Link my Macbook to my TV?

Simple question right? Just want to use my Macbook via my TV using the "air mouse" app on the iPhone. I have to keep my computer close to a window for a WiFi signal. (yes, I'm getting my own internet hooked up next week, but until the cable guy comes out I'm using an unsecured signal that airport is picking up. I just want to be able to sit on my couch and surf.
TIA

It is likely with a new MacBook(Pro) that you have 10.5.6 or 10.5.7, not 10.5.5 as in your signature.
Get the mini-DVI to HDMI adapter for ~$20 from Apple or ~$10 from Monoprice. It is only an 8" pigtail. Add the HDMI cable length you need to reach the TV under the carpet or as needed. Set up the screens in the Display Prefs.
This works fine except I'm not sure about closing the hood and not having it sleep--just display off. Then you would need an external keyboard and mouse--possibly Bluetooth.

  • Monster iTV Link for Macbook- Mini-DVI ports different...

I have been watching movies etc. on my TV through my 14" G4 iBook for the last year using the Monster iTV Link with the mini-DVI end. I recently bought a Macbook and expected to do the same with it, but the mini-DVI ports are a different shape!
I have scoured the internet for some information on different mini-DVI ports but have come up short. Can someone explain why Apple would install a different mini-DVI port on the Macbook? Or not install an S-video?
Regardless of why they did this, I now need a new adapter or Monster needs to make a new iTV Link cable for Macbook. Has anyone seen an iTV link for Macbook? Is there one out there I can use?
I am assuming my other option is to buy the mini-DVI to video adapter, use the audio part of the Monster cable I currently have and get a S-Video cable. However before I acquire more cables and adapters...
Can someone confirm that the the Mini-DVI end of the Mini-DVI to Video adapter is the correct shape (version) for the MacBook.
    THANKS
    Macbook Intel, 14" G4 iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
It would appear the Monster guy is confused what cable you got. The iTV cable I bought up on Google has the standard round-din S-Video connector found on 15" and 17" Powerbook G4s of the same generation, but I don't think that is found on the 12" Powerbook. What you need is a DVI to S-Video connector to hook up the iTV cable from all indications.

When I try to link my Macbook to my TV, I cannot find the "Arrangement" button that would lead me to "Mirror Display". Please help!

The Arrangement tab only appears in System Preferences Displays pane if a second display is recognized by the system (the OS).  So it seems like your MacBook is not seeing the TV as being connected.
Describe the video connection between MacBook and TV...  What type of video out port does your MacBook model have?  How is it converted to the type of port used on the TV?

  • Imation Link and Macbook Pro i7

Recently purchase an Imation Link for our conference room (wireless HD video). http://www.imation.com/en-us/Imation-Products/Link-Wireless-AV-Extender1/
It works for every PC and Mac in our company but mine (and is insanely cool). I am running a Macbook Pro i7. Guess that early adopter think is hurting me again.
The product uses a DisplayLink chipset. DisplayLink's most recent driver does not fix the issue. I get nothing but snow when after installation and have to safe-boot to uninstall. Wondering if anyone else using anything similar has found a workaround?
    Thanks in advance, Jay

Hi Thomas - The DisplayLink website indicates a known issue between the chipset and drivers of the Imation Link device and the Intel Core i5 and i7 devices. The suggested workaround is disabling the automatic graphics switching. This DisplayLink workaround is at http://www.displaylink.com/support/ticket.php?id=300. Hope this helps. • Samsung Link and MacBook Pro?

Finally I found a solution for that. It is in monitor Menu -> Input -> Edit Name -> HDMI set it to PC and picture quality improves to the same as DVI input.

  • How best to link 2 MacBook Pros and use extended desktop

OK- I have two MacBook Pros- one 13" MacBook Pro 2.66GHz and one older 15" 2.4GHz but generally only use the smaller 13".  Since I quite like using my Final Cut Pro on my Mac for HOURS on end, I would reap benefit of being able to rope in the older one for extra "extended" desktop space.
I understand that I am probably going to have to use something like Screen Recycler?  Because I cannot see the option to use "extended desktop" on System Preference (which may be because, as yet, they are not linked) but is that the best option?
Also- what physical connection should I make between the two?  What cable?
Please and thanks kind people on this Oh So New And Shiny Forum.

ScreenRecycler is your only option, but you may find that the second screen isn't responsive enough for video editing. An external monitor would be greatly preferable to using your second MBP that way.
You can read all about how it works and how to connect your machines on the ScreenRecycler web site.

  • Automatically Link Contacts Macbook Pro

I have contact cards w/ same names in both my Google and iCloud accounts. I know how to manually link the contacts. However, in the help section of the Contacts app on Macbook Pro, it states, "
If you have more than one card for a contact, you can combine them, preserving all the unique information.
If the contact cards are in different accounts: You can link them, which retains the separate cards, but displays the combined contact information in one card.   If contacts have the same name, the cards are linked automatically.
So apparently, it should "automatically" link contact cards that have the same name. This would save alot of time compared to manually linking them. However, I'm finding that it IS NOT automatically linking cards w/ same name.  I have Google, FB, LinkdIn, and iCloud contact cards w/ same name. It automatically links my Google (default account) w/ FB and LinkdIn cards. But it doesn't autolink my Google and iCloud cards. Anyone having similar issue/know fix? Or am I misunderstanding the Help Section's statement?  Thanks!

Which account (on your phone) is set as the default?

  • Trying to link my macbook and iMac...not sure of what to ask!

HELP! I just got an iMac and am trying to network my macbook to it. I found a tutorial online and got to the point where i check off "File sharing" in the Sharing section of system preferences but then I got lost. I think it was because the tutorial was a few years old and it may be different now. It did say to write down this number 192.168.1.103 but then I never reached a point where I was asked to enter it. I can see my macbook from my iMac but it says I do not have access to it.
Can anyone help? I apologize for not knowing the proper lingo or sounding like an idiot!

try if Niel's suggestion in this thread help: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12176453#12176453.

  • Link my Macbook with an existing time machine backup of the same macbook.

I am using time machine via an airport extreme with an external drive. This works fine most of the time. But sometimes time machine loses the connection with the airport extreme. Instead of refinding the backup location I have to set the whole thing up again and the macbook will start a complete new backup instead of taking the existing backup as a starting point. How can I tell time machine to use the ols backup as a starting point?

No. Only those Apps that are not installed on the new will migrate over.

  • Create wifi link from macbook pro

I am wondering if there is a way to send a wifi signal from my macbook pro so I can use my iphone wirelessly in my hotel room.  The laptop is connected by an
ethernet cable provided by the hotel and gets a good connection.
    Thanks,

    Thomas,
Thanks for the response, however, when I click on Internet sharing the choices on the right are 'ghosted' out and I cannot select "Share the Ethernet over Airport."
    Thoughts?

  • Can I hard wire a link between Macbook Air and Mac Pro?

My Macbook Air currently connects to my office network using WiFi.
But for some reason it takes 20 hours to load new software onto the Air using disc sharing from my Mac Pro, the fastest of my desktops.
The transfer is over Wi-Fi and involves several Gb of data, but it seems excessively slow.
Is there any way of hard-wiring the Air to the Pro to allow faster installation?
The Air has both Thunderbolt and USB sockets, whilst the Pro has USB and Firewire.
    Many thanks,
    Bristly Badger

I would suggest to use a Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter with the Air. Disconnect the MacPro from the Network, simply connect the cable to the MacBook Air's Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter instead. Wait a few seconds until both computers have picked self-assigned IP Addresses, and the shared disk should show up on the MacBook Air. Speed will be 100MB/s. In other words, 10GB will transfer in two minutes. (If the Pro's disks can keep up, that is...)

  • TS4062 ipod calendar does not link to macbook

I believe I have tried all of the suggested remedies to allow calendar entries on the ipod to transfer to the macbook, via usb cable,  the last time this happened I found a fix but have not been able to locate it this time.

Okay, do you use iCloud or just local calendar?
If you do use iCloud, then open Calendar and go to Calendar>Preferences...>Accounts and log in to the same iCloud account as you use on your iPod. Everything will come back.
If you use local calendar, then I'm afraid I won't be able to help you. There may or may not be a way to transfer a local calendar from your iPod to your Mac. If there is, I don't know how; I'll have to leave that to someone else.

  • Can I move Itunes from a pc based external hard drive on to a Time Capsule linked to Macbook Air? Is Timecapsule a good backup option for a 'silver surfer'?

I have a Macbook Air, iPod and old pc with external hard drive. My iTunes is on the pc which I sync with my iPod. I am thinking of buying a Timecapsule for backing up Macbook. At the  sametime would it make sense/be easy to move iTunes library on to new Timecapsule and access it from Macbook?  Or would I have to store the iTunes library on Macbook internal drive? (pc is getting old and will eventually be binned).  Thanks in advance

if I ran an eithernet cable through my flat
you could do that - or you could employ a pair of *powerline adapters* _*such as these*_.
either way, as William pointed out, it will boost syncing speed and improve reliability.
Or can I attached an external hard drive to the time capsule, set it us as a network drive and then set that drive in the iTunes preferences as where to where its media folder is?
yes. my test iTunes library lives on an external HD hanging off my TC and, using a hardwired connection, data transfer speeds are more than sufficient for what you intend to do.
in fact, i would recommend the external drive connected to the TC over using the TC itself. one reason is that you will not be able to backup what is on the TC's drive using time machine. also, if the TC croaks and needs to be replaced, it will be difficult to retrieve the data from it.
an external HD, otoh, could be connected to you Mac periodically and backed up to another external HD using free apps such as _*Carbon Copy Cloner*_.

I have an older macbook pro and a newer one. The newer one will not start up and show the drive. Keeps coming up

Depending on what video input you have on your TV you will need to purchase a mini dvi to xxx adaptor to display images on your TV
