Lines on my iPod nano screen?

I was listening to my iPod nano 4th generation when two white lines appeared across the screen. I charged it to see if it would get rid of them, but when I removed it from the cable the next morning the lines had multiplied, and the screen was completely covered with blue and white lines, vertical and horizontal. It still functions properly, but the screen is covered with so many lines you can barely read anything. I tried resetting the iPod and restoring to factory settings, but the lines still remain. I've even let the iPod run dead, and when I pick it up some of the lines appear to be gone, but in a few minutes they appear again. I purchased the iPod two months ago, so it's still under warranty. If I took it to the Apple store would the charge anything for repair, or is there another way I can solve this problem?

They would charge you for the repair.
It might be a good idea to let the iPod's battery fully drain. Then charge it back up and restore it once more in iTunes or work through all of the 5 R's of troubleshooting again.
Otherwise, it's likely a hardware issue with the iPod's LCD display, meaning you'll need to take or send your iPod in for service either via Apple or a third party repair service. Here is Apple's repair pricing.
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
Note that they don't actually repair the device, but exchange it for one of the same generation, model, and capacity.  A third party service will actually replace the damage part for a little less.  Google "iPod screen repair" and you should get a number of results to work with.

  • Ipod nano screen

Can anyone please tell me - ( I have spent many hours on the apple website looking for contact details of a real person; but no good )- what to do with my IPod Nano screen that does not work. It is not cracked but is very bright, unreadable and seems to have gibberish on it.
I have tried the RESET trick but can see nothing on the screen.
I live near DUBAI and nobody will talk to me about the problem. I won the thing in a competition last December and it only worked for a few weeks.
Please help me Obeonekinobe, you're my only hope.

    Hi Goofy Goat,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you have done some great troubleshooting for your iPod nano that is not responding. In this situation, if resetting it did not resolve, I would suggest restoring the iPod back to its factory settings and then sync your content back onto it from iTunes. Please use the following article as a resource for restoring.

  • Huge Ipod nano screen problem

I have a big problem with the iPod Nano screen. It just doesn't work. I have tried reseting the ipod, restoring it but it just doesn't work.
It is not a screen problem because when I plug it on to the PC the screen lightens up with just white on it.
I could listen to the song by "blindly" selecting Shuffle. But now I can't even do that.
I would REAALY appreaciate any help.

If you can get one sent or brought down to you, you can replace it yourself It is not that hard to do, or I am sure you can find someone to do it for you. I live in Mexico and it is hard to get parts to us, there is also no repair place close, but we have people come from the states every once and awhile and they bring us parts so we can repair our own. Go on ebay and you will find screens for under 15 dollars U.S. and it comes with the tools that you will need to open your nano. Hope this helps.

  • Ipod nano screen completely messed up

I've noticed recently that my Ipod nano screen has become totaly messed up, i can only see the top half of it,where it says Music, Photos, etc. and even that is all deteriorated, whilst the bottom almost look's like a barcode. Although i can still listen to music, volume is inacessible.
Could some one please help me on this, i just got this recently by winning it from a local radio station and I dearly love it, help would be appreciated.
PS: this is not something physicly on the screen or the result of a scratched screen, it's the actual inside, where the song information etc. is viewed.

According to the Tech Specs (http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html) Windows 98 isn't supported - could that be the answer?
    Windows system requirements
    * PC with USB port or card (USB 2.0 recommended)
    * Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 or later, or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later

  • My 2nd generation iPod nano screen is showing lines and I cannot see the whole menu. How can I fix this problem?

I believe that my wife disconnected the iPod nano (2nd Gen.) improperly and now the screen has a whole bunch of lines. I can see the screens moving when I move to the next screen. But it's just lines. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

well unfortunatley your warranty is over so the device is not covered,  BUT sounds like you have interupting signals being sent from a stuck home button constantly being pressed and maybe even a digitizer problem (the touch screen).  You can try to restore your ipod to your computer to see if it might be some kind of software related issue.  Just restore to the last sync you have on iTunes.  But FIRST...I would try to Reset your ipod.
Go to Settings>General>Reset> Reset all settings.

  • Ipod Nano Screen Has 1/2 Inch Horizontal Line Of Odd Pixels

I took my ipod nano on a backpacking trip way up in the canadian rockies. We camped in a tent and my ipod was exposed to below freezing temperatures and possibly high humidity conditions (it rained but the thing never got wet--it is also in a case). After one night i tried starting my nano up and it didn't start the first few times. I realized that it was extremely cold and i warmed it up in my hands for a while and it turned on after a few minutes.
I thought everything was fine a dandy, but a look at my screen made my heart fall: in the middle of the screen, where there was supposed to be writting, there was white. What do i do? Investigate.
I have never really experienced anything like what my ipod is doing, but i only have experience with things like gameboys or psps. Pretty much, when i turn on my ipod, this horizontal bar of "odd" pixels appear a bit darker, and resemble the very first picture/text the ipod displays (pictures in color, white, or text). It looks like the stuff is severely smudged with with something like a picture editor (Photoshop, for instance). To bring more oddness to the table: it doesn't stay like that (it isn't frozen)
On the first time (up in the mountains) it changed to white within a fraction of a second, but as time went on the length of time before that bar turns to pure white lengthens. Nearly a week later, the length of time is nearing a half minute and is becoming less smudged looking. I may also note that it turns to white gradually.
Everything else works just fine . I'd really appreciate help, info, or instructions on how to get my old ipod back! (interesting how we get attached...)
    Cheers,
    Unislash

Okay guys, i know that this is a discussion forum, but i have been very very very patient here . I still have this line of really odd pixels... right in the middle of the screen. Help please 0_0

  • IPod Nano Screen dying

So, I think my iPod Nano is 2nd gen. I don't know which gen is which, but mine looks like the original nano except with the thicker glass after people cracked them in half by accident. I just noticed today that my screen is dying. About half the screen doesn't have colour anymore, and is instead kind of off-blue-ish, like the ink kind of ran up there. It's hard to describe. Before I consider going out to buy a new iPod (the extended warranty on this one has been expired for about 5 months), I want to make sure it's a hardware issue and it can't be resolved except by a hardware solution.
The reason I'm wondering is cause this happened all at once, no gradual line-by-line degeneration or anything, and I haven't knocked it against anything particularly dangerous (heck, I've barely used the thing for about 2 weeks, and it was fine a couple days ago when I used it). Also, when an LCD breaks, it usually spills ink all over the screen, which didn't happen to mine. It's almost completely blanked out.
    Thanks.

I have a 2nd generation iPod nano; the screen on it is not displaying anymore. I'm wondering if it even could have been messed up by staying in my iPod stereo system for quite some time. I now have an iPod Touch as my primary MP3 player, but still want the older iPod nano to work properly as an extra iPod.

  • Ipod Nano screen is screwed up

Hi, i hope someone can help me. I turned on my ipod and my screen is all screwed up its like a black hole with like crack lines and i can't seem to get in back to normal. What can i do and what would have caused this?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
This is sometimes caused by the iPod nano being pushed on, dropped, squished, sat on, etc. If this is the case, Apple will not repair the iPod nano without charging you. You would have to replace it yourself or have a service like this do it...

  • TS3474 IPod Nano screen problem

There is a growing series of white lines on my nano screen.  Why is this and how can it be fixed?

If none of the 5 R's of troubleshooting address the issue, it's likely a hardware malfunction with the nano's LCD screen.

  • IPod Nano Screen is blank and dosen't turn on or off.

I leave my ipod nano on for 2 seconds. Screen turns blank and dosen't turn on or off. iTunes dosen't recognize it. Nothing I do works. Charging dosen't work. iPod, however seems to be on sleep mode.

After leaving the iPod to charge for a minimum of at least 30 minutes, have you tried a hard reset of the device? To do this, make sure the hold switch along the top is in the Off position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • IPod Nano Screen Lock bug

I think I have discovered a bug in the iPod Nano software. I'm using the latest software available as for today.
I lock the iPod Nano's screen and as expected, the graphical display of a combination lock appears. I insert the iPod Nano on to the Universal Dock and then proceed to control the Nano from the Apple Remote. It works partly. I am able to pause and play music and after a song finishes, it goes to the next one. I am not, however, able to fast forward, rewind, or skip tracks. I am able to play and pause, plus the Nano goes to the next track automatically after it finishes play the current one.
Seems to me a bug! I would imagine that the screen lock is supposed to lock all kinds of control to the iPod except entering password.

connect it to itunes and it will unlock

  • Ipod nano screen discoloration or darker area

Hello, I purchased an ipod nano on September 18th and did not purchase an extended warranty. I have noticed when i got it that on the screen there is a little discoloration or darker area in the center of the screen, it is more visible when held farther away, or while palying the game brick. (because of the diffrent color of the back ground, easier to see.) It can also be seen while the ipod is off and if you tilt it at an angle. Is there any way I could get this one repaired, since it is with-in 30 days of purchase? Also if I can get it repaired, what would be the price if I decide to get an extended warranty for my ipod nano? Thanks very much, Matt

It's difficult to know what exactly is wrong with the iPod, but if it were me I would take it to an Apple store and have them take a look.
The iPod warranty is for 12 months from the date of purchase, and if you have no Apple store nearby, you can arrange online service.
    Service request.
The AppleCare extended warranty is $59. You can get this at the online store or a retail store.

  • IPod Nano screen is broken... anything i can do about it?

    Hello,
I got my iPod Nano in november, unfortunatly a couple days ago I accidentally cracked my screen. I did not get the additional extended Apple Care Support Plan, but luckly I am still under the warranty, which my iPod came with. I went to the apple store, and they did not help me very much.. any suggestions on what I should do about this? Can i get a replacement? Will apple fix it for me?
    Thank You in advance...

I would take a look at this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=32222
    "What about out-of-warranty service?
If service for your iPod is not covered by Apple's warranty or the AppleCare Protection Plan for iPod, Apple offers other options. If your iPod requires service because the battery's ability to hold an electrical charge has diminished, in the United States, Apple will replace your iPod for a service fee of $59, plus $6.95 shipping. If your iPod requires service for other issues (except accidental or misuse damage), in the United States, Apple will replace it for a service fee of $249, plus $6.95 shipping."

  • IPod Nano Screen Scratches - ENDED FOR FREE!

Are you tired of how eaisly the iPod Nano scratches? I was, but didn't want to invest in a case that would increase the perfectly small size, nor an expensive film that might not work. I have come up with a free solution. If you go to your local shoe store that sells the brand Phat Farm, and look at a pair of shoes, almost every pair has a static cling film that goes over the "P" symbol. I have found that if you take one of these films (it just peels off, it's a protection for shipping), and use a glass wipe to clean both your iPod and the film, that it sticks perfectly to the screen, and doesn't add too much glare. Even better... it's free! This will also work for any iPod screen, and any part of the iPod that isn't porous!

Also, to anyone who is kind and interested, as I work at a shoe store, and got permission from my manager, I have spare films that I would be willing to send out to anyone who wants one (or multiple). I have sizes that work for almost any non-porous surface, so mostly any iPod.
