Link 2 HomeHub 2's

I now have 2 homehub 2's and would like to connect the 2nd to the 1st via ethernet to use it as a router/wireless repeater. (I was using a Linksys WRT54Gc as the repeater but it's bricked itself).
I've seen http://www.jarviser.co.uk/jarviser/repeaterhubs.html where he used HH1 and a netgear stuff, but has anyone an idiot's guide as to how to configure my 2 HH2's?
Thanks in advance
Dave

  • D-Link DIR-100 plugged into BT Homehub 3

First time posting here so please be gentle. I have the BT Homehub 3 and it is on the other side of the room to my Blu Ray and sky box and stereo (Yes, the mrs loves me). The hub also has a HDD plugged in with movies and music on it. My new amplifier (Pioneer VSX-527 if interested) can stream music from devices on the network, however it won't pick up the HDD on the homehub and I think it is because it is plugged into the DIR-100. I thought i's have to change the settings on the DIR-100 however it works with the blu-ray player and sky anytime. Anyone know what i'm doing wrong?? Thanks for your help in advance!!

    Hi Nick,
How is the Homehub connected to the D-Link? Could you give a bit more detail to explain which devices are connected to each router and how? Can any devices on your network see the HDD?

  • BT Homehub 5 randomly drops Wireless link to HP Sc...

I have an HP Deskjet 3520e Printer/Scanner connected wirelessly to my Sony VAIO laptop via a BT Homehub 5. The hub randomly drops the link to the scanner. The connection via my previous (five year old Netgear) router worked faultlessly. So far neither the BT helpline nor the BT diagnostic software have managed to identify or fix the problem. Grateful for any help. Raffles

    Hi. Welcome to the forums.
How far away are the wireless devices from the hub ? It could be that it's trying to use 5Ghz wireless, which has a much less of a distance reach.
The hub settings should be altered so that the 5Ghz wireless has a different name (SSID). I've recommended adding ".5" to the name. Alternatively turn off 5Ghz altogether.

  • Configuring BT HomeHub 4 on home network with AirPort Express & Time Capsule

I have changed my broadband provider from Sky to BT in the UK and hence from a Sky router to a BT HomeHub 4 router but can't get the new router to work as before with my home network and an extended wireless network running off an AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule.  I had the Sky router with the wireless network off acting as the DNS server and the AE and TC set to connect using DHCP, Create a Wireless Network and the Router Mode set to Off (ie Bridge mode).
I am not an expert but I think the issue could be due to the different BT hub IP settings (Hub IP Gateway Address and DHCP Network Range).  From discussion forums I am also not clear whether it is better to use DHCP, Static or PPPoE settings for the AE and TC.
Has anyone managed to configure a BT HomeHub with a home network and an AE/TC for running the wireless network?

There is really very little difference in the setup between the sky hub and the BThub.
BUT the apple routers do not take kindly to sudden changes of management.
Reset both to factory and start over.
The TC or AE plugged into the BThub will still be in bridge mode with create a wireless network.. and the Extreme working in extend wireless mode.. unless you have them tied together with ethernet. (or visa versa depending on your layout.. AE in bridge and TC extending.. same difference).
You can just leave the BT hub wireless on.. or turn it off as you like. Setup can be a bit tricky as the airport utility seems to insist on the router plugged into the Hub taking over as main router.. this is wrong.. but it is hard to get it to do what you want.. so just finish the setup in the airport utility then manually edit the setup to do what you want.
    Or do it fully manually.
I gave a full set of instructions here.
Linking AirPort Extreme to my bt home hub
    Note:
You have express in the title and extreme in the text.. but it is same thing from setup point of view.

  • Using a D-Link Dir-655 instead of a HomeHub3

i tried this recently, it worked intermittently, but the connection dropped very frequently and the router did seem to struggle. has anyone else used this router? is there any settings i can play around with to stabilise this? the HH3 only has one gigabit port, whereas the d-link has 4, which would be more suitable for my home network. i tried wiring the two together, but the NAT issues made me tear my hair out

You should be able to set the D-Link up as a switch.  That way the HomeHub will be the only NATterer.
You need to connect between a LAN socket on the HomeHub to a LAN (Not WAN) socket on the D-Link, and make sure that the D-Link has its DHCP server turned off.  Also, make sure the D-Link has an address (eg 192.168.1.60) which is on the HH address range, but outside its DHCP range.
Alternatively, you can buy a gigabit switch for about £15 to augment the HomeHub.  eg a TP-Link 5-Port Gigabit Unmanaged Desktop Switch (TL-SG1005D)

  • BT Homehub, reboots on its own

So here is the problem that I have been suffering with for 18+ months. I am on my 3rd Homehub, have replaced all filters and cables each time. Had BT engineer out to look at my line and STILL my homehub reboots all by itself, every few days, regardless of the time of day or whether it being used. I do not notice any issues with my Internet access while the hub is working and when it reboots it soon establishes a connection. This has been an inconvenience up until now when I am working from home more often and I see the my bill for BT each month.
The hub has this firmware - Software version 8.1.H.J (Type A)
and this is what I see in the event log
    Any advice most welcome?

  • Re: TP Link TL-WA730RE

I recieved my TL-WA730RE y'day and eagerly set it up with my HH 3. I tried setting it wirelessly as recomended in the easy(!!!) set up guide, however it wouldn't connect to my hub, so i went down the hardwire route with the manual set up. This seemed to work and m yipad did indeed log on to the repeaters signal, however i couldn't connect to the internet via this signal.
it looks to me like repeater has somehow captured the setting of my homehub but isn't actaully conencted to it.
If i follow the site (http://forumhelp.dyndns.info/wireless/wireless_boost.html), will this help me, can't actuall access it from work so can't verify.
I did manually last night try to access the repeater and play with the settings to turn it in to an access point, not sure if that was the right thing to do or not, but after that it just lost it's connection with the HH. Also before i turned off my home hub, when i typed in the repeaters IP address it would link me to the HH, so somewhere it felt like the repaeter weas getting muddled?
Has anyone else had this sort of issue, begining to wonder if i should have just soent a bit more on a belkin or netgear one that creates it's own new network name diff to that of the HH automatically?

The updated link is shown below. But you will have to wait until you get home to access it.

  • Homehub 2 and edimax 7228APn problem

    Hi All,
I have just bought an EDIMAX 7228APn to use as a range extender.
I have followed the edimax guide download that is specifically for HH3.
I have set the edimax ip to 192.168.1.53  (i have other stuff on 50,51,&52)
I set the default gateway to 192.168.1.254
I set the encryption to WPA2, not Mixed.
I've put in the HH2 wireless key
I've set it to Universal repeater mode and picked the BTHH device from the list of AP's.
i can connect to the Edimax both wirelessly and with a cable fine, but it refuses to allow a connection to the internet.
Anything I can try to figure out why the homehub won't let me access the net via the edimax?
Are there any settings I need to do on the homehub itself?

I have always recommended setting the HH and the repeater to WPA only, on the TP link device. It has a status screen so you can see the AP status, and any devices connected to it.
Its very important that the wireless key matches the one on the HH, otherwise the receive side of the repeater will not be able to connect.

  • Drop from game servers a lot with HomeHub 2.0

Im using HomeHub 2.0 on Win7 and I get a lot of disconnects from online game servers even though the connection is stable. I never had this problem with my old BT modem on the same games. I came to the conclusion that it has to be something to do with HomeHub 2.0...
    Any Ideas?

Mines been doing that the last couple of days.
My connection doesn't lose sync but I lose connection to the internet.
Strangely when it happens it's usually on the hour.
It happened just before 11 last night then just before midnight. This morning it happened just before 8.
My router logs says PPP link down.

  • Frequent ADSL reconnects with Homehub 2.

Problem: Frequent (>20 per week) ADSL reconnects resulting in varying IP Profiles sometimes down to 0.135Mb using Homehub 2.
BT Support actions: Several hours of phone calls at various support levels over three months leading to two BT technician visits. The first visit involved relocating the master socket and tidying the extension connections; the second resulted in a better specification circuit, between the exchange and the cabinet, being selected. Both are useful improvements but did nothing to solve the problem. An attempt to convince Support that the Homehub may be faulty was unsuccessful.
My (subsequent) action: Connected another Homehub 2 (one which had been replaced by BT some years ago to solve a different problem) and problem completely solved. I have had a stable good speed link for over a month now.
Conclusion: BT may find it cheaper to try replacing Homehubs earlier in the fault finding process.

  • BT Infinity 2 HomeHub 5 DSL Re-sync issues?

    Hi All,
I wonder if someone is able to assist. I recently migrated back to BT Infinity 2 Unlimited (FTTC) from Sky Fiber Unlimited (FTTC). (BT had a better package deal etc.) I had been with BT for several years prior to Sky without issues.
This unfortunately is where my connection issues started.
The setup with Sky Fiber was as follows:-
Sky Hub connected to a BT OpenReach Modem (ECI type) connected to an ECI cabinet.
Data rates were 40,000 Down - 8000 Up (Interleaved).
This connection was very stable. It would stay connected for months at a time.
The setup with BT is as follows:-
BT HomeHub 5. (Yes, I know you just smiled!)
After the 10 day period it settled at a data rate around 50,000 Down - 7000 Up (Interleaved).
However, this modem re-syncs (not reboots) the DLS connection several times a day.
The worst time of day is between 18.00 - 02.00hrs. If you want to game, stream or watch a movie on the YouView box you can forget about it. Last night between 18.00 - 01.00hrs it re-synced 14 times.
The DLM has kicked in hard and the line stats at the moment are:-
    1. Product name:
    BT Home Hub
    2. Serial number:
    +068343+NQ41575995
    3. Firmware version:
Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.173.1.6 (Type A) Last updated Unknown
    4. Board version:

    5. VDSL uptime:

    6. Data rate:

    9. Line attenuation:

    10. Signal attenuation:

The last log entry before it re-syncs is PPP LCP Send Termination Request [User request].
I have read the long thread about this and I am not saying that this is the cause, just reporting what the log says before the re-sync.
I have also read alot of other threads that suggest the HomeHub 5 does like to re-sync alot for whatever reasons.
As the data you collect from the HomeHub 5 is limited I decided to use an Asus DSL-AC68U to capture line data over a 24hr period to try and spot why the routers (Yes the Asus re-syncs on the line aswell) indicating its a line issue rather than a router issue.
The results tend to show an high amount of CRC error / Error seconds just before the re-sync occurs.
    Below are some examples:-
    Yesterday, uptime before 18.00hrs
    Tx_CRC[0] = 0
    Tx_FEC[0] = 15

Here are the things I have tried to eliminate any electrical interference within the home that would be causing this:-
    1. Router directly into test socket with no internal wiring connected.
    2. Bought a new BT Mk2 vDSL/ADSL Faceplate for NTE5.
    3. Disconnected every electrial item in the home including the freezers.
    4. Tried different routers.
    What are your thoughts?
To my understand it seems that the line is getting high levels of crosstalk/interference thats causing the re-syncs.
As stated, online gaming, streaming and even watching a movie on the YouView box is too annoying for words.
Thanks for any advice you can offer.
    Best Regards
    Bill.

    Hi Imjolly,
I did try connecting HH5 (Wan Port) to the OpenReach ECI modem but could not get the YouView box to work. It also kinda defeats the object of having an all in one unit. (Wifi on HH5 is weak hence I bought the Asus router.)
The OpenReach modem is also locked so I cannot get any line stats from it to see whats happening and whether it re-syncs or not. I know I can buy an unlocked one from a certain website for about £40, but trying to get support from BT using tampered with items is not the way forward for me. Hope you understand.
    Best Regards
    Bill.

  • Will BT Vision Work With The TP-LINK N750

Hi i have got the bt homehub 2 and the connection is really bad when i play games so i was thinking of getting the TP-LINK N750 but i was wondering if you could use it with the bt vision thanks.

There are plenty of choices if you do not want a home hub.
    This is a popular choice.

  • 2 Homehub's to boast signal???

I've got a homehub 3 set up in the house and I want to set up my old homehub 2 as well to boast the signal but I am not sure how to set it up.
I've connected the old homehub to a telephone line exactly how you would to set it up.
But I am getting the power and wireless light come on but not the broadband light, and it won't connect to the Internet.
Do I need to reset the settings on the old homehub or change them to match the new one? I'm not sure what to do next?

The other link would be more appropiate.
Use your old spare BT Home Hub as a wired Ethernet switch and WAP!

  • Powerline/Homeplug Issues with Homehub 5

    Hello all,
Having an intensely annoying intermittent issue with Powerline adapters & HH5.
    Set up is:
BT Broadband Extender flex connected to HH5 upstairs with a BT Wifi Home Hotspot downstairs (just to increase wifi coverage)
TP Link TL-PA211 Powerline adapter also connected to HH5 upstairs with 2 other TL-PA211s downstairs (1 for Sky demand & 1 for PS3...different rooms)
They have all worked at same time!......but
Intermittently - the PS3 TL-PA211 will stop working & then "re-connect" of its own doing later & the Wifi Hotspot will stop working (no data light either upstairs or downstairs) & then spring into life of its own accord eg. last night it did it overnight!
I have done no end of pairing & unpairing ritruals & full resets to the point where I think I might need a new stair carpet.
I'm now beginning to think there might be an issue with the homehub?
I'm aware of its "smart" capabilities & switching etc.......is there any setting that I need to look at or a re-boot or refresh or anything?
    Thanks in advance all!

    Would agree with gk406.
Firstly - leave the hub alone.
When you set up a home network system, despite 'out of the box solutions' coming with two adaptors, one to wire via ethernet to the router and another to position wherever, if you connect both systems directly to the router it can cause compatability issues, as both will fight for control of the 'satellite' adaptors to the point they don't know which one to communicate through, so they end up not doing anything. I am guessing the odd disconnections/reconnections is due to Sky taking control of the system - checking for updates etc in the middle of the night, then relinquishing control once having carried out its checks so the other device can reconnect...
Pick one system to use (shouldn't really matter if both 200mb or 500mb systems- though I have a mixture of both so have the 500mb adaptor plugged into the router) though I am thinking the TP Link as they are the most prevalent in your system, and unplug the other. Connect one device (of the chosen system) via ethernet to the router, connect its paired mates and ensure all works as advertised and the boxes you have connected to it can get online. I would check the Skybox under its own settings to confirm it is connected - they can sometime refuse to connect and need to be powered down and back up to let them see the network.  You could also take a note of its IP address to make sure you can see it on the network, then trial download something from On Demand to verify all is OK. If TP Link comes with any software to monitor the adaptors make sure all is up and running.  I guess at this point you could leave the BT system off, to make sure you don't get any odd disconnections overnight.
Once that is verified, connect only one of the other BT devices and check it connects up to the network, and that you can connect to it.
For this step, to save both your legs and carpet, I suggest you do this upstairs next to your router. I tend to get all my powerline adaptors in one room with the router and a laptop, then set them up on a power brick - purely to make sure they all connect to the network and that I can connect to them using the laptop - THEN distribute them around the house, verifying each one in turn connects OK before I move to the next.
Obviously you could do this the other way around, by plugging the BT adaptor into the router and your BT hotspot adaptor downstairs, then just using the two TP adaptors for your sky and PS3 - there shouldn't be any reason for it not too work.
Hope that helps - apologies for length!

  • Using my HomeHub, why do my phone and my tablet ke...

This is getting to be a pain in the neck.  I have had my Nexus 7 repaired, and when I got it back, charged it up and went through set up. I connected it to my proper Home Hub wifi - the full speed Infinity.
Part way through the process, my tablet does a partial reset and connects to BT WIFI - through my Home Hub. But it does not know the password for that! It tehrefore fails to download any of the apps from my saved account, and I have to manually go through each one to install them.
I've worked out that to start with, on initial set up, I must set it to connect to BTWIFI, as it then reconnects to that.  But that means it is downloading hundreds of megs of data over a slow connection of max 3Mbps instead of my 39Mbps.
Previously both my phone and tablet have often connected to BTWIFI instead of my own wifi account when I got home, either giving me an error, or if I have had BTWIFI app running, connecting and thus only getting the slow signal.
Why is the BTWIFI signal the slightly stronger one?
What can I do about it?  I don't want to switch it off, as I use BTWIFI from time to time when out and about.

As John said, set the devices to forget the BTWifi connection then see this link how to set up your phone and tablet to connect to your Homehub you do not need to connect to BTWifi first.
