Link to spry css broken in template or child pages
Hi,
on the following pages the spry menu is not displaying properly. I did notice that in the template pages the link ref was missing ../ at the beginning. Having added this and updated the templates and child pages (these were also uploaded to the server) I thought that would solve the problem. But it doesn't look as though the change in the link ref has updated correctly.

Any pointers, would be great.
Second url:
http://davidcoshdesign.com/nea/lighting_functional_wall.html
This one appears not to be linking properly to the template? At leats, I think that's the problem. The template is in the correct folder and uploaded to the server.
I have noticed on this site that when I make a new page based on any of the site templates, when I look at the coding in DW, there are references to the local site 'root' folder.
Have I messed up the links to templates etc on site-wide basis? Do I need to go into 'Manage Sites' to sort this out?
No, just a reoccurring problem, for someone who constantly struggles witht the vagaries of html.

Ok. so I am getting pretty frustrated. I take the time to learn how to use CSS and to create a template page for a Contractor Site (www.ContractorInsurance.net). The idea is to create a page that I can use for different classes of Contractors...right?
Then I get all happy about being able to insert ToolTip onto pages to help the user. Great!
LIfe to turn to Sorrow after nearly five hours of searching for a "eeking" answer.
So what good does it do to have an Editable region to update if we cannot have the flexibility to insert a tool tip on child pages? Ok so the fast solution is to what... Have a question mark image, insert another apDiv, name it toolTip_Not and provide it with a show=hide behavior?
RRRRRrrr...
This really sucks not being able to find a solution within a reasonable amount of time.I have tried thank you. However...it is still not working.

The error message is "Making this change would require code that is locked by a template translator"

If you have a look at the following simple document with a tooltipTooltip trigger goes here.
Tooltip content goes here.
you will notice that a couple of lines have been placed in the HEAD section of the document. When using DW templates, the HEAD section is usually not editable, hence the error mesaage. By default, your template should have an editable region in it just before the closing tag. It looks like this: <!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="head" > <! TemplateEndEditable --> Dreamweaver should be able to find that editable region and insert the
<script> tag there automatically. Because you don't have an editable region like that in the <head>, open the master template, and paste the code above just before the closing </head>
tag. Gramps

How to create a template and child pages using mockup designed in Fireworks
I have created a website in Fireworks, and exported it to use in Dreamweaver. How do I use the Master page in Fireworks as my template page in Dreamweaver? When I bring in the .htm files from fireworks, it tries to bring in the entire page. I have taken 25 hours of online training for Fireworks and Dreamweaver through Lynda.com, but there is not a specific video that tells you how to get your website from Fireworks into Dreamweaver if you want to utilize the Template and child page features.
Use Fireworks to crop, slice and optimize images only. DO NOT allow any graphics app to generate your HTML code for you. This results in poorly formed code and rigid layouts that invariably fall apart when you attempt to edit them in DW. Fireworks / Photoshop generated pages are for quick prototypes or design comps to show the client. They do not work well on production sites.

I'm pretty new to Dreamweaver so thanks for the help.
I've set up a spry horizontal menu bar. The menubar.js is attached but the horizontalmenu.css is not showing under the html associated files. It has somehow become unattached even though the stylesheet link is in the head section of the html file. How do I re-link it or for that matter, link a different one? Opening the link as a file does not seem to do it.
Thanks.I am a tutor at a college in the UK and although this is not a frequent occurance it does happen more than you might think.
More than a few students have experianced this in their software.
It is a Dreamweaver issue and not a code issue. The html code is still intact when it happens and if you were to preview the page it would display correctly.
It is that the style sheet info in the css panel is lost and in page design view of Dreamweaver.
If you restart Dreamweaver its there again. but once this has occured, it then happens more freqently on that computer.

Spry accordion works in template, but not pages using that template
So I added a spry accordion to one of my templates and changed the script to default closed. It works great. In the template. But not in any of the pages using that template. Basically I can see the content in the accordion on the page as if there is no accordion at all. And I can see the script and html telling me an accordion should be there. It just isn't. I can see the framework when in edit mode. But in live mode, it's like there's not there but the content.
I'm using Dreamweaver CS6.
Any thoughts?
Thank you for your time!If the template has been created properly, then the Spry files should automatically be included in the child page(s).
My template looks like

Template and child pages do not match
Hi, there are several issues here and I'm pretty sure they're linked so I'll tell you them all. I was recently editing my website and I was changing the title of a page a created. I noticed that after I changed the name, when I clicked off it it just went back to the default title in the template. I then looked up how to sort and I think I changed a few bit of coding (I can't remember what though, sorry. It seemed to work. Then I decided to add another page which I listed in the navbar... when I got round to pressing save on the template, this happened....
(http://ScrnSht.com/vttvzm)
I'm sorry to sound so vague but I can't really remember what I did. Anyway, it says this for nearly every page when you save the template. I've noticed some of the coding on the template and the child pages do not match. This is the code on the template.

Is there any way I can just create a new template to match the pages already created?
Sorry if I sound silly but this is my first post on these forums and I'm not really sure what you need to know.
GabrielYou can do everything, (and I mean absolutely EVERYTHING) in a regular HTML page that you can do in a DWT, and you don't have any of the parent/child/editable/non-editable/nested/nesting region problems that you will get with DWT's until you are very highly proficient at coding HTML and know exactly how to lay one out from the start so these things don't happen.
DWT's are good for putting together a "mockup" to show a client, and have a good idea of the layout you will eventually use. They are also good for a teaching tool (the only time I ever created one was part of a class). If you have a group of people working on a site together, they are helpful too, but if none of the above apply, just make a plain HTML page and "Save As" when you need to make additional pages from it. -
Im working on building my first website in dreamweaver (new at this), i was working on this at school but decided to continue at home so i emailed my root folder to my computer at at home. when i opened my template page and changed it, it does not update all my child pages! what am i doing wrong?
Did you define a local site folder in DW?
Templates won't work if your site isn't defined.

Updating the template's (child) pages on the server - Mac - CS6
Folks,
I'm updating my template. When I save this updated template, all the child pages on my computer will automatically update. To then update the pages on the server, is there any short cut? Do I have to load each child page individually?You have to upload all the child pages. If you're updating the entire site, just click on the site folder in your Files Panel window (F8) and click the UP arrow to PUT site files to server.

Template do not update child pages
I really do not understand why this happens to me all the time.
I had this problem when I was using windows/pc with previous version of dreamweaver many years ago.
I had the same one, now that I am using mac and dreamweaver cs4.
In the past, I created a template, with one editable region. Based on this template, I created many pages.
For some time, everything worked ok, every change in editable region of template forced all child pages to reflect to this change too.
Now, this do not happen anymore(once again as I said).
I cannot understand why this happens. 118 files examined, 0 files updated. Why? What am I doing wrong? Is this a bug in dreamweaver that lasts for years?
I 've done nothing to detach the pages from template, ever. Why it stoped the updating of child file?
Can anybody please help me?giugiugiugiugiugiugi wrote:

You say "every change in editable region of template forced all child pages". This is NEVER how DW has operated. It's only changes to NON-EDITABLE regions that are propagated to child pages. I suspect that this misunderstand is what is causing you trouble, but if not, read this -
Here are seven common mistakes that will result in changes not propagating from Template to child -
1. Rename the Templates folder
2. Move the Templates folder to some other folder level in the site other than root level
3. Move a template out of the Templates folder.
4. Make changes to an editable region of the Template (which will not propagate)
5. Assume that Template changes will be effected by just uploading the changed Template file to the server without also uploading the changed local files
6. Corrupt the site cache so that the link between Template and child page is broken
7. Improperly create your child pages by simply opening the Template, adding page specific content, and resaving the Template with an *.html extension rather that its *.dwt extension. (you can tell if this is the case by looking at the code on a child page - if you see anything like <!-- TemplateBeginEditable... then this is what you have done). If you *have done this*, then recreate the child pages (in DWCS3) using FILE | New > Page from Template, select the Template and click CREATE.
The 6th problem can be repaired by using SITE | Advanced > Recreate Site Cache, and the six others can be fixed by just not doing them. Have you done any of those?
Or, read this -
http://www.adobe.com/go/dd83ba8b -
Updating template based XSLT page
I have the following setup: a template and a few HTML pages
based on it plus a few XSLT(.xsl) pages based on that template.
Whenever I change the template, the HTML pages are automatically
updated, but not the XSLT ones, even tough they appear in the list
from the "update pages" dialog. If I load the XSLT page and choose
from the menu Modify>Templates>Update Current Page, the page
gets updated. If I choose Modify>Templates>Update Pages, it
doesn't work.
This is happening only in Dreamweaver CS4, it was working in
CS3.
Recreating site cache doesn't solve the problem.
Is there any option to enable so that all the pages based on
a template (not only the HTML ones gets updated?
Thanks,

(you can tell if this is the case by looking at the code on a child page - if you see anything like <!-- TemplateBeginEditable... then this is what you have done). If you *have done this*, then recreate the child pages (in DW) using FILE | New > Page from Template, select the Template and click CREATE.
The 6th problem can be repaired by using SITE | Advanced > Recreate Site Cache, and the six others can be fixed by just not doing them. Have you done any of those?

Templates not updating pages at all
I have a similar problem to several other posters. I have one
template that is attached to about a dozen pages. When I make a
change to the template, and then save it, not dialog comes up
asking if I want to update the dependent pages, and the changes are
not reflected in the page, it just saves the document.
If I open one of the dependent pages, and do
Modify>Template>Apply template to page, the changes do show
up.
I have other sites on this computer where the Template
function works correctly, so it is not a bug or problem with my
Dreamweaver, just this particular template or site. I am using
Dreamweaver 8.0.2 on a Mac Book Pro (the newer Intel one).
You can see the template here:
http://salidarec.com/Templates/Salida-Rec-Main.dwt
and an example of a dependent page here:
http://salidarec.com/
As I look at the code, it seems like it makes sense, I just
am at a loss for what to do.
Here is what I have done, all to no avail:
Recreated the site cache
Manually deleted the site cache files and then recreated them
Made some new test pages using New page from Template dialog
I am aware of the common template pitfalls, and have not done
any of these things.
1. Rename the Templates folder
2. Move the Templates folder to some other folder level in
the site other
than root level
3. Move a template out of the Templates folder.
4. Make changes to an editable region of the template (which
will not
propagate)
5. Assume that template changes can be uploaded to the server
without also
uploading the changed local files
6. Corrupt the site cache so that the link between template
and child page
is broken
Any suggestions are appreciated.
markExport the site definition. Remove the site definition.
Import the site
definition. Better?

Updating child pages from a template in CS4
I built a site that uses one template. Everything was going along fine I'd make a change to the template and I was able to update all the child pages. I made changes to the template yesterday and nothing updates. I try using the update the site... I choose the files that use and the one template I have and none of the pages update. I've tries re-saving the template file as a template and still nothing updates.
It has never immediately done an automatic update to the pages. It always seems to be a while before the update these pages pallette comes up. And again sometimes it will update all the pages, but most of the time not.
I've done a search of the discussions to see if I could find a solution, before I posted this. The ones I found do not have a solution that works for me.
So does anyone know what to do?
On a related issue... I usually create a page save the page to the site folder and then apply the template. I have tried to create the page from the template, but the graphic in the background of the container div doesn't show up. I usually have to then apply the template to the newly created page to get that to show up. So what's up with this?
Thank you!

Try saving the page to the site after creating it, even though the graphic doesn't show up. It should appear when you save it.
Just for drill, here is my "Seven Common Mistakes" post - do any of these cover your situation?
Here are seven common mistakes that will result in changes not propagating from Template to child -
1. Rename the Templates folder
2. Move the Templates folder to some other folder level in the site other than root level
3. Move a template out of the Templates folder.
4. Make changes to an editable region of the Template (which will not propagate)

Child pages inheriting editable regions from template
I have looked far and wide and cannot find an answer to this problem:
We recently did a homepage update where the nested and/or second level template (index_template.dwt) was changed. Since much of the formatting was the same - I duplicated the original index_template and made all necessary changes. From this template two child pages were created for our US and UK site. Upon creating the page(s) from the index_template they are inheriting the editable regions, thus not having the ability to update when changes are being made to the template. I have tried multiple ways in an attempt to correct this - but to no avail. Does anyone have a clue how to correct this? As of now I have to manually update all 3 pages.
BTW I am also a relatively new user who was thrown into managing our company website and pretty much doing a redo on the whole thing. Talk about a learning experience!My issue is when you create a page from a template they are not supposed to inherit the editable regions less otherwise marked.
But that is not true. A newly created child page will inherit ALL content from its template. But changes to the editable region contents in the template will NOT propagate to existing child pages.
So, for example, if I want all child pages to have an embedded stylesheet in the head that is EDITABLE, my template would look like this -
<!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="head" -->
<style type="text/css">
</style>
<!-- TemplateEndEditable -->
All newly created child pages will then look like this -
<!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="head" -->
<style type="text/css">
</style>
<!-- InstanceEndEditable -->
If I then go back to the template and change it like this -
<!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="head" -->
<style type="text/css">
body { margin:0; }
</style>
<!-- TemplateEndEditable -->
that change will NOT propagate to existing child pages, but WILL appear in child pages created subsequently to the save of the template after the change.
And by the way, it's always been this way.
