Link Photos back to thumbnails when getting exclamation point?

I am getting an exclamation point when I click on certain thumbnails after my wife moved some photos by accident. It will be a total pain to reimport and such. We have found the photos that match the thumbnails...so we have say Photo1 at 170x180 or whatever and Photo1 at 3,270x1000...is there a way to tell iPhoto that the big Photo1 belongs to Photo1 the thumbnail? Rejoin them as it were?

Sorry but it won't.
The Poster on this thread is try to recover from moving things in his/her iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder: he knows what was done and it was deliberately (if in error).
You, on the other hand
I haven't modified that file, that I know of anyway.
have done nothing like this and it sounds like your db needs rebuilding.
You have a Mini with a MS keyboard? Have you tried posting on the Mini forum to see if anyone there knows equivalent keys?

Have you recently deleted photos using the finder or run clean up software?  Is so restore your backup
If not the backup your iPhoto Library and launch iPhoto while depressing the option and command keys. Rebuild your database

  • Where do photos backed up from iPhone get saved to?

Where do photos backed up from iPhone get saved to?

Had you read the instructions in the link provided, you wouldn't be asking.
All iPhoto photos are stored in a package. Moving the package to a new location moves ALL iPhoto photos and when selecting the iPhoto library package at the new location to launch iPhoto, iPhoto detects where the new location for the package is stored.

I cant seem to open some photos on Iphoto. I downloaded like 3 months ago from my phone into the iphoto. I could access ALL of my photos back then but when I try and access them now I cant seem to open the file. When i open iphoto and open the folder thats on it, i can see ALL the photos that are there but when I click on different ones some appear in the larger screen but A LOT of them dont appear. Iphoto seems to have erased the file or I dont know.
Also I tried clicking on the photo that doesnt appear and making it "Reveal it on finder" - "original file" and it says 'The operation can’t be completed because the item can’t be found.".
I really want those photos because they involve a really special family vacation, please help me find those photos

A LOT of them dont appear.
What do you see in the window when you click on those?  A blank, black window?  An exclamation mark?  What?

  • My air is getting exclamation point in internet recovery mode

my macbook air is getting exclamation point during internet recovery mode? help?

Reset the TC to factory and start again.
Use all SMB type names for wireless and base station.. Not apple type names.. this is more important since Mavericks.
I also recommend different names for the different bands.
    So for example.
TC name.. TCgenx (I use whatever the generation number is for the x.. eg TCgen4 or latest one TCgen5)
    WIreless name.. TC24ghz for 2.4ghz
    TC5ghz for 5ghz
You can also set the channel manually.
If you still have issues.. start with no security and then if it fails to connect there is something seriously wrong with the laptop. Did you upgrade install Mavericks?? That can lead to driver issues.. I would recommend a clean install.

  • When I click on my uploaded photos a big box with an exclamation point pops up?

After loading my photos on Iphoto when I click the photo to try and view it larger or at all, a grey box with an exclamation point comes onto the screen. How do I view my photos?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • On bulitine boards the visited links revert back to unvisited when I close and reopen Firefox

This began today. When I either shut down and restart the Mac or close and reopen Firefox the links that I had already read revert back to unread status. This began today for no apparent reason.
I am running 3.6 because every time I would update the a newer version this same problem would happen, up to now it did not happen on 3.6.

Some bulletin boards load threads in a frame and in such a case is the visited state not kept after you close Firefox.
If it happens with all links then make sure that the history is enabled.
This can also be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • Instead of my photo's I just see an exclamation point

When I am in my iPhoto I can't see some pictures when viewing the album and then when I click on them I get an !  Are they lost forever or is it in iPhoto issue?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • When i try to enlarge a photo why is it i get an exclamation point?  it's not on ever photo.  only some.

when i try to enlarge a photo why is it i get a black screen with an exclamation point?  it's not every photo but it is many.

The exclamation point means that iPhoto has broken the link to the original file.  Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Often when plugging a device into a computer (which has not been discussed if this has ever happened) one will be given the auto play option of transferring photos/data from the mobile device to the computer. Did you ever transfer the photos from your device to a computer?

  • HT1589 problems with itunes after updating..can't locate some of my songs..some have an exclamation point beside them how do i get these songs back in my itunes

I'm having problems with itunes after updating. I've lost all my playlists,,finally played around with it and got the songs back but some have an exclamation point beside them and can't be located. they are songs i've purchased. I'm not very computer literate so this is a major problem. I have spent hours with this. I just want all my songs to play even though I'm not happy that I have to recreate my playlists. It would be so much easier if I knew and understood how to correct this. Has anyone else had this problem and if so..is there an easy way to correct it?

Not sure how this is an ipod touch question.
Perhaps you should post in the itunes forum.

  • CD and Exclamation Point

I left my iPod (I have the original one) on the shelf for over a year and when I finally took it down I had the feeling it had lost all its charge. So, I charged it up and now all it has is a CD and Exclamation Point instead of the many songs in there. Even if I reset by holding down Menu and the center button, it goes right back to the CD and exclamation point. Can anyone help? Thanks!

    Hello all,
I believe the story about fixing the iPod with the above problem by dropping it on the carpetted floor with the waist height. As the HD of the iPod could be stuck at one point and the needle can't move, thats why it shows the folder or CD exclmation point, but, we may running the risk that by dropping it, which may causes a bad sector on it. If you cannot find alternative way to solve and the warranty also got expired, you have no choice. Having said that, I strongly suggest that a broken Mac's iPod can be fixed by a PC or vince verse. As when it got connect, it will mount but cant be read, therefore it requires a re-format. As the format version of PC and Mac is differently, by formatting in a different way may force the needle to move in another way rather than stuck at one point.

  • When I create an album and then try to watch it in slideshow, I get only a black screen with a white title.  No photos come up.  Also when I click on an individual photo in the album, I get a white exclamation point on a black background but no big photo.

When I create an album of photos and then open the album and try to watch it by selecting "slideshow" I get only a black screen.  The white title comes up briefly but then no photos, only a black screen.  Also when I go back to the album and click on a thumbnail, up comes a big white exclamation point on a black background instead of the enlarged photo.  Any idea what's going on?
