Link to remote topic

hello,
I Can't linked to remote topic of other chm file. The remote
topic haven`t the underscor character. When i link to the remote
topic, is produced a error "Page not found". Please I need help.
Thanks

If RoboHelp automatically adds these to baggage, I would
delete them. It seems like the whole point of linking to a remote
topic is to access a CHM file that is outside the control of your
own project. If you are going to include this file in your CHM, you
might as well really include it by including the topics in your
CHM. The remote link will work whether the .chm is in baggage or
not.
When RH adds an external file to baggage, any link to that
file calls up the version from baggage rather than the current
version. This can be problematic. I have a help file called
ExperimentalProtocols.chm. It links to another help file called
Instrument.chm that explains how to use the current version of the
instrument software. We need that reference to be dynamic. i.e. the
Instrument.chm must be independent and external to the
ExperimentalProtocols.chm, which we do not modify.
I have not seen RH (version 8) add external .chms to baggage,
but that may just be the way I use it....

  • Display remote topic in new window with remote project TOC?

Although I've used RoboHelp for several years, I'm self-taught and work independently, so would have to classify myself as a beginning user. I'm using RoboHelp HTML 6.0 and Windows XP Professional.
My question is this: I know how to link to a topic in a remote project, but is there a way to display the remote topic in a new help window with its own (remote project's) TOC? I've attached an illustration. Here's the background, if you need it, and why I think I want to do this:
The company I'm working with previously provided user assistance via three printed manuals: a Setup Guide, a User's Guide, and an Administrator's Guide. The first project I completed for them was to convert the information in the User's and Administrator's Guides into a single online help system. We combined the two because their users are generally smaller companies where the "users" and the "administrators" are often the same people. The Help is deployed as a .chm file on the same CD with software updates.
The next step we are taking is to transform the Setup Guide to online help. It will be context-sensitive (screen-level) help for each of the 80 or so setup screens that a new user of their software should complete to tailor the application to their business practices and get the most out of it. Obviously users will need a higher level of access rights to be able to perform or make changes to the setup. However we still want to be able to cross-reference the user's help and the setup help, so that the relationship between specific setup choices and functionality is clear and adjustments can easily be made, if necessary, as they gain more experience with the software. For example, a user feels a need for an additional customer description code on a customer profile page. The user presses F1 to view Help for the page, the Help tells them exactly on which setup screen those codes are created, and they can follow the link to those instructions if they want to.
I want these two help systems to be accessible to each other and the user, and yet retain their separate identities. I don't think I want Setup to appear as yet another book in the User's Table of Contents, which is already somewhat overwhelming. So far I have written it as a separate RH project, knowing that I can import topics to the User help if I need to. Thanks in advance for your help! And don't forget I'm a relative newbie to RH. Thanks!

I got the new window to open up with the new CHM now...
As a follow up, it seems I need to define the new window with
the specific TOC and Index of the new CHM. I there a way to define
a window that picks up the related TOC and Index of the chm that it
opens(in this way, a single window type gets created, so that when
I get a new subsytem, I do not have to keep adding/creating new
windows, which makes me have to redistribute the main system
help...which is what I am trying to avoid)

  • Project renaming and remote topics

If I change a project name, do I need to update the topic
links pointing to it in other projects?
For example, let's say I have the following:
    Project 1: NebraskaProject
    Topic: Omaha
    Project 2: Baseball
    Topic: Omaha Royals
Let's say I want to rename Project 1 to just "Nebraska",
using the "File | Rename Project" option from the RoboHelp menu.
Let's also say that Project 2 has a topic, "Omaha Royals",
with a (remote topic) hyperlink to a topic in Project 1, "Omaha".
When I change the name of Project 1, will doing so
automatically update the remote topic link? Or, will I need to go
into Project 2, open the Omaha Royals topic, and manually update
    it?

The project rename option only renames the underlying project
files (e.g. .hhp, .ali, .hhc, .hhk, etc.) not the actual output or
topic files. If you are outputting a CHM file you'll find the
rename process leaves the original CHM file unchanged. For example
renaming the project NebraskaProject to Nebraska leaves the CHM
file with it's previous name and therefore the external links do
    not change and will work.

  • Topics missing from link view and topic references

I am using RoboHelp X5 and have come across situations where
I have a URL, and all of the topics that link to it do not display
in link view, in the Show Topics References option, or in the
External Topics report. I want to know if there is an easy way to
correct this so I can see every topic that links to a particular
    URL.
For example, I have a link to www.adobe.com that is
referenced in the TOC and 5 different RoboHelp topics. After I
initially set up all the links, all 5 topics show in link view from
www.adobe.com. In topic references, the TOC also appears. Then a
few days or weeks later, I try to view the links again, and some or
all of them no longer appear. If I display the link in link view or
right click and select Topic References, it may only show me the
reference to the TOC. If I remove it from the TOC, it no longer
appears as a URL at all. But it is still actually used in 5 topics.
Also, if I know it is linked from topic A, I could go in and edit
topic A and save. Then www.adobe.com will show up as a link in the
URL list again, and topic A will appear again in link
view/references. But I don't necessary know all of the topics that
link to it, and if I am trying to remove it from the entire
project, or change the URL, that becomes a problem.
I hope this makes sense and if anyone can help, I would
    appreciate it!
    Chris

Repair the broken links, create a zipped backup of the project, then delete the CPD file before reopening.

  • MDB messages dont get processed from Queues when involving a remote Topic in transaction

Using WLS 6.1 SP4 on winXP Pro boxes, I have come across a peculiar problem:
I have several MDBs that process ObjectMessages from queues and forward their payload (wrapped in another new ObjectMessage) to other queues, all of which are located within the same WLS server.
Right now I'm adding a new MDB that gets messages from a remote Topic with a durable subscription, and forwards the payload to local queues after some processing.
When the Topic is local as well, there is no problem. But when the Topic is set up in a remote machine, only the MDB that has the remote durable subscription works the way it should. It receives the remote message and forwards it to the corresponding local queue. But then the messages in those local queues dont get processed. The 'Messages Received' count rises and the 'Messages' count stays at 0, as if the messages had been correctly processed and acknowledged, but no onMessage() method is called besides the one from the MDB that has the durable subscription to the remote Topic (I can tell because there's no further processing from the queue those messages get put in). It's as if those messages were simply received and acknowledged without being passed to other MDBs by WLS.
              * All queue MDBs use Required container-managed transaction management and auto-acknowledge
              * All queue MDBs have default durability for their queue subscriptions
              * The topic MDB has a durable subscription stored in a filestore
              * Lookup of the remote Topic is done via JNDI
Since the processing and forwarding of messages occurs the way it should when everything is local, I am inclined to believe one of two things:
              a) There's some issue with the way WLS treats messages (or even just payloads) when they come from a remote server
              b) WLS is doing something I'm not aware of when propagating a transaction that begins with the delivery of a message from a remote JMS Topic when it involves further forwarding of messages in local JMS Queues.
              Any help will be appreciated.
              regards,
              .munir estevane

Is the durable subscriber forwarder rolling back its transactions?
That would cause the behavior you describe (eg the message gets
placed in the queue, but is never made visible). What do
the pending counts on the destination queue look like?

  • How to provide link for the topics of Webhelp in the Context Sensitive Help in RH10 ?

I am using Robohelp 10 and currently working on Context Sensitive Help in which there is a need to create certain links for the topics that are present in Webhelp. My area of concern is that we can't use map id's since CS Help and Webhelp had already been created and it will be a mess for developers too since they had to relook their code. While generating output we don't give js files to our developers, we just give them folders and css file. Considering all these points,  is there any way to provide a link for a topic of Help in Context Sensitive Help? Anyone, Please Help !

I'm not clear on what the question is. You seem to want CSH and to not use Map IDs. That leaves other methods to which Willam has already pointed you. Essentially it's Map IDs or URLs. So are you asking if there is a method that does not involve the developers? No as it is they who must create a link of some sort from a screen to a topic.
You also say you don't give JS files, just folders and CSS. The Rh WebHelp output contains many files and folders and you have to give the whole output or the help will not work properly. Exactly what are you giving them?

  • Linking two remote Macs

I have a basic question about linking two remote Macs over the internet. Here's the situation...
I live in Maryland and my brother in South Carolina. We would like to be able to exchange large files easily. I've managed to do this using sftp from the terminal, but what I would really love is if I could get his remote disk to show up as a folder on my desktop (in the Finder).
Is there a way to do this (that isn't too expensive)?
    Eric

Is there a way to do this (that isn't too expensive)?
This method is free, I am assuming that as you have been using sftp your also familiar with SSH.
You can mount an afp volume over the internet through an SSH tunnel.
Turn on file sharing on the remote mac. Then you can ssh into it using a listening port. here is the syntax
    ssh user@server -L 5548:127.0.0.1:548
Then once the tunnel is connected you choose from your finder 'command +k' amd in the connect to server window use
    afp://localhost:5548
This will then prompt you to login and then the sharepoint will mount on your desktop as if it were a local volume.
The only issue you have is that the finder can become very slow and unresponsive when using network volumes over low bandwidth.

  • Linking to .hlp topics from RoboHelp HTML 6

We have a comprehensive help file for our CADD systems built
in RoboHelp 6 for Word that has been compiled to WinHelp 2000
(.hlp) format. We now want to link to specific topic from a project
being built in RoboHelp HTML 6. This is easy to do in RoboHelp 6
for Word but I cannot find out how to do this in the HTML version.
Any help is greatly appreciated, and please dumb down the
responses, I will be appreciative not offended.
    Thanks,
    Kelly

Hi Kelly and welcome to our community
Whether you may do this will depend on whether you are
creating WebHelp or a Compiled .CHM output. I don't believe it will
work with WebHelp. If you are creating a compiled .CHM, first off
make sure your primary layout is configured for Microsoft HTML
Help. If it isn't, you won't see the option I'm about to point you
    to.
Once you cross that hurdle, click inside a topic and choose
Insert > HTML Help Controls > WinHelp Topic...
    Hopefully that helps some... Rick

  • Creating links to other topics very slow

Hi, I have RH 7 and when creating links from one topic to
another it takes a long time for the dialog boxes to appear. I have
about 10 links per topic and at three minutes per link, that's a
    lot of time. Thanks, Becky

I'm having the same, or a similar, problem. I'm trying to
insert lots (more than a thousand) of help jumps into a Word 2007
document and it's taking a minute or so per topic. I'm running on a
laptop with an electronic disk. I don't see any CPD files to
delete. I tried dragging a help topic from my project window to the
Word document, but that didn't seem to do anything. Something I
thought would work, but whch didn't, was to create the links as
Word 2007 links (which is fast), then do a conversion and convert
links to help jumps. I still haven't figured out why that didn't
work. If there are any other suggestions, that would be
    appreciated.

  • How to handle link to Remote Desktop

How do you handle a link to remote desktop--it's to a server that the user needs to use in the event of a shutdown to a system.

    Rick,
    Does this help?
Connect to the service termination PI server through Remote Desktop by double-clicking the following server names.
Then there is a list of six server names, which are embedded objects, to double-click on.

  • External Links in Related Topics Control

    Hello All
I have a help system with 100 separate chm projects that we
distribute together and link between. I'm using the Related Topics
control, but can only link to topics within the same .chm file. How
do I link to a topic in a different .chm file using the Related
    Topics control?
    Thanks
    Jodie

    Jodie,
In the true code editor, in the related topics object, just
append the name of the external file in front of the topic so that
it reads "filename.chm::/topicname.htm" The external file then
needs to be in the same directory as the calling .chm. But you can
include a relative path if needed.

  • Including link to one topic in message of 2nd topic

    Hello,
I'm new to SDN so please excuse my basic question.
My problem/question is how to include a link to one topic when posting a new topic or reply to an existing topic.
The reason this came up is that I received e-mail notification when someone updated one of my watched topics but not another. I was going to create a new topic asking why this happens and include links to both topics but I can't figure out how.
The url in my IE address bar doesn't change as I go from topic to topic.
Thanks in advance for any replies.
    David

    Hi David,
the links are for example accessible at:
    1. The top left corner "Topic" if you read a message
    2. In the topic lists of the forums.
In general you can click on a link with the right mouse button and choose the Copy option from the context menu.
Pasting this you'll get something like: Including link to one topic in message of 2nd topic
If you want to make the links more readable use this template (remove the '_'s): [_url=href]display[_/url].
Sample: Replacing "href" with the link to the SDN home page and "display" with "goto SDN" this results in:
If you need more infos, <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/sdn/index.sdn">goto SDN</a>.
    Hope that helps.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • Link to a topic in another project (in a new window)

When I make a link from a topic in project A to a topic in project B, i can´t change the hyperlink-options. So the topic from project B is showen in the same window as the topic from project A before. Is it possible to make it open in a new (second) window?

    Hi there
I'm really hoping everyone affected by this will please take a moment and report the bug to Adobe. I know I've reported it. But I'm just one person. If they only hear from me, they aren't likely to take it seriously and correct the issue.

How do i link pro remote light on my iphone 4s with logic 8 on my mac pro 10.6.6

    Hello Boardman99,
It sounds like after a recent update you are no longer able to send mail, but receiving it works without issue.
I would start with the troubleshooting outlined in this article named:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Mail
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3899
Try these basic troubleshooting steps first
Tap Safari and attempt to load a webpage (try any webpage). If you can load a webpage, then your device has Internet access. If you are unable to load a webpage, follow these troubleshooting steps.Try to use an alternate Internet connection if available:
    Try a different Wi-Fi connection
If your iOS device has an active cellular data plan, tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn off Wi-Fi.
If the affected email account is provided by your Internet provider, see if your issue is resolved while connected to your home Wi-Fi network.*
Log in to your email provider's website to ensure that the account is active and the password is correct.
    Restart your iOS device.
Delete the affected email account from your device.
Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Choose the affected email account, then tap Delete Account.
    Add your account again.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,

  • Getting user-supplied data for links to remote website

    Hi,
I want to certify a enterprise portal business package that should be fairly easy. This is my first experience using SAP or doing an integration and this forum and the documentation is my only access to information. There are no experts here...yet.
Anyway, the only thing I need to do for the portal integration is to display some links to our .NET web application. When a user selects one of the links, the associated web page should display in the right pane of the portal.
    My questions are this:
Is displaying the webpage in the right pane of the portal OK? Are there any issues I need to consider when displaying the webpage content, such as the look of the page? (I would like to display the page exactly as it is displayed if one were to use a web browser to view it if that is OK).
The .NET application runs on IIS. Is it permitted to run this on the same machine as the SAP server?
What would be the best technique to get information about where my .NET web application is running, such as host and port number? When one installs the business package, they must either be asked to enter the location of the remote web server, or maybe the information can be retrieved from a configuration file. (?)
Lastly, is it OK to create the links using the URL iView or should I use Visual Studio to create the links then create a PAR file?
Thank you very much for your help

    Hi,
If I undestand correctly you are trying for PBNW (Powered by Netweaver certification ).
In that case they don't accept url iViews.
Peronalisation and SSO are pre requiste for the certification .So, you may have to develop .Net iviews for your application.
    Thanks,
    Abdul raheem S
