Link domain name to .mac server

How do you link your own domain name to .mac server? please advice, thanks
SIlver G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Hi
This is something that is done by your domain name host, so login to their site.
Search for domain name forwarding, or domain forwarding.
Here you enter the address that you wish to forward to.
The short address for an iWeb page on .mac is:
http://web.mac.com/YourUserName
If you have more than one site and wish to forward to a specific one, then you can use:
http://web.mac.com/YourUserName/iWeb/SiteName <<-- Make sure the W in iWeb is a capital.

  • How do I use my own domain name  with Mac server with iWeb

For a number of years I have had my own domain name that when typed into a browser it would redirect the browser to my site on the .Mac server. I hear with iLife ’08 I can have my own domain name hosted by .Mac so I know longer have to have the long addresses for each pages the I have now for my site (i.e. the http://web.mac.com/thewildhearts/WildheartPhotography/NatureGalleries.html). How do I go about getting my domain name (wildheartphotography.com) so that Mac will host it and do I need to notify the current host that Mac will be hosting my site now?
Thanks. I really appreciate the help I get from this forum.
    Pat

It's very easy, really. You go to your domain control and redirect the address. IPower, for example points the domain name very easily: you just type in the URL of your site and it will point to your mac server.
I've used GoDaddy before and it is a bit more difficult to "point".

  • Question about domain name and .mac

my wife and i are going to move to London and we want a website to update people. now it would be a lot easier to say, "oh, just go to www.domainx.com". (with domainx being whatever domain we buy) rather than saying, "oh go to mac.homepage.iweb.ilife.joseph.page1.com" or whatever massive name they choose. now i would like to publish to .mac because of what they allow you to do. is there anyway i could buy domainx.com and when they go to domainx.com it will send them to my .mac published site. i hope you understand the question. i don't want to be limited by domainx.com but i want the luxury of that short domain name. any help would be amazing. thanks so much!

  • How to change the name / IP address and domain name for BOE Server

    Hello,
We want to change the name / IP address and domain name for BOE Server, please could you indicate the steps or procedure to follow?
    I need your help
    thank you

If it's 3.1 just change them, shouldn't cause any issues if by domain name you are referring to changing the domain the computer belongs to. If you are changing your domain for AD authentication then you will may have to take quite a few steps if the old domain is going away. Let us know.

  • Is it possible to run a Windows domain with a Mac Server?

Looking for some advice on getting rid of our Windows domain controller (DHCP server, AD, etc.) in favour of a Mac Server (which we own).  Is it possible to run a Windows domain with a Mac Server?

Snow Leopard Server (10.6) and earlier included Samba which supported acting as an NT Domain Controller (this pre-dates Active Directory). Lion (10.7) and later as standard can no longer act as an NT Domain Controller nor can they act as an Active Directory server.
So the short answer is no.
Theoretically you could port Samba4 to a Mac and Samba4 can act as an Active Directory server. In reality this is not going to be easy but is theoretically possible.
An easier option might be to run a copy of Linux (e.g. Ubuntu) in a virtual machine e.g. using VirtualBox and then run Samba4 in that and configure it to act as and Active Directory server. Then you could connect the Mac side to the Samba4 Active Directory server. This approach would use all Mac hardware, and not have any extra costs of licenses to buy and as far as all the rest of the network is concerned would be a standard Active Directory server environment.

  • Using a domain name with .mac and iWeb

How does one go about linking a domain name to the iWeb pages/ .mac account?
In other words, I don't want to have to give out the long web.mac.com/blahblahblah/site
name, I'd like to just have a domain name.

    Dottonedan...
I have replied to your thread over here...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=647660&tstart=0
You might want to have a look at the public DNS service that I posted about.
What you are looking for is basically a domain name server that will accept your domain name and be able to translate the words into the numbers like you mention. That's what DNS servers do. There are LOTS of DNS servers on the internet and once you get your domain name hooked into one the information will propagate within days if not hours, making your domain name functional.
Anyways, look back at the thread you started and you'll see my post there... we'll start there and get you squared away sooner or later, i'm sure.

  • Why do I have to have a domain name with Lion Server?

If I have just a small local network of macs and windows clients all under one roof do I have to have a domain name? Everything in the tutorials and looking through old posts seems to indicate that Lion Server works better if I use a domain name for my network. Pro and cons for a network newbie like myself please?
    Thanks,
    Tony

Directory Services like Apple's Open Directory or Microsoft's Active Directory use a domain name server to support running such a service. Therefore if your going to run Open Directory (in your case) you need to run a DNS server and use a domain name. The domain name does not have to be a real one but using your own real one is often easier because -
You can be confident it is not conflicting with anyone else
It can make later setting up email and web servers easier
You could however use a fake domain like fakedomain.private and then your server would have an entry like server.fakedomain.private
I would advise using Open Directory (and hence a domain) as even if now you could get away without this on a small network, hopefully your organisation will continue to grow and might need this later. Doing it now saves changing it all later when it will be more hard work.

  • Using your personal domain name in .Mac/iWeb?

Hi people, just a question about using my personal domain name which I have from UKreg.
Anyone know how to use this in iWeb? I have looked at a few sites explaining it, but looks like a hard task!
    Thanks : )

It's very easy actually. Follow the directions and links here:
    http://www.mac.com/web/en/Tips/185DE18A-73AB-4E9D-8BD4-A2A75A1C95CF.html
A couple clicks now that you already have your domain registered.

  • Changing the default domain name of the server.

I know this is not the correct title for the topic. but its the best word i could found on my voculabary.
    here's my problem.
Im using Sun App Server 9. the server is installed in the local machine. for testing purposes client access from the local server is sufficient. I deployed a web service using net beans 5.5. My problem is that the WSDL file is generated (by server) uses a fully qualified domain name rather than localhost. for example it uses http://mlb.stdmlb.sliit.lk:8080. When i try to create a client using netbeans it tries to access the server using this address (the one in the WSDL) but the firewall denies access to port 8080. Therefore i want to use the server to use localhost rather than the long domai name. (at least http://mlb) Can anyone tell me how to configure this?
    Lahiru

These are the steps for changing domain name & IP address without reinstall
    a) Stop the Gateway and Server .
    b) Export the profile server database to a flat ldif file:
    # /opt/netscape/directory4/slapd-host_name/db2ldif /temp/profile.ldif
    c) Use awk, perl, or vi, to change every instance of the system domainname in the ldif file to that of the new system.
    d) Import the edited ldif file into the profile server on the new machine:
    # /opt/netscape/directory4/slapd-/ldif2db -i /temp/profile.ldif
    e) edit etc/opt/SUNWips/platform.conf and change all the domain name & Ip address
    f) edit /etc/opt/SUNWips/properties.file change the domain name
    g) Start the platform server and gateway on the new machine.

  • Fully Qualified Domain Name for Portal Server on Win XP

I'm trying to install the Portal Server (java_es_05Q1_portal-windows-x86) to a Win XP workstation to test my Kosmos portlets (http://labs.jboss.com/projects/kosmos).
I get the following error msg after selecting the features:
System doesn't have Fully Qualified Domain Name.
Setup Fully Qualified Domain Name and then continue installation.
What exactly am I supposed to configure under Win XP? (No /etc/hosts?!)
    Thanks.
    Aron

    Hi!
Probably you could enter the hostname in c:/Windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts
(maybe the directory is called WINNT, I have no XP here)

  • Change domain name clients and server

    Hello,
I want to change the domain name from eg ".vancouver.gov" to ".vancouver.local" on all of our devices in the network. Zcm has been installed with ".vancouver.gov" and the clients also are registered with ".vancouver.gov". When i change the domain name on the workstations and change the corresponding dns entries of the workstations to ".vancouver.gov" i cannot register workstations anymore and wol does not work anymore. Distributing applications to the workstation does work.
Anybody now how to accomplish this change.
We have about 400 workstations and 1 zcm 10.3.3 server.
    Thanks.
    Ren

    I would recommend an SR.
Changing the DNS of Devices should not impact any of that, so long as
the clients can still properly resolve the servers and you are not
    destroying the old DNS zone.
This may indicate that the CA/Server CERTs do not have the fullied
qualified DNS name of the server but perhaps just the short name.
Also, I would not recommend attempting to fix any certs right away, but
rather using the "Additional DNS Name" setting on your server, since
changing a Cert could cause lots for work on client PCs.
Later versions of ZCM make changing server certs a little easier but for
10.3.3, I would just use the server setting instead of a change.
But since I suspect you can create an SR as most government accounts
can, it may be simplest to go that route but keep my thoughts avoiding
any cert rebuilds in mind if there is any issue with the names in the
    server cert.

  • HT1277 where I can put domain name  in exchange server setting?

I am trying to configure my exchange account for my company and it requires to put domain name as well with server name and userid. I dont see any place in configuration to put domain name, please let me know if some one tried this.

Initiately i have the same problem. I figured out, first i have to uncheck "use Autodiscover Service". Enter your company server into external server and change the user name to your nt username. Check on use autodiscover service and let it run. I managed to retrived all my email without enter domain.
You can go to the mail configuration by right click and select edit.

  • Free domain name for .mac websites.

Is there any free site that works with .mac's personal domain feature. I have one through microsoft office live (free) but cannot seem to find out how to do it through that. Any information?

    http://www.ulimit.com/en/vdns.php
    http://www.dot.tk/en/pageA00.html
But these are only redirects (with cloaking maybe). They aren't CNAME. I don't think there is any free domain name who does CNAME.

  • Hosting a Domain Name on Mac OS X Server 10.1

Hello. I have a server running Mac OS X Server 10.1, and I
want to use it as a webserver. I already have a domain.
My questionis, how do i host the domain on the server?

The big difference between Mac OS X Server and client is that Server comes with a series of GUI tools for managing the server - configuring, stopping and starting the various server components including the web server, but also directory server, file servers and network services such as DNS, NAT, DHCP, etc.
There's no advantage to Mac OS X Server as far as PHP or MySQL is concerned - none of the GUI tools will drive those apps, so you'll need regular PHP and MySQL skills whichever way you go. If that's all you're using then Client should be sufficient.
