Link background color on a gradient

I'm using a shape with a gradient to put text on see: http://www.eelke.com
weird thing is that the background of my links turns into this weird dark orange color. I tried everything to change it. Anyone have any suggestions?

What exactly have you tried to change it? Specifics on your previous attempts will eliminate possible suggestions you may have already attempted!
Create your gradient shape as one layer then place the text with links as another layer on top of the gradient shape.

• FW8 - turn background color into gradient?

Is there any way to turn the background color into a
gradient. Right now
I'm making a box the size of the canvas and coloring it with
a gradient and
then sending it to the back. I thought in the older version
of fw there was
a "more options" selection when selecting a background color.
TIA for your

Hi Peter:
Thanks for the response. I just went into one of my old
versions and it
appears I was remembering something that was never there.
That would be a
nice feature if they could do it. Thanks again.

• How do I save an image (logo) transparent so that it will appear transparent on any color background such as a gradient or black?

How do I save an image (logo) transparent so that it will appear transparent on any color background such as a gradient or black?
I save image as "transparent" at File > New... but when I place on a gradient background it keeps appearing white. I'm trying to save transparent to be effective on any color such as a gradient or black. How do I truly save as transparent?

Put the logo on its own layer set the layer fill to 0 and add a layer style to the logo layer. Here I duped one change fill to 0 added style.

• Linked jpg background color?

Is it possible to specify the background color of a linked jpg?
I am linking directly to a jpg on my site and I think would like to keep it that way for sake of simplicity. The link looks something like this:
http://my-domain.com/jpg-name.jpg
I am getting the default color of the browser, but am hoping I can manipulate that color somehow.
Thanks,
Brian

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking. You want the page's background color to be determined by the colors used in the JPG? Which colors? You might try something like this:

• Gradient background color for custom tooltip

Hi,
I have created a custom tooltip where I am using light gray as background color.
(I have created a separate custom tooltip component.)
Now user wants to have it with a gradient effect (is that what its called?).
Basically, this gray color should be more dark at the top region of tooltip.
This color should gradually go lighter from top to bottom.
Can you tell me how this can be done?
Thanks and regards,
Amey

Hi,
Thank you for reply.
Can you please tell me where do I have to set this?
This is how my custom tooltip component looks: -

implements="mx.core.IToolTip" width="{txtBody.width + 20}" height="{txtBody.height + 20}"
backgroundColor="#E0E5E8"

public var bodyText:String;
// Implement required methods of the IToolTip interface;
// these methods are not used in this example, though.
public var _text:String;
public function get text():String {
return _text;
public function set text(value:String):void {

</mx:Script>
<mx:Text id="txtBody" htmlText="{bodyText}" textAlign="left" />

• Linked Image with CSS Hover background Color Jerks in IE8

Please see http://www.rrmuseumpa.org/about/musviews/index.shtml and hover over any of the five slideshow images, using IE8. Note that the hover causes a jerk when the assigned background color for hover kicks in, apparently by adding some vertical margin at botton. It's fine in all other browsers.
What I want is for any image that serves as a link to not have a border and to not pick up the default hover background color, and to not cause the "jerk" in IE8.
CSS file is at http://www.rrmuseumpa.org/css/main.css . Specific css would be most appreciated.
Thanks.

The very last style rule states
/* HACK FOR IE: to stabilize appearance of menu items; the slash in float is to keep IE 5.0 from parsing */
@media screen, projection
ul.MenuBarHorizontal li.MenuBarItemIE
display: inline;
f\loat: left;
background: #FFF;
color: #FFF;
This is a white backgorund and white text. Simply change the background colour to #2565B2

• CS6 #nav links change hover background color based on its position in series

First post from a complete DW CS 6 novice on Win7. Not knowing JavaScript or JQuery, I thought I would add simplest animation to a website navigation based on the two col fixed header footer design. The navigation links on the left <sidebar1> have been increased to 24, with a common link background in the default state. When the cursor is passed over the links they would change background color to one of five given in the image placed in the jpeg image loaded as the 1st list item. The image itself only acts as a color key to the five catagories of links directly below it, and is not hyperlinked. The idea is that someone looking for new tools would need to hover down the nav links and only be concerned with the Yellow background ones, even if they appear in any random position down the list. To give each link a color to start with would make <sidebar1> appear too colorful.
I have David Powers' two dvd titles and was thinking of using a nth-of-type() . It does not work. Perhaps there are two sets of colons required ( a:hover:nth-of-type(4), a:active:nth-of-type(4) {background-color:#f00;} ). There is surely a way that would work but I do not know enough of DW and CSS at present to figure this out.
Many thanks.

I don't what menu system you're using, but you might be able to create some CSS classes to use in your menu like so:

a href="some-link.html" class="about">about link

a href="some-link.html" class="new">new link

a href="some-link.html" class="new_proc">new procedures link

CSS:
li a.about:hover {background-color:gray}
li a:new:hover {background-color:forestgreen}
li a:new_proc:hover {background-color:lawngreen}
and so on...

• Apply Different Background Color to Promoted Links Tiles

Hello everyone,
Does anybody know a way of changing the background color of each individual tile of Promoted Links? If possible, and if anybody is familiar, I would like to do it using a JS Link file.
Thanks in advanced.
Fausto Capellan, Jr - SharePoint Admin

Hi Fausto,
You could try the script below to set color without randomly change:

Please set the parameter “n” with number per your situation in the function getRgb(n,i). The screenshot below is my result:

• Encore DVD 2.0 on Windows: Composition background color of dynamically linked After Effects projects

Hello,
I used Adobe Dynamic Link to import an After Effects project, and I saw that in Encore the background color of a composition is set to black even though it is defined with another value in After Effects.
I had to open the project in AE and place a solid layer with the desired color behind all other layers.
What are the causes for this behaviour? Did I do something wrong or is it a bug?
Best regards,
Christian Kirchhoff

The composition background is transparent. It has per se no color and does not react to blendmodes and such. It's imaginable that Encore resets it to black for whatever reason (wouldn't know, as I design my menus always with full frame backgrounds to begin with). Still, I would consider it a bug regardless, so please fiel away:

• How can I make FF use custom visited/unvisited link colors but allow the website to choose the other text and background colors?

websites often choose colors that I have trouble distinguishing between but overriding the other colors can cause color defects on certain websites.

Add code like this to userContent.css in the chrome folder.
There can however still be problems with clickable elements that use background images.
Remove that link from the history to restore that background image.

Using Octenol to Attract Mosquitoes

Octenol is an natural chemical that occurs naturally as a by-product of plants and some animals that eat a lot of vegetable produce. If carbon dioxide is mixed with octenol, it has been found to be an attractant to several mosquito species. There are other insects such as no-see-ums and biting midges that are also attracted to this scent. It has been proven to be a very effective product, especially for no-see-ums.

Octenol is also a pesticide ingredient that is used to attract mosquitoes and biting flies. It does not kill the insects; it only attracts them. It can be used in combination with other products and devices that do kill them once they are successfully attracted to the device. It is important to be aware that non-pest insects are also attracted and destroyed by some of the devices.

If octenol is ingested, there is a possibility for toxicity. It is not, however, harmful in the air to humans, pets, or the environment. It is vitally important that it is kept safely away from children to avoid the possibility of ingesting. Placement of the attractant and device utilized to catch biting insects should be carefully considered. It should be kept safely away from children and pets.

To be most effective in mosquito control, the attractant should be placed between the breeding grounds of the mosquito and the area where the people are located. There are range limits that the attractant will reach and this needs to be considered in the placement of the trap as well.

• Background -color of a template page through skinning

Hi All,
I designed a Template page using webcenter portal application .In that I added some Images .
Now I want to get good look and feel for that template using skinning .By default in the application we have portal-skin.css.
So I want to apply background -color to that template page.But the color should be shaded with more than one color.So how can I
get it through skinning.Could anyone help me on this.
Thanks
keerthi

Hi Jiri,
Thanks for your quick reply .
I have seen the link which you gave .But they had mentioned like this to apply for background.
background: -webkit-linear-gradient(left, grey, grey 30%, white 30%, white);
But in my skin.css file i have not found this property -webkit-linear-gradient.
And another syntax is of like this:
div#content {background: url("./gray.png") repeat-y, white; background-size: 30%;}
Here there are uploading color as a image .But actually i am not following this way .
Could we have any other approach for this.
Thanks
keerthi.

• How to give Common Background color for all JPanels in My Swing application

Hi All,
I am developing a swing application using The Swing Application Framework(SAF)(JSR 296). I this application i have multiple JPanel's embedded in a JTabbedPane. In this way i have three JTabbedPane embedded in a JFrame.
Now is there any way to set a common background color for the all the JPanel's available in the application??
I have tried using UIManager.put("Panel.background",new Color.PINK);. But it did not work.
Also let me know if SAF has some inbuilt method or way to do this.
Your inputs are valuable.
Thanks in Advance,

It is not the fault of NetBeans' GUI builder, JPanels are opaque by default, I mean whether you use Netbeans or not.Thank you!
I stand corrected (which is short for +"I jumped red-eyed on my feet and rushed to create an SSCCE to demonstrate that JPanels are... mmm... oh well, they are opaque by default... ;-[]"+)
NetBeans's definitely innocent then, and indeed using it would be an advantage (ctrl-click all JPanels in a form and edit the common opaque property to false) over manually coding
To handle this it would be better idea to make a subclass of JPanel and override isOpaque() to return false. Then use this 'Trasparent Panel' for all the panels where ever transparency is required.I beg to differ. From a design standpoint, I'd find it terrible (in the pejorative sense of the word) to design a subclass to inconsistently override a getter whereas the standard API already exposes the property (both get and set) for what it's meant: specify whether the panel is opaque.
Leveraging this subclass would mean changing all lines where a would-be-transparent JPanel is currently instantiated, and instantiate the subclass instead.
If you're editing all such lines anyway, you might as well change the explicit new JPanel() for a call to a factory method createTransparentJPanel(); this latter could, at the programmer's discretion, implement transparency whichever way makes the programmer's life easier (subclass if he pleases, although that makes me shudder, or simply call thePanel.setOpaque(false) before returning the panel). That way the "transparency" code is centralized in a single easy to maintain location.
I had to read the code for that latter's UI classes to find out the keys to use (+Panel.background+, Label.foreground, etc.), as I happened to not find this info in an authoritative document - I see that you seem to know thoses keys, may I ask you where you got them from?
One of best utilities I got from this forum, written by camickr makes getting these keys and their values very easy. You can get it from his blog [(->link)|http://tips4java.wordpress.com/2008/10/09/uimanager-defaults/]
Definitely. I bit a pair of knucles off when discovered it monthes after cumbersomely traversing the BasicL&F code...
Still, it is a matter-of-fact approach (and this time I don't mean that to sound pejorative), that works if you can test the result for a given JDK version and L&F, but doesn't guarantee that these keys are there to stand - an observation, but not a specification.
Thanks TBM for highlighting this blog entry, that's the best keys list device I have found so far, but the questions still holds as to what specifies the keys.
