Link from Sun forum to Oracle forum?

Will there be a link on each of the forums.sun.com pages to the corresponding forums.oracle.com page?

Yes, we're working on that.

  • Transfer of account from Sun forums to Oracle

    Could anybody advise as to whom to contact to transfer ones record from the Sun forums to the present oracle forums. I have already posted several threads but to no avail. Is it expected that I start from scratch after bein a member of sun forums for over 10 years with around 5000 posts?
    In case anybody knows of any contact person please advise.

    I had added this to the relevant thread in the moderators' forum on 4 Oct, 2010
    what happened to my stats

  • You know, we could do with an FAQ link from this forum.

    So many questions come up time and again (e.g. I've just spotted the old .EXE question).

    Yeah didn't we have this discussion a couple of
    months ago? Wish they would actually do something
    about it.The problem is the "we" does the discussing. As long
    as "we" doesn't include Sun, nothing will happen. And
    Sun won't come out and play with the dirty kids.Yeah I figured that much. I really think they have mods just browsing the forums and laughing their asses and actually keep this shit around for their daily entertainment. They probably have "Funniest Post of the Week!" posted up in their offices every Friday where employees walk by and laugh at how pathetic this is.
    Just a thought...

    You asked "+I want to know whether Oracle 11g (11.1.0.7). support RHEL 5+"
    From the doc I linked earlier, you can read :
    "+The following are the operating system requirements for Oracle Database 11g Release 1:+
    +...+
    +Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5+"
    That is the answer to your question. Now if you changed your question regarding the matrix certification, the best way is to check the follwoing, help yourself :
    1. the Oracle Support Certification tool (http://support.oracle.com) - not free
    2. check the corresponding documentation (http://docs.oracle.com and look for the installation docs for the db version you want and OS) - free

  • Sun forums migration: sun forum links returned with google searches

    Old forums.sun.com posts returned in google searches don't dump you into the thread anymore. Instead you get the forums.oracle.com home page. I was able to find the actual thread by using Google's cache to get the title of the post, then searching for it within the forums. However I figure once the google cache is refreshed, that won't work anymore.
    Any idea on workarounds, or will the old sun forums threads ever properly point to forums.oracle.com? I understand that the info has been migrated, but it still needs to be searchable/findable.

    Ok, I just talked to our technical person, and the reason that threads do not redirecting is because (...) So anytime you need to fins something specific in a thread, you will need to do a search.Has the migration team considered adding an automatically generated post such as "this topic was migrated from the Sun forums, topicid=xyz"?
    At least this suggestion would enable to search the lost topic by its ID!
    The problem with manual searching is that often we have not much more info about the topic than the id in the link.
    The Google cache is just a temporary epipehnomenon, at some point such search results will not be returned. But there remains a lot of (now dangling) pointers to Sun forum topics everywhere across the Internet.
    You wouldn't have to search very far: in the very content that was migrated from Sun forums to OTN forums, there are tons of intra-forum links ("This question is answered in [url http://nowLostInAether]this topic", or "Please consider the shortcomings of thsi approach as described in [url http://nowLostInAether]that thread"). There is no clue as to which keyword search coold lead to the lost target, and even if it were returned by an educated guess search, there would be no way to make sure it's the correct target ("Please sure to use [url http://nowLostInAether]this apporach, because [url http://nowLoastInSPace.com]that other approach is completely flawed!").

  • Migrate Oracle Apps 11.5.10.2 from Sun solaris to RHE Linux 32 bit.

    We are migrating the Oracle Apps 11.5.10.2 from Solaris two node to Linux two node including the database Oracle 10.2.04 64 bit.
    Since the applications only support 32 bit we are not able to store CM tier in a 64 bit Linux so with this considerations we are going with the below plan.
    1. Install RHEL 5 as a 32 bit for two nodes ( One for DB/CM and FORMS/WEB)
    2. Migrate the applications and DB from Solaris to Linux as the same node configuration that is
    Node A:
    Oracle DB 10.2.0.4 64 bit ( SUN oS 10 64bit) -> Oracle 10.2.0.5 32bit (RHEL 5 32 bit)
    Oracle Apps CM 11.5.10.2 (SUN OS 10 64bit) -> Oracle apps CM 32 bit(RHEL 5 32 bit)
    Node B:
    Oracle apps 11.5.10.2 forms (sun OS 10) -> Oracle apps 11.5.10.2 forms ( RHEL 5 32bit)
    Oracle apps WEB 11.5.10.2 (SUN OS 10) -> Oracle apps WEB 11.5.10.2 ( RHEL 5 32 bit).
    Question : 1. Did you see any snag on this kind of migration
    2. Any documentation to migrate the Oracle APPS 11i 10.2.0.4-64 bit database from Sun Solaris to oracle apps 11i 10.2.0.5-32 bit on Linux

    Hi,
    1. Did you see any snag on this kind of migrationWhy would you downgrade the db from 64 bit to 32 bit. As 32 Bit has lot of memory limitations.
    You could keep the database on 64 bit for linux too.
    2. Any documentation to migrate the Oracle APPS 11i 10.2.0.4-64 bit database from Sun Solaris to oracle apps 11i 10.2.0.5-32 bit on Linux Please see

  • How could I create a "Linked Server" link from SQL Server 2008R2 64-Bit to Oracle Database 11.2 64-Bit?

    How could I create a "Linked Server" link from SQL Server 2008R2 64-Bit to Oracle Database 11.2 64-Bit?
    Let's say the SQL Server and Oracle Database are in the same Company Internet Network.
    I have the code, but I do not know how to use it. Such as what is System DSN Name? Where could I get it. What does it look like?
    Do I need to install any Oracle Client Software in order to link from SQL Server to Oracle? Or SQL Server has the built-in drivers installed already that I can directly create a Linked Server from SQL Server to Oracle?
    I need to know details. Thanks.
    USE master
    go
    EXEC sp_addlinkedserver
         @server  = '{Linked Server Name}'
        ,@srvproduct = '{System DSN Name}'
        ,@provider  = 'MSDASQL'
        ,@datasrc  = '{System DSN Name}'
    EXEC sp_addlinkedsrvlogin
         @rmtsrvname = '{Linked Server Name}'
        ,@useself  = 'False'
        ,@locallogin = NULL
        ,@rmtuser  = '{Oracle User Name}'
        ,@rmtpassword = '{Oracle User Password}'

    You need an OLE DB provider for Oracle. There is one that ships with Windows, but it only supports very old versions of Oracle. Oracle has an OLE DB provider that you can use. I don't know if it's part of Oracle Client or how it is bundled.
    You should not use MSDASQL or any DSN.

  • Installation BOBJ XI 3 on UNIX ( Sun Solaris ) with Oracle database

    Hi All,
    I want to deploy and install BOBJ XI Enterprise 3.1 on Sun Solaris with oracle database.
    My question is, do we need to add some oracle licenses stuff in BOBJ XI Enterprise server or we just using a connection from Sun Solaris to oracle database ?
    Pls Advise,
    Rgds,
    Denny

    Hi Denny,
    the risk is the same whatever DB server you are using. Once you have a setup where more than one application access the server, overload caused by one application can influence the performance of the other ones. You have to check if your DB vendor offers tools to monitor and limit the load on your DB server. But we are talking hypothetically now. I would recommend to check what's the actual load on your oracle DB server. If the server is not working at the limit (let's over 80% all the time), then I think that you can try to install BOBJ also in an existing oracle instance on the oracle server. You can reduce the risk and make the maintenance easier if you setup a dedicated oracle instance on your DB server just for the BOBJ repository.

  • Why does bridge_scripting forum link disappeared from bridge forum?

    I know this photoshop forum, but... I need to create this discussion here.
    When I go here: http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop
    I have a link to Bridge Forum (http://forums.adobe.com/community/bridge?view=overview).
    But I can't find anymore the link to bridge_scripting forum.
    Although, it exists and it is alive:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/bridge/bridge_scripting
    Does this mean that scripting development within Bridge will be abandoned?
    Why?
    And all the UI bugs cs6 and cc have in Bridge scripting won't be corrected? That's it and period?
    This doesn't make sense.
    Why there is no more clear information regarding this?
    And, yes, I have already signed this comment on http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family
    several times and nothing for months.

    When i was trying to find bridge_scripting forum, and i didn't remember the adress anymore (I was on another computer) I did as I have done some time before.
    I went to bridge general forum:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/bridge?view=overview
    and i search down on the right column for the link to bridge_scriting forum.
    I doesn't exist anymore and it was there before.

  • How to make data base link from oracle 11g r2 to microsoft sql 2008 express

    I need to make data base link from oracle 11g r2 to microsoft sql 2008 express to make replication between then
    please help me !
    I didn't know what is the user and password in the command which create database link

    To replicate data you can ude Database Gateway for ODBC or Database Gatewy for MS SQl Server. Please use the search engine of this forum if you ant to get more details about each product.
    Some SQl Servers are set up to use Windows authentication only. In this case you won't be able to connect to the SQL Server as Windows authentication isn't supported with the gateways. You have to make sure your SQL server is supporting username and password authentication - a common user is the "sa" user. Regarding the username/password, please get in touch with your SQL Server Admin.

  • Please migrate my Sun Forums reputation

    Both the Oracle and Sun forums list the join date and number of posts next to your user name.
    This means that Oracle must think that these metrics have some sort of value to the user's reputation.
    Since the metrics are considered valuable, please offer a way to migrate my [albeit mediocre] reputation from the Sun forums.
    Thanks.

    Thanks.Oddly enough, the mere existence of the metrics only loosely implies their value. Someone may easily have been doing the same thing over and over for decades, learning little. Some people may add their own mental context to another's posts, and so may completely disagree with a third person's judgment. Yes, most people with many posts and a funny little playing card may be better than average, but there are certainly those who come in and just drop our jaws with a few posts - good or bad.
    I personally have some emotional investment in my name and start date - which may itself be a measure of antediluvian thought - so I understand and sympathize with your concern, and second your plea for our new friends. I just feel compelled to point out there have been discussions about how worthwhile these kinds of metrics are. Between developers and DBA's, we can beat a skeletal pliocene horse...
