Linking a Google Docs document to an InDesign document

Hi,
I have written a book in Google Docs that I'm planning to typeset in InDesign.
I want to keep editing and adding to the Google Docs document, while I'm typesetting in InDesign.
Is there a way to have the Indesign document be "dynamically" linked to the Google Docs document? So that changes made in Google Docs can be easily "pulled into" the InDesign document?
I have tried to save the Google Docs file as an RTF and I have imported that RTF as a linked file into my InDesign file, but every time I update the RTF the InDesign formatting is lost.
I'd appreciate your help.
Sincerely

function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
..  every time I update the RTF the InDesign formatting is lost ..
No personal experience with this workflow, but it sounds to me this should not happen.

  • Google docs documents often error and require page reload

When using any google docs document in Firefox on the last several FF versions, I've encountered frequent 'something went wrong' messages that require me to reload the page and that result in some of my recent work being lost or mis-formatted. This happens every 2-3 minutes in many cases.
I do not encounter these issues in safari or chrome.
This problem occurs on my office, home, friend's, and tethered connections.

Strange website problems like that are often fixed by clearing your cookies and cache:
#Go to History > Clear recent history
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.
Further information can be found in the [[Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox]] article.
If that doesn't solve the problem, you might try [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems|resetting Firefox]]

  • Firefox is opening a .pdf link with Google Docs. How can I change to a different program?

I am opening a government document from a govt webpage link. It's a pdf document, and the document opens in Google Docs. I do not want it to open in Google Docs, but don't know how to change to a different program.
I am using current Firefox; Windows 7.

Thanks for the suggestion, I should've mentioned I'd already tried that without success. I tried clearing everything in the Clear Recent History section actually but the certificate is still remembered.
I've also just now tried deleting the certificates completely but not even that works - a little concerning. (:

  • Links to Google Docs not working

    Hi,
I follow a blog which posts links to soccer results and fixtures on Google Docs. When I click on one of these links when in Safari on the Mac the document opens perfectly. When I try and link to the same document in Safari on the iPhone I get an error message instead saying "Google Docs has encountered an error".
e.g. Try this link as an example http://docs.google.com/View?id=ddtdjkcd_478dqbcffdq
Anyone got any ideas as to the cause of this?
    Thanks

Google has recognized this problem, discussion here:

  • Is it possible to link text from Pages into an InDesign document [as you can with Google docs]?

In InDesign, you can get a plug-in [word flow] which allows you to link the text in a Google Docs document into an InDesign document, so that you can edit the text in Google Docs [on your computer/tablet etc] and it will update in the InDesign document. Additionally, if you edit the text in teh InDesign docuemnt, the Google Docs file is also updated.
Is there a plug-in for Pages? Or a way to do this [without ditching Pages and starting to use Google Docs]?
    Thanks

There are no plugins for Pages for iOS. Period.

  • Using Google Docs to remotely convert documents.

Damn, this is just too cool.
GDD is a Python script that downloads all your Google Docs documents. What's even cooler is the fact that one can specify the conversion format. Which means, doc/docx/odt/rtf will be converted to HTML, xls/xlsx/ods will be converted to CSV (I don't really use spreadsheets, so I don't care) and PPT/PPTX/ODP will be converted to PNG (I hate effects anyways). I have tested it already, and the doc->html conversion works much better than OpenOffice's export functionality! Which means, you don't have to keep any office suite on your box!
I just found this thing and wanted to spread the word, so I didn't investigate it in further details. I mean, there are several things I'd like to figure out:
    1) Can Google Docs be used to convert a local file that way? E.g., if I have an HTML file, can I get a .DOC out of Google Docs without running it in a browser?
    2) Consequently, can mutt be scripted to perform that kind of conversion on every document attachment and store it with the original e-mail? I guess, one could get Gmail to send all the documents to Google Docs automatically (I think so), but that will end up as a mess.
And I'd probably rewrite the script in shell - just for fun (it could be a nice challenge, since I am currently learning shell scripting).
So, why would one need such a thing? Well, me personally, I only write documents. They are usually not very big, but they need to be done quickly. So, I prefer a text editor to a word processor. Using discount, the awesome Markdown interpreter with lots of extensions, I can get all the formatting features (tables, images, footnotes) I could possibly need from a word processor. However, I can't send documents in HTML, so it would be nice to convert those to DOC (yeah, you can just change the extension and it would work in Word anyways, but still). Finally, from time to time I do get to read spreadsheets or presentations (but I don't have to make them myself), so this functionality is also nice. I am a total geek when it comes to being lightweight, so I was really intrigued to learn about this thing.

Did you find a solution to this? Using gdd I guess one would need to do something like upload input, specify wished format, download output, remove input. Skimming through the readme, gdd did not seem to supported upload, though.
I _think_ this is possible using googlecl (http://code.google.com/p/googlecl/). You can upload the HTML file, then download the DOC pretty easily, or so it seems. Check out some googlecl examples to see what I mean (http://code.google.com/p/googlecl/wiki/ExampleScripts). googlecl is in the AUR, hope this helps.

  • Error editing the file Google Docs in Gnome-documents

Like to know if anyone managed to edit this file directly from google docs documents gnome 3.8? Here was giving an error saying that the javascript failed and that google has been informed and would be correcting now changed and the message does not say the error. Like to know if it is really a problem with google and gnome or is only here because I did not find anyone else talking about the error, but the gnome 3.8 is still very new and I do not have so many users using outside arch.

    Same here.
FWIW, I'm on google-chrome-dev, and the current Dev build broke Google Docs.
    [edited May 7, 2013]
I'm continuing to experience the same issue. When I use Gnome-documents (or, just "Documents," in Gnome 3.8), I can view a Google doc, but I cannot edit one.
When I try to edit a doc, I get an error message: "JavaScript - https://docs.google.com/docment/... This error has been reported to Goggle and we'll look into it as soon as possible. Please reload this page to continue."

  • Can't access youtube and google docs.

I can't access some websites, like youtube (I can only see a page with text and links) and google docs (firefox stops downloading like everything is correct, but nothing happens). Allready fully uninstalled (as far as I know, forgot bookmarks, passwords, etc....) firefox from my OSX 10.6. Installed it again and find the same problems. Other browsers have no problem with these websites. thanks. No errors reported by firefox.

If it works through the Ethernet port on the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) it probably has nothing to do with the AEBS. There must be something about the configuration of the computer connecting wirelessly.

  • Google docs malware on my Mac ?

If you're referring to this, it only affects Windows. You don't need to worry.

  • Scripts are crashing in Google Docs.

Whenever I have a Google Docs document open, I get script errors. With all Firefox add-ons disabled, I get this:
"A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
    Script: https://docs.google.com/wrt/client/js/193216031-EditPageModularized_editor_base_mod.js:53"
When I had adblock turned on, it gave me a script error for that instead.
Even if I tell it not to ask me again, it keeps popping up.
    I'm using
Windows XP, Firefox 3.6.11 (with all add-ons disabled)
Clearing cache and cookies didn't help.

    Hi Alex,
    Welcome to the forum.
Try selecting all the text and setting the language to English In
    +Inspector > Text > More > Language+
Failing that select the text and double click the appropriate style in the Styles Drawer to force the formatting.

  • "Import Error" with Word Document (google doc)

I tried to open a word document that I created using Google's online document program and I keep getting 'import error' when I try to open with Pages. I tried it several times on several different .doc documents created with the Google program and get the same error message.
    G4 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

It's likely they aren't true Word documents & there is some formatting or feature that the translator in Pages can't handle. Could you post a link to where these can be created so others of us can try it?

  • Google Docs link Help PLEASE

would anyone mind please helping me understand why the google doc link URL that i embed in my website keeps going to the main page instead of the document I am trying to link - or alternatively is requiring me to login before I access the document?
I /simply/ want to be able to let someone click on a link and go to a document that I have posted to Google docs and each time I do this one or the other of the above issues comes up.
I even tried to SHARE the document from withing the Google Docs interface and when I click on the two links in the email they both come up as inacessible (problem number 3).
    I've shared 2011  publication.pdf
    Click to open:
    2011  publication.pdf
Google Docs makes it easy to create, store and share online documents, spreadsheets and presentations.
I've commented out some text there but it seems to me that these never work. For instance on the last link on this page here I never get it to go to the document: http://www.universaljointdesign.com/wwwcms/welcome.php?menu=2
Can anyone push me along with this one?
    Thanks.

I got the issue. The responsibility was not attached to the user..

  • Excel Documents in Google Docs Doesn't Work on FF 4.0

I just did my recent updates of Firefox and now I cannot open any of my google doc excel files or even create a new one. I keep getting an error message that says "A browser error has occurred.
Please hold the Shift key and click the Refresh button to try again." Of course this does nothing and then I have to leave a move to a different browser to open my documents.

    Thanks for the reply.
I clear cookies and cache all the time and I've done it a few times regarding this problem as well, and I've also already tried disabling hardware acceleration. Now I tried starting Firefox in safe mode, restored defaults, disabled plugins one by one and updated the outdated ones but it didn't help. The problem's still the same.
It's not a major issue b/c simply minimizing and restoring fixes it but it's kinda odd anyway since there was no problem with earlier versions of Firefox and it occurs on every machine I've tried it with.
The ebank utilizes Java so clearly I couldn't test disabling Java plugins, but I've reinstalled Java, cleared its temporary files and removed certificates and all that doesn't help. Could it still have something to do with Java?

  • Since upgrading to firefox ver. 3.6.8 can't upload files to Google Docs, whose help forum indicates many firefox users are having this problem since upgrading to 3.6.8: You can click on the "Select files to upload" link but nothing happens.

Right-clicking on the link doesn't offer options to open anywhere (new tab, etc.)

There is a problem with uploading files to Google docs in Firefox 3.6x versions.
