Link to anchor question

Good afternoon all,
In my project, I'm trying to link to an anchored location on an external webpage, in this form,
"http://www.website.com/page#anchor"
Doesnt seem to be working. A quick search returns this, "Text Anchor and Shared Destination hyperlinks are not supported."
Am I interpreting this correctly -- I can't link out from my folio to an anchor on an external page? Or am I doing something wrong?
thanks,
dw

Solved. User-error.
The link as used works fine. I was using a shortened URL which was losing the #anchor when it redirected.

  • Anchor Question

I have an anchor question - I've tried this 2 ways and both work as I expect with Firefox but not IE6.
I have a search box on top - in the region header I put:
    <div id="criteria">Footer has:
</div>Then I have a link in the bottom of another region on the same page like:
<a href="#criteria">Return to Criteria</a>As expected it jumps right to the top of the page in Firefox. For whatever reason in IE6 its refreshing the entire page and THEN jumping to the top. Also tried with an anchor like:
<a name="criteria"></a>To no avail either. What am I doing wrong here?

    Hi,
I think it may be to do with where the cursor can be positioned. The link is asking the browser to "go to that item" type of thing, so it must move the cursor (thereby bringing the item into view). As DIV tags don't, in themselves, have any standard functionality that requires the cursor (leaving aside onkeyup's etc), I assume that browsers would handle this in different ways - either pretending that the DIV accepts the cursor or moving to the next nearest cursor-accepting item.
But, nodding my head as well, if you've fixed it by moving the DIV tag, that must have been the right thing to do ;)

  • Link to anchor in another page?

I'm trying to link to an anchor in another page, as opposed
to the same page. Is this possible? Can I do it using a hotzone
    instead of text?
I found this but it seems to only want to link to an anchor
    on the same page -
    http://www.uwec.edu/HELP/Dreamweaver8/lnk-target.htm
    Any help much appreciated.

    Yes it is possible.
In the properties dialog insert the page containing the named
anchor into the link edit box.
At the end of the link add #anchor name.
    For example:
    link:
    index.htm#anchorname

  • Scrolling down and using links to anchors aren't in sync

This video shows a site I'm creating.  I start in design mode.  Then I click to preview.  As I Scroll down and the page stops too soon.  When I use the links to anchors it goes all the way down.  How can I get the page to work the same when scrolling as it does when using links to anchors?
I noticed that when I use the links to anchors the bottom portion of the menu gets pushed down a couple of inches.  That seems to be the problem.  Why does using anchors do this and how can I fix it?

You want to precompose your stills and the track mattes together.  The composition should look like the stills with a rounded rectangle border.  Then animate the composition.

  • How do I link to Anchor Text from browser to PDF file exported from InDesign?

I see that this question was asked previously but not answered:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3737541
I need a way to link to topics (from an HTML page) within a structured PDF file generated from InDesign, i.e. one that has an interactive bookmarks
panel, that doesn't break the links when the file is updated.
In particular, I don't want to refer to:
    *  page numbers because the document will repaginate when it is updated, breaking existing links
    * named destinations that are numeric as addition/deletion of topics renumbers the named destinations, breaking the links.
Is there any option in InDesign that creates named destinations derived from bookmark titles as that would seem to solve my problem?
I have a similar need, but I have not been able to find an answer anywhere online, even after a several hours of research.
I am on contract with General Electric to develop a UI Style Guide for an international team of developers. My client wants to be able to distribute the Style Guide as a PDF document, but needs to provide links to specific topics when submitting a "Story" in an Agile development environment to the programmers.
Ideally, I would like to be able to create "named destinations" in InDesign such that I can provide the client with a list of URLs similar to this format:
    file:\\StyleGuide\Test1-20131024a.pdf\#nameddest=AnchorText-01
However, I can not figure out how to create "named destinations" in the PDF file from the InDesign file in which I have created the Anchor Text in the Hyperlinks tab.
Alternately, the client would be satisfied with the ability to link to specific bookmarks in the exported PDF file that have been derived from the configuration of the Table of Contents styles, but my research has led me to believe that it is not possible to hyperlink from a browser window to a bookmark in a PDF file (only to specific page numbers, search word lists, named destinations, and comments) as described here: http://blogs.adobe.com/tcs/2011/01/tcs-specific/linking-to-a-page-within-a-pdf-and-more.ht ml
Having been using InDesign since 1988, when it was PageMaker, I would prefer to use it to provide GE with the most attractive deliverable, but they are now leaning heavily toward having me licensed with Madcap Flare, which has this capability built in:
    http://webhelp.madcapsoftware.com/flare9/Default.htm#Nav_Links/Named_Destinations/Creating _Named_Destinations.htm
Please help me to find a solution that will allow me to continue using InDesign for this project.
    Thank you!

Follow-up post (solution is not available):
I have just completed a phone call with Gaurev Sethi of Adobe escalated technical support in which I shared my screen to explain and demonstrate the desire to link from an external URL to a specific location within a PDF file that has been exported from InDesign. After 40 minutes, during which I was placed on hold a few times while he consulted with his team, it was determined that the desired functionality is not supported in InDesign and has been identified as a limitation of the software.
In researching alternate documentation software that supports PDF export, I discovered that Madcap Software supports this functionality in its Flare product:
    http://webhelp.madcapsoftware.com/flare9/Default.htm#Nav_Links/Named_Destinations/Creating _Named_Destinations.htm
Note that linking via URL to a bookmarked location within a PDF is not supported:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/tcs/2011/01/tcs-specific/linking-to-a-page-within-a-pdf-and-more.ht ml
More about parameters that can be specified to open PDF files are available here:
    http://www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/acrobat/pdfs/pdf_open_parameters.pdf
Although the above link is for a previous version of Acrobat, I could find no evidence to the contrary in the current SDK documentation.

  • How to put links (name anchors) in a dynamic generated page

I have a page (results.asp) that gets dynamically generated
from a db using a DW and MySQL app. The page (a table) looks
    sometihng like this:
    Year Card #
    1951 01
    1951 02
    1951 03
    1952 01
    1952 02
    1953 01
    1953 02
    1953 03
    and so on
I've made the "Year" column a text link and added a Pop-Up
Menu behavior so that users could select a year and jump directly
to a specific section of the page (table). However, I'm not sure
how to put a <a href> name anchor in for each of the years.
    For instance calling :
    <a name="1951">1951</a>
    from a declaration of:
    <a href="#1951">Go to year 1951</a>
I would want to call each year (1951, 1952...1973) using name
anchors. But again, I'm not sure how to put all the named anchors
in a document that gets dynamically generated. It is a a table that
gets its data generated via a Repeated Region. Hope this question
makes sense. Any suggestions/comments appreciated. Thanks.

If you year card allways follows that format then you could
    use the
    following code on the page.
Outside of the repeat region have this statement
    <%
    Dim TestYear, CurrentYear, ThisYearCard
    TestYear = "0000"
    %>
Then in the repeat region where you want the anchor to appear
    use this code
    <%
    ThisYearCard = recordset.fields.item("YearCard").value
    CurrentYear = Left(ThisYearCard, 4)
    If TestYear <> CurrentYear then
    response.write("A name='") & CurrentYear & "'>"
    TestYear = CurrentYear
    End if
    %>
Where you want the Year card to appear you would then use
    <%=ThisYearCard%>
    rather than the recordset element.

I'm building a mobile site, with the accordion widget containing the a menu widget, pinned to the top (i added custom css to pin it to the top).

  • Create URL that links to anchor on page

I'm putting together a long page that will have different blog posts. My intention is to publicise these posts via MailChimp or similar. My question is: is there a way to provide a link to subscribers that will take them to the specific part of this long page that will contain all the blog posts?
Or should I approach this a different way?
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve

    Hi Aish, hi David,
For some reason I can't get the anchor to work as expected. Here's the URL: BLOG
This works by sending the user to the page, but not to the anchor on that page (the anchor is directly above the 7 thumbnails of business cards).
Any clues as to what I might be doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve

  • Links using anchors not working properly to some people

    on this site:
    http://www.thevpp.ca
I used anchors to link the show ads on either side of the page to the appropriate section of the show page. This works perfectly in Safari, Firefox (on mac) and IE (on PC).
Our client and one other person have complained that the link to "GodSpell" opens "Heart & Soul" in the centre of the page instead of GodSpell, but I cannot duplicate this. I can't find out what browser / version / OS they're using as they don't know.
Clicking on the GodSpell image on the home page takes you to shows.html#b which is GodSpell. (Heart & Soul is shows.html#a)
They say the other show links work perfectly. I thought initially their browser might not support anchors, but if the others work, then I don't get why this one doesn't.
Is there a better way to link these images than using anchors? Could the problem be that the anchor links are within a ProjectVIII scroller?

A few code errors to check:
    http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thevpp.ca%2Fshows.html%23b
I see several problems.  In Firefox 12, the only links that work consistently for me are "Love Letters" and "Sinatra".   If I use the custom scrollbar and go all the way down to "Sinatra," the links don't trigger anything.  Same thing happens in Chrome.
For an alternate approach, I created a named anchors demo (without tables).  You'll see there is ample space between each of the named anchor regions (view page source to see the code).

  • Links replaced with question marks

I have two songs I placed on my site. I noticed tonight that the links are not there and instead there are two question marks.
So, I uploaded the site again and still there are question marks. Then I looked at the index folder on my desktop and the links are right and good there.
Everything else on the site seems fine.
I use Transmit and have never had any problem until now. I can only assume that something weird and wrong is happening in the ftp process. Right? I went back after uploading the whole site and replaced just the two folders for that page, with no change in the result.
I also emptied the cache in case I was looking at an old version of the page.
If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate them. This is not urgent, the songs are mainly there for fun and diversion. Still, I'd like them to get back up.
The url for that page is: http://www.pantherpeakbindery.com/Club19.html

Here's where I am with this:
In Safari (both my iBook and my wife's Powerbook) I get question marks where the songs should be.
On two PCs at work, using IE, I get a Quicktime logo which cannot be activated.
Using Firefox on a Mac I get the songs right away. Using Firefox on my office PC I get a Quicktime application warning, though the songs will play.
Was there some upgrade to Quicktime which might be behind all of this?
    I'd appreciate any ideas. Thanks!

  • Link to Anchor on another page DW Mac CS4

In GoLive when I clicked on the pointer to go to another page, it showed a list of anchors on that page. Is there a way to do this? Alternately I could have two pages open at once and click from the text on one page directly to the anchor on the other with the pointer.
Problem is that with the tabed pages I cannot open two pages at once. Is there a way to open two pages next to each other instead of tabbed?

In GoLive when I clicked on the pointer to go to another page, it showed a list of anchors on that page. Is there a way to do this?
No. Several GoLive people have asked the same question. You can't do it in Dreamweaver. If you think it's an important feature that you would like to see added to a future version, file a feature request here: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform.
Alternately I could have two pages open at once and click from the text on one page directly to the anchor on the other with the pointer.
I doubt if that would work.
Is there a way to open two pages next to each other instead of tabbed?
You can turn off the tabbed interface in the Mac version of Dreamweaver by selecting the General category in the Preferences panel. Deselect the checkbox labelled Open documents in tabs.

  • Linking to Anchor Points?

    Hi there,
I have a Flash Animation .swf, and I have placed it in a HTML
    web page.
The purpose of this animation is that I can click on five
different sections of it, and each of these sections takes me to
the anchor points on the webpage. I have setup all the buttons in
    the Flash animation correctly.
Normally to link to an anchor point, you just name the point
like 'Johnny' then to create the link to it, using #Johnny. That
works great for normal images and text. But how would I do this in
    Flash for my animation?
I've tired adding the Web behavior for buttons "Goto Webpage"
and I have just put in '#Johnny', on '_self'. But when I test it on
    the webpage, it does nothing.
Has anyone tried doing this before? Is there anyway it can
    work?
    Any help would be great.

  • I send emial with links and anchors and when someone else forwards that, the links are converted to http addresses that go to gmail!

I send out an email with many "internal" links, that is, links that go to anchors within the email. someone else picks up the email and forwards it to others. Now, instead of looking like this:
    #GHNNCEP
    the link looks like this:

    Huh?

I need to refer to sections within the email, not external links. I thought anchors was the way to go for that. Have you something different?
