Linking a video to motion tracking

So I have hours and hours of lectures that I would like to get to this:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fHBn7KlhKE
Most of the time when the speaker is showing slides, I would like himr to be on one side with the slides next to him.
The issue is that my full shot camera is static and thus the speaker is moving in the frame.
This test video I did by keyframing by hand his movements.
It works, but is very tedious and not very precise.
Also I cannot get it to move only in horizontal position, even with using an alteration key like shift or command.
Thus the vertical position needs to be adjusted also which slows it down even more.
Im also trying to solve this with Motion doing analyze motion, but I have a issue with that:
- I get dropped frames because even the most static point, the microphone does not work as sometimes the speaker turns around, and I cant seem to make the track size big enough.
Help me community, you are my only hope =)

Having around 20 hours of material, I cant be doing that.
different, non-technical approach here:
Your example is - sorry to say that! - plain ugly:
speaking of pic-composition, not content!!
a red car is never ugly... ok, with a white roof?... perhaps..-.
The speaker is squished in some tiny small border, the picture in global has no structure (Rule Of Nine etc etc), no 'weight', no 'focus'.
And. a black dress in front of a black bg: the term 'Talking Head' very, very literal.
btw:What's that in front of him? A fruit basket of stones???
I would prefer the 'traditional' layout, like that:
here, the spaker has 'room to breath' (and walk, and gesture, and live).
or, consider vice-versa: full screen slide, tiny insert of stage-action
Plus:
Why should be the speaker be shown at all, when something else is the visual subject??
Instead of of tracking 20h (!!) of material in hope to get some result, I would use goo' ol' Cut-Aways

  • Help with linking a layer to motion tracked video

Not sure of the best way to describe this. I have a video with shadow in it which only moves slightly when camera pans a little.
Ive created a static image and removed the shadow in photoshop although could have probably done that using the clone stamp in AE.
However, the problem I have is that when the photoshop image is imported and I create the mask around the image where my shadow is on the video, the image is not tracked or linked to the video... How do I link it to the motion tracked video so that it moves with the video ?

    Hiya
Yeah one below.. What you will see is the photoshop file, then the null layer followed by the original footage. In effect I need the photoshop image to track the movement of the camera as when I currently play the video, when the camera moves it looks as though a chunk of grass (the mask) is moving different from the rest of the scene.

  • How to link two video stills clips tracks 1 and 2 ?

    Hi,
I have two matching stills, one is marked up with guidelines as to where I wish the pan window to go, this is on video track 2, on track 1 is the pure image less these guidance notes. I have turned off default scale to frame size and this imported montage 'still' is larger than my project size. I now hope to position the still with the guidance lines and area showing start of pan for frame 1 and have the underlying matching image on track1 take up the same position also.
I thus need to link both images so that moving the one moves the other. How do I do this ?
Currenly I can move the track2 image but track 1 image doesnt follow with it.
Once I have indicated using keyframes the path I want to follow, I shall turn off track 1 and have Premiere create a movie just with the good image showing.
How do I link the two image tracks together ?
I am otherwise following a tutorial at http://www.savevid.com/video/create-an-advanced-photo-montage-in-premiere-pro.html which does the montage pan though I have just one photo, on tracks 1 and 2.
    Envirographics.

    Hi,
I have followed this advice, the pan route is now perfect along with some tweaking of the bezier handles to make it go straight along the top from west to east..
However on the monitor it plays with comb like artefacts along edges , on the produced avi file from Export>Movie, one sees double, a balloon has two strings for example. Humans have a ghosted edge all around them. As the image stops moving at end of the pan I see the two ballon strings get closer and become one just as the pan ends. Its blurred, I also see tide marks in some places, back of a guys shirt, as if its in 256colour mode !Written using an authoring prog to dvd the TV playback is no better. Just nothing like the stills in the same  video from which a montage was made to use for this Ken Burns effect. Why is the pan a mess ? It was a bit jerky on the PC, I hoped TV viewing would see an improvement.
I have done a right-click on the image, Field Options and checked Flicker Removal as seen in a thread, made no difference.
I'd also Crop the vertical in PS to just what was needed for the Project's/Sequence's vertical Frame dimension.”…done that
Project is:- , custom size 1152 x 768 PAL square pixel into which I brought a montage 3754 x 1221 also square pixel. This yields crisp detail even when zoomed in on in photoshop. So why the jerky double image effect ?
I have read that Premiere is not as good as this as dedicated programs, another suggestion was do it in After Effects but I dont have that, and these other progs are $200 and I had expected more quality than this. Article at http://vimeo.com/3181326 didjnt get these problems.
What have I not done or overlooked ?

  • Possible to do the 3d motion tracking text in video with only adobe products?

I am very interested in doing some 3d text in some video with motion tracking, such as you see in the opening shots in the show Fringe.
You will have a scene of maybe a street in the city, the camera is looking forward and moving, you have 3d block text that seems to be just hovering there up off the ground but looks like a real physical 3d object in the shot as the camera moves around.
I have been looking up tutorials for this in After effects on youtube but they always use other non adobe products as well such as boujou or 3ds max,  I am wondering if it is possible to make the same shot with only adobe products. If so, what whould I use other than after effects.  And lastly, can anyone point me to a good free tutorial using only adobe programs if there is one out there?
I have seen one video of someone adding text to a moving video but it was flat or plastered onto a wall and not the nice block letters that look like a sculpture in the video.
    Thanks.

I am wondering if it is possible to make the same shot with only adobe products.
No, you can't and that settles all your other questions. For tutorials, refer to VideoCoPilot's matchmoving and set extension stuff, but even then you will need to at least use some comemrcial third-party plug-ins.

  • Motion tracking FIFA style

Hi all, I need some advice/help. I need to create a football highlight video using motion tracking. Idealy I would like to add a transparent oval shape around the feet of the player which will follow him as he runs. Something similar to the FIFA footy games. Is this possible in AE's. Regards

If you're new to AE, start here: Getting started with After Effects
As Mylenium says, it is vital to get a solid foundation in how to work with AE before you go gallivanting off into the world of motion tracking and rotoscoping.

  • Motion Tracking: How to link a object which is not the tracked one?

    Hello,
I have a video, its a landscape and the camera is moving from left to right. I want a flare appearing on the right side. There is one point which is always in the picture, I used this point to track the motion.
But the problem is, when I want to link optical flares with the tracking point, the flare is always ON the tracking point, but I want it a little bit more on the right side...
How is it possible to link a Object which is not exactly on the tracking point?

Usually you would apply the tracking info to a null and then use an expression to tie the position property of whatever you are trying to attach to the null with a simple expression. If you need update the position then you can either add value + to the front of the pickwhip generated expression or, and sometimes this is best, add a second null, parent null 2 to null 1 and then use the a layer space transformation expression on the position property of your effect. The expression looks like this:
    p = thisComp.layer("Null 2");
    p.toComp([0,0,0]);
If I did not if I did not accurately understand the problem then please post a screenshot of your project with all of the properties for the layers in question revealed.
Here's what a project would look like:

Are you within 30 days of purchase for the Premiere Elements 13? And, did you purchase as a download from Adobe? If so, you can
apply for a return/refund for 13. If you purchased elsewhere, then you would be governed by the return/refund policy of the seller.
Adobe no longer sells version 12, so you would have to find a vendor who still has it in stock and purchase it. There is no way to "downgrade"
    13 to 12.
What you may want to do is to download and install the Premiere Elements 12 tryout from the following web site to verify that 12 Motion
Tracking works for you; whereas 13 cannot with regard to use of video for the Motion Tracking source media.
Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 Direct Download Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 Direct Download Links, Premiere too | ProDesignTools
Apparently this web site does not sell the tryout. It just makes it available for use.
Before I posted my reply to you I looked at Motion Tracking with video source media on both Premiere Elements 12/12.1 and 13/13.1 on the same Windows 7 64 bit computer.
If any questions or need clarification, please do not hesitate to ask.
    Thank you.

  • How to track paint strokes to video in Motion 5?

    Hi All,
I have a video clip of me in front of the camera, drawing my name in the air with my finger. I would like to be able to make a paint stroke follow my finger and draw out my name. Because there is a lot of motion blur, I cannot motion-track my finger automatically. I just don't know how to paint the stroke in the exact place I need it. Can anyone help me to figure this out?
    Thanks,
    Adam

As far as I know, one has to manually keyframe the motion track...
Check the Motion 5 Manual page 1298...

  • Motion Tracking - Match Move, getting messy edges around superimposed video

    (Motion 3.0.2)
I'm using the "Match Motion" menu option under "Motion Tracking" - "Add Behavior" to superimpose a video over a flat screen in the shot. This is working great except for one issue. Around the edges of the super imposed video there is a flickering light that persists. NOTE: The flat screen does display a basic white graphic on it and initially it seemed as though this was leaking through. However, I'm not convinced this is the case as I've stretched the four corners well beyond the underlying white screen and the problem persists.
Pretty sure I went through the proper steps, i.e analyze etc. and the superimposed video does play fine, just the edges are not very clean.
    Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks, I did set the "Render" to "Best", hit Analyze again, saved the file, went back to my FCP project which contained the file/clip, had to render again.....but got the same results, might be a touch improved, can't really tell. Maybe I'll start over and just cover the entire flat screen tv w/ the video to ensure that none of the white image from the tv seeps around the edges??

  • How do I track motion on a video with inconsistent track points?

I have a video of a teacher in front of a chalk board. There is one camera motion when the teacher walks from one side of the chalk board to the other. I want to add graphics on the chalk board and make it look like they are pinned on the board. What's the most accurate way to track this motion for my graphics? I'm a real newb to motion tracking and actually haven't been successful at it so this one may take some extra explaining for me.
One think I tried was using the motion tracking behavior and I placed three track points at the bottom left, top left, and top right of the chalk board. I couldn't ad one on the top right because the teacher was in the way and at one point, the teacher walks in front of the bottom left motion track point, confusing it and loosing focus on what it's tracking. Am I making this harder than it has to be or can it be done accurately?
Here are a couple frames to show the (simple) panning from the right of the chalk board to the left. Other than this pan, the rest of the footage is still.

I don't do MAC's, but have you contacted their tech support?
I had this same problem on a PC notebook (TOSHIBA) which didn't have the TILDE key. One program I had needed the TILDE key for a major, often used function. The issue never got resolved.

  • Can I link and lock video and audio tracks - layers - as in Photoshop?

I'd like to link and lock entire clips of video and audio tracks, as I might in Photoshop, so that I can insert some material ahead of this group without having to move each separate tack in my timeline. I have a group of clips which works well together now, and it would be so nice to be able to link them, lock them together as on unit, and just insert the new material into the timeline ahead of this piece. Any ideas?

What version of Premiere Elements and on what computer operating system?
For now, a generalized Premiere Elements Windows answer.....
You would select all the clips (all at one time) that you want to move together, then Clip Menu/Group.
Or right click anywhere in the selection to bring up the pop up menu including the Group option.
Have you been there and done that yet?
Please supply more information so that we can fine tune the information that you seek.
    Thank you.

  • Motion track only part of a video

Is there a way to only motion track a small sequence of a video? I have a 5 minute video, and after a minute a house shows up along the road. And I want a text animation to track that house for the 6-7 seconds you can see it. But if I add a 3D camera tracker, it adds to the whole video, and that takes forever...

Duplicate the item. Trim it. Use the camera tracker on the trimmed duplicate.
This is rather basic, so I'm guessing that you'd benefit from going through the basic getting-started materials before going further:

  • Motion tracking and exporting layers with the background video

Is it possible to apply the motion tracking data to a new object in a new layer and then output, or export, that layer as an overlay plane (or perhaps in the alpha channel) so that the new object can be interactive (perhaps in a flash swf format)?
I would like to create an interactive layer of objects (created through motion tracking) above a background video layer.
Is After Effects the right tool for this job?

You are severely oversimplifying the matter. Interaction means establishing rules and this in turn requires programming. Ergo, you absolutely cannot avoid Flash and ActionScript. You can certainly do the tracking in AE and then use CS4's "Export to Flash" feature to get the raw setup into Flash, but the work doesn't stop there. For older versions of AE you will need alternate ways to import the tracking data, e.g. by ways of text files, but really, this is much more a Flash topic than one for the AE community, so better ask your questions there.

    Thanks for the reply.
I checked the link that I posted back in post 3 of your thread. It is working with at least Firefox and Chrome.
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE12: Motion Tracking/What To Use To Track Object?
    What browser are you using?
The blog post contains significant information related to Premiere Elements 12 Motion Tracking. But, if you cannot access it for some reason, then we will need to troubleshoot via communications in the thread.
SG has asked if you are able to create Motion Tracking effect using one of the graphics included with the program. We will watch for your response to him on that question. Please include in your message to him whether you can obtain your file to track the object using Organizer Tab or Project Assets routes as well as Graphics Tab.
The following is an excerpt from the blog post referenced....
    SOLUTION
Various tutorials and online comments have pointed to places other than Graphics Tab where objects can be selected and used to track the moving object in the video when the Motion Tracking workspace is opened in the Expert or Quick workspace.
Organizer Tab, Expert or Quick workspace to access Elements Organizer 12. Cascade Windows and drag a video or photo from Elements Organizer into the yellow track box of Motion Tracking workspace.
Project Assets, Expert workspace. Drag text, video, or photos from opened Project Assets into the yellow track box of Motion Tracking workspace.
Graphics Tab, Expert or Quick workspace. Create a png file (graphic) or prtl file (text) and place it in Clip Arts in the Program Files of the program to have a permanent resource. Then from Graphics Tab, drag the newly created graphic or text object into yellow track box of Motion Tracking workspace.
    Thanks.

  • 3D Motion Tracking Error/Crash in progress [Urgent Help Please!]

    Hey there!
I'm an video editor and I use 3D Motion Tracking a lot but recently every time I use it, it comes up with an error and says crash in progress,
It never used to do it and I can't seem to find any solutions to fix it.
    Computer Specs:
    Manufacturer: Toshiba
    Model: Notebook
Processor: AMD E1-2100 APU with Radeon(TM) HD Graphics 1.00 GHz
Installed Memory: 4.00 GB (3.45 GB Usable)
System type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor
So here's how I get to the problem. (I'll try provide as much detail as possible)
I import a mp4/avi file into After Effects,
    Create a new composition with:
    1280 x 720 (16:9)
    Frame Rate = 30
    Duration = 30 seconds
    Resolution = Third
    Advanced
    Renderer = Classic 3D
    (Boxes Underneath all unchecked)
    Options:
Shadow Map Resolution = Comp Size
    Motion Blur:
    Shutter Angle = 180 Degrees
    Shutter Phrase = -90 Degrees
    Samples Per Frame = 16
    Adaptive Sample Limit = 128
       3.  Drag the mp4/avi into the composition to use it. (1.21 Seconds Long)
       4.  Right click on it and go to Effect > Perspective > 3D Camera Tracker
       5.  The 3D Camera Tracker initializes with these settings:
Shot type = Fixed Angle of View
Show Track Points = 3D Solved
    Track Point Size = 100.0%
    Target Size = 100.0%
       6.   Loads Frames 0% > 100% then as soon as the orange line shows up with Solving camera it shows this,
and when I click okay it shows this,
       and then finally this,
and then it crashes. that's the same process every time and it still comes up with this.
       Help would be appreciated !
       Thank you !

Try rendering an image sequence from your original footage then load that into AE and Camera Track the image sequence. Use the AME to or AE to render a JPEG or PNG image sequence:
It's important to know that some footage cannot be Camera Tracked. In order for camera tracking to work there must be a significant amount of fixed geometry in the scene. For example, if you have a shot of open water like this it cannot be Camera Tracked:
This shot also cannot be camera tracked successfully because most of the frame is moving:
If transcoding or converting the shot to an image sequence does not fix the problem and you don't get a frame rate mis match warning then you could have possibly not given enough memory to other applications in you memory and multi processor settings. Keep memory allocation for other apps in even numbers and make sure that you have not starved the dynamic link server that does camera tracking. If you have the memory 4GB to other apps is absolutely the minimum. If you only have 4GB then give 2 to AE and 2 to other apps.
