"Link to" slides won't work with external monitor

I built a presentation with a lot of "link to" commands in it.  It works perfectly when I run it on the desktop (MBP retina), but when I plug in a second monitor none of the link to's will work.  Why would that be and how can I fix it?

I tried a different adapter and this solved the problem.

My 10.7.3 Time Machine won't work with external disks. Worked fine with Snow Leopard, and even Lion 10.7.1
I have tried everything, even buy new external disk from different manufacture.
If I cant get a fix soon, I am downgrading back to SnowL.

Still no luck. I tried all the tricks, reconfiguring TM (remove selected disk option, and re-setting it, and trying different disks). Tried new combo updater, and the newer TM update after that. Tired two different disks too (one is my older firewire WD MyBook 1TB, and my brand new 3tb Seagate GoFlex USB... either one plugged into back of computer - no intermediary devices). I did get the TM buddy wiget and it produced the following log, from the last attempt, where I setup lots of exclusions so that backup quantity was small (under 10gb). Still it failed to complete. Here is that log, for what it is worth:
    Starting standard backup
    Backing up to: /Volumes/TM-Disk/Backups.backupdb
9.56 GB required (including padding), 911.15 GB available
Waiting for index to be ready (101)
Copied 0 files (0 bytes) from volume Mac HD.
    Backup canceled.
To prove a point, I will take these disks are run them on my other Tiger and Snow Leopard laptops to prove TM works fine on those with these disks. But I fear the only options are to either have my tech re-install LION... or just have him reinstall SL instead. Im at wits end.

  • Macbook Pro won't work with external display?

The very first time I connected my brand new Macbook Pro to my 23" Cinema Display the laptop screen displayed mostly static, though the external monitor continued to work. The computer was sent to Apple for repair. Apple replaced the logic board. Though the nature of the problem changed following the "repair" (the Macbook's screen now goes dark instead of displaying noise) the laptop still will not drive the external monitor successfully without multiple re-starts. I've experimented with turning the sleep mode on and off as well as the screen saver. No effect. Is anyone using this set up successfully or is there some fatal design flaw in the Macbook Pro? System 1.4.8, 2 gigs RAM. Thanks.

Thanks for the input. Yes, I've driven the 23" with another Mac. I took the laptop back to the shop today. Hopefully they can resolve the issue.

  • MacBook Spring 2010 Snow Leopard won't work with External Samsung Monitor

    Hi,
I have a MacBook I purchased about a month ago and it's not working with my Samsung SyncMaster 940 BW. I am using Mini DisplayPort out with a Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adaptor which goes into my SyncMaster Monitor. I have tried rebooting, and also playing around with my laptop resolution, but otherwise I have no idea what to do about this.
I've read on the discussions that this is a known Snow-Leopard issue but I thought I might post to see if this has been resolved. I run all the updates but the monitor still isn't working?

A better place to post would be in the The MacBook Pro Display (2008 and Later) forum:

  • Yosemite Won't Shutdown With External Monitor Connected

    Hi there...
I have a MBP 2010 and I've updated Yosemite from Mavericks. Now I'm running the latest 10.10.2.
Ever since I updated to Yosemite, I have had this problem of my computer won't shutdown when an External monitor is connected. This happens only when I put my computer to sleep. However, if I restart the computer and after logged in to the user and tried to shutdown, it shutdown without any problem. Every time I shutdown it just hangs and I had to force shutdown by press and hold the power button. Which I'm sure is not a proper way.
Right now only my external monitor connected to my MBP. So I did unplugged the ext. monitor and tried shutdown and it works fine. But it think this is the temporary solution that I've found but it is annoying to unplug everytime I wanted to shutdown and plug it back in once the computer is up and running. Which is not idle solution at all.
Am I the only one or a lot of people facing this issue? If there is a solution please share. Very much appreciated. Thanks.

Updated to 10.10.3 and the problem still persist. Still unable to shutdown or restart after wake up from sleep.
Any one affected? Is it something to do with Gfx card?

  • Macbook stopped work with external monitor

    Hello!!!
    I need a help!
I always used my MacBook 13" with a Samsung 932BW as external monitor.
Yesterday morning, I had to change this monitor to another one. After that, my 932BW doesn't work any more with my Mac, that just blink when I plug in the DVI or VGA cabe (I've both mini-Dvi adapters).
    So, any help to me????
    Thanks

    See the following Apple article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1573?viewlocale=pt_BR
In particular, you may have to trash the preferences file for displays, which is a file(s) that has "windowserver" in its name. Instructions for how to do that can be found through the above link.

  • MacBook Pro won't sleep with external monitor

    Hello,
have a problem. I'm using external monitor with my MacBook Pro. If I close the lid, I see all windows on external monitor and Yosemite won't sleep. Can you help me please? My external monitor is Samsung 21.5" and I'm connecting it to MacBook Pro via DVI.

    Hey Renecek,
My first thought was, "Hey, you are using closed-clamshell mode".

But then I realized, wait, you want it to sleep.

  • Blackcreen but works with external monitor

Hi, I need help with my moms notebook its HP not sure about the model but it's definitely one of those old ones.
so she was restarting her NB probabbly by taking the power cable off. Now the notebook wont load just blackscreen so I tried few usual stuff like taking the battery and power cable off and press power button for a minute and it didnt help so i decided to connect external monitor and both of them turned on even the notebook screen. however as soon i turn on her notebook without extra monitor there is blackscreen again.

    Hi @gcko ,
Welcome to the HP Forums! I saw your posts regarding the black screen. There isn't a whole of troubleshooting available when we can't get into the operating system or even the BIOS. Since you have already tried a Hard Reset with the battery then you will need to give us call as this is a hardware issue. You can reach HP Total Care at 1-800-474-6836 in North America or start here if you live outside of North America.

  • W520 screen saver wont work with external monitor.

I have a Dell 30" U3011 monitor connected via display port.
I have the computer set to "projector only" (when you hit windows-P).
There are no controls on the monitor to tell it to sleep.
In Windows 7, I have the screen saver set to "blank" after 10 minutes.  However, it never goes blank after 10 minutes - the screen saver never kicks in.
In the windows powerplan, I have it set to turn off the display after 15 minutes when plugged in.  It never turns of the display.
I have it set to dim the dipsplay afer 10 minutes to 0% brightness.  It never dims the display
In the Lenovo power manger,  I have "screen saver" ticked under Global power settings->Dynamic brighness control.  I cant find any more display saving type options under the lenovo power manager.
Its the standard Lenovo factory install of windows.
It works fine when using the internal Lenovo panel.
I have two dell laptops with windows 7, and neither has this problem - only the Lenovo.
The problem is, if I leave the computer on for say 5 hours, I come back and the screen is burnt in with the windows I have open. The monitor cost £1400 - I its as expensive as the Lenovo. If it came down to the lenovo or the montior, I think I would go with the monitor.
Any one got the same problem?
Putting the machine to sleep every time I leave the machine for more than 10 minutes would be a temporary workaround, except for the huge bug on the lenovo  "forgets" my external mintor settings when it wakes up - and goes back to the internal panel.  When I reboot, it always gets it right however, it does remember that I am on projector only.  However, rebooting every time I leave the machine for half an hour would requireme to wait for several minutes while the machine boots up - so thats not an option either.
    Solved!

Do yourself a favor.  Temporarily remove flash and re-test.

    I was responding to Shallici.
Screen shots would have to be posted on a Web hosting service if you have one set up.
Sounds like it's still not working??
Try a re-setup and re-start. Shut it all down and re-connect from scratch.
It's been a while since I tinkered on a Panasonic, bit I recall a menu setting that controls the DV in/out.
Check the camera menu that it's set up to pass through correctly.

  • My audio on face time won't work with external speakers plugged in

I have a fairly new iMac. My husband bought me some Bose speakers and when I try to face time with the speakers plugged in I do not get any audio.

Facetime has not been available on iPads purchased in the UAE for years.
Although Facetime can work in the UAE on devices which do have it I don't know why you have not been able to use it in iOS 7.

  • Yoga 2 Pro don't work with external monitor (picture attached)

I'm trying to connect my Y2P to my Dell 2407wfpp, 24" 1920x1200, (http://www.dell.com/downloads/emea/products/snp/2407wfp_monitor.pdf) and everything turns to a green-blue colour..
I'm connecting using a Mini HDMI to HDMI cable + a HDMI to DVI adapter.
In terms of troubleshooting I've done the following:
I've tried connecting the laptop using just the Mini HDMI to HDMI cable to two other screens (Samsung TV's and they both worked) So it seems that the cable works fine, and the laptop is capable of connecting and displaying on a second screen.
I've also tried connecting a different laptop (Dell Vostro 3500) vith a normal HDMI cable + the same HDMI to DVI adapter and this to works fine, so it seems that the HDMI to DVI adapter works fine (and so does the Dell screen)
What could be causing this? coud it just be the combination of the mini HDMI to HDMI cable and the HDMI to DVI adapter that's causing the issue? Or coudl this be a driver issue that causes this particular Dell screen not to work?
Really appreciate some help with this!
    (see below for image)

Your photos show the issue very well - They clearly "forgot" to leave a cutout in the left edge rubber bumper to allow the MicroHDMI to be inserted fully.
I guess one solution is to start cutting into the left edge side and make a cut out.  Not sure that would do our warranties any good!
Lenovo this is an easy fix for you to do !!
Until then, I have these two cable that seem to work well enough -- not perfect but usable.  There's the Cable Matters micro-HDMI to VGA adapter, I cited before.  Using it now.  Zero stability / disconnection problems.

The good thing about these is that they are CHEAP - $4-5 each.  So buy two and take a craft knife to one and "carve" away at the Micro-HDMI plug's rubber surround until it fits really snugly into the Yoga's recessed socket
This Monoprice adapter works for me and seems pretty stable without any "carving".  Lots of happy reviews on Amazon and Monoprice from Surface and tablet and phone owners using this successfully.  Nice to be able to use standard size HDMI cables with this.
The product description says "Very snug fit which will help to prevent HDMI connection problems of having cables come loose" -- which suggests to me they put some thought into this little guy and maybe why it works better than some of the others.
My guess is that other similar Monoprice cables would be a good brand to try (and cheap)

  • Macbook screen won't work, but external monitor works fine...

Hey guys - are there any solutions out there for this problem that doesn't involve hundreds of dollars? A mate of mine spilled beer on a macbook - had to pay for it, I fired it up and everything works fine but the screen... Is there a way that I can check the connections or dry something off? Apple told the owner to throw it in the bin - but it works fine plugged into a monitor. The screen isn't cracked or chipped - all looks fine - I'm guessing that fluid had got into a connection somewhere. Help me Gurus!
    Cheers

Have you tried drying it without the back cover and upside down? l heard it worked for some guy

I have a PowerBook G4 with a non-functioning monitor.  It used to work with an external monitor, but I reinstalled the OS, which cleared the display preferences and now when I restart it won't detect the external monitor. This means I can't use the computer anymore. How do I fix?
