Lines in rasterized pdf (PS CS6)

After opening pdf in photoshop CS6 (win 7 64 bit)  there are thin (1 px) horizontal and vertical lines.
Pdf was created by distiler from PostScript from InDesign (InDesign -> PostScript -> Distiller -> pdf).
Same pdf rasterized in photoshop CS4 does not produce this lines.
Is this a bug?

We have tried with some success to use the Flattener Transparency preset in Indesign.
Select Edit and go to Flattener Transparency Presets. Create New and use the settings I have used:
I have called it PSD Transparency 25%, but you can call it what you want.
Now when you export the PDF, go to the Advanced dialog and in the Transparency setting, select your PSD Transparency 25% preset that you created.
The Adobe PDF Preset will say modified afterwards. If you click the Save Preset button in the bottom left, you can save this PDF Preset. Now instead of selecting the PDF/X-1a:2001 preset when you export the PDF, select your newly created one instead and it should remove the stitching artifacts.
If you find you still have some stitching problem, then in the Transparency Flattener Presets, move the slider down towards the left (rasters) side a bit more to see if that solves the problem. You can overwrite or rename the Transparency Flattener Preset.
Hope this helps some of you.

Simon

You can't, no, and no. Acrobat is not a word processor, and trying to use it as if it is will lead to enormous frustration and disappointment. Maybe you need to convert this document to Word if you want to do this sort of editing, but don't expect fancy layout to be preserved.

  • Problem in the exportation to PDF (Indesign CS6)

Problem in the exportation to PDF (Indesign CS6):
Page with 3 layers: 1st background image, 2nd semi-transparent white square, 3rd text in color black.
It looks OK in Indesign, but when exporting, in the PDF file the letters are not black, they are gray. What could happened? I've tryed already the obvious solutions (the order of layers is OK, restarted the PC...)
    Thank you in advance.

the default [Black] swatch (0/0/0/100 in CMYK)  really is a lighter color than a rich black mixed from four CMYk ink, or 3 RGB colors. It would be pretty unusual to see a black background in an image that wasn't a mix.
Do you have the preference in ID for Appearance of Black set to Display All Blacks Accurately? That will show you the difference in ID on screen as well.

ps.  Wow, what a user UNFRIENDLY site this is!

In most cases you can just select the text and copy/paste. You can do that unless the file is a picture/scan.

How can I save a PDF in CS6 and open in CS5 and still have editing capabilities?

I don't think there are version options when saving as a pdf, but as you may know you can save ai documents for previous versions. Have you tried opening a pdf created in CS6 in CS5?
The following image appears after you hit Save in the first menu.

  • I can't select lines in a pdf ? illustrator has already selected a series of blue rectangles that prevent me from select?

Hi there, I'm new to illustrator I have been using it to change line weights in pdf's. however the last time i imported a pdf it opens with a series of blue selection boxes which prevent me from selecting individual lines. any ideas? any advice would be much appreciated. Rowan

^^Larry could be on to something there...
    Or...
It's likely you're trying to deconstruct a PDF that wasn't saved by/for Illustrator, so its contents are nested within clipping masks.
With one or more of those blue boxes selected, choose Object > Clipping Mask > Release

I would like to cut and paste information from a word file onto a pdf file, as well as draw lines onto the pdf file.  How can I accomplish that task?  Is there software I can purchase?

    Hi jgallu7382,
The latter is easily accomplished using the Drawing Markup tools, which are available in both the free Adobe Reader, and in Acrobat. Copying/pasting text into the PDF is something that you could do using the editing tools that are available only in Acrobat. Note, however, that Acrobat isn't intended to be a text-editing application, so editing there won't be as robust as in an application designed specifically for that purpose. (It's also worth mentioning that you won't be able to alter a PDF if it has document permissions applied that would prevent you from doing so.)
I hope that answers your questions.
    Best,

  • Contour Cut Line on Rasterized Image

I am trying to create contour cut lines on rasterized images using Illustrator CS4. I have been changing the PNG files to TIFF files and saving with preserve transparency and then placing them in Illustrator. From there I live trace  a copy to make a vector outline of the image, but I am uncertain what to do to make it so that I can upload my file into FlexiSign, make contour lines from that file, print, and cut. Everytime I save the file into AI format and bring it into FlexiSign it just contour cuts a rectangle around the image instead of making an actual outline of the picture.

Did you expand the trace first?

  • Horizontal lines on a pdf

I have some pdfs that were created from an
image file (cal) using MaxView. When viewed on my
old computer (Acrobat 7.0) the pdf apears fine. When view on my new computer
which has Adobe 9 there are 6 evenly spaced horizontal lines. They also
show up on printed copies. Is there a setting I need to change to correct this problem.

Me too! Just yesterday, Aug. 4!
I get horizontal lines about 0.4 inches apart on the prints, but no lines on the PDF on the monitor. They just show up on the print.
It happened the day I ran malware and virus scans in the morning.
It only affects prints from PDFs created by SolidWorks.  WORD documents print fine.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled my HP printer software.
I did the repair for Adobe reader 9.3.3
I even changed my ink cartridges that were low.
    What else can I try?
What caused this? Is it because our names are Paul?
I tried to contact Adobe without spending $39, but was unsuccessful. I thought maybe they would like to know about problems. Is the forum the only way to do that?

  • PDF Export CS6 InDesign

Since we started exporting PDFs from InDesign CS6, the page information line (at bottom of PDF page) shows only arabic numerals. Our i, ii, iii or a, b, c section numbering appears as 1, 2, 3 . . .  How do you correct this, if possible?

Not sure what the preview mode has to do with it.  That doesn't show anything outside of the trim box.
When exporting, the page info will start the first section with 1, 2, 3, etc.  Then the 2nd section starts over with 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.  I tried even in CS4 and it's the same.
If you postscript and distill, the page info at the bottom is correct with i, ii, iii, iv, 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.
It looks like it's this way in all versions of ID.

  • Dash lines causing weird PDF

Hi, I have this FREEHAND MX file which uses the font DAX
(converted to paths). There is a dashed line in the layout.
After exporting the file as MACINTOSH EPS, I have distilled
    it on ADOBE DISTILLER 6.0.
In the PDF file all the "I" and "L" letters became dashed.
Most weird of all, if I use different patterns of dash for that
line, the "I" and "L" letters immitate it.
The same MACINTOSH EPS can be rasterized in PHOTOSHOP. In
    that case, with normal results.
I can send JPEGs illustrating the effect, if anyone wants it.
    Thank you for any ideas.

I looked at your files. That has to be one of the strangest
    thing I've ever
seen in FH. The same thing happens here when printing to
    Postscript file and
Distilling. It looks like a striped fill rather than a dashed
    stroke is
being applied, but as you say, it picks up the size of the
    dashes in the
    stroke.
I'm glad the AI CS2 route works for you. I had saved the FH
    file back to
FH9, opened that in Illustrator 10 and saved as PDF. The same
    striped
letters were present in the PDF!
A few things corrected the error -- making each line of
    lettering into a
composite path, or changing the dashed stroke to a solid
    stroke, or changing
the fill of the lettering to a different color, or distorting
    the shape of
    the letters.
Because the letters affected are perfect rectangles which, in
    the font
creation software, may have been drawn with a rectangle tool,
    they may have
some kind code attached that conflicts with FH's Postscript
    code for dashes.
Does this happen every time you use this font?
Have you seen this happen with any other font?
It would be interesting to contact the font designer and let
    him know what's
    happening.

  • Problem rasterizing PDFs

I put multiple pdfs onto the photoshop CS5 application icon to rasterize them, i get the first window to ask me the dimensions, resolution etc, them the first pdf opens and then photoshop stops. Until i type «ESC» or OPEN NEW DOCUMENT and then CANCEL, and only then photoshop pops me the window for the next pdf in line to be rasterized.
This is a problem that comes and goes, i wonder if its a preference somewhere or what. Usually after the first pdf is open, the next window pops and so on, until all myy pdfs are open in photoshop.
I have talked to other people and seems that this problem also appears sometimes in CS4

  • Glitches when Rasterizing PDF Files?

Hi, I'm having issues with Photoshop 5 when rasterising pdf files on a new iMac running OSX 10.6.6. Small glitches, like lines appear in certain areas (see images below) When I rasterised the same file on another older iMac running OS 10.5.8 and Photoshop 4 it rendered correctly. Any ideas what may be causing this and any solutions/work arounds?
    With glitchwithout glitch

    Uhhhh,
specially in a printing environment you should avoild rasterizing any PDF. This is the worst way you can go:
Are you aware about text and vectors which are rasterized become blurry?
Are you aware that 1c-black becomes 4c-black
Are you aware that a pdf can contain different color spaces and profiles?
All this information causes in bad printing quality. Please, don't use PS to rasterize PDFs. If I would realize that my printer is doing it, I would stop any cooperation with him and I would also cancel any open orders and consider to request money back for all other orders. (I would realize it with the first delivery I get it.)
