Link in Published IE won't open

I published a vendor's web page on Windows 2008 R2 (RDS) for our users.   There is a link on the webpage that launches an app (Panaya Test Player)
If I log onto the desktop of the session host and click the link that launches the player, it launches.
However, I am publishing the web page as a published app. When I click the same link in the published app, nothing happens.
What is the difference between the desktop and published app that would prevent the app from launching?  The RDS server has IE 9.

Hi,
Please provide more technical details in regards to Panaya Player.  For example:
Is it a ClickOnce application?
When you launch it from a full desktop connection, what exactly happens?  Describe the initial sequence of windows/prompts/etc. that come up after clicking the link.
What precisely does the link that launches the player point to?  You may be able to tell by hovering over it with your mouse, or you may need to look at the page source for more details.
Thanks.
-TP
When you click the link from the desktop client there is a pop up that says "verifying application requirements. This may take a few moments." Then another Pop Up appears that says "Launching Panaya Test Player" and "Connecting to
web site".  The pop up blocker is off in the browser in the published app and on the desktop.
It does look like a click once app. When you hover over the link it has an anchor tag:
https://my.panaya.com/# but the source shows it should connect to another URL for the download:

  • Links in e-mail won't open!

Links won't open when I click them in the e-mail that I'm reading!
    What's up with that?
I have tried all the preference options that I could find in Mail, Safari, and Firefox.
(The "set default browser" preference in Safari makes no difference!)
I also searched all over the apple site to no avail!
The inability to follow links in e-mail, renders this application useless!
Please help me resolve this problem!

My experience hasn't been anything like yours and I've been using Macs since the Apple IIe which didn't have a hard drive. I've always used PCs and Windows at work so I have extensive experience with both platforms and my personal money has never been spent on a PC running Windows and it never will. I'll live without a computer first.
There are alternatives to purchasing MS Word for OS X which are compatible with Word and don't cost a dime. If you did some checking on things like this instead of being more concerned about not having access to Google Maps, you would have saved some money. The beta version of Google Maps for OS X is available BTW.
Do you believe Microsoft Office or Word is included with every PC/Windows purchase at no charge?
    Think again.
If most of the OS X users are perfectly happy, then why are these discussion forums so immense?
For one, these Discussions are the equivalent to a Hospital ward for Macs. There are nothing but problems reported here and this represents a very small percentage of all Mac users. When you visit someone at a Hospital, do you leave the Hospital believing EVERYONE in that city or town must be sick since the Hospital is full of patients? Or when visiting any car dealership regardless the make, seeing their repair and service shop full of cars coming to the conclusion that make must be defective or the owners must not be perfectly happy or they wouldn't have their cars in for repair or service?
Visit Dell's forum or the equivalent of the Apple Discussions if you want to see immense and their large number of satisfied customers. Based on your logic about this, I wouldn't consider going anywhere near a Dell computer after visiting Dell's forum.
I can go on and one but hopefully you get the point.
I hope they're paying you well to deal with jerk-os like me!
This is a user to user help forum only that is provided and moderated by Apple. People that post here with helpful suggestions volunteer their time and are not paid by Apple.
Unfortunately, if this company continues on this same course,
your next paycheck won't include any commissions from my purchases!
With your attitude, you should sell your Mac and all software on eBay or wherever and purchase a Windows PC. Get ready to fork over additional money for Microsoft Office which is not included with every PC purchase and don't forget about purchasing Firewall and Antivirus protection since you'll need it. If you believe owning and using a Windows PC will be less trouble free, you are in for a big surprise and rude awakening.
    Good luck.

  • The links in my email won't open

For some reason the links in emails won't open up.  When I click on a link in an email it just says Error: no associated application could be found.

It would help us to know which  OS & version you're using, which model MBP, which email client & version etc. You can have this info displayed on the bottom of every post by completing your system profile and filling in the information asked for.
This will help in providing you with the proper and/or correct solutions.

  • Suddenly my published presentations won't open

After months of no problems, suddenly my published presentation won't load. When I click index.htm, the adobe icon just spins endlessly.
The data folder does contain swfs for all the slides.
I have the 7.0.7 version. I haven't done anything unusual to any of the slides lately--just have been beavering away, adding and editing content as usual. Never had any problems until now.
Here's what I've tried--none of these actions made any difference:
    repairing Presenter
    uninstalling and reinstalling Presenter
saving as PPT and then publishing]
    deleting all the quiz slides
deleting all the placeholders on my template slides (not a viable solution anyway, I am required to use a corporate template).
What can I do? I am on a strict deadline, anyhelp will be appreciated.

OK, I found a fix: I copied all the files into a new presentation, which built into a new presentation that displayed just fine.
So somehow my original file got corrupted.
It's good to document this fix here so that others can find it. It does not seem to be documented on the web. Maybe it's common knowledge, but not to relatives newbies I'm guessing.
fingers crossed that this fixed it.

  • Links from other programs won't open in Firefox

This has been asked a number of times before, but none of the answers worked for me. I have Firefox 26.0 (the most stable for me) and Thunderbird 24.6.0. After a computer crash and reloading both programs, I first noticed the problem with links from Thunderbird, both clicking and right clicking with "open in browser". But then I remembered trying to open help in MS word and Frontpage which are supposed to open from the internet.
I have checked that Firefox is the default browser, changed the file (none) file transfer protocol, then deleted it, etc. Nothing helps.

I now have FireFox 32.0.2 no joy. I have loaded ThunderBrowse which took care of Thunderbird but still can't load links from other programs. I fixed this before (other backups, I crashed my windows C drive and have been trying to restore), but can't remember how. I think it required reloading IE (I had deleted IE on my latest restore), but I have now done that with no joy.
When I click on a link from another program, nothing happens, and when I right click and am offered "open in browser" nothing happens, and when offered " copy browser link" it doesn't copy.
I tried resetting FireFox, no joy.
Noticed control panel "set program access" doesn't hold, always goes back to custom, and defaults to "uses default browser"!
    Please help!

"The file may not be supported by AOL, AOL will try to open it as a text file if you choose to continue" how to fix? and yeah, I know, ditch AOL and all that good stuff, but I have so many things tied into my email address that it's not in the cards atm..

That file might have moved to a different location on the server. I think you'll need to check with RefWorks support or your local IT department on why the install page links do not work.

  • Links within a pdf won't open in Safari, but work fine on Explorer, Firefox

I created a pdf with embedded links and posted it to my site. The links within the pdf work just fine with Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, but they will not open with Safari, neither on a Mac nor on a Windows platform.
Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Try this. In the Safari window, click the Preferences icon right side of page.
    Then select the General tab.
At the bottom of that window, below, "Open links from applications", choose the option you want.

  • Certain links on the iPad won't open on some sites...

So we have two websites which we'd like to make sure look good and work correctly on iPads and iPhones. One is the production site and one is the development site. Both sites currently have the exact same code.
When accessing links on the iPad, only those on the dev site open when touched. Links on the production site don't react when touched unless a user holds their finger down on it to open the "open in a new tab" dialog box.
The sites are hosted on different servers. Both are running Linux distributions.
The site does this in both Safari and Chrome. Resetting the iPad and clearing cache and history have no effect.
    Please help! Thanks.

  • Numerous websites linked to desktop icons won't open with Firefox as my default browser, but will when I subsequently designate Internet Explorer as the default browser. However, when I select IE, I cannot open Firefox. How do I fix this? CharlieA

When I designate Firefox as my default browser, I cannot open any destop link to any website, except Mozilla. When I change that designation to Internet Explorer, I can open all destop linked websites, except for Firefox. What do I do?

Sometimes Windows gives you weird error messages when you click a link in another program or double-click a desktop shortcut. These messages usually occur only when Firefox was closed and has to be launched before the link can be loaded. Is that what you're getting? This occurs when Firefox's registry settings get crossed up, as described in this article: [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Windows_error_opening_Internet_shortcut_or_local_HTML_file_-_Firefox Windows error opening Internet shortcut or local HTML file - Firefox - MozillaZine Knowledge Base].
If that isn't it, what happens exactly?

  • Publisher 2013 won't open a .pub file

Using Publisher 2013 from Office 365 Home Premium, I can't open some .pub file I had no problem opening the previous day. I get the message "Publisher has detected a problem in the file you are trying to open. To protect your computer, Publisher will
    not open the file." Suggestions?

Type the following into Notepad and save  with the .reg file extension:

  • Why are web addresses posting in mostly gray?  lots of links provided in emails won't open.  I'm using Firefox 11.0 on a brand new i-Mac.  Surely there's a setting I'm getting wrong.  Thanks.

    Same as in title.

    Do a backup.
    Quit Mail.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Go to Library/Containers/com.apple.mail.  Move the folder com.apple.mail to your desktop. You must move the entire folder, not just the contents.
Restart, re-launch Mail and test. If the problem is solved, recreate any required Mail settings and import any emails you want to save from the folder on the desktop. You can then put the folder in the Trash. If the problem remains, return the folder to where you got it replacing the one that is there.

  • Skype won't open links

When someone sends a link on skype it won't open anymore. A few days ago it was working but then one day it just stopped. I have a Mac and I've been using Google Chrome.

    Hello,
Can you please confirm that the problem you are facing is different from the one reported earlier - [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/961242 Firefox not opening links from Skype].
Or is the issue that there is no activity when you click on a link from Skype. Do other links (say in Outlook / Word) open Firefox when you click them? We want to narrow this down to see if this is a Skype specific issue.
    Thank you
