Link/checklist for migrating applications from Oracle 9i to Oracle 11g?Help
Hi all,
We need to perform an impact analysis on migratiing an application from Oracle 9i to Oracle 11g. Does any of you have a detailed checklist to follow, in terms of queries, PL/SQL statements, optimizer etc. etc., when attempting this migration. We require something more specific from the application point of view rather than a DBA point of view.
Additionally, we have queries written extensively with rule hints. Should there be a special consideration for the same since now we are moving to CBO in 11g
Even if any one has a link, that would help. Thank you so much!
Hi Nikhil,
Thanks Xaheer,You're welcome :)
I'm going through the link: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10819/toc.htm
But it still mentions stuff from a DBA angle. I need from an application angle.
Do I need to change my queries taht are current written with RBO? Do I need to change Pl/SQL blocks ?Please refer tech below notes:
*1)TROUBLESHOOTING: Server Upgrade Results in Slow Query Performance -- 160089.1*
*2)TESTING SQL PERFORMANCE IMPACT OF AN ORACLE 9i TO ORACLE DATABASE 10g RELEASE 2 UPGRADE WITH SQL PERFORMANCE ANALYZER -- 562899.1*
Before upgrading your production database, please perform upgrade of test database and do complete testing.
Hope helps

jebatcoHello,
just migrating a DB2 database to Oracle 10g might be an easy task. The Oracle Migration Workbench is the tool for such a migration:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration/workbench/index.html
I have no idea about SAP, and that might complicate the picture. But there exist specialists for this task:
Oracle Expertise in the SAP environment

Faster way to migrate data from SQL Server to Oracle 10g
We have to migrate data from SQL Server to Oracle 10 g.
One particular table on SQL Server has records around 1.25 millions.
We tried moving data using DTS package, but looks it will take hours with current speed of 300 records/minute.
This table has TEXT column, which has XML strings stored. I am not sure, if this is the reason for slow migration.
Would you please suggest better options to migrate it faster?
Thanks in advance !!!Have you tried Migration work bench?

Hi,
I haven't. But, there are lots of changes from each service packs,
henceforth you may have to stick to what the documentation says to avoid
the errors that shoots up. Again, the errors depends upon how you have
coded your application. Please let me know if you have encountered any
errors and the messages for me to help you.

Migrating application from tomcat 3 to tomcat 5
Hello everybody,
Does anyone have information about some kind of manual or tutorial with steps to migrate applications from Tomcat 3 to Tomcat 5??
Thanks a lot,
JohnnyWhat issues are you having? There have been some important changes between the Servlet and JSP specs between the two but most of these have been additions - nothing that will be too hard to handle.
Does your application use a database? If so there have been configuration changes between Tomcat 3 and 5 but for that the Tomcat 5 docs are very good at telling you what you need.
I would start by trying it and see where you get problems. I think it will be easier than you think, depending on how complicated your app is. -
My stops because of the wrong answer to the secret question, and I want to use it for evil application from Apple Store?
Hello mr sami,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your security questions. I found an article with some useful information if you cannot remember the answers to your security questions:
What should I do if I don't remember the answers to my Apple ID security questions?
Try answering them at least once to see if you can get them right, even if you are not sure you remember the answers to your security questions.
If you are confident you can't remember them, try one of the following:
If you have three security questions and a rescue email address
sign in to My Apple ID and select the Password and Security tab to send an email to your rescue email address to reset your security questions and answers.
If you have one security question and you know your Apple ID passwordsign in to My Apple ID and select the Password and Security tab to reset your security question.
If you have one security question, but don't remember your Apple ID password
contact Apple Support for assistance. Learn more about creating a temporary support PIN to help Apple confirm your identity when you contact Apple Support.
Note: If you have forgotten your password and answer your security questions incorrectly too many times in a row, you will be unable to try to answer your security questions for a period of time. During that time you will not be able to reset your password and will not have access to your account.
You can find the full article here:

How to migrate data from MS Access to Oracle???????
how to migrate data from MS Access to Oracle???????
You can use heterogeneous services (HS) connection to MS-Access from Oracle and still use the same PL/SQL (or even a single CTAS statement) or SQL to load directly to Oracle tables. It's transparent, quick and clean as opposed to writing complex control files.
You might have to set the ODBC connection to your Access database and add the details to Oracle listener.
Please let me know if you are not sure how to set up the connection. -

Checklist for migration from oracle 9i to oracle 10g DB
Hi all,
My previous DB was Oracle 9i.I want to migrate it to Oracle 10g DB.
So can anybody provide me the checklist for the same ?
Thanks in advance....It doesn't matter how long this process may take to read the entire upgrade documentation. You are supposed to perform this procedure first on a testing environment prior to perform it against the actual production database, you can take all the time you need to customize trim and tailor the procedure to your particular environment requirements. Don't expect anybody else to provide a shortcut, you will find at the end it will take you more time to correct missing upgrade steps and you will -most probably- have to read much more google references and metalink documents that will size bigger than the upgrade guide.
I suggest you to read through the upgrade document, and don't look for shortcuts. I also suggest you to document issues you may find when performing the upgrade. In my particular scenario I had to deal with an ORA-04030 error, among other things after I performed an upgrade process. You may want to take a look at the not documented Issues I had to face after a production upgrade, and even though I read through the upgrade guide and performed several testing upgrades, there are issues such as user's actual workload that cannot be accurately measured in a testing environment.

Migrating table from Sybase 12 to Oracle 10g
Hi ,
We have a situation where we have to migrate multiple Sybase databases to Oracle10g . These multiple database have same set of tables but different data in these tables on each sybase database ( data differ, based on location or region wise but same table name and structure). We want to migrate all these sybase database to Oracle 10g and in single database, which involves inserting data from multiple tables ( though they exist on different database in sybase) into single Oracle table.
for example if we have a table 'TESTK' that exist on five different sybase database but with different region wise data. I want to bring data from these five tables( Five as they exist in five differet sybase databases) and insert them into a single oracle table 'TESTK' .
Have anybody ever face such scenerio , what are all possible approch please suggest. Once data is inserted into oracle table i need to partitioned this oracle table as well.It is not quite clear whether you have multiple tables (referencing each other) in multiple sybase databases or either one table or several non connected tables in multiple sybase databases.
In the first case of course your task is harder because you need to keep references and most probably you cannot blindly copy data from db 1, db 2 and unite them because they can have the same id's coming from different sources.
In the second case your task of course is much easier you can simply load all your data in Oracle tables either using some interim tables (if you need to filter out duplicates) or load data straight into target tables if you are sure you haven't duplicates.
Also another question in case 1 is whether intersection of your data is 0 rows i.e. all data are completely different in each source db or not.
So I'm sure you can find tools for blindly moving data from sybase to Oracle, although if you need to do some more complex filtering, computation or whatever you most probably need to write it yourself.
I'v done a few data conversion projects from one schema to another and as the requirements were quite complex the only possibility for us was to initiate a separate data conversion project and create conversion software (pl/sql packages manually).
You can find an overview of our approach in my article "Data migration from old to new application: an experience" here http://www.gplivna.eu/papers/legacy_app_migration.htm

Migrating application from Windows CE to Windows Mobile 5 or 6
I have an application written in Java that runs on a GPS device running Windows CE.
I would like to migrate this application to Windows Mobile 5.0 or 6.0, so that it could be
used on pocket PCs or any other GPS device running windows mobile.
This application is compiled in Netbeans.
Could someone tell me the best way to go about this? What are important
changes/requirements to note about Windows Mobile and Netbeans?
Is there a required relational database engine for Windows Mobile?
I am confused about whether or not this is even possible?

Take a look at Oracle Forms Upgrading Oracle Forms 6i to Oracle Forms 11g. This document gives you all the information you need to perform the upgrade. As to moving from Windows to Linux, Oracle Forms is pretty much platform independent in that almost all major server OS's are supported. Take a look at Oracle Forms Documentation and specifically the Forms Services Deployment Guide and the Oracle Fusion Middleware Installation Guide for Oracle Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer guides.
Hope this helps,
