (kinda looks like a hair) but it's not on the surface. I have an appt. at genius bar Monday. Should I lobby to have them replace the screen???
    Thanks.

    Genius replaced screen. Thanks AppleCare.

  • Cant enter LCD Bist. Have Loads of Changing vertical lines on lcd screen.

I have classical problem on Pavilion DV6 laptop with LDC-problems. Screen is full of vertical lines changing with each frame.
Different forums advice to try  a BIST TEST. but cant enter. Not by starting while holding "fn" or "D". What to do?

    BangL,
Try updating your graphics driver and BIOS version. Here are the drivers for your computer, install the graphics driver first then once that has completed do the BIOS.  When you update the BIOS please have the AC adapter plugged in throughout the process.
When you do the BIOS install, do version F.21 dated 09-27-2011. Once that is done see if the lines still show.
Please respond back at your earliest convenience.

I'm using a nokia N95 Finland Made Phone.
Yesterday i noticed a small black line in the display. Then after few hours the length of the black line was increased. Still its increasing but in a very slow manner, intially i thort it was a virus i used kaspersky to scan but no virus found, then did hard reset, no good
Please Help me to fix this problem
    Thnxx in advance.

The alternative is to leave the screen as it is, with the black line.
This is a hardware failure. You can't fix it by pressing a few keys.
