Linking 2 songs

i purchased 2 songs from itunes. they are both from the same album and artist. one song is an intro into the other song. i always listen to my library on shuffle. is there any way to make is so those 2 songs always play together? can I link them so they play as one song?

Well...I was going to suggest this: http://dougscripts.com/itunes/itinfo/jointogether.php
But...are you really on Windows XP? You have posted in the iTunes for Mac forum....and a script won't work on Windows.

  • Linking songs in itunes to be played one after another, even in shuffle

Hey guys I've been looking around for an answer to this question and still no luck. I dont think its possible but Ill ask anyway. Im trying to link songs togther so that they will always be played one after the other even during shuffle mode. For example, some songs are always meant to played one after the other, such as "We Will Rock You>We Are the Champions" by Queen, or "Golden Slumbers>Carry That Weight>The End" by The Beatles. Anyone know if this is possible somehow? I can make them play gaplessly but that only does anything if shuffle is off.

The answer is to *Join CD Tracks* before you import them into your library.
When you insert a CD into your disc drive and it shows up in iTunes (for importing) highlight the tracks (which need to be adjacent of course) and select *Advanced/Join CD Tracks.* You can join all three Beatles tracks. Once they are joined, then you can import them into the library. So you will have to import these tracks again (and remove the originals, if you wish).
Note that you cannot join them after importation.

  • Replacement or linked song on Spotify's catalog is wrong

Today I wanted to listen to a song in spotify's catalog (not a local file) and the song played was a live version. This was wrong because the song that should have been played (and the one I wanted to listen to) was the studio version that was released with the album.
It strikes me as odd because I remember hearing the studio version on spotify. Also, all the other songs in the same album are not linked/replaced. So it was probably replaced after the live version was added to the catalog.
I don't really know what criteria you use in order to replace/link songs but one of them should be: if the song's name metadata has no "live" in it, then it shouldn't be replaced/linked with one that has it and viceversa.

    Per,
If they are having the same problem that I am, the issues is not a wrong track on spotify but spotify linking a local file that is a different version (usually a live version) of the song and playing the local file and not the spotify/album version. Example: Today I was listening the The Features new album The Features. I have a live version of two of the songs, when listening to the album straight from the Features page, it played both live version of the songs I have locally instead of the studio version of the songs from the album. So while your adivce is helpful, I do not think it applies to the situation described above and that I am having.
    Hey :)
On those tracks that are being played incorrectly, right click on the track name and select "Unlink Track". That will break the link between your local file and that track and then stream it from Spotify ;)

  • Linking songs

I have song files in my library that are separated, but which in fact should be linked with other song files, such as Queen's We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions. Are there ways to link such tracks or append the file to another?

I'd like to be able to do this, too. I have a lot of live albums in which the artist's introductory remarks are a separate track from the song being introduced. It's pretty frustrating to hear the intro and not get the song. ;-0
I can imagine this working like this: select the tunes to be linked, then right click for a context menu and select a new "link songs" option.
From then on the two tracks are treated as one for the purposes of shuffle play.

  • Linking songs together

i was wondering if there was a way to link songs together so when playing music in shuffle mode i can set certain songs to play together before moving on to another random song. basically how can i make 2 or 3 songs play as if they were 1 song. for example, Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall Pt1" "The Happiest Days of our Lives" & "Another Brick in the Wall Pt2" is sort of a trilogy of songs that should be played in their respective order one after the other. However when playing in shuffle mode, it will randomly select songs and never plays them in order or one after the other. How can i make it so iTunes thinks the three songs are actually just one, and therefore always plays them together and in order. I have other songs that i'd like to do this with as well. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance, GL

With iTunes you can only do this while ripping from a CD. (See the option in the "Advanced" menu.) For existing files you'd have to use some other application.

  • Linking Songs in I-tunes

Is there a way to link songs in I-tunes so that one song will always play after the other regardless of shuffle settings? Or, is there an ability to simply combine two songs. My specific problem is that I have two songs (Parabol and Parabola by Tool), the first of which is an intro for the other. I would like to create a playlist with these songs and be able to listen on random, but always have these two songs play together.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

OK, I figured out how to do it:
I haven't found a fancy GUI or anything for it. You'll have to use the command prompt!
    1. Download FAAD2 and extract the exe to a folder.
    2. Download mp4creator and extract the exe to the same folder as above.
    3. Copy your original AAC files to the same folder
    4. Open a command prompt and navigate to the folder.
    5. Type this command to extract the raw AAC from "input1.m4a" :<pre>faad -a input1-raw.m4a input1.m4a</pre>
    6. Repeat step 5 for the other track: <pre>faad -a input2-raw.m4a input2.m4a</pre>
    7. Join the two files together with "copy":<pre>copy /b input1-raw.m4a input2-raw.m4a input-joined.m4a</pre>
    8. Now make a file playable in iTunes:<pre>mp4creator60.exe -create=input-joined.m4a output-joined.m4a</pre>
Now you can import "output-joined.m4a" into iTunes. NOTE: the joined file will not have any tags; you will have to add them in iTunes or another tagging program.

  • Is there a way on logic studio to laterally link songs for live settings. I never switched to ableton as my tracks are not as loop based and am trying to figure out a way to create a stream of linked songs without blowing out my cpu- maybe logic studio?

i think my question is in the header but i have this dream of taking a string of tracks(songs) and having them synched in a way that I can bring in a kick of one while my synth line from the last is still running- like spinning records but this sounds like a dream because that means two songs would have to be up at once and not only that but timed to be playing at once (all tracks connected to external controllers too) and the CPU would be crazy. This idea would be for the developers to figure out a way to create a system that allows the host song to fade out as the new one comes in in terms of power and their would have to be a new interface that would link the two. i am an electronic dance music producer and some songs are 8 minutes long with some of the tracks as composition piano styles that is hard to loop up and put inside a system like ableton to trigger and the accompanying string lines that are timed against the pianos so was just looking for a way to embed from track to track... any thoughts out there- i am now switching over to studio from pro for 4 years so maybe it's already done but for some reason - i think not. Hope my question is not too silly for the serious pro's out there.
Also, maybe logic should have an appendage platform to each individual track that has a pop and play interface to it that allows people to easily trigger and play each song live. Each song has a live version that has a brighter easier platform to see at night shows and it is still embedded within the original track-- then these appendage live songs can then be linked together. This appendage could be called LOGIC LIVE tracks.

I almost forgot that using folders can allow each folder to contain a song. I also recall touch tracks or one key play...

  • Is it possible to link songs in itunes?

I'd like to be able to link certain songs together, as often heard on the radio for tunes like Train, Train, by Blackfoot; or Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody and We Are the Champions.

Perhaps creating a static playlist would take care of that.

I would love that feature. I can't stand useing my computer with a single wall paper anymore (I have 500 anime pics that i rotate between every 2 mins ) If you could make the vision rotate background every x minutes or every time the player is turned on, it would be totally amazeningly sweet!!!! I just hope that creative has better firmware support with the vision than they have had with the touch.

  • Linking songs to multiple albums

Is there anyway that you can link a song to multiple albums in your iTunes library? I find that I often have songs that appear on several different albums - for instance they may appear on the original studio album, but then also appear on Greatest Hits albums or compilation albums as well. I'd like to be able to link the song so it shows up in the track listings for every album it appears on - without having to have multiple copies of the song on my Ipod Touch.
Does anyone know of anyway to do this?

*Is there anyway that you can link a song to multiple albums in your iTunes library?*
No there's not. iTunes doesn't have an option to allow a single song to be linked to more than one album. As you've discovered, if a song appears on more than one album you need multiple copies of it. You can send feedback/feature requests directly to Apple at this link and provide them with your comments. Maybe a future version of iTunes will incorporate a multi-album option: Apple Product Feedback

  • Re-linking songs to moved files

Because my laptop was running out of space I had to move many of my music files to an external drive. Obviously I can't play those files which featured in my iTunes playlists unless I reconnect them.
Is there any automatic way that iTunes can relocate these files or do I have to go through each song separately and create the link?
There are several hundred files involved so it would be a painstaking job if I had to do it one by one.

In the meantime, and in answer to your question, the files I have moved are tracks I ripped from my own CDs so they were not in the usual iTunes folder.
What did you rip them with? How are they laid out?
If iTunes rips a music file it ends up at:
    *<Path to iTunes Media Folder>\<Music>\<Artist>\<Album>\## <Name>.<ext>*
Where there are specific limits on the length of file & folder names and all characters that are not allowing filenames are replaced with the underscore.
I have a script that can effetively "guess" where iTunes would normally put things and therefore work out where they would be if you had changed anything in the upper levels of the path, *<Path to iTunes Media Folder>\<Music>* - e.g. by moving a bunch of files to a different drive.
Personally I use different rules, full length file & folder names up to the OS limit, and different replacements, e.g. double quote becomes 2 single quotes, and have a slightly different version of the script which I now use to impose my rules without having to rename things by hand and then delete from iTunes & reimport
If you can define the rules that govern the path to missing files in terms of a common root path and then a futher breakdown by album, artist and track no. & name, plus any limits or character replacement rules then it should be possible to tweak the existing script to find your missing files.
Alternatively put them back where they used to be, turn off the iTunes option to "Keep the iTunes Media Folder Organised* or "Copy files when adding to the media library", then set a new base path for the library on your external, decline the offer to move your files there, then consolidate the files you do want to move out to the external before deleting the originals on C:.
Better yet after restoring the missing files so that iTunes can find them again, move your entire iTunes folder out to the external drive and then consolidate everything into the one location.

  • Re-linking songs: anyway to relink several songs at a time?

I have to relink probably 200 songs (out of 3,000 in the library).
I am doing it one-at a time and was wondering if I could point out the Drive where all the songs are and iTunes would be smart enough to relink all the songs?

I had this a few weeks ago. The cause was a script that I used to re-randomise my smart playlists. It used to work perfecly but since upgrading to Leopard it actually deleted huge chunks of my iTunes library.
Using time machine I was able to recover the lost files.
In terms of re-linking your files to iTunes in one go... try pressing the 'Alt' key while iTunes starts up. This will allow you to re-import your library & all files will then be re-linked.
    Hope this helps

  • HELP linking songs to ext HD  - moved music folder - got Exclamation marks

I moved my music folder to an ext HD per the Apple article. Songs in my library have exclamation marks next to them & cannot be automatically located by iTunes. I can access them manually, but am looking for a way to correct whatever I did wrong that killed the link to my library & make the exclamation marks go away.
    Thanks!

A library is everything in the iTunes folder.  Was the whole folder copied?  If not, you only transferred media, not the whole library.
You do not tell iTunes where to find media by changing the preferences settings.  You tell iTunes where to find media by either adding it to iTunes in the first place or by letting iTunes move the media.  Changing preferences settings only tells iTunes where to put media from that point on.

What do you want on the external drive?  The whole library, or only media?
Typically if you break the links to all files by moving the media folder to another drive in Finder iTunes will ask you to find a file.  It will then offer to find others (takes some time).  If it did not offer to do this or that didn't work then you have a non-standard folder structure and you are best off using your backup to restore everything and go back to the beginning and move it properly (we can help you with that).  If you don't have a backup then it will take some effort to rebuild your library file and some data will be lost (ratings, date added, playcounts).

  • Linking songs in shuffle mode

I am very new to the i-tunes/i-pod environment. I hope my question has a very simples answer:
    1) Is there a way to link two or more individual songs together (in I-tunes) so that they will always play in sequence on a shuffle?
    2) Does the trick work on the i-pod as well (I have a 5th generation, 40MB ipod)?
    THANKS!!!
    Rogerio

The only way you could do that would be if you joined the tracks as you were ripping them from a CD so that they would be one track. Given that you already have the tracks, no.

  • Linking songs in shuffle

Is there a way to link two or more individual songs together so that they will always play in sequence on a shuffle?

I dunno, I was wanting the opposite.
For instance, I will have one artist that kind of does slow songs. When I am working out, that artist will come up and I get another slow one from that same artist. Well, I'm working out, I want something faster.
So I hit the next button and sometimes another song from that same slow artist starts. But not all the time.
Anyway I don't want the same artist to come up twice, sometimes it does that in its shuffle algorithm.
And I definitely know I have the switch on the back set to shuffle.

  • How can I link songs located on a separate HDD to my Windows desktop icon?

    Hi
On installing and loading my 7,000+ songs to my iTunes & iPod Classic I did so via an external hard drive, which at that time had been given the letter G:. On reconnecting the HDD, it has now become H: and the iTunes icon on my notebook desktop no longer links to my iTunes files on the external HDD. It tells me that "Program" is not a valid file!
Having once connected my iPod Classic in a situation like this, with auto sync switched off, I lost my installed library (on the iPod)and got something almost emtpy instead. A total uninstall and reinstall resulted in my getting the HDD-located library back into my iPod. I would naturally like to avoid having to do this every time I make changes to my library.
What settings in Windows do I need to adjust to be able to access my songs on the HDD for play either on my computer or guaranteed transfer to my iPod? As much as I am falling in love with Apple technology (and may leave Windows in due course) I am still with Windows and a little lost with Apple that permits little or no adjustments on where to place files and programmes.

You can force the external drive to "grab" a specific drive letter. First remove all external storage devices except the hard drive with your music (this includes unplugging USB keys, card readers, etc.). Then:
    # Right-click "My Computer" and choose "Manage" from the menu
    # In the left pane, highlight "Disk Management"
    # Find your drive in the right pane and right-click it
    # Choose "Change drive letter and paths" from the menu
    # Click the "Change" button
    # Select "G" from the dropdown list
    # Click OK and close all windows
If everything in your iTunes was pointing to "G", then you should be good to go.
