My xbox keeps loosing its wireless signal when connected to a airport express. Any ideas what's causing this?

  • Time Capsule, Airport Express and Xbox Live

Recently I went out and bought a Time Capsule 1TB hoping to extend my wireless network. I knew that Apple products wouldn't usually help extend a DLINK network so it came as no surprise when I could not extend my DLINK network. My solution was to buy a new Airport Express, disable the wifi on the DLINK router and extend the Airport Expresses network via the Time Capsule.
The current situation is: DLINK <-> Ethernet <-> Airport Express Wireless Time Capsule <-> Ethernet <-> Xbox360
The issue is the Time Capsule as far as I can see. For apparently no reason it will change from a solid green status light to a flashing amber status light. Signing my Xbox into Xbox Live seems to be a trigger, but the Time Capsule goes amber even when the Xbox isnt on at all. When it does change to flashing amber I am no longer able to detect it within Airport Utility and as such am unable to diagnose the issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Here it works fine. I have a Time Capsule connected to my ADSL modem. I had to buy an all new Airport Express 802.11n, though, because my old AE could not extend my network.
On an all 802.11n setup you just check the "Allow this network to be extended" on the master (Time Capsule), and choose "Extend a wireless network" on the remotes.
The X-Box is connected with an Ethernet cable to the Airport Express, and connection to X-Box Live works fine.
    Good luck!

  • Using regular Airport in a similar manner of Airport Express for xbox live

This may seem like a weird question to ask, but I am trying to find a way around spending $100 on the Xbox360 wireless adapter.
To my understanding, if I were to buy an Airport Express (in addition to my Airport Extreme), I could plug it into the power outlet, then plug an ethernet cable from it into my xbox360. Since I have an Airport Extreme, I could send the signal to the Express and via ethernet cable, "wirelessly" connect my 360.
Now, I don't have an Express. I have my Extreme, and my old regular Airport. Is there any way to use my older airport to semi-wirelessly power my 360's internet? For example, plug it in right next to my 360 and use the ethernet out to go into the 360.
    sorry for the long question

Yes, this is correct. The AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) and the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) can be configured into a Wireless Distribution System (WDS) to provide wired access for the Xbox 360.
Now, I don't have an Express. I have my Extreme, and my old regular Airport. Is there any way to use my older airport to semi-wirelessly power my 360's internet? For example, plug it in right next to my 360 and use the ethernet out to go into the 360.
The older Dual-Ethernet (Snow) or Graphite base stations do not support WDS. If you have the Snow, you can connect it to your AEBS via Ethernet, and then, connect the Xbox 360 to its LAN port.

  • Airport Express and Xbox Live

I am thinking of purchasing either an Airport Express or Airport Extreme Base Station. I have an Xbox 360 with the USB wireless adapter. Can someone with experience tell me if the Xbox Wireless Adapter will work with either router? I have researched that it will only work if security is disabled. Has this been fixed? Please help.
I would also like to know. On the Express, would my Comcast modem have to remain plugged into the single ethernet port or not?
    Thanks...

In the past I had difficulties connecting xbox 360 to extreme N so my solution was to connect an express by ethernet to the extreme N and set the express to create its own wireless network. That worked fine. Security was set to WPA2.
A month ago since I updated the firmware on the extreme to 731 and airport utility to 531 I can connect xbox360 wireless to the extreme so I discarded the express.
get the extreme N its more flexible than the express. Comcast modem to wan of extreme and you still have three lan ports to connect other devices plus a usb port.

  • AirPort Express and Xbox 360

I am currently using my laptop to bridge my wireless to my xbox without buying the xbox wireless adapter. I want to get the AirPort Express to do this job rather than my computer doing it. I currently have the following setup. I have my cable modem from my isp which has ethernet running to my AirPort Extreme. The AirPort Extreme has one wired computer and one wireless which is my laptop. My xbox connects to the AirPort Extreme through my wireless Laptop

    Here's how to do it:
    _On the AirPort Extreme:_
Open AirPort Utility, click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab just below the row of icons
Wireless Mode should be "Create a wireless network" (It's probably already set this way)
Make sure there is a check mark next to "Allow this network to be extended"
    Update to save settings
    _On the AirPort Express:_
Open AirPort Utility, Click Manual Setup
    Click the Wireless tab
Wireless Mode should be set to "Extend a wireless network". If you don't see this choice, hold down the "option" key when you click on the selection box
When you select "Extend.." your wireless network created by the TC will appear as a choice to extend. Select it and enter the wireless password.
Make sure there is a check mark next to "Allow wireless clients"
    Update to save settings.
Whenever you plug the Express in, it will automatically "extend" the main wireless network from the Base Station. The ethernet port is "live" in this setup so you could connect an ethernet device if you wish.
But note...you cannot extend the "guest" network if you have a dual band AirPort Extreme. Only the "main" network can be extended. For more info, refer to the Designing AirPort Networks guide, pages 43-44.

  • Link Airport Express to an AirPort Time Capsule to use Airplay?

I am thinking about getting an 2GB AirPort Time Capsule. I use the Airplay feature on my Airport Express that is not part of the AirPort Time Capsule and that is the only reason I have not replaced the Airport Express with the Airport Time Capsule. Has anyone had any experience in setting up a these two units to do what they do together? Any potential problems linking these two units together?

If your intent is to use the new Time Capsule as your "main" Internet router, and then, use the Express for iTunes streaming this can be done without any real issues.
Please check out the following Apple Support article on how to configure an AirPort Express for iTunes.

  • Airport Express to Xbox 360

I'm currently on a military base and I connect to a wifi that requires you to log on using a browser. I want to connect my xbox to this wifi, but being I don't have a browser on it, I can't connect. If I purchase an airport express, could I connect it to the xbox? Also, do I have to connect the airport express directly to a router? Hopefully that isnt that case, because I have no access to the router. Would it be possible to bridge connections between my macbook pro and the airport express and use that to connect to my xbox?

    Hey Will,
I just got my wrt54g to work with my standard Xbox. Do a search on google for "Airport Express and Linksys WRT45G" - there are 2 or 3 really good articles with step by step instructions on how to do this. You usually have to load a 3rd party firmware onto the router which can be intimidating, but you need it to control the WDS settings. Once I had that all set up, I had to manually enter my IP/Gateway info to my xbox and I was good to go!
    Good luck.

  • AirPort extreme , PS3 Xbox live

Ive recently got a macbook and love the look of the airport extreme however I'm not really going to be using the wireless capability much. I want to use the wired ports. it has 3 ethernets out if i send 1 to PS3 1 to Xbox and the other to a switch for my macbook and pc , and maybe more products in the future will this set up be okay?
ive heard lots of problems with airport and xbox live / ps3 but these seem mainly due to the wireless components not if i used a wired connection.
if im not going to be using it for the wireless capabilities that much nor the usb HDD because i intend to use a Network storage device for faster speeds is it worth getting or should i stick with a cheaper router.
basically i like the look of the software config tool for it but wondered how easy it is to port forward etc for games consoles compared to other products.

It really wouldn't make much sense to get the AirPort, or any other wireless router, if you really don't intend to use this capability. I suggest a wired router, like the Linksys BEFSR81 for what you are looking for.

  • AirPort Express and xbox

    Hi all
I recently got an Airport Express for Christmas and want to connect it to both my home sterio and xbox. I have an existing wireless network at my home using a 3rd party wireless router.
I know that I can wirelessly send music to my home sterio (via the speaker jack), but I can't seem to get the xbox to discover the network (via the ethernet cable). Can I even do this?
    Please let me know, thanks.

i've tried both automatic, and i've tried manual setting by inputing the IP from both the airport information and the network settings, all with the same results. I know for a fact my internet provider doesn't use PPPoE so that's not the problem. Is there somewhere in the xbox360 settings where I can determine if it's set to DHCP?

  • Linking airport express with other airport express or belkin base

is it possible to link my airport express with another and thus have wireless coming from both?
if not, can it be done with anything other than an apple base, namely Belkin?
any help would be appreciated. thanks

You can link two Express units in a WDS network, by configuring one to extend the wireless network of the other.
Airport Express units can extend a Belkin wireless network if you are using a Belkin F5D7230-4 or F5D7231.

  • Airport Express slow xbox communication

Is there any reason why I would experience slow connection speed with my xbox to my Airport Express.
All Macs, iPhones & iPads at home work fine as ever.

First, wireless is always going to be slower than Ethernet due to loss in the conversion process to wireless. Usually this is around 15-20% or so.
The further away that you move from the wireless router, or if you have any obstructions like walls in the signal path, the more the bandwidth will drop away. No way to escape that.
-Could it be that I'm getting interference from both wireless networks active and broadcasting from only about 3 feet apart?
Very likely, in my experience...along with cordless phones, BlueTooth devices, etc.
-Are the claims of actual WiFi speeds of 802.11 N just B.S.?
In what regard? The speed on your "private" network will always be much higher than the speed of your Internet connection.
    Try this test:
Locate your MacBook relatively close to the AirPort Express
Hold down the option key while you click on the fan shaped AirPort icon at the top of the screen
    Look for the Transmit Rate
    What number do you see?

  • AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express, and Xbox 360

Perhaps someone's already posted a question about this, but I couldn't find a specific post that addressed my questions. I recently bought an Xbox for my stepson and hope to use an AirPort Express to connect it to my home network, which is built around an AirPort Extreme Base Station. Anyone out there done this? Can anyone share how they set theirs up?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi.
I set up the same configuration proposed by Henry.
My Airport Extreme is cabled to the Netgear ADSL Router. Airport Express is configured in WDS mode together with Airport Extreme and both are in bridge mode (DHCP disabled). Then, the Xbox 360 is connected with ethernet cable to the Airport Express. Finally, I set up the Airport express and extreme IP address as static. In this way, I have only one wireless network and the IP address is given by the Netgear Router for all hosts (Xbox 360 too), other than Airport base stations, which are always reachable with their static IP address.
I hope this description will be helpful.

  • XBOX 360 with Apple Airport Express/AIrport Extreme?

Well im about to buy an apple airport extreme wireless router for my house. The router is going to be located on the second floor with my cable modem. Planning to put my airport express in my room on the third floor.
So i am just wondering if you can directly plug in the xbox 360 ethernet cable to the airport express for xbox live.

...I will get a better connection using the Xbox wireless adapter and my Airport Extreme Base Station, than I do by connecting the Xbox via Ethernet to an Airport Express that is wirelessly connected to my AEBS?
    Yes
If I get the xbox wireless adapter, do I still need to configure my AEBS as WDS...
    No
...and could I get my old network communication speed back?
    Yes

  • I have the airport express,,, but

I'm using airport express as join a wireless network.
I beleive the firmware is the lastest version.
Well, I connect the LAN calbe from airport express to XBOX 360.
Usually it works well, but it keep drops internet connection wih flashing yellow light.
I tried several things that google provided various ways to solve it, but it still happens.
What a annoying thing is it always drops connection when I am playing FIFA with other players.
Is there anybody who had same issue??
    I am really exhausted.

  • Simultaneous Playback to Computer and Airport Express

As others have posted it appears possible with iTunes 6.0.2 to play to both a Computer and an Airport Express.
I have an Airport Express in my Kitchen, which has been updated with the Airport Setup Assistance.
If I shift-click on the speakers drop-down in iTunes to pick "Kitchen", I get the following:
"The current remote speaker "Kitchen" does not support playback as part of a group. Do you want to switch playback to the computer?"
Any thoughts and ideas are welcome. I've tested this on a Mac mini and a dual G4, both running 10.4.4 and iTunes 6.0.2. The Mac mini has an Airport Extreme card.

My original problem has been resolved. I ended up doing a hard reset of my Airport Express, then running the AirPort Express Firmware Updater. After re-establishing connection to my wireless network, I now get the Multiple Speakers option. Some links:
