Linked cards?

What am I supposed to do with the Linked Cards option in iOS 4? I thought it might be nice to use for families to hook up husbands and wives, but it's annoying that I have to pick one of the contacts to represent the linked pair. I tried creating a new contact that has just the last name of the couple and linking both to that, but that's just weird. And then there's the problem of all the mobile numbers getting jumbled up on the unified contact. How do I know which is for John and which is for Jane? I can't seem to make up a "her mobile" and "his mobile" label like I used to.
Second issue - how does it work with Gmail's contacts? I don't see any linking when I log into my Gmail account online so I'm worried I'm going to start making a mess if I link up a bunch of contacts on the phone.
Is this something I should explore or should I ignore it?

I called Apple Support and was shoveled up to level 2 and he said he "wasn't very well versed in Linked Cards" so would have to investigate and get back to me. This all seems like a good idea gone bad. Wish they gave us the option to link or not.

I just spent most of the evening struggling with this issue, and was making plans to call AppleCare tomorrow or even visit the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store. After I found the above quote, I fixed 400+ duplicates in under a minute.

Merge linked cards - feature request

This is not really a question. I used to be able to keep my iOS devices in sync with my computer AND my gmail contacts. With iCloud the ability to merge two ways on the computer (both with mac.com and gmail.com) is gone. On iOS I can get the merged contact info through the linked cards but I cannot have a change made in gmail propapate to my computer address book and vice versa. At the very least I would like the ability to have the merged card be the master that is pushed to all linked cards. I.e., if my iOS device gets a change from gmail it updates the merged card and that update also pushes to the iCloud card the same way it would have if I had made the change on the iOS device.
I understand if Apple would prefer that I ditch gmail and use their offering instead, but do that by being better, not by making me have to choose. That is childish and short-sighted. Perhaps it is technically too difficult (to make it easy to use), but I doubt that is the problem. Hopefully we'll see an update that addresses this issue soon.

You might be able to get where you want using Chaotic Software's MediaRage. It can automate and batch tag editing, including building a Title tag that combines Artist and Title and, to possibly address you other problem, blanking the Artist tag.
MediaRage is not expensive and it is very powerful, you can even define regexs for how to parse tags.

Linked cards in Contacts?

K8n diamond plus sli link card

bought a open box k8n diamond plus from newegg and it didn't come with a sli link card

it was a open box board that turned out to be just a board LOL.
i'm still looking for the full install of the creative software.
the drivers load but none of the base creative software is in the
msi downloads.
so digicell can't fine the creative programs.
i upgraded the bios to 1.20 and am waiting for the sli bridge
so i can put the other 7900gt ko 512meg card in.
runs good with just one, it should run even better when both are in.

IOS 6, no linked cards

I don't know what I'm missing. I used to be able to see the option when I edit a contact to "link" another contact card to it.
Now I don't see that option at all.
Did this feature go missing in iOS 6?!

Got this problem since I moved from 4S to 5. Almost 6 month ago that my phone doens't show any call history.

Birthdays on linked cards

When I link two contact cars, such as my brother and his wife, the birthdays do not display properly on my calendar. Any ideas how to fix? I have unlinked them, but I would prefer to have them linked.

Sorry - probablly not clear enough.
WQhat should happen is that when you set the preference to show birthdays in iCal, iCal creates a new calendar called Birthdays. When you open iCal you should see it.
In iTunes, Info tab, in the part where you chooose whether to sync calendars, there should be a list of possible claendars to sync. Birthdays should show on that list. Either check 'Sync all calendars' or, if you have lots and don't want to sycn them all, check the option to sync only the ones you choose, and then sync Birthdays.

I have a d-link usb card on older pc, need N card

Airport works fine with ipod and Dell windows 7. Other computer is compaq with d link card. d link card in usb won't work with airport.
It starts but than fails. do i need an N card for compaq?

It could be just the age of the card or the OS being used.
AC wireless really requires the best wireless security.. WPA2 Personal (in normal terms WPA2 AES).
Older cards are not capable of this security level.. so yes, you need to buy a new USB wireless/internal if desktop.. but more importantly make sure the drivers fully support highest security and OS should be win7 or later.. xp with all the latest updates is probably ok. .vista was such a dog nobody could recommend it.
An alternative is to use airport extreme or express (you can buy a cheap second hand one) in extend wireless or bridge and simply use the computer with ethernet.. that solves buying products that are going to actually work with apple wireless since it is just ethernet.

Check you user manual for the PCMCIA port specifications which is included on the notebook.
In my knowledge the notebook supports cardbus 32-Bit/PC-Card 16-Bit slot and only the PCMCIA Type-II are compatible.
I have goggled around and found many external PCMCIA cards which supports the firewire and are i-Link compatible.

G5 Can't See Gigabit Ethernet Card

Some months back, I installed a gigabit ethernet card into my G5. It worked fine for a few months, then stopped working with a message: The cable for PCI Ethernet Slot 3, Port 2 is not plugged in. I wasn't working on the project that required that connection, so I just let it go. Now I need to connect to a different gigabit switch. I installed a new D-Link card into the same slot as before - same result. I moved the D-Link card to a different slot - and got the same error - still referring to Slot 3. Just for kicks, I installed the old card back into slot 2 (the one above the video card). Same error - and no mention of finding two cards or of anything in the other slots. It seems as if somehow all of the PCI slots are being ignored.
Running the System Profiler, I get a "No Information Found" for PCI Cards. None of the lights on either ethernet card come on. Any ideas? Everything else on the machine seems to be working correctly - the built-in ethernet is fine. There are a lot of drives connected to the system (4 on the FireWire 800, 1 on FW 400, 4 on USB). Is there some way to force a re-scan of the PCI bus? or turn it on?

Yes - I tried swapping slots. A gigabit card worked fine in slot 3 for several months. It stopped working - I figured it was the card that was th eproblem. I have since replaced the card, and then moved the new one to a different slot. The Network control panel still reports a card in slot 3, even though there is nothing in slot 3. The new card is in slot 4 (and just for kicks the old card is in slot 2). Neither of these is recognized by the the System Profiler or the network control panel.

Problem with D-link DFE 520 TX NIC.

I got a internet connection (ADSL) recently.
I can browse using Windows, but I cannot browse using Solaris 10 x86
(6/06).
I have a Gigabyte 8LD 533 Motherboard with 512 MB RAM, a D-link 520
TX ( I did not have much options. Rest were either D-link cards that
didnt look like they were
supported by Solaris at all, or other cards that were way too
expensive) and dual boot Windows XP SP2 and Solaris 10 x86 (6/06).
I googled a bit and found that Realtec drivers seem to work for some D-
link NICs so downloaded the RTLS211.zip file and unzipped the file.
This file created rtls (which is
32 bit executable), rtls.conf, Install (Installation script file) and
the read me file for Solaris.Followed the instructions and added
"pci1186,1405" in the Install file.
Then rebooted Solaris. Got the following message:

time when I tried it using the IDs after
doublechecking the output of prtconf and then ran the install file, it
said it had installed the driver).
Hence tried manually setting the IP Address using the following
command
ipconfig rtls0 (I used the same IP Address which was shown by
executing a ipconfig command in Windows XP).
Trying ipconfig -a again, it had taken the IP Address, the broadcast
IP Address too had been assigned automatically, yet I could not ping.
So googled again by typing the error message in search field and after
that did the following:
Updated the hosts file and the ipnodes file as shown:

How do I link contacts on the MACBook Pro?

Is contact linking not available on the MACbook Pro?
I'm using OSX 10.9.2, Contacts 8.0?
I can only find how to merge contacts on the MAC but not link them as I can on my iPhone. Am I missing something?

Although each action is similar in each OS, they are ultimately a bit different. While contacts in Mavericks "merge" and become one contact (unless in different accounts), on iOS 7 when you link 2 contacts they remain two unique contacts and the information is just shared. See the following Knowledge Base article respectively to get a clear explanation of each:

If you have more than one card for a contact, you can combine them, preserving all the unique information.
If the contact cards are in different accounts: You can link them, which retains the separate cards, but displays the combined contact information in one card.If contacts have the same name, the cards are linked automatically.
If the contact cards are in the same account: You can merged them, which combines the cards into one card.
If you remove an account with linked cards, the cards simply unlink, and only the cards in that account are removed.

Unify contacts. If two entries for the same person aren’t linked automatically, you can unify them manually. Edit one of the contacts, tap Edit, then tap Link Contact and choose the other contact entry to link to.
Linked contacts aren’t merged. If you change or add information in a unified contact, the changes are copied to each source account where that information already exists.
If you link contacts with different first or last names, the names on the individual cards won’t change, but only one name appears on the unified card. To choose which name appears when you view the unified card, tap Edit, tap the linked card with the name you prefer, then tap Use This Name For Unified Card.

Need New Video Cards for 4 Displays

Hi,
I want to install 4 displays, with one being a 30". Will the Radeon 9200 PCI, and 9600 pro work for this?
I saw that 9600pro only boots in "safe mode" but that's the only AGP card I can find that will run the 30".
Are there any PCI cards with two DVI ports?

Wouldn't getting the 9600 and a 9200 be the most cost effective?
Need two 9200's and one 9600 to connect 4 DVI displays. At around $400, it would be the cheapest. The 9200, though, will have minimal graphics acceleration and no Core Image support. Quartz Extreme is also not supported, unless hacked. Either the hack, or the lack of CI or QE support may affect software performance negatively.
Depending on the distance from the source computer, a signal booster may be required. 5 meters is the maximum a DVI signal can travel, but lesser powered cards may have difficulty at 10 feet (or less). If a booster were needed, a 9600 and a splitter would be better.
Wouldn't the splitter just mirror the output?
The splitter mirrors the output of the primary display +on the splitter+, not necessarily the card.
When you say "better" what do you mean? I won't be doing much 3D stuff and no gaming.
The linked cards support Core Image, Quartz Extreme, 30" ACD, and have power enough to send clean DVI signal farther.
Plus I can't find it new which is how I would prefer to buy it.
The Flashed PC cards are new. Because of the fact that they have been installed in a machine to flash the Mac ROM to them, eBay rules require that the card be listed as used.
