Link Zoom H1 audio with iMovie

I am shooting a video with my iPad while using a Zoom H1 portable mic at the same time. Then I am trying add the audio from the Zoom to an iMovie video, then align the two audios and use only the Zoom audio.  When I align the two it pins the audio to the video and then it won't let me edit the audio. Is there a way to align the two without pinning it?
Thanks for any help on this matter.

As someone whose career so far has been mostly stills, this is an area that is so troublematic (to coin a word) that many of the videographers I know of simply state they do NOT take much more than a few crucial moments of audio at weddings, but use the visuals placed over either rights-free or paid-for music. Recording sound with a camera rarely gets GOOD sound, using a remote like the Z-H1 means a TON of matching clips to audio footage. In other words, hours of post just to match the dang things before you even begin editing for content/appearance.
Best wishes ... I've not heard of an "easy" way to do this, but I'll certainly be watching to see if someone here has a good idea ...

  • Problems audio with iMovie 08

Hello, for some time I have been using iMovie 08 to create video
conferences using pictures. I found it to be pretty good (except for some
defects in the program which would need to be adjusted). But there is a big
problem when I need to modify a file in iMovie that I had already created.
If I change or add new photos, the audio clip loses it's format completely
(volume, in and out audio fader, etc.). It is not possible to get back
the correct format. It is a disaster this way because I am forced to start
from scratch a brand new project. Would it help to re-install the program?
Thanking you in advance for any help you can give me.
    Pierre

it was the latest version of 08. i've upgraded her to 09 now, to no avail.
there are no effects on the movie at all. only movie clips and a few audio tracks.

  • How do I link video to audio in Imovie 11

If I've imported a sound track and placed it over existing audio/video, is there a way for my to link the audio to the video and, then, edit (e.g. trim segments) both as thouh they were one?

  • Recording audio with iMovie '09???

Hi there, I've been recording some stuff through my webcam using iMovie...but there is no audio. There isn't even an option I need to select in order to start getting audio! What do I do?

    Welcome to Disccussions, wanno101
If your audio still does not record after you follow after you follow JG99's excellent advice, check your iMovie voiceover setting to be sure you are using the correct "Record From:" source as shown in this image:
This is where you select the voice recording source in iMovie 8 (from iLife '09).

  • Capturing Video w/Audio in iMovie?

    Hi,
I was just wondering if it's possible, using the iSight and the built-in mic on a MBP, to capture video w/audio with iMovie? Or just video w/out audio? I tried to capture video, but the audio didn't seem to come through at all. If it's not possible, any program reccomendations?
    Cheers,
    Tom.

    Hi Tom:
Just to be sure, do you have thee timeline audio boxes checked?

  • Is there a way to make an audio clip not cover the whole project? I want to add audio clip or song and let it start at a certain point in the project. I'm working with iMovie on IPad!

Is there a way to make an audio clip not cover the whole project in iMovie? I want to add audio clip or song and let it start at a certain point in the project. Whenever I add audio or song it covers the whole project. I'm working with iMovie on IPad!

Thank you for your reply Karsten but unfortunately this didn't help me so far. Or maybe I'm missing something?
First the link is a tutorial for iMovie on a Mac. I'm using iMovie on iPad so the steps are inapplicable.
Second it is only possible for me to manipulate the end part of the sound clip to whichever duration I want. But I can't do the same with the 'beginning' of the sound clip.
I simply want to place some photos in the beginning of my video with no sound in the background then after like 2 secs I want to start the music clip. For some reason that is not possible! Cause every time I drop the music clip unto my project timeline it automatically place it self along with the first frame in the project! And consequently the photos and music are forced to start together.
    Hope I'm making sense...

Go to the Map mode in your iDVD project and make sure the blue bin at the left is empty.  That's where you drag slideshows to if you want the DVD to open immediately to that slideshow and bypass the menu.
If there is an item in there drag it out.

  • Casio EX-S880 video works with iMovie '08 if audio transcoded

    Hi,
Just to let you know that Casio EX-S880 video clips work with iMovie '08 (tested 7.0.1) if you first transcode the audio to AAC. The camera creates H.264 / DVI ADPCM video clips (and they look pretty nice with 848x480 resolution!). iMovie '08 does not like that audio codec. E.g. with QuickTime Pro you can open the original MOV clip, then export it to MP4 with video "Pass Through" and audio AAC. This way you can preserve the original video image quality.
Or if you have ffmpeg, same thing can be achieved with: "ffmpeg -i original.mov -vcodec copy -acodec libfaac -ab 64k target.mp4". Btw, current MacPorts version of ffmpeg (0.4.9-pre1) does not recognize the DVI ADPCM audio, you'll need to compile a newer version from the ffmpeg source repository. Recent ffmpeg recognizes the audio as "adpcmimawav".

  • Audio Sync problem with iMovie/iDvd

    Hi guys
I am using imovie HD6. I have been working on a project for a few months now...it runs around 20 minutes.
I exported it to idvd, burnt and watched it recently - when it was around 15 minutes long and all audio was fine.
I have since added about 5 minutes. The audio plays fine when watched on my mac in imovie - however last night I burnt it to DVD using idvd and the audio is about half a second out of sync in one of the two interviews I have in the early stages on the projects. Both interviews were made using the same video camera. An interview in the new part of the project has the same problem.
I always use the same camera and have about 3 finished projects with interviews where the audio is fine.
Can anyone suggest a way to correct this problem?
    Many thanks
    Ross

Like many others, the sync issue is when taking a long clip or clips to iDVD to make a disc. The movie runs fine in the iMovie preview, but slowly goes out of sync in the final iDVD version. I used a Panasonic miniDV camcorder, 16-bit sound, SP record mode. I also tried extracting the audio in iMovie, then taking it to iDVD - no help. Then I tried breaking the movie into shorter clips (still with the audio extracted), saving it as a quicktime movie, then taking it into iDVD - no help. Although the breaking into shorter clips was done after the video was already imported. So, after all of this not working, I've now scrapped all of the imported video and started over. This time I set the import preference to automatically break the video into 9-minute clips as it's being imported. I read in the forumn that that's the "true" way to break into shorter segments - not after import. I'm just now in the process of seeing if that will help matters. Any suggestions? I'm really at a loss for ideas since I did the original recording in 16-bit sound. Everything I've read seems to indicate that 12-bit sound is the main culprit with out-of-sync issues.

  • Syncing External Audio with Video on iMovie

If syncing external audio with video on imovie, once successfully syncing the 2 is it possible to permanantly merge them so that I can continue trimming and rearranging clips without having to continue to re-sync the audio and video after every change I make?

In Final Cut Pro X, yes. In iMovie...no.
The workaround in iMovie is to sync your external audio to the video clip. Mute the audio on the video clip so all that is left is the good audio. Then use SHARE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME. Choose Movie to QuickTime Movie and under Options choose Apple Intermediate Codec as the Video Codec.
Then save this clip in a place you can find it. Finally, import this new clip back into your event.

  • Audio Syncing Issue with iMovie 10.0.1

As was the case with iMovie 9, there is an issue with the audio syncing properly to the video when uploaded to YouTube. I am wondering if anyone knows of the workaround for the same issue with iMovie 10 (Mavericks)?
    Thanks!

The bar codes are generated from an online service and are downloaded as vector art in the form of EPS files.I am opening the file in Illustrator after downloading the EPS file. I am not scaling it in any way, it just opens in Illustrator "wrong". "Placing" the file creates the same distorted effect. The EPS file looks fine if I view it in Preview or open it in Photoshop, but I need to use it as vector art.

  • Some Audio Issues with Imovie 09

    hey guys,
when i make my videos with imovie, i mute the sound of the video clip and synchronize the video to music. I dont want the audio from the actual clip to play.
When i export the video (i select the 'export using quicktime') and watch it in quicktime, there are random bits of audio from the clips (sometimes not even the same clip). It is rather annoying because it really takes away from the intensity of the video.
I checked through the video, and all the clips that have sound (when watching in quicktime) are indeed muted. when i play the video in IMOVIE there is no random sound but when i play the video in QUICKTIME (the exported video) there are random bits of sound.
Anyone know how to eliminate this?
    thanks

I really don't know, but I suspect it is tricky to eliminate frames or double frames and keep the sound synched. When you stick to a preset, you are eliminating or doubling an integer number of frames. When you do a number like 39%, you have to approximate to achieve that percentage while still being constrained to full frames.. This leads to problems with the synch.
In Final Cut Pro, you could do this with great flexibility, but it requires a great deal of effort to learn how to use all that flexibility. In iMovie, they provided some sophisticated features, but made the controls pretty vanilla, so they work for the average user. I think in this case, they imply a greater level of flexibility (through the speed slider) than they can deliver.
Just my opinion. Maybe someone knows the real reason.

  • EQ ing iMovie HD audio with Logic Express

I realize that this question pertains to both iMovie HD and Logic Express. I thought it best to try this forum because it deals with audio.
I have some footage was taken of a Jazz trio I play with. I imported one of the songs into iMovie. Everything is cool but the sound. It was the sound was recorded with the video camera's built in mic which was too close to the cymbals. I would like to be able to import the audio from iMovie into Logic express and then do a bit of EQ ing and perhaps a bit of compression.
I think that I know where to fine the audio iMovie audio files once I've extracted them from the clips. What I was wondering about is.......
What do I need to know as far as the audio sampling rates from iMovie to Logic Express go? Do I need to set up Logic Express in such a way that it matches the sampling rate of iMovie? What is the sampling rate of iMovie. In chapter 4 of the Martin Sitter book there are some things about sampling rates and how they are converted automatically to work in LE but I was not sure if I would then need to save the new audio file in a certain sampling rate so that I would wok in iMovie.
    Any thoughts on this?
    Thanks,
    Morris

  • Need help with audio in imovie

Allright for some reason my new not even a month old macbook has stopped including audio when i use i movie. what i mean is that it will record videos just fine but will not carry the audio with it. it used to i did some beatbox videos and it was great but then it stopped im not sure what i did. im rather new with this thing ive had windows for 17 years. but ive got the hang now. I just dont understand why the mic wont record the audio. it will respond to voice commands annd stuff but not when recording a movie whats up with that??

    Hi DJ
    Vild guess.
A program has probably changed audio in port.
Go up left to Apple menu
    down to System pref
    select Audio
select in - What is it set to ? Mic or Line ?
Change and test - eventually increas sound input and output adjustments.
    Yours Bengt W
