Link to fold on shared drive from PDF

Hi all,
I have a PDF document that I would like a text box to link (open a shared drive)to a shard folder drive. I have tried the file:/// (path) but it does not work.
I basically want a visual box a user clicks to go to the specific folder on the drive as the address name is very long.
Anyone have ideas?
Thanks,

The PDF language allows for any type of URI that you wish to supply, which may point to a file, folder or any other object.
However, do to security concerns, a conforming PDF viewer (such as Adobe Acrobat or Reader) may choose not to implement all possible URI schemes. in this particular case, Acrobat/Reader do not support a "folder" scheme.

No, Lightroom catalogs cannot be on a networked (shared) drive, and they do not support simultaneous multi-user access

  • Link to file on Shared Drive

In one of my report output, I need to include a link(url) to file on Shared Drive. The path is stored in database and it will be retrieved in query. The file can be either PDF/WORD/Excel for now.
For ex. e:\\abc\share\test.xls should appear as url in report and when user clicks the url, it should open the test.xls file.
Could some body help me how to do this?
    Thank You.

    Hi..
    I have the same scenario..
One of the columns in the xml file has a path on the shared drive..
    like...
    S:\MANAGERS\xxxx.doc
when the user clicks on the hyperlink the documnet doesn't open and is giving an error as
cannot find file:///u01/oracle/product/10.1.3/dmidr3/j2ee/home/S:\MANAGERS\xxxx%20.doc make sure the path or internet address is correct.
As you can see the report is adding the path ///u01/oracle/product/10.1.3/dmidr3/j2ee/home/ before the actual path that appears in the report.

  • Can't save to internal shared drive from Photoshop

I have a mac that has 2 internal drives. One drive is where I keep all projects. That drive is shard so that I can access it from my laptop and other computer. This is how it's been set up for almost a year. Within the past 2 months I've begun to have an issue saving out of Photoshop to that shared drive. It gives me an error every time.
I am able to save out of any other program to that drive. And I'm able to save out of Photoshop onto the other drive on my computer that isn't shared.
Any ideas what the issue could be?
    THanks.

    Hi Looking4Answer
I wonder if this is related to the bug that occurs with volume names and paths?
is your other computer a Mac or PC?
does the problem occur when both are connected to the network or just with the one computer?
anything special about the shared drive setup?
is the shared volume name one of the system folder names... applications, users etc?
    regards

  • Can't assign tags to folder on shared drive

I'm having issues with assigning tags to a shared AFP folder.
On my shared drive I have a master folder, and within that I have 700+ other folders.
I can assign tags to certain folders within the master folder, but not others.
Any thoughts on how to fix that?

Disk Utility > File menu > New Blank Disk Image...
Create one on the desktop. You have the option of read/write format (which remains a fixed size as you add/remove files to it) or sparse format (size grows along with the size of the contents.) Specify 128-bit encryption. You will be prompted to choose a password for the image. Don't forget the password or the contents of the disk image will be lost.
Move the image to the external HD when you are done. You can then mount the image and add/remove files just as if the image were its own physical disk.

  • Protecting shared drives from viruses?

I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to make it where only certain programs can change the files of a shared network drive. We have software that is dependent on shared drives (no way to get around them) that have been hit multiple times by the crypto
locker virus. All of our workstations have Vipre business virus protection and email protection and our email is hosted with Office 365, but the virus is still able to get on our network thru email. I've even seen it disable vipre. We also have software that
will not work unless the user is an administrator on the workstation. We have setup some group policy rules that will not allow programs to run in the general places this virus likes to run, but I'm sure this will not stop it forever. If our accounting software
drive gets hit it will be a major headache. So, what I would like is to be able to setup a rule on a workstation or in group policy that says that certain programs can make changes to the files on a shared network drive, but no other programs can. Does anyone
    know if this is possible?

    Hi,
Permissions in Windows are based on users, not programs. We cannot setup a rule that only certain programs can make changes to the files on a shared network drive. In case, your drive infected by CryptoLocker, you need to backup your drive periodically. If
your drive is encrypted, you could restore encrypted files.

  • Email link to folder on shared volume

There's probably a really easy answer to this one but I just can't find it... so please be a hero and help me out!
I need to email a link to a folder on a shared volume to a colleague, showing him where I've put a particular file. How do I do this easily?
    (1) Why can't I just select the folder, press Cmd-I, copy the Where or Server info, Cmd-V into an email and press Send?
    (2) I also know about the trick to drop the folder on the Terminal window and copy the result, but it looks nasty if you have spaces in the path.
Ideally I would just love to drop the folder on the email and be done with it (but that of course copies the whole folder). There must be an easy way to do this...

Yeah, I could manually type the whole long path into the e-mail but hey! - I thought we used computers to make things easier...
A quick Grab (usually from inside Preview) to create an image is a good suggestion but a bit cumbersome.
Oh Apple - why didn't you make the text in the Info pane selectable and copyable?

  • Accessing Time Capsule shared drive from Vista

When running Vista in Bootcamp on my late 2008 Macbook Pro, I can see the shared network drive on the Time Capsule, but when I try to access it it just freezes Windows Explorer and I have to forcibly terminate the explorer process. Is there a trick to get it to work? I'd like to use Norton Ghost to backup Vista on the Time Capsule drive.
    Thanks.

I have a 1TB TC currently working as my router for a Macbook, Vaio and Dell laptops. I can only access the files from the Macbook. I tried installing Bonjour on the Vaio, but still cannot access the saved files...maybe the install was not good? Any ideas? I tried the online Bonjour download...I do not have the disc.

  • Can't write to network shared drive from PC

I have been using a network drive shared via samba for almost a year.  The drive is shared from a PC and it is a ntfs fromatted drive.  I have never had a problem writing to the drive before.  Today, I did a fresh install of Win7 and all of a sudden I can't write to the drive any more.  I have windows sharing the drive with all permissions enabled.  I know I am missing something, but I don't know what.   Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, I made a mistake.  When I enabled permissins to read/write on Win7, I must have forgotten to "apply" and save, because I just checked the settigns and permissions were not what I thought they were.  I went back through, hit apply and then saved the settings and everything works as it should.

  • My company requires that I install an anti-virus program on my MAC in order to gain access to our shared drives from home. The IT group suggests I download Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition. Is there reason I shouldn't do this?

My company requires that I install an anti-virus program on my Mac in order to access shared corporate drives via Citrix from home. The IT guys recommend Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac. Is this OK or are there other programs I should use instead?

Sophos or ClamXav either one are recommended. FYI... the Mac drive may slow down as a result of installing a/v software.

  • Home Folder on Separate Drive from Start-up?

I've got my data files, including iTunes and iPhoto, on one hard drive and my system stuff and applications on the other. I've seen references to moving the Home folder to a separate drive. Right now, mine is just 3 gigs. What are the pros and cons of this?

    hi niel.
i just want to make sure i understand this. in part i want to minimize what i have on the 2006 and get it on the 2012 i think.
    A. the home folder contains all my DATA and all my preferences and everything, yes? so when i tell sys prefs that it is on another hard drive i am basically storing everything related to the OS and my documents on this disk, yes?
    B. i mean, i could move the Documents section to another hard drive with no consequences , yes?
    C. can i move the home folder for Lion on 2006 mac pro back to the drive in bay 1 - - and then simply take the Data Drive in Bay 3 and put it in my 2012 mac pro? i mean, i would tell sys prefs that the home folder is again on drive 1 and i could take the disk out of bay 3 and put it in the new computer? i guess this might not be optimal since a lot of the system prefs that were on lion in the 2006 would now be on the 2012?
just trying to figure out how to migrate over to the 2012 at this point i guess...

  • Remove obsolete shared drives from mac mavericks.

I took a few goes to find an external HD that would work with my mac (for some reason the first couple of wireless drives didn't work).  Now I have several listed on my finder and I can't work out how to get rid of them.  All I have managed to find is how to hide them, but I want to get rid of them altogether.
    Thanks in advance!

For anyone who comes across this in the future:
I ended up using a piece of sofware called HamachiX. It creates what could best be described as a Virtual VPN (I know, I know). Install on both machines, create your network name and (if you've done it right) the machines will act as if they were on the same network.
This had been a great solution until I upgraded to Lion, which no longer supports PPC apps.

  • Self referencing alias of shared drive

    My Issue:
I'm using an iMac with freshly installed OS X Mavericks.
I can't access a shared drive from a remote MacMini anymore.
When I click on the drive, I get a self reference and thus an infinite
    loop to that drive.
    How I got there:
Like before in Mountain Lion, I tried to drag the shared drive into the Favorites side bar in Finder,
but that didn't work anymore (for whatever reason) in Mavericks.
I did some research and got the hint, to drag the shared drive into the ~/Library/Favorites folder.
This didn't work either, so I deleted that alias from the Favorites folder again, but since then I have
    the above behaviour.
How can I delete this self-reference alias? Where is the alias-information stored?
    Thanks for your help
    Thomas

Problem is solved. Rebooting of both computers removed the circular reference,
however, my initial problem still exists:
I can't drag the shared remote drive to Favorites in Finder anymore.
This has worked in Mountain Lion and before, but not anymore in Mavericks.
    any idea?
