  • Can I use gmail as default client for sharing photos from camera roll or links from safari?

I use the Gmail app for my Gmail stuff (my normal default email address).  I use yahoo with apples mail app.  When I try to send a link from safari or share a photo I have taken from my camera roll, it sends using my yahoo email.  I would prefer Gmail as my yahoo email is only around for fantasy sports.
Is there any way to do this?
I have tried setting up Gmail using apples setup in an attempt to make a gmail send only type of account, however it tells me an account is already set up, maybe due to my using of googles calendar and googles contacts?  Can't seem to figure out how to properly do this.  Maybe remove my calender and contacts stuff completely and try to re-setup the mail account (since I am using the gmail app, I wouldn't think it would hook into the native ios mail one)?
    Any ideas?

Rock- I have google contacts set up as a CardDav account.  Apparently I must have had google calendar set up using the standard ios gmail account setup for mail, while just turning the mail function to "off" in the settings. This was why I could not add a gmail account...I already had done this lol.
I tried a couple of things and still couldn't figure it out.  I can't add an ics subscribed calendar for some reason as it isn't enable to authenticate.  Nor can I set up a simple CalDav calendar, despite my settings being correct, it wasn't able to successfully authenticate either.  Or maybe it was "verify" and not "authenicate"...at any rate I coudln't do it.
Maybe I am explaining what I want to do incorrectly.  I'll try again, though it is probably as clear as mud lol.
I want my google contacts and my calendar.  If iOS handles this for me I am totally ok with that.  I want my Gmail app, which handles the bulk, or essentially all of my mail for me, labels etc, and I use it all the time...which of course I am ok with as well.
I want the native iOS mail app to handle my yahoo account, which sees little to no email transaction from me. It does this well right now, as its pretty much only a seasonal account....meaning when it is fantasy football season, it comes into play.
I want the native iOS mail app to handle any photos or links I send from the phone to give my gmail account address in the "From" part of the header....even if it sends it from yahoo's servers.  Preferably I would like it to come from gmails servers but I know I can't have my cake and eat it too.
The reason for all this is if I send someone a photo I want them to respond to my gmail not my yahoo account.  I tried setting up the gmail account using the native iOS gmail account setup, but what happens is that I end up with my incoming gmail in two spots on the phone, which I don't want.
If I could turn off incoming gmail using the native iOS account setup, this would solve the issues.  I would then be able to designate the native Gmail account as primary (for use as a send only account), and still keep the yahoo inbox going as well.
Even if I went to extremes and paid money so I could forward my yahoo mail to my gmail account, thereby allowing my to remove yahoo completely from the phone, I would just be left with no option to send emails as there would be no default account available (as my gmail is handled by the app, not the phone).

  • After installing iOS 7.1.1, I can no longer send links from Safari using my Yahoo account

I frequently send links from Safari, and as my Yahoo is my default email, it obviously sends from Yahoo. However, since installing iOS 7.1.1, those messages end up in my outbox, and I get a message saying "a copy of the message has been placed in your outbox. Sending the message content to the server failed." I am able to change my sending email to Gmail or my company domain, though, and the message will go through without issue. But changing the sending account to a different Yahoo account generates the same failure message.
Is this a Yahoo problem (which wouldn't surprise me)? Or is it an iOS 7.1.1 bug (which also wouldn't surprise me)? Anyone else having the problem?
For the record, I have rebooted the iPad Air 128GB. I have tried this on multiple wifi connections (AT&T Uverse at the office, Time Warner cable at home, blazing fast local fiber company at the gym). The only thing I have not done is remove & reinstall the Yahoo accounts. I thought I'd pick the collective brains of the community first.
    Thanks!!

    Addendum
Sending straight from the mail client in any/all of the Yahoo accounts works just fine. The bug just seems to happen when sending links from Safari.

  • Issue with opening PDF file link from Safari

    Hi Everyone,
I got a problem with opening PDF file link from Safari 4.04. Instead of getting a normal pdf content, it shows some weird characters. Not sure it is something wrong with Adobe Reader Plugin or Safari?
I have uploaded a screenshot of the issue in the adobe forum (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/531870). Please help!
    Many Thanks,
    John

There's nothing wrong, except the fact that you have Adobe Reader installed. You don't need it, so get rid of it; it will only cause problems with Safari. What you're seeing is the contents of the PDF file, rather than having it displayed.
If you want to download a PDF file, you can either Control-click on the link and choose "Download Linked File As…", or you can Option-click on the link for the file and it will be downloaded to your Download folder (usually your Desktop).
If you want to view a PDF file in Safari, you don't need Adobe Reader; Safari is perfectly capable of doing this by itself and has been for years. Adobe Reader will only get in the way and slow everything down.

  • Unable to send mail link from Safari

After updating to Yosemite, I am unable to email a link from Safari's toolbar. The same thing happens with Share, I see "no service". Can anybody assist?

This seems to be linked to a bug. We are all having issues and it seems linked to the no widgets problem also.
Alot of us have no built in widgets along with the Social Widget not working & Social Sharing including Email not working in Safari.
We found a manual fix for the widgets as seen on page 2 in this post.
How to get widgets in OS X notification center?
But we need Apple to patch the Social Widget and Social/Email Sharing in Safari as it worked in the Beta but not in the Final Release for most people including myself.

  • Email link from safari not sending

    Ipad 2 with ios 7.1.2
If I try to email a link from safari, an email window pops up, I can access my contacts, I can send the email. But although it appears to send, it does not arrive and is  not listed in the sent items.
I have tried rebooting my ipad,  reinstalling my gmail account, clearing the safari cache, but nothing is working. Please help!
    Thanks

I have the same problem. Mail is the default mail program. iPhoto, Aperture, and excel all send to and open Mail with the attachments.
    Things I have tried:
    repaired permissions, safe boot
I have deleted the mail account and created a new one. email works (send and receive)
    Reinstalled Mail using Pacifist
Reinstalled Safari 4 and it did not work; updated to 4.02 did not fix problem
Lastly I did an archive and install 10.5.6 did not work. All updates to 10.5.7 still not working
What file is corrupted to cause this so I can get rid of it, or edit it without erasing the drive?
    Thanks for the help

  • Emailed link from Safari now appears BELOW signature in Yosemite

In Yosemite, when trying to email a link from Safari, the link now appears BELOW my (long) signature. It used to appear ABOVE it.  Checking or unchecking the box in Mail Preferences>Signatures titled "Place signature above quoted text" has no effect on this.  Since signature is long, the link gets lost down at the bottom of the long signature.  Ideas?

Do you have the option set to place all attachments at the end of the message (Edit menu, Attachments)?
I don't know if that is what is happening, just a guess.
By pasting in a HyperLink, you are creating an attachmnt. Email is purely text-based. Anything not pure text is an attachment.

  • How to email a "link" from Safari?

Since upgrading to Lion I can't figure out how to send a "link" from a Safari page in Apple's Mail. Example: I am surfing "MacSurfer" and I click on a link to read it. I then decide to email the link to my daughter. I used to be able to open Mail and drag the URL into the body of the email. Now, in Lion, the URL of the link just says "Go To This Address". I can't seem to have both apps (Safari and Mail) open at the same time on my desktop. And what's up with the  "Go To This Address" thing in the URL so often?
I have both Mail and Safari each set up as "Full Screen" so they will be permanently stuck on a desktop in Mission Control. Could this have something to do with it?
I'm also running into another issue in Safari. If I click on a link and a new page opens many times there are no "traffic lights" (red, yellow, green in upper left of page) and the "Back" arrow is greyed out. Also, the contextual menu does not offer to go back. The only way to close the page is to quit, which causes me to close Safari all together.
    What am I missing?
And while I'm on my ***** fest here…I'm not thrilled with this new discussion board either. It wasn't broke, so why "fix" it? (Maybe I'm just getting old and don't adapt to change so well.) OK, I feel better now!

    Can someone help?
In Safari File: Mail:Link o This Page has stopped working on my macbook pro running Lion-- all of a sudden I am seeing this error message when I want mail a website link to someone:
An email message can’t be created to send the link because Safari can’t find an email application.
This message does not show when I click on a hyperlink within the body of a webpage viewed in Safari.
This does not happen in Firefox. The File: Mail Link works just fine. Maybe I should stop using Safari but I like it!!!
I checked all of the system preferences suggested in various support documents. Did I miss something?

  • Opening links from safari

Whenever i try to open a link to a document in Safari it downloads as an .eml file and when i open it, it opens in mail. How can i fix this, so it automatically downloads as an .mht file so it will open in word?

I suggest you to file a bug report regarding this issue: https://bugreport.apple.com/
I can confirm that Safari has serious issues with opening links from other applications. For example Content Guide links in Quicktime Player opens empty windows.

  • Mail link from Safari freezes?

When attempting to "mail link to this page" from Safari the screen goes to gray, and refuses to respond.  The only "fix" is to abandon the attempt.  Why is this happening and is there a solution?  It has happened on an increasing number of various sites.

HI and welcome to Apple Discussions...
    Try deleting this file. com.apple.Safari.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your Mac.
If that doesn't help, post a crash log.
How to locate a crash log:
    1. Open Finder.
    2. Click "Go" in the menu, then select "Go to Folder".
    3. Copy and paste this path into the Finder dialog:
~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/
    4. Click the Go button.
    5. Finder opens the folder containing the crash log. Look for a the crash file with a date field that looks like the most recent.

  • Possible For Address Link From Safari To Open In Maps?

The iPhone recognizes phone numbers and dates from Safari and will dial a number or launch Calendar if clicked. Shouldn't it recognize addresses and launch Maps if clicked? This would be especially helpful from Safari, where now I have to copy the address from Safari, launch Maps and paste it there. I want to think it did it when Google Maps was the standard maps app. Just a thought.

I looked into this. From what I read, I don't think this is
supposed to work from compiled help. It can work from WebHelp. What
you are looking for is a "named destination" in Acrobat, not a
"bookmark." Apparently these are two separate things, but the named
destination is accessed like an HTML bookmark, e.g. <A
HREF="filename.pdf#destination>. You can also use a page number,
    e.g. <A HREF="filename.pdf#page=4">
    Hope this helps.

  • Cannot send email links from Safari share button in iOS8

    Hi All:
This is a new one for, and not something I have experienced since link sharing was introduced. I am running iOS 8.1.1 on my iPhone 6. When I find a web page I want to share in Safari, I tap the Share icon, and the share sheet comes up. I select Mail, and a pre-populated email sheet appears. I can type text in the Message or Subject fields, but if I try to select a different sender address or enter a recipient address, the email message simply disappears. it's not in Mail trash or Drafts. It's just gone. This does not happen with my iPad mini 3 at all. Also does not happen on any of my family members' phones.
Obviously, I can Select,Copy,Paste the link into a manual email message. But sharing a link via email does not work in my phone. Any ideas besides a restore?
    TIA!

In Mail, select Mail > Preferences > General > Default email reader: Mail 5.2

  • Why can't I email a link from safari?

When I have a page up in Safari on my iPad2 and try to email it using the arrow button, it will not send. The email looks like it goes but my contacts don't receive it. Can someone help me to resolve this issue?

Try something basic first. Close Safari and reboot your iPad.
Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the Safari icon. Tap the home button twice.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Can't edit link from Safari

I had this problem several months ago.
I link a lot off my companies and my manuf site, but like to EDIT the link to read an actual sentence explaining the link.
    For instance, instead of:
    www.companyABC.com/version1_this_is modelnumber_X5/
I would like to type in:
This is the model I think is right for your immediate needs.
(highlighted in blue of course with a link)
A few months ago, I was instructed how to edit and make sure 'rich" text was being used.
Now it doesn't work at all anymore. What happened?
Was there another step added somehow in an software update?

Check that Mail is seet as the Default email reader in Mail Preferences>General.
